Hudson West is the enemy. Nico Shah is trouble. However, when they’re forced to collaborate on a town project, they can’t stop the passion from burning.
Hudson West is the enemy.
The calm, arrogant, stupidly hot owner of the rival restaurant in town never fails to push Nico Shah’s buttons. So when he and Hudson are invited to collaborate to cater the Chesapeake Days festival, he wants to say hell no. But with his mother’s upcoming transplant, he needs that money.
Nico Shah is trouble.
Hudson’s noticed the gorgeous, witty flirt and has veered far away. He’s looking for commitment while Nico’s looking for his next flavor of the night. Except now that they’re working together, neither can ignore the chemistry that’s one spark away from burning down a forest. And when they finally collide, the connection is beyond anything either has experienced.
But with Nico still terrified of the word "boyfriend" and Hudson needing someone who belongs to him, this can only end in heartbreak.
Katherine McIntyre is a feisty chick with a big attitude despite her short stature. She writes stories featuring snarky women, ragtag crews, and men with bad attitudes—high chance for a passionate speech thrown into the mix. As a genderqueer geek who’s always stepped to her own beat, she’s made it her mission to write stories that represent the broad spectrum of people out there. Easily distracted by cats and sugar.
This is the second book that I was fortunate enough to receive to read and review from this author. I believe "WOW"! probably says it all. Hudson and Nico were enemies, business rivals, thought they could never be friends mush less lovers...until something strangely unexpected and wonderful happened...Neither of them wanted to explore it too closely since neither had had much luck at relationships but they both knew this was something they wanted to try...wanted to succeed...wanted to totally loose themselves in. I hated Hudson's family, which I'm sure I was supposed to. I don't understand how parents could treat a child of any age the way they did Hudson. Noone has the right to decide how your life is going to be lived. It wasn't even because he was gay, it was because he refused to fit in their perfect family mold. Anyway...Katherine McIntyre certainly knows how to present a heartwarming, hot romance story with the absolute perfect couple. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that Hudson and Rico solved one of their problems with an idea that I had already wondered why they didn't try. Even though this is book 2 in the series, the books can be read as standalones. Thank you to Hot Tree Publishing and author, Katherine McIntyre for this opportunity.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Hot Tree Publishing and author, Katherine McIntyre in exchange for an honest opinion. The views expressed by this reviewer are entirely my own
Similar to the first, this rivals-to-lovers story has a commitment-phobe (Nico) and a man who wants a relationship (Hudson). The two are thrown together when asked to collaborate during the City's festival and both see that as a way to help ease a burden. Hudson wants to prove to his family that he is successful and Nico wants to help pay his mother's medical bills.
I enjoyed the relationship story. Nico and Hudson started off on the wrong foot one year prior when Hudson opened his restaurant and the miscommunications continue throughout. While Nico's family is awesome, Hudson's is anything but. I loved seeing Nico stand up for his man, but I would have liked to have seen Hudson stand up for himself at some point instead of just being told he did it in the epilogue. I also have to say that I am a HUGE sucker for a hot dance floor scene - something I do see near enough of - and this book delivered!
I think this book could have used some editing. Overall the writing just seemed off compared to the first book. Sometimes the timeline seemed vague and the writing repetitive. There were also times when it seemed that the author was saying Hudson dropped out of college instead of medical school and I had to go back and double check what happened. These things all pulled me out of the story and lessened my reading experience.
Sweet, funny, and sappy (in the best possible way). Another fantastic addition to this really wonderful series, with some fantastic characters, new and old. I’m really getting attached to these Chesapeake boys.
The fire between these two business rivals is scorching. Who knew the best way to handle the fire was to take it to bed.
These two are deliciously funny and hot. But also really sweet and kind. Hudson needs commitment and forever and someone to who he can belong. Then he falls for Nico who’s terrified of anything remotely nearing a boyfriend-level relationship. He is so loving and patient, giving Nico space to come to terms with the fact that Hudson has buried himself deep beyond his walls, and that perhaps a boyfriend is actually a pretty great thing to have. And boy does Nico know how to soothe the broken pieces of Hudson’s heart (just wait for when Nico meets Hudson’s jerk brother!).
