Review for the complete series

Miyako is writing her master thesis on Princess Ritsuko - a Japanese girl who married into the Estorian royal family. As it happens, Ritsuko's grandson Prince Wilfred has come to Japan to study abroad. Miyako has her mind set on getting an interview with him to complete her thesis, but Prince Will shows her a different face than the one he wears in public.

In a broad sense, this is your typical royalty falls in love with commoner story, including the fact that Miyako is one of the very few characters who isn't interested in Will being a prince - well, beyond that fact that she wants information of him. The main aspect that's probably different from most of its kind is the fact that Will is said to be a bit of a pervert. To be honest, beyond the fact that he likes large breasts - which is also what made him notice Miyako initially - I wouldn't say there's anything perverted about him. It does make for a more comedic start to this series, though.

Private Prince became much stronger with the later volumes. While the first volumes were more on the comedy side of things and thus quite fun, I struggled to connect to the characters. Miyako is obsessed with her thesis and pretty dense about a lot of other things - Will was definitely the more interesting of the two. Once both had gotten over their pride and admitted their feelings for each other, the plot became more serious and I appreciated how the characters handled all the obstacles thrown in their way.

Rather than being all lovey-dovey, both had their share of doubts and had to give some serious thought in regards to their future. Miyako wanted to continue her studies and felt like this was not possible if she were to remain in a relationship with Will, and of course, he had a lot of things to consider given his title and all. I felt like their relationship developed well and all their worries and solutions were both mature and realistically done. I also started to appreciate Miyako's character a lot more once she wasn't in such denial about her feelings. While I still prefer Will as a character, she did show a lot of backbone in regards to her studies and research.

Private Prince also has a great supporting cast. Miyako's friend Chiri is easily at the top of my list, she makes such a great and supportive friend, has a fleshed-out personality and is an actual functioning part of the plot. For better or for worse, I also liked how Miyako's mother was written. She is far from a pleasant person but she does also show that she loves her daughter and she added some more depth to Miyako's side of the story.

Originally, I only read Private Prince because I enjoyed other of Enjouji's works. It is still not my favourite of hers, but it's a fun story, especially if you enjoy romances with royalty and don't mind Will's quirks about large breasts which seems to be a running joke throughout the series.

Pěkná a roztomilá kresba. Musím kresbu opravdu vynachválit, protože byla opravdu úžasná, jelikož i u sourozenců, kteří normálně vypadají velmi podobně, byly detaily obličejů tak dobře nakresleny, že od sebe byli odlišní a přesto si zachovali podobnost. Vím, že to nedává smysl. :D Líp to vysvětlit nedokážu.
Vážně by mě zajímalo, co bylo s tou celou královskou rodinou. Každý člen byl zvláštní a úplně v jiném směru. To mi ale zas tak nevadilo, protože to bylo poměrně vtipné.
Princ Will a miss Melouny tvořili hrozně roztomiloučký pár. I když se mi nelíbilo, jakým způsobem dostal Will poprvé Miyako do postele. Za to jsem na něj byla opravdu naštvaná a Miyako jsem litovala.
Obálky vypadají pěkně, akorát by na nich nemuselo být tolik světlých prvků, které pak splývají s pozadím, kde se nachází nadpis.

Okay. I really can't stop myself from looking for summary of this. :) coz' I really liked it. How pathetic anyway. Let me share what I got from the Internet so far. :)

“Private Prince” is about the fairy-tale romance between Miyako Sakuragawa and Prince Wilfred Enrique Ritsuka Estol of Estolia**. Miyako, 22, is gathering materials for her thesis about Princess Ritsuko, a Japanese royal who wed into the royal family of Estolia, when fate intervened: Wil, 20, Ritsuko’s great grandson, comes to Japan and attends the same university as Miyako’s–Eito University.

Meeting the Prince is a must for Miyako. She needs him for her thesis. With the help of Chiriko Iizuka***, Miyako gets her chance: she gets a pass to the welcome party for Wil at the state guesthouse and wears a “slinky” evening gown to catch Wil’s attention. However, Miyako did not know that the Prince has a secret fetish only known to members of the royal family and his butler Robert Maximilian Campbell: huge boobs. While she succeeds in getting Wil’s attention, basically due to her F-cup breasts that Wil calls “melons”, her life becomes hell after that first encounter. Apart from Wil always acting like a perv toward her, he also interferes with Miyako’s personal life. He constantly follows her around the campus, which puts Miyako in a bad light among other girls in school. He also visits her at work and even at home, which attracts more ill feelings toward Miyako. However, not all is bad luck with the Prince around. He helped Miyako get back home while continuing her studies^, and saved her from being used again by Tsuzuki, Miyako’s first love.

