Dangerous Mike Blackburne took a bullet—bravely. Made a four-story nosedive—manfully. But recuperate in—shudder—the suburbs? That unnerved the big, bad bodyguard....
Thank heaven for Ms. Cindy Jones. The angelic schoolmarm and her two winsome kids shepherded Mike through a minefield of local busybodies and backyard barbecues. Then they ambushed his heart along the way, making him crave childish cuddles...and womanly kisses. Whoa! Mike belonged in the shadows, not this world of sunshine and love. Yet now that he'd discovered paradise...how could he ever give it up?

I enjoyed the way Mike had to learn about the suburbs. Being a bodyguard, most of his assignments were in elite and exotic places, so the suburbs nearly frightened him to death. I have to admit if I lived in Cindy's neighborhood, I would have been frightened, too. Cindy and her children are used to it, and Mike tries to take up the slack left by their dad who made the middle-aged mistake of leaving his wife and kids and marrying a much younger woman. A little repetitive in explaining why Cindy and Mike are the way they are, but otherwise an enjoyable read.
Bodyguard Mile Blackburn is injured on the job. He is recuperating at his sister's house while his sister is overseas. Next door neighbor, Cindy Jones has agreed to look after Mike until he is back on his feet. Mike finds it hard to adjust to suburban life, since he has never experienced it before. He finds himself beginning to like Cindy and her two children.
3 1/2 stars. A good story about a loner and a divorcée with two children who find they have more in common than either one of them expected, including love for each other and her children.
I enjoyed this story about the man who believed he didn't know what love was and even if he knew - his gut told him that no one, but his sister could ever care about him. When he is recuperating from a gunshot he meets a neighbor who decides to take care of him and introduce him to Texas suburbs. He not only forms a friendship with her but he starts caring for her children and they start caring for him. As the story progresses the richness that Susan Mallory demonstrates about small town life and the friendships there comes shining through. I thoroughly enjoyed this ebook.
at 47%, I am DNFing. it was interesting up until the local women begin acting ridiculously. then the hero asks the heroine to be a pretend girlfriend. well, that's just silly.
This is the first book I have read that was romantic the whole time. No breaking up, no leaving for years and no millionaires. Just love between Mike and