‘“Nico shot his mother a look. “Keep complimenting him like that, and I’ll think you’re gearing up to steal him from me.” “Keep messing up, and I just might,” Mama said, her gaze twinkling. “Cold-Blooded,” Nico proclaimed,’
These really wonderful guys will bury themselves deep in your heart.
[I received a digital arc for an honest review] Stronger Than Passion is a standalone MM romance in the Chesapeake Days series by Katherine McIntyre. This author is very quickly becoming one of my favorites, and I loved this one so much. A rivals to lovers romance with emotion and steam. Hudson was this all-consuming force he couldn't pull away from, no matter how hard he'd tried.
After an unpleasant first impression, Nico has firmly put Hudson West in the enemy category, no matter how attractive he is. They can't cross paths without throwing barbs, so they try to stay out of each other's paths. Which ends up being impossible when they are teamed up together as the main attraction for the Chesapeake Days festival. Both of their restaurants could really use the boost and extra income, so they can't turn it down. The forced proximity just increases the sexual tension between them, and they actually start to enjoy each others company. But Hudson is looking for a relationship, while Nico only does one-night stands and runs from commitment. Will the connection they form be enough to keep them together for the long haul. "You're beautiful," Nico murmured as he pressed his lips along the column of Hudson's neck, delivering fever-sweet kisses that had him melting.
I have zero complaints for this book. The story line was enjoyable from start to finish. The conflicts and issues between the couple are right for them and not over the top. I Loved Nico! I Loved Hudson! Hudson's family situation was disheartening, and I wanted nothing the best for him from the start because he deserved all the love. I adored Nico's relationship with his brother and his mother, who was darling. I Loved all their snarky banter whenever they were around each other. Especially the fact that after they get together they continue with the barbs, but they are said with affection. They never stop being them once they form a relationship, and I really enjoyed that. I would have missed the verbal sparring if it had ended when they stopped being rivals. The sexual tension between them built and built and the moment it comes to a head was everything! The intimate scenes between them were *chefs kiss* They were so much more than their sexual connection though. Their relationship blooms from the understanding they have for each others busy schedules, the stress of being business owners and the mutual passion they have for what they do. Their relationship has the perfect balance of snark, emotion, and intimacy. This was exactly where he was ment to be. And Nico Shah was exactly who he was meant to be with.
I simply loved reading Stronger Than Passion by Katherine McIntyre. A rivals to lovers romance with delicious steam, hot and heavy dancing at a night club, intimate creativity, and honest emotion. I'm really enjoying this series and can't wait for the next book in the series.
At this point, Katherine McIntyre is a one click author that I recommend to basically anyone who is interested in this genre. Stronger than Passion only served to further that opinion for me, because Katherine McIntyre did enemies to lovers right with this one.
First, the reason why Nico and Hudson didn't like each other was something that felt surmountable without either of them actually having to compromise their integrity. They got off on the wrong foot and they stayed on the wrong foot for a year. Second, the reason they have to get over it makes me grin - because that was the universe giving their rivalry the big ole middle finger. Third, the chemistry between them - even when they were rivals - was just right. Like it was right there, thick and suffocating and within a few chapters, I was yelling at them to just kiss already.
And the characters themselves were amazing. Nico and Hudson both brought their own damages to the table, things that made them almost afraid to go all in. The things that shaped them into the men they are at the point in their life where this book takes place make complete sense and their reactions to them feel so real. The characters are also amusing AF, especially when they're trying to insist to themselves that they don't like one another they just think the other one's hot -- and then getting mad about it.
The side characters are all amazing. I loved Nico's entire family, but his mom? Well I have a huge soft spot for his mom. I can't wait to see what's going on in Taran's life too, and I'm pretty sure there will be a book about that at some point because the bits we got of him were just too intriguing. (Bonus points means I'll get to see more glimpses of Nico and Hudson again because I adore them.)
Stronger than Passion is an enemies to lovers (rivals to lovers more accurately) romance told in dual POV with good heat, a generous serving of heart, and a sprinkling of angst for flavor. It is the second in the Chesapeake Days series but you don't have to have read the first one to understand it - because I haven't read the first one (yet) and I was able to dive right in. Highly recommend.

