It’s all fun and games…until you stake your sister’s fiancé.
Okay, fine! I’m not really going to stake Colin or his brother, the insufferable, bossy-fanged Darcy Blackmore. At least not as long as I can find another way to stop our siblings from getting hitched.
My sister, Lizzy, won’t admit it, but she doesn’t love Colin. She’s sacrificing herself so we can stay in Nightfall, New Hampshire, and renew the magical shield keeping the paranormal creatures here, including witches like us, safe from human discovery.
I have ten days to find another way—aside from a bloodsucker wedding—to secure our legacy and not a lead in sight. So, imagine my surprise when the wretched, though admittedly smoking hot, Darcy comes to the rescue.
His scheme? We pretend to be hot for each other, trick Lizzy and Colin into confessing they don’t really want to tie the knot, and sort out how to save the town once the wedding bells are silenced—permanently.
It’s not a bad plan. In theory. If only Darcy wasn’t every bit as delicious as he is obnoxious. If only he’d kept his secret sweet side under wraps and kissing him wasn’t the most amazing thing to happen to my lips in my entire life. If only this fake love had stayed fake, instead of creeping into my heart on stealthy little vampire feet.
Now I have a decision to make—keep faking it with the world’s sexiest vampire until I lose big at love, yet again, or leave my new hometown and all the people I’m coming to love behind. Forever.
Surprisingly enjoyable romantic romp involving all sorts of magical creatures, from werewolves to vampires and house kraken all living in a magically shielded town. It's this magic shield that brings Blair into the story as her sister Annie is being forced into a loveless marriage to renew the magical energy needed to keep the shield going. Rather than let this happen, Blair enters into a fake dating romance with broody vampire Darcy to convince her sister shell be the one to do the renewing.
This is very much a paranormal light romance with a couple of spicy scenes thrown in. Blair and Darcy have a good amount of chemistry, with a believable romance that stands up to all the ridiculousness going on around them. I really liked all the extra little magical creatures that kept popping up, such as the monster spiders, as they added to the atmosphere of this isolated magical town that's so completely outside the realms of normal while also just happening to have a nail salon. Run by a Wyvern. Think Charmed but in small town America.
I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series as its all about Blair's sister Annie coparenting with an angsty vampire. Fun times.
📖 Please make this stop. I don’t want to fall in love right now, especially with a man who has no interest in loving me back. _ You deserve a warm, wonderful man who only has a short time to love you and is determined to make the most of his one, precious life. A man who can take you on picnics in the sunshine and grow old with you. I was a man like that once, but I haven’t been for so long. _ “I might not be perfect, Darcy, but I’m pretty great. And I love you. And that makes you one damned lucky man. When you get that, come see me. Maybe I’ll still be single.”
Holy Misogyny Bat-man. He literally calls her "Goblin" at first, likely because she actually works and doens't have the money for primping. SHE has t change everything about her to pretend they're falling for each other, while he does nothing. Cue scrubs, wax, plucking, hair cut and colour, new outfits she can't afford. suddenly he's all "oh why wasn't I attracted to her before???" so he's only attracted to her after she transforms to his preferred look. When he sees her sister in her sleepwear he literally states he'll tell his brother what she looks like when she's not makinig an effort (aka oversized shirt and shorts, glasses) because it will slow his rush to marry her....WTF? yet we're meant to think all this is super hot and sexy... so gross.
I love when characters immediately feel like friends. When they endear themselves to you by the way they think, they act. And the way they love. Blair and Darcy were those people…
Both looking out for their families, they were frenemies with a common goal. And willing to forgo their feud and make nice if it got them both what they wanted. That didn’t mean they didn’t argue. Oh man, they argued. And made up. And argued. Fake? Maybe at first. Snarky and sweet, the chemistry was beakers full even as they both fought any attraction they had for the other. Attraction? Such a mild word for the fireworks that followed…
Fun and romantic, this paranormal romance will put anyone in a light-hearted, good mood... ~Diane, *5 vampy, witchy stars*
I was in need of a light, funny story and this book did more than that. Witches, vampires, krakens, shape shifters, and demons in a funny, exciting, romantic, spicy story. Can't wait to read the next book!
