Black Spades #2

Queen of Fire

Rate this book
Everything has changed.

I fought against the darkness and tried to convince myself that I lived life on the edge in the grey. But I was wrong. Being in the dark was in my blood.

They changed me.

They may think they have ruined me but my desire for danger was a fire inside, and they just poured gasoline on it. I was always told never to play with fire or I'd get burnt. But what they failed to realize was that I am the fire. And now I'm coming for revenge.

The infamous Spades Trio - Reed Xanderson, Grayson Parker and Colton Cadman, might be the Kings of the Black Spades but I'm a wildcard - and with the Kings by my side, the Hunters are about to become the hunted.

Watch me rise.

Again, I recommend the "Dance With My Demons" series by Steph Macca instead. This one isn't bad, it just doesn't work for me. One thing to know - if you want smut - this is FULL of it.

it’s okay to love more than one person. If that’s what you want. I think if everyone’s on the same page, then there are no rules to love.

Blair fully transforms from being just a regular high school student, to being a regular housemate at the Spades fortress. Her bad luck continues as she's repeatedly attacked, yet she never sustains permanent brain damage. Reed gets more stressed as he leads the rest of the Spades junior league which includes fun-loving Grayson and grumpy Colton. While Reed and Gray are all about their love fest relationship with Blair, Colton continues to hold out.

Explosions, identities, siblings, car chases, more surprise identities, some murdery stuff, more siblings, stabbings, money, and finally - a graduation extravaganza with a cliffy.

COLTON: Damn this was frustrating. There were probably at least 4 times in this one where they came close to sealing the deal but got interrupted - and I freaking hate interruptions! I was choking my phone while reading it. They FINALLY hook up at the 86% mark and it was REALLY good. Wish it had lasted a little longer though.

BLAIR: That girl really started grating on me in this one. She continues to make dumb decisions. It's also really weird that we never truly address how she's surviving without her dad. Reed does say, "who the hell do you think is paying your tuition" when the situation arises - but she's never even thought about things like getting a car, house, dealing with insurance, clothes, legal documents, etc. I guess things were just too convenient.

MYSTERIES: Man, there was so much going on that I got tired. At this point, I wasn't even invested in them.

OVERKILL: How many times can you be blown up, stabbed, chased, shot, car crashed, etc. before it becomes too much?

SIDE PIECES: I like to keep a list of characters because it can get confusing - especially in a book with a billion of them. Know that some of these will be spoilers.

THE SPADES
Quaid Xanderson: Reed's dad. Leader of Black Spades.
Elladeen: Reed's mom (deceased).
William Damazo: Grayson's stepdad. Second in command of Black Spades.
Etta: Grayson's mom.
Spencer: Grayson's stepbrother.
Blagden Aalders: Part of the Black Spades (deceased).
Willa: Colton's twin sister (deceased).
Quinn: Blair's BFF (deceased).
Noah: Quinn's brother.
Levi: Blair's BFF.

THE HUNTERS
Harmon Hunter: Leader of the Hunters.
Valentina: Harmon Hunter's wife (deceased).
Lucas Henderson: Hunter's 2nd in command.

SPOILERS : You've been warned. If you're reading this book then don't look at the names.

Second book in this high action , dark RH Romance series, brilliant writing

Overall, I enjoyed this but not as much as the first book, which I was bummed about. It still kept me engaged like the first one, but I started to lose interest and skim read (especially during the numerous sex scenes🙃). Maybe my expectations were too high? Idk, but I was expecting and left wanting a bit more. I have mixed feelings. Was still a fun read, though!😊

Some notes/thoughts:
-I loved the action/suspense in book one, and with this being a gang-life RH, I was expecting more. I was hoping things would become more intense, but that wasn’t the case. There were really only 2 action/suspense scenes: the casino thing and the graduation scene at the end.
-So. Much. Sex.🫠😵‍💫🥱😴 I feel like the action/suspense elements from the first book were replaced by sex scenes. There was a lot, and they were frequent. To me, they didn’t really add anything to the story or characters and started to become repetitive. I found myself hoping and waiting for other things to happen and for more plot and action/suspense, but then bam another sex scene. And again, there was never any discussions, mentions, or uses of safe-sex practices… I know it’s fiction, but c’mon… do STIs and pregnancies not exist in this world? I really hope there isn’t a pregnancy in the next book.😩🤦‍♀️
-The characters started to annoy me in this, especially Blair. She became the weak, whiny, sex-obsessed FMC who thinks and says she’s “badass” and/or a “queen” (but hardly acts like it) that is all too common in RHs. There were some scenes of her kicking ass and getting deeper into gang life, which were fun and interesting read, but I was left wanting more. She lost some her personality, autonomy, and “spark” from book one, which I hated. Her main personality trait became the MMCs and lusting over and having sex with them.☹️ Just wasn’t feeling it…
-There was little-to-no character development. And I feel like the relationship development was really only shown through sex. There were some non-sex-related bonding and intimate moments, but I feel like the sex overshadowed everything, which left me wanting more depth and emotion.
-I also feel like some things were brushed over and not explained really well. I have questions about a lot of things… Certain parts just felt really rushed, convenient, and underdeveloped to me. And the story and pacing felt a little off to me as well.