If you love a good enemies-to-lovers, I think you’ll really enjoy Stronger Than Passion, I know I did.
I absolutely loved both Nico and Hudson from the beginning. Although they are enemies, they are still both likable guys and the sparks flew between these two, both in and out of the bedroom. Their chemistry was out of this world and they were smoking hot together.
This was a well-written story, that flowed well and was full of witty banter, meddling friends and family members, good food, and some smoking hot sexy times. Although this is part of a series, it can be comfortably read as a standalone, which is what I did, but I’ll definitely be checking out book one and I’m looking forward to book three. Definitely recommendable!
* Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. *
Stronger Than Passion was a terrific enemies-to-lovers story. It’s the second book in the series but can easily be read as a stand-alone and was a great read. Hudson and Nico get off to a bad start due to a misunderstanding and have become enemies, but when they are asked by their town to collaborate for an upcoming festival attraction starts to take over. I loved Hudson and Nico, they're both struggling with personal problems and can’t say no to working together, and watching their journey to happiness was an emotional, steamy and fun ride. I highly recommend this book. I received a copy of this book from GRR to review, and this is my honest and voluntary opinion.
I felt the passion! It leapt off the page and grabbed me! And not just for the food!
Then the humor just made everything they were struggling to achieve even better.
There might have been some 'opposites attraction' at the beginning of the book but Hudson and Nico quickly became as necessary as air for each other. Their backgrounds and family life were completely opposite from one another, which was good, since Hudson's was awful. Money definitely can't buy happiness or the feeling of belonging!
Once they begin to lower their defenses and learn to work together, nothing could stop them.
Which is really great, because there is a lot of pain and loss to overcome.
I'm so looking forward to the 3rd book in this wonderful series.
Chesapeake City is a thriving peaceful place that bings joy to the community and the tourists that visit. Nico Shah has made Port of Call a successful business in the city. He’s getting ready for a big five year celebration and has the prefect idea to bring in more revenue. Nico and his younger brother Taran, know the importance of the revenue and how much it would really help their mother. But Nico discovers that the popular band he wanted to higher is no longer available.
Hudson West opened Harbor Pointe about a year ago. Harbor Pointe quickly became very popular and the number one competition for Nico’s, Port of Call. With Harbor Pointes Summer Series, Hudson has already hired the band that would have brought Nico the much needed revenue.
With the revelation, Nico can’t hold back and confronts Hudson, but Hudson doesn’t bend. Nico can’t believe he took time to try and befriend Hudson when he first arrived. But Hudson just blew him off, leaving Nico feeling Hudson is better than him.
Nico has a loving family with Taran and Amrita, their mother. He has no problem with expressing himself. He likes being free, hook-ups are his thing, and making no commitments. But Nico has a hidden fear.
Hudson chose not to follow in his fathers and siblings footsteps. He was more comfortable in the restaurant business and wished that he could get his Fathers approval. Hudson, although, in his mid-thirties, still takes the verbal and mental abuse from his father and siblings. He won’t stand-up to them and the only one that is somewhat supportive is his sister, Jessie.
With all the continuing head butting between Nico and Hudson, they find themselves in a predicament. Gale, the head of the Chesapeake Days Festival, has an opportunity they can’t refuse. She want’s the two top restaurants, Harbor Pointe and Port of Call to share a booth, “Chesapeake Eat’s”. Can Nico and Hudson put down the silver ware and their snarky weapons and make this work?
“Stronger Than Passion” is the second installment to the “Chesapeake Days” series by Katherine McIntyre and she doesn’t disappoint. Nico Shah and his small family take center stage with this one. Nico and his brother Taran made their appearance in the first book, “Stronger Than Hope” and we get to learn more about them. Amrita, Nico and Taran’s Mother is a nice addition to the series. Amrita brings warm feelings and heartfelt moments in the relationship that she has with her two sons.
Hudson West and his family story reflects the difference of the two families. There’s so much heart break, anger and confusion for Hudson. He tries so hard to prove himself to a family that doesn’t seem to care or understand. No matter what Hudson does there’s always an ultimatum to face with his Father. Hudson’s feelings of low self esteem also carryover to his personal issues too.