Blaire and Annie are two sisters that recently discovered that their mother is a witch, so therefore they're also witches. They move into their mother's house in a secret supernatural town called Nightfall to cope with their money struggles, when they meet Colin and Darcy, two vampire brothers. To maintain the protective shield of Nightfall Annie has to marry Colin, but Blaire and Darcy will do everything to avoid this marriage from happening to ensure the siblings happiness, so they pretend that they are in love so the elders think that they could take the place of Annie and Colin. What they didn't predict is that they would in fact fall in love with each other, a feeling so strong that they wouldn't be able to fight it.
So this was just okay. I wasn't really sure that I could get behind this romance from the beginning because Darcy calls Blaire some pretty harsh and mean things for a good long while. Also not really a turn-on to be nicknamed "Goblin" first as an insult and then as a pet name. I also didn't love that she had to change prettying much everything about herself so that he could pretend they were dating. And of course he's suddenly like she's beautiful... It turned me off a bit, this stereotype that women are only attractive if they're made up to the 9's with fresh hair cut, color, manicure and designer clothes. It's sexist. Also as a sidebar, when he sees her sister in loungewear he literally says he'll tell his brother what she looks like because it will slow his rush to marry her. What the actual hell... She's just wearing glasses with no makeup and in loungewear in the comfort of her own home in the middle of the night. No one is put together 24/7.
So the romance... I'm not a fan of enemies to lovers so that didn't help. But even once they start to like each other, it's all about the sex and their physical chemistry. There is very little about the emotional side of things, just that they're very suddenly in love and are fated mates which came out of no where. It was hard to buy into their relationship
The world building could also use some work. We're only given sprinkles of information here and there and nothing is ever really elaborated upon. We still have very little information at the end of the book and I get that there is a sequel, but I wanted more.
Overall, this romance ended up feeling more like lust than love and it wasn't for me. I don't think I'll be continuing on in the series.
The story was enjoyable and definitely an easy read. However, the nickname ‘Goblin’ was a very weird choice, and the storyline left a few loose ends. That said, it wasn’t as bad as I expected, was still funny and entertaining.
“This witch…does things to me. Bad things. I can’t stand this woman, which makes the urge to lick her every time her mouth-watering scent hits my nose even more irritating.” 🪄 Review: My Big Fat Bloodsucker Wedding by Bella Jacobs. 🧛 I’ve read many books from Lili, but it’s my first one of her pen name Bella Jacobs. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I totally loved. It has been some time since I last read a paranormal story, and it was totally worthy. Full of heat, laugh and schemes, the witch Blaire and the vampire Darcy totally won me over quite fast.
There were few things that they agree on, but their siblings (Annie and Colin) wedding was one of them. Legend says that the older Wonderfully witch has to marry a Blackmore vampire so they can protect the town and fulfill the prophecy. They are frenemies with benefits, but a little of mixed feelings they tried to fake date so their siblings don’t marry and be unhappy.
Little did they know that they are not the only ones playing a game. I’m obsessed with Blaire and Darcy growing friendship and banter. It was kind of unique and I loved when he called her his goblin and tried to protect her, and how she challenged him in every turn. She was a strong girl, who knew her worth.
There is suspense, small dramas, romance and sizzling chemistry and interactions. I wish there was more steamy scenes, but everything else compensate my wish! Let’s not talk about the secrets being revealed. Whaaat??? Gah, I can’t wait to read the rest of this series!
3.5 ⭐️ but I rounded up because I had a really fun time listening! 5 ⭐️ audio narration by Shane East and Lili Valente!
This was like a supernatural Stars Hollow and I loved it! Super cute (and spicy, don’t let the cartoon cover fool you) fake dating, paranormal romance between a Vampire and a Witch determined to stop their siblings from going through with a miserable marriage to save the town!
Very fun world-building. A house kraken named Kitty that bakes cakes and a spider guardian that protects the house! How cute.
I do wish the random plot in the end was either more fleshed out or less info dumpy, hence the 3.5 stars. I had to rewind a couple of times to understand what was going on because I was a little confused and it came out of left field.
Book two is a secret baby and we know that’s my jam!
