What more can I say? The best thing ever! I love that the Masa-Tacchan-Miku trio is happening! They are so chaotic when they're together! And Tora is so freaking adorable. I just love everything about it! I wish this series will never end gah! I don't think I will be able to let Tacchan and his squad go!

Another fantastic volume. Wasn't as big a fan of the extras this time around; wish there had been more main chapters.

I think I need to take a break with this series because I’m starting to get bored of the repetitive jokes.

First half is great fun, so many cute moments with the husband and wife here, and then the second half is a spin off of the magical girl series from inside the universe of the way of the househusband and I was NOT amused by this...A waste.

The part that was about Tatsu and co was awesome as always. But I didn’t really care for the Policure extra… not my type of reading at all….

You’ll never believe it, but this volume is all stories where Tatsu says things that sound super incriminating that turn out to be completely innocuous and focused on household stuff.

Yeah, okay, formula thy name is Way of the Househusband, but it’s still one that I haven’t completely grown tired of, even if this volume is really getting a little threadbare with things left open to make fun of.

Still, it’s not a total waste of time. The mangaka is using Tatsu’s wife, Miku, a lot more and they have a fairly charming dynamic provided it isn’t movie night at their place (although their suggestions wind up having nothing on those of their guest).

The first story is probably the most fun, as a crepe truck faces off against a donut truck with a family connection and by the time Tatsu finishes with them, well, they don’t make death scenes like that any more (the blasé reactions of the customers wrap this one up perfectly).

I wouldn’t say there are any duds, exactly, although some come across better than others. The snowfall one is a great example of using your supporting cast to good effect, and the hamster incident is almost a classic (there’s a dream sequence in that one that’s pretty wild).

Honestly, the bonus features are probably the most enjoyable part. The zombie attack one is basically able to lean hard on some of the oldest jokes in series, but the shift in reality freshens them up a great deal.

Then we get a full story featuring the cop-based PreCure rip-off PoliCure. I’m not going to speak to its strengths as a send-up of that specific franchise, but I will say that it gets much better as it goes along and has at least one moment that skewers a very particular magical girl trope to ribbons, which I really loved.

Despite my rating, I had a good time with this and I think this series still has places to go, it just doesn’t always work any more. And, considering how hard I laughed at the last volume, there’s nothing anywhere near as classic in this one.

3.5 stars - maybe? Based on the bonus content at least, but the regular stuff is the same old same. It’s not bad, but I suspect we’re definitely beyond the consistent best moments for the series at this stage. Which is more an observation than a complaint, I swear.

Me encanta esta serie. Sigue manteniendo el nivel después de tantos tomos.

Mis favoritos de este número han sido el desafío de donuts, la noche de pelis, la sauna y el del restaurante chino, aunque los extras no se quedan atrás.

Some reviews on here are saying that the gag is getting played out. Honestly, I like these volumes less when they're not as heavy and direct on the gag. Give me more close up introductory shots of housewives, give me more Tatsu talking about grocery sales like they're life or death. I love that. It makes me laugh. I doubt I'll tire of it.

I didn’t laugh at all while reading this volume, which is abnormal for me with this series. Also, the last quarter of the manga was some silly policure spin-off that I did not find entertaining. This volume was a big miss for me. Hopefully, the next one will be funnier.

I loved the chapters with the new pet hamster; whom Tatsu talks to as if it were his child and the new cop in his neighborhood. This silly series continues to be fun!

3 1/2 stars rounded up

Summary:

Once upon a time, a man named Tatsu was a fierce member of the Yakuza. He was known as the Immortal Dragon and infamous for everything he did – and survived. But that was years ago. Now he's a househusband and quite dedicated to the job.

Enter the househusband! He walked away from a life of danger and violence. Now, he fights a new type of battle against dust and messes. All while mastering the art of cooking and shopping.

Review:

It's time for more Yakuza, ahem, I mean househusband antics! I really adore The Way of the Househusband, and thus, I was looking forward to the next volume. I know I'm reaching the end of my binge, but I'm trying to make the best of it.

As usual, The Way of the Househusband Vol. 8 is split into various adventures. That said, this volume did feel different in that there's a distinct separation between the first and second half of it all.

The first half follows our beloved Tatsu and crew. The second half? Well...it follows the Policure (magical girl) characters and adventures. While I don't mind hearing Miku talk about them, I don't think I needed to see so much of them. I would have preferred more Gin adventures, frankly.

Highlights:
Ex-Yakuza turned Househusband
Comical
Slice-of-life
Adorable Cat side stories

Very funny. Drawings are amazing. Main characters are two young men and their wives/girlfriends and various brief incidents such as looking for someone to adopt their pet hamster (too cute drawing of the hamster wearing a tiny police hat and chasing a criminal), golf lesson, or hunting for bamboo shoots to satisfy the wishes of their yakuza boss.
The yakuza remain in the background as a threat if they don't conform to expectations, but seem to have little to do with daily life which seems actually "wholesome". The contrast is what brings out the humor. The two men have heavy tattoos on their upper body, symbolic of yakuza. However they're not violent or involved in crime. This is the first one I've read and will be reading more on the Libby app. English version.

I haven’t been impressed by this series for the most part. A big part of that comes from most chapters feeling like the bonus manga you’d find in the back of most books. The artwork is great, but the same joke has been beat to death by now. The plot doesn’t really go anywhere, and there’s very little character development, aside from new characters with similar hobbies appearing every few volumes. In most cases, the actual bonus manga has been better than the chapters in several volumes as there’s a bit more variety. This volume has about fifty pages of bonus material, so it ends up being probably the most solid one yet. I’m still on board.

2.5 ⭐ Most of this did not feel purposeful, or as funny as the past volumes. There were some funny bits but it really did not seem to add all that much to the series. And then the last piece that was just page after page of the Policure show was absolutely useless and made the whole thing feel like the author just threw it all together to meet a deadline and didn't take time to do anything better.

Another great edition in the series. Golfing chapter gets my vote here. The househusband watches his wife’s favorite show towards the end; I quickly paged through that episode. Art continues to impress.

I didn’t like this as much as the others 😭 not sure if it I’m just over the concept or if it actually wasn’t as good 🤷‍♀️