With the introduction of Hudson West and finding out more about Nico there’s several returning characters: Taran, Nate, Linc and Beck, and Sarah. The story also introduces the crew at Harbor Pointe: Der, Kerry, Leigh, Danny, Liam and Debby.
“Stronger Than Passion” along with all its characters is very entertaining. I’m excited to see what Katherine McIntyre has in store for book three “Stronger Than Longing”.
Thank you to the author and GRR for an arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is my first Katherine McIntyre book and I enjoyed it very much. Stronger Than Passion is a simple story with no over-the-top complications, which was refreshing. Set in a small town, two people who work in the restaurant business meet, rub each other the wrong way at first, are forced to collaborate for work, and then discover that perhaps they've misunderstood each other all along.
Hudson and Nico have great chemistry and are very endearing. They both have realistic personal and professional stakes to overcome. They do this & find love along the way. I enjoyed seeing a South Asian protagonist as a main character - not having read many m/m novels with them as main characters. I loved the dynamic between Nico/Taran/their mom. Hudson's family sucks. They didn't take over the story for which I was grateful. The few scenes in which they appeared/Hudson's own thoughts and reactions around them were sufficient to make me dislike them intensely and feel for him. When Nico stood up for him, I read that section many times and applauded. It would have been nice to have seen a scene or two of them turning over a new leaf or trying to by the end of the book, but no matter. The intimate scenes were very sexy and romantic.
The beginning was a bit of a slow build for me and I do believe the book could have been edited a bit more. The writing felt a bit repetitive in some places, there was some overuse of dialogue tags that pulled me out of the story, and some words were overused (for example - "dry tone"- all variations of this, "amused expression/tone".)
But overall, this was a good read and I look forward to reading Taran and Silas's story!
It appears I am on a Katherine McIntyre bender beginning with the dark and gritty Midnight Heist Outlaws #1, followed by the true to life romance of Wisdom Check Dungeons & Dating #2, then combining a bit of both grit and romance with deep devastation in Stronger Than Hope Chesapeake Days #1. This month with her opposites attract, profound loss, Intelligence Check Dungeons & Dating #3. So far all have been five heart reads for me, let’s see if Katherine pulls another five hearts from me with her latest standalone enemies to lovers Stronger Than Passion Chesapeake Days #2. Okay, so the five hearts above gives this away, here’s why…
Nico Shah is established in Chesapeake City as the owner of his bar and grill Port of Call. When newcomer Hudson West opens his high-end restaurant venture, Harbor Pointe, Nico graciously offers to help in any way he can. A single barb rejecting the offer solidifies their standing as sworn enemies. For a little over a year now Nico and Hudson have been engaged in a battle of wits to undercut the other.
Hidden beneath the biting jabs and fury dormantly lies something neither is willing to entertain but shows in the heat that radiates between them. For Hudson and Nico, the saying he doth protest too much is given new meaning. WOW! Denying their passion for each other only makes them more of a power duo that is extremely appealing. Being the strong-willed individuals they are, when “it” finally happens, they stubbornly deny their destiny – Idiots, but so dang HOT!
Hidden beneath their facades lies a series of troubles facing both Hudson and Nico that only fuels the fire between them. Since these are an integral part of the story line, the only thing I will mention is that the majority of Hudson family are horrible individuals. While there is a touch of homophobia, forcing a person with the destruction of their dreams just so they fit a specific ideology of who they should be is disgraceful. Thank you, Katherine, for giving Hudson the family that deserves this wonderful man.
With the help and guidance of family and friends Hudson and Nico put their bad luck with relationships behind them and forge a path that brings them together both romantically and professionally. They make mistakes but own their actions with some of the most honest and tender interactions. Together remove the obstacles in their way and despite the odds once stacked against them, look forward to the future.