Despite my struggles with this, it was still a fun, short, easy read, and I enjoyed it. I’m hoping the third book and final book will pick up some of the slack and focus more on the plot, action/suspense, and characters and not have so many sex scenes lol but… idk if I see that happening.😆🤞🏻

Fave Quote: "A pyromaniac like Greyson, A fighter like Colton, A leader like Read. I was Theirs and they were Mine."

This is the third book in the black spades trilogy & I'm  completely obsessed with it,  like seriously it is so good every  book just keeps getting better & better. It picks up right where the first book ended Blair  the main FMC tries to come to terms with the fact that her father isn't  really her father, Blair is in full rage mode & is out for revenge she is embracing her dark side & welcoming  the spades life style with open arms. The action &  plot twists just keep coming... You also get more in-depth  of a story of each of the main MMCs Reed, Grayson & Colton the relationship between all four is so ASF 🥵 like the spice in this book is so good.. Colton has to be my favourite tho something about that man's is so fine... 🫦 Do not even get me started on that cliffhanger of an ending it's wrecked me like "WHY"  tho, I sobbed like a baby .😭😭 I started the third book straight away cause I needed to know what happened!!! This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys dark romance , mystery, gangs, spice& Why Choose. Seriously tho I'm so glad I found these I absolutely love Steph Macca she writes such good books. highly recommended...

3.5 rounded up to 4✨✨
This is book 2 in the spades series and it did not disappoint. Even though parts were predictable it was a good easy read and I finished it very quickly not wanting to put it down.

Blair finds out her dad isn’t really her dad but was affiliated with the Hunters and was having to keep an eye on her for 18 years before she gets killed by them after gaining access to a trust fund her mum supposedly left behind.

She then finds out her friend Levi. Also is a Hunter. ( kind of predicted that one, even though for a moment I thought he would be her long lost brother.
But wait. No that is her new teacher ( predicted he was a hunter but the brother thing threw me but oh well he’s dead anyway)

Colton’s death at the end killed me. If he is actually dead I will cry. He just breaks my heart💔💔

Blair seemed less whiny in this book which I appreciated and preferred but the whole she wanted to kill John was just annoying like girl appreciate he’s dead and move on.

If Quaid is also fully dead I will cry💔💔

The story continues and Blair involvement with the Spades becomes more solid. She truly finds herself, and the boys give her a self confidence she kept dropping and needed reboosting.

The battle between the gangs heat up and gets more lethal and it turns out Blair is right at the centre of it. This causes her guilt complex to spiral especially towards the end of the book when the cliffhanger leaves us truly hanging.....

The relationship with her and Colton is hot and cold and constant whiplash. The other two however, are truly with her and what began as a fascinating draw, is turning to love - which all of them are in need of.

The Hunters cause a horrific event which there's no turning back from.... This also sets plans in motion, reveals truths that were hidden and cause losses that leave us shocked....

Blair still has some maturing to do but she gets deeper into Spades business now to get revenge for Quinn and to also find out more of her background.

More plot twists coming near the end. Levi, a hidden identity that turns out to be a relative, more betrayal, and Colton finally warming up to Blair in this book though still a bit cold at times.

That attack during school graduation from the Hunters gang was insane and wild. Not even sure how they kept up their grades to make it to graduation, but after this, no more little glimpses of them in school. They'll be able to fully concentrate on everything else now that they're out of school.

It's been constant action (and of course lots of smut too), but the mystery is still only half (maybe?) known. Excited to see what's in the last book and novella.

Ah!!! I didn't read this one as quickly as the other since I had things yesterday and errands today, but I was definitely reading every chance I got. This book was action packed. It's steamy too!

