I used to deliver pizza. I was pretty good at it, too. I mean, it's not that hard, but if I'm not going to brag, who is, right? Anyways, so I'm delivering pizza while I'm in college, and my boss has been in the pizza industry like six years. He's supposed to graduate from college this year, and I ask him, what are you going to do after college? We're all supposed to go out and conquer the world right after college, so this guy has to have some kind of plan.
He looked at me like I was delusional.
"I'm a writer, man."
Those four words changed my life more so than anything else ever spoken to me. I'd always written, since I was twelve participating in online-wrestling forums in which you acted out your character. I wrote because it came naturally. Never once, in the entirety of my nineteen years did I think that writing could be a career though, until a Pizza Sage said those four words to me.
So what did I do? I went home and wrote a short story and immediately understood that I was the greatest writer to ever touch a keyboard. I brought it to the Pizza Sage and he told me what anyone could have told me--it was horrible. I might be dumb, probably am, but I'm also tenacious.
I spent the next seven years writing almost every day. My first novel grew to the length of 40,000 words, then I threw it away. My second novel grew to 140,000 words. I didn't throw it away, but it was rejected about 50 times by agents. My next novel ended up at around 55,000 words, which I showed to a few friends and shelved. Then I wrote Dead Religion, which is the only reason I have an author page at Amazon.
I have had four short stories published, paid and unpaid. 'Effects May Vary' won an award that was voted on by readers, which was pretty cool.
I'm currently getting my Masters in Business at the University of Georgia's Terry School of Business. I'm doing this in order to not deliver pizzas but still keep the lights on. I have a girlfriend who will soon be my fiancé, and after ten years, I imagine she's ready for that title.
In my opinion this was one of the best series' I've ever read. Alistair/Prometheus, the AllMother, Theroux, Relm, Caesar, and Obs, with his slobbery licks, and every hero, male and female, were simply awesome. Now I'm going to read The War Machine book 2, when it comes out next month. I know it will be as great as book one and the 9 books about Alistair. I wish the story would have gone on and on.
I started reading you guys about a year ago this series started out fantastic but you left so many holes in the Books that you didn’t plug any of them ,,, besides being beyond rude how are we supposed to deal with that ! you can’t just leave everything un answered,, very very disappointed in this book how could a building kill the allseer. It wouldn’t kill him. What was his final need and desire with the all mother not to mention what happen with the damn aI. Those are just a big hole’s not county 5 million little holes I’ve never read Mr. beers but Michael you should be ashamed of yourself
Reading all nine books was a wonderful experience on a roller coaster! I could not put the books down. I'm sad they've all been read. I cried, I laughed, I closed my eyes, and refused to read on. Would not and could not except what might happen. I've read all of David Beers' books. I think by far this was my favorite series. If you want to be entertained, be on the edge of your seat, this is a must read series. Thank you David for the new friends ill carry with me.
This series has been wonderful. I read all nine books one after the other over several weeks. I've never been a huge sci-fi fan but this was a wonderful story with tons of action and wonderful characters you come to love. A fitting ending you the series. Can't wait for the next series. I highly recommend this series. I have read everything David Beers has written and am going to investigate Michael Anderle and check out his books too.
There are 9 books in this series. They all tell an integral portion of the story. You could just read the last book if that is your goal. But you'd miss the transformation of the primary character. To be fair, every character in the story played a part in the final goal. None of the characters are all good nor are any of then all bad... But their journeys are necessary for the story.
So 9 books later this story has finally been told and I believe done so very well, heroes died , villians got the ending they wanted and we got to see how it all worked out. It also gave mr a good opportunity to see if I shall pick-up more Beers books and the answer is yes. So onwards to more of this universe and more great writing.
There really is an awful lot not known at the end. I enjoyed this, though the bit with the twins at the end was a bit too anticlimactic--all of it was, really. Eight books built up these really huge threats, then it was just like yawn--die--blink--die--scratch--die--oops we're done. So over-all, I guess I give the series 4.5.
I listened to the first 6 books but the audiobooks weren’t complete so I ended reading the last 3. I do not really read this genre I prefer listening to it especially if it is from Graphic Audio but because the story was so great I read it. I just cannot wait for the last 3 I have to finish the series😍
Alliestrar/Pro does the impossible again and again. Great book series with lots of surprises. Never could guess how it would end but was a great ending.
Well written, wonderful premise, exciting action. Not much for sci-if but this is more than just that. Would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a an exciting book.
Read this as a prequel - finally the long drawn conclusion of the story in a slightly unsatisfactory manner. Would have liked a better closure of the conflict