I absolutely loved Stronger Than Hope so was a little wary of reading this because I couldn't see how Katherine could follow it up and make me love Nico and Hudson as much as I did Nate and Linc. Needless to say, she surpassed all my expectations and allI wanted to do the whole way through is give each man a great big hug. Nico and Hudson were complete opposites, one fiery and commitment-averse, the other cool, calm and collected, wanting nothing more than a relationship. Underneath, of course, there is so much more going on with both men shaped in many ways by their fathers. After an unfortunate start and then being thrown together to collaborate at the town festival, their unwilling attraction to each other ramps up until neither can resist the other. The real antagonism they had turns to snark then friendly banter as they get to know each other properly, and although both find it nigh on impossible to open up to anyone, they manage to do just that and let the other in. The heat between them ramps up throughout the book finally explodes, and oh boy, have a large glass of water handy. Actually, you may need a gin and tonic instead, or perhaps you'll need to seriously reconsider how your G&T is served in future! Of course, there are setbacks as each upsets the other and Nico defaults to running away as fast as possible but he also realises that he wants to run back to the best thing he's ever had. Hudson is the real deal and Nico proves that to him at the end with a beautiful gift and at the fifth anniversary party of Nico's business. Nico's mum was a tiny ball of fire, so wonderful with Nico, and I liked his brother. Hudson's sister was the only one of his family worth the time of day, because the others didn't deserve the courtesy of a first glance, let alone a second. It was so nice to see Nate and Linc again too. Katherine has created two marvellous characters who feel real, not fictional, because they leap off the page. Her writing drags me in and I read this in one sitting because I genuinely needed to see their HEA before I could go to sleep.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 2 in the Chesapeake Days series, but it can totally be read as a stand alone to book 1. Linc and Nate do pop up, but you don't need their story for this one to make sense. BUT! It was a bloody good read, and Nico is Linc's best friend.
After a less then stella first meeting, Nico and Hudson are at loggerheads. But being forced to collaborate on an event that will benefit both their businesses AND the town, they actually get to know each other and those snipes and barbs become less sharp and more flirty. Nico doesn't want a boyfriend, but that's all Hudson wants.
This is a proper enemies to lovers book and I loved it!
In book 1, this two, whenever they meet, have nasty comments to make to each other, but what I loved about this is, as they got to know each other, the meaning behind the barbs changed, and they become flirty, and it isn't too long before they realise they could be good for each other.
But they both carry some baggage: Nico's fear of relationships and falling in love (but that makes sense, once you get his whole story) and Hudson dealing with his male parental unit (you'll see why I do not want to call him a father) and things spiral for both of them.
Hudson messes up more than Nico, which surprised me, though. But when Nick DOES mess up, tis a doozy!
It's smexy and steamy, emotional and funny, and everything in between!
Both Nico and Hudson have a say, so we get it all. We get just how much Nico loves it when Hudson teases him. We get just when Hudson starts to see when Nico is much more than the business man he portrays. And while we have to wait far too bloody long, we do get an I love you!! Far too long I had to wait and I wasn't sure whether I would! So well played for keeping me on my toes, Ms McIntyre, well played.
So Jer, Nico's friend, still needs a story, but now I see Taran, Nico's brother, needs one cos something happened here that set all sorts of alarms off for me!
But I'm really not too fussed who's next, cos I'll read it, regardless!
Are you ready for the witty and scorching second installment of the Chesapeake Days Series? When these two strong minded business men are put together to help make the town event better, sparks will fly, feelings will sneak up and the explosions is going to be worth the wait.
Nico has been running Port of Call for the past five years and has worked hard to make it the place it is today. Hard work and long hours aren't that hard when you keep your life and relationships simple. Excited for the five year celebration plans but also looking for the additional revenue to help his Mamma out where he can. Nico has kept his heart closed for far too long, after watching two of the most important people to him loose their love.
Hudson is working against all the odds, New start up resturant is his passion against the wishes of his uptight family. Leaving behind the prospect of a career in medicine for life in the hospitality business. This has caused him additional problems with his family as he was always the black sheep. Sure he has found some friends within his business but life still feels lonely at times.
When Nico and Hudson are asked to collaberate for the town festival, sparks begin to fly. What once was fast insults quickly turns to fast fun flirting. Could it be that these fellas got the wrong impressions from the start. When they see that they both might be more than what is seen at face value, their might be some room for friendship. Or will the sizzling attaction have them stepping over the line and into something more? Could their be longevity for this romantic and commitment phobe that no one seen coming?
A great emotinal addition to the series with small glimpses of past characters and some focus on those to come. Now we wait to see who finds love next.