Do yourself a favor and dive into this book! I came across it by chance and the blurb hooked me! I Consumed this book in one sitting it was adorable! Blair is freaking hilarious! I instantly loved her! She’s a nut! Chaos is her middle name and there’s always a shiit show! Darcy is delicious and moody! Their constant banter is Everything! It was hate at first sight! They don’t agree on anything other than stopping this wedding! I loved the little town this book is set in and the history of the supernatural that live in it. It’s so interesting and the author gives you just the right amount of detail that you can picture it all without drowning in filler paragraphs full of details. It was a short well written book with all the goods! The storyline is engaging, the characters are wonderful, it’s thrilling and hilarious with lots of slow burn sexual tension leading to the Big Bang! I’m so excited for the other books in this series!
I love it when an introduction to a new-to-me author clicks with me, and that was exactly what Bella Jacobs's My Big, Fat Bloodsucker Wedding did. I enjoyed Blaire and Darcy's story immensely! They had this awesome type of chemistry between them, and all that banter was so darn entertaining. The fake relationship trope isn't a go-to for me, but Jacobs splendidly brought creativity and originality into this series starter, and I'd have to be cold-hearted to not have fallen for My Big, Fat Bloodsucker Wedding. 4.5 stars!
This was fun! Blaire was such a funny character, Darcy too, even if I wanted to smack him a few times! But a really good read, I'm excited and curious about what comes next with the rest of the sisters, especially the ones that haven't been found yet, as well as their mother (of course), I'm very curious about her!
Certainly an enjoyable read. I liked the magical world we were thrust into, I only wish it had been developed a tad more. I also really liked the dynamic between our main couple. I must admit, it did get slightly confusing and frustrating near the end but it is what it is.
I honestly don’t know what was worse that he called her goblin during intimate moments or that they were intimate as bats. Besides that the story was random as hell. 2 stars for the cat and the spider woman.
I absolutely fell in love with Blaire and cranky Darcy. These two were hilarious and hot at the same time. It cracked me up how each thought they knew what was best for Annie and Colin. Constantly scheming to figure out how they will get them to split up. Oh, how wrong they were. I loved their journey from mutual dislike to everything in between and more. It cracked me up how vehemently they deny being interested but to themselves they can’t stop thinking about each other. Hell, I had to get my fan out to cool myself down on more than one occasion because Darcy and Blaire were ON FIRE! Blaire and Darcy, as well as the other crazy characters like nutball Janet and the weird kraken in the pipes, will keep you on your toes with everything that happens. I was guessing until the end. And I want more of the people in this crazy supernatural town! I could not put this book down. Bella Jacobs wrote a freaking fantastic story! It’s that combination of good storytelling and stellar narrator performances that bring it all home. So many great lines in this book expertly delivered by Lili Valente and Shane East. These characters were tailor made for these two narrators. They know just how to bring the right amount of spice and humor into the performances.
What a great little supernatural town this author has created. I am intrigued and invested already. Absolutely loved Darcy and Blair and their story. So many awesome characters. Can't wait for more of this series!!
My Big, Fat Bloodsucker Wedding by Bella Jacobs was such a fun, paranormal romcom. It is unique to find a paranormal romance on the lighter, humorous side and I want more of it! Blaire and her sister Annie have just received their witch powers and are new to the mystical town of Nightfall, New Hampshire. Darcy is an old broody vampire but from the moment he meets Blaire the sparks were flying between them! At first they cannot stand each other but as they work together to free their siblings from being forced into marrying the other the stronger the pull to one another and when they give in they were FIRE together! I couldn’t get enough of their banter and verbal sparring. Shane East and Lili Valente narrate this audiobook. What a pairing! Shane does a moody, broody British vampire to perfection. Lili’s voice pulls you into this fictional world and she delivered on the humor and heat of her character flawlessly. Overall, this was such a delightful story. It is magic, mystery, and a blood sucking good time! I cannot wait for more to come.
**Audiobook Review**My Big, Fat Bloodsucker Wedding by Bella Jacobs was a fun, mystical, paranormal romance with just the right amount of humor and spice! This was my first paranormal romance from Bella, and it most certainly won't be my last. I enjoyed my trip to Nightfall, New Hampshire, and just adored everything about Blair and Darcy's fated love story.