I love gang romances with a side of mystery and this one checks both boxes. There's twists and turns and then BAM! Something you're not expecting to happen, happens.

I love Blair, Colton, Reed and Grayson! The guys have this brotherhood bond that cannot be broken. Their relationships with Blair are growing and getting *super spicy* 🥵🥵

I was not expecting the twists at the end!!! Holy-what-in-the-world-is-happening! My jaw hit the floor atleast 4 times during that last chapter. I need answers and need to know everything is ok. FIX IT!!! FIX IT NOW!! I cannot wait for the next one!!

Format: 📱 eBook 📱

Everything picks up in this book - the action, the romance, the emotions. Again, I found it hard to put this book down; I just needed to know each twist as it unfolded. So many more secrets were uncovered, and what you thought you knew? You didn't.

I loved the continued growth of Blair throughout this book. She truly is an FMC who won't sit back and let her men protect her, and I love that for her. I love tenacity and strength in FMCs, and she continually shows it.

Watching the relationships with Reed, Colt and Grey continue to bloom was great, even if at times you wanted to strange them (okay, one of them in particular, but still).

That ending? Again? Seriously, Macca needs an award for these cliffhangers.

The foundation was laid in King of Spades, now we have stories expanded, but we also have more mystery and questions.

We didn’t know too much about the guys in book one, but we keep learning more and more about them.

Grayson is the cheeky enforcer, he’s witty and playful but viscous when his dark side rears his head.

Reed is the broody leader, he’s dominating and demanding but oh so focused on Blair’s needs.

Colton is an enigma, the shadowed protector, lurking just out of sight and keeping everyone safe. We really get into his psyche in this book and start to understand what drives him.

The damn cliffy at the end though, arghhhhhhh! So glad I have the next book to binge right away.

Wow, just wow!

This book is so good and completely loving this series. Blair is so strong. I love the guys too. They are so protective and even though they are technically the bad guys they treat her so well. Colton is protective too even when he wants to hate her. So many things happen in this book and I can't believe some of the things that happen.  Learn a lot of things and was shocked at some of it.

My heart broke in some parts and I'm still waiting for it to be put back together and that cliffhanger doesn't help at all! Man going to read the next book now because that was brutal. Loving the Spades!

This series keeps heating up with Blair and her Spades Trio in this book. This girl I swear takes 1 hit after another in this book, and it may get her down, but not out as she's got her boy's as her backup. This picks up from the cliffhanger in the first book and mercy does she find herself in more trouble as this book takes off and doesn't slow down until it gets to the cliffhanger, but don't let that stop you from reading as secrets kept hidden are unraveling one after the other. Will she be ready? So many questions and not enough answers so hopefully in the next book everything will be told.

Okay, so that ending has wrecked me!
Whyyyyy 😭😭😭

This book was significantly less cheesy and cringe-worthy than the last one. Sure, there was still cheese and cringe, but it was bearable this time, thankfully

Also, I absolutely fell in love with Colton in this book 🥹 he may have messed up a bunch, but he just cares a bunch

Though, to be honest, I really hate the FMC. She annoys the life out of me 98% of the time

A lot of the plot twists were very predictable for me. I had guessed who was who, but there were parts that still caught me by surprise!

Overall, a pretty solid read. I will be immediately binge reading the next book, too

Queen of Fire is the second book in Steph Macca's Black Spade Trilogy. It is honestly a sp*cy book I didn't know I needed!

I LOVE all of the characters in this book. Each of the men are unique and have their own way of handling the intense situations throughout. Not to mention each of their relationships with Blair is totally different.

Blair is the ultimate bad a**. She goes from being a rich, spoiled brat, to queen of an empire. I do not know how I would accept and handle half of everything that happens to Blair, but what I do know is I cannot wait to read book 3!

This dark and gripping transformation story captivated me from the very beginning. Blair’s journey from living on the edge to fully embracing her darker instincts is both intense and compelling. The dynamic with the Spades Trio—Reed, Grayson, and Colton—adds layers to the plot, amplifying Blair's thirst for revenge. The narrative is packed with twists, betrayal, and shocking revelations that keep you hooked until the end. Blair’s fierce determination and resilience shine as she turns the tables on her enemies. The action is relentless, the stakes are sky-high, and the ending leaves you eagerly waiting for what’s next. It's a must-read for anyone who enjoys dark, thrilling tales.