I really enjoyed this! Enemies to lovers Great banter Both guys externally cocky but internally battling insecurity and loneliness Amazing connection… like wow
So we have Hudson, blue-blooded Captain America, black sheep of his horrible family. (His parents have no concept of unconditional love or wanting your child to be happy) And we have Nico, gorgeous, good son and friend but emotionally unattainable. These guys initially can’t stand each other(ish) but can’t deny the attraction… and when they finally act on that attraction… let’s just say one of the hottest kisses I’ve ever read! Chemistry is palpable! 🔥 Of course commitment-phobe Nico doesn’t make it easy…he hasn’t had a relationship since high school and that’s by choice. He is all about the hook up and our Hudson wants something real. Normally I get frustrated with too much push and pull… but the little bit of one step forward two back seemed very natural in this situation. I appreciated Nico made the first gesture forward if he let his fears stall him a bit. Hudson wasn’t a doormat but there was a moment at 60% that I teared up over Hudson’s sense of being alone and unloved. Of course that was not the case when Nico realized how much Hudson meant to him. Hudson’s family really was the worst and tried controlling Hudson even if it meant breaking him. But Hudson and Nico are stronger together…and eliminated barriers to their HEA. End result is an ultimately happy, balanced, and committed relationship. If I have 1 little critique…it’s with the overuse of Nico throwing his finger up. He’s in his mid-thirties and very witty so thought he could have better parting shots than the finger. But, that’s true to Nico…and Hudson obviously has no problem with it so I didn’t either! 😍
We are back in Chesapeake Bay for Hudson and Nico's story. These guys start off as enemies and business rivals before being forced to work together brings out a different side of their relationship.
Hudson has opened a restaurant in direct competition to Nico's and stolen the band Nico wanted for an event at his. Nico tried to be nice, welcoming and supportive but Hudson throws it back in his face. In fairness Hudson feels he has to prove that he can make his restaurant a success single-handed to prove something to his family. His family believe he has thrown his life away when he quit medical school and that running a restaurant is beneath him.
As they work together the tension between them simmers over into a passion that sparks into life. However it is not plain sailing. Hudson is keen for this to become more while Nico is trying hard to run from more having never been in a relationship before. Nico has always been happy playing the field and never settling so that he can never be hurt.
The chemistry between these two was there from the start and it was fun watching their relationship turn from hate to love. I really enjoyed the verbal sparring that takes place between these two as they fight the feelings they have for the other. A great addition to the series and it was lovely to be back in Chesapeake Bay again.
The first book was good but the second, loved it. It was soooooo good. Better than the first one but maybe that’s because I’m such a sucker for enemies to lovers.
Stronger Than Passion by Katherine McIntyre is the second book in the Chesapeake days series. It’s a standalone but it’s better enjoyed reading in order. The characters are all integrated in both books and You’ll get a better and full picture of the story.
I want to go to this town, to the restaurants, and to the festival. I want to eat jerk chicken tacos and drink one of Nicos fancy drinks. I want to go get a coffee in Nate’s coffee shop. Katherine paints such a clear picture it feels like I’m inside the book and makes me want to be a part of it.
Basically two rival restaurant owners have to come together and collaborate to cater the Chesapeake Days Festival. Once they put their differences aside things start to get interesting and let me just say the first sex scene is 🔥🔥 loved it!!
I really enjoyed this book and I’m excited for the third one.
I have received an ARC through gay romance reviews and these are my honest opinions.
What a wonderful read for me! I look forward to reading more in the “Chesapeake Days” series. This book is the 2nd one in the series. The trope for this one is “From Enemies to Lovers”.
The story focuses on the theme of “Chesapeake Days Festival” and this year’s festival responsibilities falls on Nico Shah, the owner of a restaurant and Hudson West, the owner of another restaurant. The issue is Hudson so loves to push Nico’s buttons whenever he gets a chance. The background story is when Hudson opened his restaurant, Nico was there to offer support but he brushed Nico off. Thus, that leads to a bitter rivalry between them. However, they begrudgingly agreed to work together to sponsor the festival. The thing is Nico has a reason to do this…his mother needs a transplant and he needs the money that the festival would generate. Hudson also has a reason to do this…he needed to prove to his father that he is cut for the restaurant business, not the medical field which his father insisted he complete school or he would have to pay back the cost of going to school which was a lot of money. With all that drama, you’d have to pick up the book and read to find out what happens!