Lili Valente and Shane East narrate this audiobook, and are fabulous bringing Blair and Darcy to life. Blair is a witch, and is just beginning to explore her powers, who also is super supportive of her sisters. Lili portrays Blair's fierce, loyal, and loving personality perfectly proving just how far Blair will go to fight for the one she loves. Darcy is an old hunky vampire, who claims he can't love again. Shane is spot on showcasing Darcy's broody, stubborn, and alluring persona. Talk about dirty Shane vampire talk! Yes please!
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and audio. If you love a paranormal romance with a hot, dead vampire, a sassy witch on a mission, crazy possessive exes, crashing a wedding, loyal devoted family members, hot bloodsucking steamy times, and an HEA that will last a lifetime, then you will love Blair and Darcy's story! I'm looking forward to more from Bella Jacobs!
I must admit that I didn’t really even have high expectations going into what I assumed would be a fun little urban fantasy rom-com reading moment.
Alas, here we are, unimpressed.
To start with, I had issues with the world building. Or what I prefer to call *all that messy business.* It was shoddy, like an unfinished house in the wilderness - and while it may provide temporary shelter, you can’t really build anything solid without either patching up what’s currently there or starting over from scratch.
Then there was the characterization, which did the job it showed up to do, and that’s it. No overtime hours being worked over here, so don’t expect to dig deep into feelings or motivations or anything really because only shallow graves lie here.
I truly did not enjoy the random info tidbit drops that fell out of the sky like a bird turd does when you least expect it.
And I also hated the plot. Just despised it. Because it was not great. There were plot points that occurred and then were promptly abandoned to never see the light of day again. The main plot itself didn’t seem to have any sort of substance. I couldn’t bring myself to care about any of it.
If it weren’t as short and fast-paced as it was - and let’s be frank, it was only short and fast because that’s how it seemed to be constructed, shortly and quickly - I would’ve definitely abandoned it.
Instead, I get the privilege of awarding it two measly stars and then promptly forgetting all about it.
3.75⭐️ audiobook review. This was entertaining enough. Urban PNR. The MMC was Ok. He wasn’t my favorite male lead. But, I liked the FMC she was wasn’t your basic chick and hell she was 34!!! WHAT? She couldn’t be on her parents insurance plan anymore, no way? 🤣 Bonus points for that. I like the idea of the story. The mystery of the missing Mother has me intrigued. The overall fake dating trope and the love story totally predictable. But the other plot lines have me wondering and is what has me going back to the next book. Besides the fact I already purchased it in the audible sale. Another common trope PRN is the “ super naturals living out in the open-ish” and this series has an interesting twist. I like how the family of the witches are involved in keeping this town of supernaturals safe with the barrier spell. The history behind it. Which I think we will learn more about as the series progresses. I hope so anyway. It’s one of the plots that has me coming back for more. Also, I want a house Kraken! Super scary if you aren’t aware of them. But, totally handy if you know what to do with one. 😉 Shane East is normally a great narrator. But he just made the FMC sound whiny & breathy during his narration of her. When she wasn’t that type of character at all. Kinda drove me nuts. CJ Bloom did a great job.
“The man really knows what to do with this tongue.”
Do you want a light spooky rom com? Unbeknownst to them, Darcy’s brother is fake engaged to Blaire’s sister. They both try to talk their siblings out of the marriage. Apparently someone from Darcy’s family has to marry and consummate their relationship with someone from Blaire’s family. Both are stubborn. Both are hilarious. Both are great together!
Also, I am going to need Colin and Annie’s story in audio now!
❤️🎧📖❤️ Book: My Big Fat Bloodsucker Wedding Couple: Darcy and Blaire Author: Bella Jacobs (aka the talented Lili Valente) Narrated by: Lili Valente and Shane East Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 Kindle Unlimited: ❌ Audio Whispersync: ❌
🗣 Narration 🗣: These two were magical together!
📚 Tropes 📚: E2L, fantasy, magic, rom com, light OW drama, h is tomboy (despite the cover), fated mates, leaving you for your own good in 3rd act breakup
Reading the blurb you might think you’ve read tropes similar to this where a fake romance turns into the real thing, but when you throw in Bella Jacob’s writing style and the paranormal aspect I guarantee you this will be the first book of its kind! I can’t remember a time I laughed so hard while enjoying a paranormal romance. I think my favorite part is the house kraken, Kitty. If you are in the mood for something a little bit more lighthearted with a paranormal twist and a sexy vampire romance then this book will definitely hit the spot.