First off!!! The cliffhanger at the end had me sitting on the edge of my chair.
Queen of fire was full of new truths for Blair of her past and how she lost so many people. Blair grew up so much in this book, feeling her emotions while accepting her new life
Blair’s relationship with the Reed, Grayson, and Colton grew to be three beautiful different relationships for Blair.
I can’t wait for book 3 to come out!!

Newest Obsession

Queen of Fire is book 2 in the Black Spades Trilogy. Poor Blair has been lied to her whole life and she keeps finding out how many people in her life have backstabbed her. Reed, Grayson, and Colton are there for her and are teaching her the way to handle all of these revelations. The plot twists just keep coming and it’s hard for me to determine what’s going to happen next. This is a must read!!

Such a good book

This book was even better than the first (and I didn’t think that would be possible).

This book is filled with more heartbreak, but also more love as they all (even Colton) admit to their feelings. There is also betrayal…and so much danger!

As Blair comes to grips with the fact that the father she knew wasn’t really her father, she swears revenge. The end is a cliffhanger, but as a finished series, no need to wait to read the conclusion to this series!

I like the plot. It flows and perfectly paced. There’s lots of twists but the only things is that the twists (for me) are quite predictable and I already know what’s going to happen many chapters before. Like how Levi was probably involved with the Hunters and that he was in love with Quinn. It doesn’t give me that surprise and oooh moments. Despite that, it’s enjoying not that off putting for me to put the book down. This is my first series from Mecca and I’d say it’s an ok first impression.

OMG

Wow this second book is better than the first for me and I know the first was laying the groundwork for the characters and storyline but wow this one was amazing.
I’m loving who all the extra characters are that are linked and I did guess something fishy was up with that teacher but nope I didn’t see that being who they were 😱
That ending though 😭😭
I can’t wait to get my hands on book 3 now.

omg - I’m obsessed in this series

I’m completely obsessed in this series, it’s honestly fantastic!
The action, the deception, the torture, the gang warfare and the hot AF steamy scenes - phenomenal!
Loved every minute of this book, it moves at a fast pace. It’s written with such detail and emotion that I was completely mesmerised and couldn’t put it down until the very last word- that cliff hanger ending 🤬
Definitely reading more of this series

Blair & the Spades Trio are everything! We pick up where we were left at King of Spades and it is nonstop. Blair has taken to the Spades life better than anyone, including her, expected. The Spades Trio are the ultimate supportive dark boyfriends! The Hunters are being hunted and the new Queen of Fire is ready to end them all. However, there’s even more secrets, lies, and broken promises getting in the way. Can Blair & The Spades Trio come back after that cliffhanger? 5⭐️ 3.75🌶️

Great addition
I think book 2 was a great addition. It picks up right and away kept me entertained throughout.

We got a little action and suspense, lots of steam and we also learned some new things as well.

There was some growth in Blair's character and the relationships with some of the guys.

I'm not gonna lie about the ending...I definitely didn't expect that!!!

I can't wait to find out what happens in book 3!!!

Look if Colton didn’t actually sleep with Megan I’ll read the rest of it but that’s me on the DNF. Obviously they aren’t together so he’s not cheating but bro really brought that thing home for Blair to see? Ew. And then the whole kitchen scene was icky. Blair’s useless tbh the body betrayal when it comes to Colton is lame asf. I really like this author tho so I’m mad I have to DNF but I can’t deal with Colton and so far Blair’s box of crayons is empty dude

Well the unexpected keeps happening

Loved this book as the 2nd installment. I’m not going to say a lot because well you should read this if you read book 1. You won’t be disappointed.

Now towards the end I got frustrated with Blair and Colton. The back and forth was beyond irritating. I kind of wanted to smack both of them.

And that ending… I just wasn’t ready. Levi being Lucas’ son. Mr. Bane being Blair’s older brother and John’s son. Man I wasn’t expecting none of that. But most of all I wasn’t expecting Colton to get shot. If he dies I will be unhappy?

What?! No! It can’t end like that! My heart! No! This book was fantastic. Outdid King of Spades. We see more of Blair’s kick butt attitude and more of the guys. So much went down and was revealed in this book. Couldn’t put it down and now I’m dying inside from that cliffhanger. Those can’t be the last words… can they? okay wow so Blair really goes through it in this book and I feel so bad for her. She’s so strong and determined after everything she finds out. The tattoo scene was my favorite. I am very confident when I say I love all the guys in different ways and I swear to all that is holy if something happens to any of them I won’t be able to deal. Here I come book 3