Character Chemistry: Let’s just say that I completely understand the bickering as a love language
Plot: Hudson and Nico hate each other’s guts and own rival restaurants, which makes it really challenging when they have to work together on a food and drinks collab for the hometown summer festival
Overall: If you’re at all interested in a charming small town romance between antagonistically rival restaurateurs who are positively thirsty for each other, look no further
Ah, the classic case of protagonists thinking they know exactly who the other person is and being completely wrong about it.
Nico and Hudson got off on the wrong foot when Hudson first opened his posh restaurant in Chesapeake City after dropping out of med school. After about a year of antipathy and avoidance, Nico and Hudson are offered the job of catering the Chesapeake Days festival…but they have to do it together. With neither man willing to turn down a lucrative offer, Nico and Hudson are forced to work together. And with working together comes getting to know each other. And with getting to know each other comes understanding each other. And with understanding each other, the hatred just peters out.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. We disclose this in accordance with 16 CFR §255.
This book is really good. When two guys who definitely start out their relationship on the wrong foot have to learn to work together for the local food festival, sparks will fly. We have lots of snark, barbs, innuendos, hate sex (that really isn’t hate), and learning to trust and how to build something lasting. Nico has always been a hook up kind of guy because the hurt isn’t worth it when love doesn’t last. Hudson just wants to be loved and appreciated for who he is and is definitely NOT a hook up kind of guy. His family is also a bunch of pretentious jerks (that word if not strong enough) who aren’t worth his time. All of the sweetness and breaking down of walls catches them both by surprise. Such a lovely book! Once Nico goes all in, he doesn’t back down! Got a swoony moment or two in there as well. This is another book by this author that is worth the time it takes to read! All the stars!!
“You’re all I ever hoped for, and honestly something I never believed I’d find.”
Nico and Hudson are both working hard to make their restaurants successful. Nico has been at it longer, but both are passionate about what they are doing. They are very different men, just as their restaurants are very different places. But both are dealing with family pressures. Things didn't go well when they met and neither has taken the time to get to know the other. They just feel antagonized by one another and make a lot of assumptions. When they are tapped to work together to provide food for Chesapeake Days festival, an opportunity neither can pass up, they finally are forced to work together, get to know one another and find out that each of their strengths are a good complement to the other's needs. They are attracted to one another but more than that they have the makings of good partnership - both personal and professional - in a way that brings ease to one another's burdens and worries. Yes, these opposites attract. But they also help one another to work their way through and to shine. I received an ARC from GRR for an honest review.
✔ Enemies-to-lovers ✔ Rival bar owners ✔ Dirty dancing at the goth club ✔ Gin and tonics 😏
Nico and Hudson's story was everything I didn't know I needed during a week where real life was kicking my behind!
These two...phew! The bickering, the stolen glances, the overwhelming tension...These moments mixed with one fantastic dance scene and a very imaginative use of gin and tonic had me grinning from ear to ear and then some. I have never craved a night of dancing and Gin and Tonics more!
But what's more, amongst all this attraction and sizzling chemistry was a wide range in emotions, a great cast of characters and the development of a sweet, endearing romance. I loved seeing Nico and Hudson give into their attraction, struggle with their growing feelings toward each other and ultimately allowing themselves to want more.
All in all, a great addition to the series and one steamy little read.
This book is the second in the author’s Chesapeake Days series and I am loving it. She has created a small coastal town whose residents just draw you in and make you want more. This is Nick and Hudson’s story, which is an enemies to lovers, rival restaurant owners with equal parts snark/sass and a chance at love that is right there for the taking. If they can only get over their their insecurities (both, but mostly Nico) and disapproving families (Hudson). Forced to work together for the upcoming Chesapeake Days festival they each see a different side of the other. The chemistry has always been simmering, but becomes intense the more they get to know each other for real. Their friends, staff members and Nico’s family are all encouraging and I enjoyed seeing previously mentioned characters. Nico and Hudson are perfect for each other and I loved seeing their relationship grow, setbacks and all. I can’t wait for Taran’s story next!
