Skyler Reyes was a man, but also an Omega. Native Americans used to call him nádleehí, Two Spirits, but he never really accepted his dualism.
To flee from a world that perceived him as nothing more than a freak, Skyler became El Diablo. He was an outlaw but more than anything a protector for his gang of outcasts.
Horace Lewis was an Alpha. Pinkerton, the detective agency, put him in charge of catching Skyler and delivering him to them at Carson City, dead or alive. He wasn’t the only one to have been assigned to it, John Jacobi was a dangerous headhunter that had Skyler on his hit list, and was determined to be the one to bring him in.

RTC but this was such a fascinating take on a lot of different tropes and I really liked the ideas it had to offer, I just didn’t like how some of them werw executed.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion
Troppo corta, a mio avviso.
I received an arc copy of the book from the authors and this is my honest review.
I have read all the books of these two authors but it's the first time they have tried their hand at an omegaverse. I like omegaverse and was very curious to read this western setting. My favorite character is El Diablo because while his Omega nature makes it difficult for him, he's extremely strong. The book is smooth, the story interesting and the writing is good. I gladly recommend reading this book.
I’ve kindly received an English e-Arc copy of this book from the authors and this is my honest review, which I’ve updated and translated in English.
This is a story set in the Old West in an AU in which Alphas and Omegas, especially Omegas and above all male Omegas, are increasingly rare. The MCs are Skylar Reyes, a fugitive outlaw Omega half white and half Native American and Horace Lewis, an Alpha in charge to capture him to collect the bounty on his head. I know what you’re thinking: a Western omegaverse? *.* I personally haven’t found any with this setting, so I really appreciated the originality of that! Furthermore, I appreciated especially the accuracy and historical research that the authors have done regarding the geography of the mentioned places and the historical period. Plus, reading this book in its original Italian version was the reason why I met and fell in love with omegaverse! (Note: in this book, there is no mpreg). I really liked this book and its fluid writing style. Really liked the MCs too, found them interesting and intriguing and made me get into their story. I found their relationship sweet and balanced and their scenes together very hot! I’d have enjoyed it more if the book had been longer; I would have liked to read more about Horace and Skylar together and would have liked their relationship to be more in-depth, as well as the final confrontation. Inside the book there are also some very nice drawings of the MCs, made by one of the two authors. I recommend reading this!

You have an omega verse story set in the wild west era shortly after the civil war. The government has strongly suggested that our alpha MC, Horace, assist them in taking down The Devil and his band of bank robbers. Although he was dragged off his Vermont mountain home, Horace is given a hefty front sum to track down this Devil, who happens to be a male omega, which many people believe is an abomination. Omega women aren't treated very well, so the few males are even worse off. This becomes a race between Horace, another alpha bounty hunter, and the heat cycle that is about the hit the omega Devil, aka Skyler. Skyler's heats are painful and long without an alpha to help, and his band of robbers are other outcasts like himself.
The writing is good, I could picture this like the old westerns I would watch with my dad. Dude on a dusty horse tracking something through the desert of no where. Horace's motivation are to get paid and he makes no excuses for it. But he also isn't out to hurt anyone and want to do things peacefully and right. Classic good guy/bad guy in the wild west. There is a good bit of action when all the players finally collide, but that was it. Also reminded me of why I'm not a big western fan, not a lot happens through most of those stories. This ARC just was not really for me. But for those who do like it, this does have an HEA, there is not instant bonding between the A/o pairing, and the bad guy gets what's coming.
This was good. I don’t read a lot of A/O but I found this premise to be unique so interest was piqued… and it did hold interest beginning to end. Great world-building with enough old-West to give a sense of familiarity. There is a grittiness to this…all characters dealing with the aftermath of a brutal war. There was found family, action, adventure, sensuality, and a bit of steam.
The setting is an alternative world that is harsh toward objectified Omegas. Alphas are painted as uncivilized beasts with full power over Omegas. Poor Skyler is an outlaw, an Omega man in heat and Horace is an Alpha paid to bring him in dead or alive… hunting Skyler by scent. Neither is a bad guy, but Skyler and Horace are adversaries in every way. They are brought together first by hormonal urges then stayed together due to a bond and shared value in the oppressed.
The vibe is cool… drawings added something more. I could read more about this universe and band of misfit Alphas and Omegas
So first… this was a short book. Not a bad thing, but you won’t get big world-building with a short novel. A step-into-the-story quick and fun read.
Omegas get pushed to the side as weak or lesser in many if not most Omegaverse books. This happens in The Devil too, but in this case Reyes has become an outlaw and is protecting his band of similarly disadvantaged outcasts, Omega or otherwise. I love that Reyes is both part Native and considered two-spirit by his family; Omega and male.
I was quite engrossed in this debut English short omegaverse story by the Italian author. I really enjoyed the strong omega main character, Skyler. He's trying to defy what society pegged him as a commodity or a freak and give hope and freedom to people like himself. Then there's the alpha, Horace, who's trying to compensate for his role in the atrocities of the war on his people. Each character's hurt and struggles are laid out with care and with real emotions. The plot was intriguing and easy to follow. Again, such a great short!
This reads like a comic in a way. It is broken down into sections and each one is very concise. You can kind of tell this is an English translation but not in a bad way. If non-traditional punctuation bothers you though, you should probably skip this one. Not a bad story at all. This is a historical western style tale set in an brutal omega verse where omegas are mostly property and alphas are thought to be inhuman beasts. Not for the faint of heart. Skyler is “El Diablo,” a male omega who runs an outlaw gang in the old west. His gang is made up of outcasts, those who have been rescued from bad situations and have no place in “normal” society. Hunter is hired by the Pinkertons to bring him in because Hunter is an alpha and would be able to track him by scent. It’s a short book and the story is enjoyable if you like omegaverse stories.
