As long as you’re breathing, you’re still in the fight
Erin O’Reilly has been walking a dangerous line. In order to save her lover, smooth-talking gangster and former bomb-maker Morton Carlyle, she’s been pretending to be a dirty cop. Her efforts have worked well—too well. Evan O’Malley and his underlings are convinced Erin is a criminal just like them. But that means, by the unwritten code of the underworld, she’s now fair game.
The O’Malley family is a tinderbox of hatred, resentment, and ambition. When a botched car bombing fails to kill O’Malley enforcer Mickey Connor, the blast sets the whole thing ablaze. The fearsome ex-boxer is sure Erin and her boyfriend are to blame, and he’s not the kind of man to just take a punch. He hits back—hard.
A serious error in judgment puts Erin’s family on the line, pulling her loved ones into the ring. With more than one life hanging in the balance, Erin and her K-9 Rolf will need every bit of strength, skill, and courage to face down their deadliest opponent in a fight without rules or referee, where the winner will be the one left standing.
Steven Henry is the USA Today bestselling author of the Erin O’Reilly mysteries and the Clarion Chronicles.
Steven learned how to read almost before he learned how to walk. Ever since he began reading stories, he wanted to put his own on the page. He lives a very quiet and ordinary life in Minnesota with his wife and dog.
The Erin O'Reilly K-9 series is my favorite series to this date, and Steven Henry is now my number 1 favorite author. I love all the good guys and gals in this series, but my favorite will faithfully remain as Rolf, Erin's K-9 German Shepherd Dog. I love the way Rolf's psyche and thoughts are projected in all of his scenes. His favorite hobby is chasing bad guys, and if he gets to bite a few of them, then that's just an added bonus. The end result will be getting to chew and play with his Kong toy. This episode was so filled with action that there is no possible way to list all of them, but here are a few of the scenes: car bombing, a near bank bombing, a kidnapping, both good and bad guys getting shot and either injured or killed, and one really bad son-of-a-biscuit-eater getting his just rewards. Both Erin and Rolf are nearly killed, as well as Carlyle's bodyguard, Ian. Every current read is better than the previous ones, and I always look forward to the next volume. While reading this episode, I laughed (mainly at Rolf's scenes), cried when certain people were shot or injured, and became increasingly angry at the main bad guy, the buzzard on the front cover, Mickey Connor. I don't normally read all of these elements within the pages of any one book. Steven Henry has been blessed with the gift of storytelling, and even the curse words were justifiable and not overdone. I usually take a star away from my rating when there is too much cursing, and another star away from too much graphic sex. This series is perfect! This series is my happy place where I can hopefully continue to give 5 star ratings. I look forward to the next book. Oh, by the way, after I read the preview chapter of this book that was in the previous book, I had it figured out who Erin's sister-in-law was seeing. Just sayin'. Of course, you'll just have to read it to see if you come up with the same results that I did.
Action, action, action! Erin, Rolf, Vic, Carlyle, Ian, and all kinds of good and bad guys mix it up as one really bad guy goes after Erin’s people. I sure cannot figure out how this whole undercover operation is going to work out - ever. I will breathe slowly and calmly and send an Irish blessing to Author Steven Henry.
I was hooked as soon as I started reading the first book in this series. Sometimes when you have a series some books aren’t as good as others. This isn’t true with Steven Henry. I’m so involved & headed to the last of the series…at least for now! You will not be disappointed’
I love all the main characters in these books. I've gotten so attached to them. This book kept me on edge through most of the chapters. It was a great story. There was so much action and excitement. You get to see a soft side to Vic, a tougher side to Erin and pure love and loyalty from Rolf! It had everything. Highly recommend this series.
This is one of the best series I have ever read in all of my 70 years!! The action is always edge of the seat intense and each story line is different but with the same central characters so you start to care about each one of them! When I finish one I can’t wait to start the next one! And I am never disappointed!! If you haven’t read Erin O’Reilly I can’t encourage you enough to get started!
Never disappointed with this series. If new to this series start with the first and read through the series. Need to know the whole story because each one builds on the last
Once again Mr. Henry you have us spell bound from page one to the end! BRAVO! I'm anticipating the next book. Trying to make sense of this review so I can eagerly delve into the next! Again another winner!!!
Erin O'Reilly Mysteries rank among my favorite books. I am along for the ride in every action-packed book. I love the characters and then cases. Can't wait for the next one.
#15 in erin o reilly mysteries! Wow we have come a long way! Picked this one up after such a long time but the story so far was as vivid in my head as ever.
This was such a page-turner-up-all-night book! Like probably my favourite so far! Action packed and not 1 dull moment. Loved it!
I hardly read book series cuz they arent consistently good but the stakes in this story keep getting higher and it just keeps getting better and better!
These books are just so good. I blasted through Punch Drunk in a day. Erin and Cars are on Mickey's radar when his specially enhanced Hummer is blown up. With Mickey in it; and he thinks Carlyle is to blame. The big psychopath goes after Erin's family. This book has so much action and breath-holding moments that I can't say too much to give anything away.
This latest adventure hits a little too close to home for Erin. With h we family a target Erin takes down one really bad man. She and Rolf got their man. Read in 2 sittings .