This is an amazing addition to the Chesapeake boys series by Katherine McIntyre 😍. Nico and Hudson were sweet, funny, sappy and swoony in the best possible way. I'm in love with every single character of this series.
These two business rivals definitely know who to make everyone falling in love with them. The fire and passion between Nico and Hudson was scorching 🥵. They were totally Funny and Hot. Their banter was really enjoyable. There were some pages I skipped through but that doesn't make this story any less perfect or beautiful ❤️. Hudson was patient with Nico , who was afraid of anything related to longtime or Boyfriends. But Hudson was capable of breaking those walls and making a place for himself in Nico's ❤️💜. Their love story wasn't easy. They had to work through their problems.( Though it was a completely realistic problem. Who doesn't have a problem in relationships, we all need to work through it together.) This is the best thing about the author, she wrote the most amazing and realistic Stories. You can connect to her characters 🙂. I love reading her books. Can't wait for the next one. 🤗😀.
#ARC was provided by GRR and this is my honest review.
Ah yes, enemies to lovers in a small town where they really can't escape each other. My catnip. Add in a little forced proximity and *chef's kiss* yes.
There were a few times where either Hudson or Nico's reactions were way overdramatic, but in those cases they made my heart hurt in the most delicious way so I'll allow it. ;) The chemistry between them is explosive, whether they're bickering as rivals or... well, still bickering but as lovers, haha. I love that their love language doesn't change, and Nico's "ew, feelings" attitude especially is hilarious.
Once again, while I completely fell in love with the main couple and their romantic storyline, I also really enjoyed all the side characters and friendships in this series.
This is the second book in the Chesapeake Days series. While it can be read as a standalone, you're really better off reading the series in order starting with book one, Stronger Then Hope.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are unbiased and my own.
Katherine McIntyre continues their Chesapeake Days series with another entertaining book in Stronger than Passion. I enjoy enemies to lovers when it is believable. The author gave Nico, one-night stand king, and Hudson, serial monogamist, a truly rough road to HEA, which made it feel authentic. While the sparks from these two are overwhelming, the misunderstandings are epic. They both have difficult family situations, although of different varieties, complicating their lives further. One of the things I like most about reading a series is having characters from previous books put in an appearance and Stronger than Passion has plenty of this, since the setting in a small town makes it inevitable. As before, the author has planted the seeds for the final book in the trilogy. I’m already looking forward to it!
This was a great story. Hudson and Nico were opposites in many ways, but they both lived and breathed the bar/restaurant lifestyle. I liked them both, and I enjoyed seeing them move slowly from rivals to lovers to more. Their dread was mixed with excitement when they agreed to work together during the Chesapeake Days celebration due to an attraction neither could ignore. Both men had financial worries and personal uncertainties, so there was a lot of emotion here. Helping each other through their issues just brought Nico and Hudson closer. The supporting cast here was terrific and included Linc and Nate, the couple from book one. Hudson's family, other than his sister, were easy to dislike. Nico's mother and brother were caring and supportive. Chesapeake Days is a fun series, and I can't wait for the next installment. I definitely recommend this one!
Enemies to lovers is such a great trope, and I really like this take on it, which offers some likable characters, some sweetness, and plenty of satisfying moments: Hudson and Nico have exactly the right spark that lets irritation and rivalry tip over into chemistry and connection, which makes for quite the read. They’re both convinced they want and need different things, and watching them work through that offers plenty of emotion. I love this author’s ability to create characters you can care about on an almost visceral level– whose emotions feel so real and accessible that it sucks when they’re anything but happy. Well worth a read.

This is the second book in the Chesapeake Days series and I was able to fully enjoy it without having read the first book. This was a fun book to read. They start as adversaries and end up as so much more. This is the story of Hudson West and Nico Shah. Both are restaurant owners that are forced to team up for the Chesapeake Days Festival. Each has their own reasons to make this undertaking a success. I liked how the story developed and they slowly began to learn and respect each other. Not to say that there aren't challenges that both of them have to overcome. This is an engaging and fun story. It is well written and easy to read. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