By summer break, Miyako and Wil’s relationship has become comfortable. But after the two make an appearance at the opening of the famous Winslet Group’s new hotel in Los Angeles, California, Christopher Roland Wellswill, Wil’s cousin, comes to Japan to snatch Miyako away. He sees Wil as his rival in everything, and uses Miyako for his wicked plans. While he seems to have succeeded at first, Chris ends up in failure. His fiancée, Lola Hayward, arrives in Japan and prevents him from bedding Miyako against her will, and Wil arrives just in time to take Miyako home. The incident made the two realize their affections for each other. They soon confess to each other and become a couple.

Things, however, are not always happy and gay for the lovers. On New Year’s Day, Wil and Miyako have to control their sexual urges as Wil runs out of the royal family’s specially-made condoms. On Valentine’s Day, Miyako gets kidnapped by two unidentified men while on vacation in Grindelwald, Switzerland. The kidnappers mistook Miyako for the Prince. On top of that, the two have to escape Miyako’s mom’s schemes of pulling them apart. Miyako also has to win the trust of Wil’s brother, Crown-Prince Alfred, during her stay at the royal palace.

Getting past their previous predicaments, Miyako and Wil face another issue at hand: time. In Côte d’Azur, France, the two’s plan of vacation gets interrupted by Wil’s sister, Princess Cecilia. Princess Cecilia asks Wil to model for her new men’s wear brand. Although Wil did not want to, he gives in to his sister’s request for Miyako’s sake^^, leaving him and Miyako no time to be together. The same happens after the two get back to Japan and Miyako takes leave from home. She signs up for three part-time jobs to pay for her expenses, and becomes busy in writing her thesis. In the midst of it all, however, Wil finds the time to accomplish his plan: he proposes to Miyako. However, the two get separated before Miyako can give him an answer. Worse, the media were able to photograph the incident, and it became a public frenzy. This prompted Robert to prevent the two from seeing each other for a while until the hype goes down. However, the two’s love for each other cannot be prevented. Wil finds a way to escape Robert’s watch during the opening of the first store of Princess Cecilia’s brand in Aoyama and reunites with Miyako.

While the hype of the Prince having a lover is not yet over, Wil decides to return to Estolia and inform his parents of his and Miyako’s engagement. Before he leaves, however, he presents to Miyako her engagement ring: a D-color Estolian diamond with flawless clarity that was cut by Wil’s family’s royal jeweler. The ring also bears the royal crest on its base. The two plan on announcing the engagement upon Wil’s return from Estolia, but Wil had to cut the wait short to protect Miyako from further harassment from the press and the public, even if it ruins his image before them^^^. This, however, does not end Wil and Miyako’s problems. While Miyako is busy preparing her thesis for the next academic meeting, Wil is having problems regarding their engagement. His parents would not approve of their marriage as he was second in line for the throne†. Thus, he cannot leave Estolia yet and be with Miyako. What’s worse, news broke in Japan that Wil already has a fiancée in Estolia in the person of Maria Hearst, “heiress to a very old line of Estolian counts”, news that creates a riff between Miyako and Wil. Wil, however, is determined to marry Miyako. He comes back to Japan and explains everything to her. He tells her he is ready to quit royalty and be with her in Japan. This, however, does not come to that as Wil’s father finally approves of their marriage, albeit under pressure. The news allowed them to push through with the formal announcement of their engagement, and their wedding in Estolia.

Miyako gets pregnant by the story’s end.

**TRIGGER WARNING**

This book deals way TOO LIGHTLY about rape, assault and consent. It's a f*cking joke. It ruins the whole story for me.

The main character gets assaulted twice, and 'forgives' because 'they didn't really mean it'. At one point, one could even say the only sexual experiences she has are because she was 'forced' too. The author plays this off as an 'uncontrolable' desire because her 'weak female body can't help it'.

What. the. heck. It's such a shame because the story line was sweet, light and fun! But this makes me really sour. I'll read the next book to give it a chance...

Surprise, surprise, the prince's cousin is just as hot, rapey, and exploitative as the prince is (probably a smidge more so). Really, this volume is more of the first, complete another round of sex with questionable consent, another rape attempt (thankfully interrupted), and our heroine doing almost whatever men say if it will help her with her thesis. No real character improvement yet. I'm still holding out hope.

Review (for the whole manga):
Didn't really enjoy this manga series. Too cliche, perhaps. Just liked the art. As usual for this mangaka, there are some explicit scenes (nudity / 18sx) in this series as well.

It's still only ok, but not as bad as the first one. Though I am glad that Will and Miyako are both better to each other.

Series Review: This manga is a very cute and funny series that makes a quick and light read. The plot is not very original and often cliche but entertaining none the less. The characters are likable and often humorous. I recommend this manga for older readers as it has mature moments and those looking for a light read.