The Devil was a really enjoyable read in the omegaverse universe, especially because we got to explore a new set of parameters compared to the usual ones, which I loved : - historical settings after the Secession War in the USA where the omega and alpha genders were instrumentalized to win the war - in a similar way, both gender particularities are used plotwise (during the omega manhunt by the alpha) - the omegas are mainly women and omega men are thought to be impossible or an abomination, and the existence of Skyler/El Diablo who is one of them.
I also loved: - how both MCs are morally grey; their past and present actions are governed by the need to survive and live another day - the secondary characters (even if I’m still very frustrated because everyone has so much potential storywise) - how the MCs rolled with what happens after they met in the best way possible for their personal interest and they do it staying true to their values and history. - the illustrations (love the portraits of them!)
But I’m very frustrated because it has the potential to be a full length story with easily a hundred or two more pages: the authors have chosen not to detail the last part of the story near the resolution and we all know it’s just the beginning of their story, of their relationship, but I really missed all the parts where they’re building trust and get to know each other even more.
If one day the authors decide to revisit this story to expand it, count me on being the first cheerleader!
Short omegaverse M/M “romance” Western Omegaverse is not my favorite genre but the blurb of this one captured my imagination and I had not read anything by these authors before. It was short: about 90 pages without the Afterward. I’ll say it gripped me immediately and I didn’t stop reading until the end. Horace Lewis is an Alpha and after the horrors he witnessed and participated in during the Civil War, went to Vermont to be alone. Being so far from civilization he’s all but forgotten the rut that can occur if being around an Omega in heat. He’s asked to find El Diablo aka Skyler Reyes, a rare male Omega because Horace can sniff him out, which becomes much easier than expected because Skyler is in heat. Oh. My. Word. This was a scintillating, explicit “romance,” I’m using that word loosely. Loved the ending. There will be drama, revelations with a satisfying HEA for these two characters and their compatriots. This was a well-written, edited and translated story. Fascinating plot. I’m already wondering what will happen in the next book in this series. If you enjoy M/M omegaverse, try out this short story. I think you may be surprised. I surely was. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews.
I normally don’t read this type story the blurb pushed me to try it. I found this held my attention. Skylar is strong and leads a group of thieves. Horace is a isolated alpha hired to catch Skylar. Skylar is not what Horace expects. The relationship between them is not as quick as I expected. I enjoyed the story and will try more.
An outlaw Omega giving shelter to a band of outlaws, found family, and an Alpha on a mission. This book managed to fit a lot of action, romance and drama within the pages. . My Rating : 3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟✨ . Skyler is an Omega outlaw by choice and he hates the societal hierarchy with a passion. Horace is an Alpha preferring to stay isolated after he witnesses the brutality of the war.The plot, the setting and the character introduced all make for an amazing story. Both the main characters have such different personalities and we get to see them find common ground despite the difference. Now, this is an enemies to Lovers romance, and the chemistry gets really explosive. I really liked the way the author wrote the meeting scene. Even though everything happens quick,it had a good flow to the story and the characters had their time. . The world building wasn’t much, but you get an outline as to how the society views each tier. I felt like we could have had more time with the adventure and the other outlaws, but it was till good. I really liked the pacing and the story development. The characters all had their fair share of problems and roles in the story. The ending definitely made much more sense and was realistic as well as a little rebellious and I was all for it. For a first time translated work, this book managed to encompass the Omega verse and the plot really well ! . Thank you so much LUX Lab for the gifted review copy! . .
This is fun! Great writing and storytelling, and great characters. Most of the book sets the world, really, through the perspectives of Skylar and Horace. Some time after the end of the segregation war, in a non-shifter a/o/b world, where omegas are worth very little and alphas aren't usually more than beasts led by primal instincts. The main characters break the mold, so to speak, and I really liked that. Skylar is an atypical omega: big, all fire and passion and gumption... and the leader of a gang of thieves. And Horace is an atypical alpha, in a self-imposed isolation, alone at his ranch, intended to fight his natural impulses... and the man hired to catch Skylar dead or alive.
Horace does catch Skylar, and things between them move kind of in a predictable way. And fast. Omega in heat plus alpha confined in a cave - you can imagine. But I really liked them as individuals and especially as bonded mates: imperfect yet perfect for each other.
I enjoyed reading this and I recommend it to anyone looking for an historical alpha/omega romance with a western setting and a happy ending.
I received an Arc copy of this book from the authors and this is my honest review.
The Devil is an omegaverse story set in the Wild West after the civil war. The alpha main character, Horace Lewis, is hired by Pinkerton agency to arrest the outlaw Skylar Reyes, an Omega male known as El Diablo. Horace, reluctant at first, tracks the outlaw down. However, what he’ll find is not what he expected at all. Furthermore, Horace find out that he is not the only one chasing El Diablo. I liked this book, it’s a short but fun reading. The setting is well-finished. I really appreciated the accuracy of the research done by the authors. Also, an omegaverse setting in the Old Wild West? Original. I loved it. I liked both characters; Skyler – half Navajo, half white, called nádleehí for his peculiar nature – is not the same, fragile Omega. He’s strong, and he’s trying to defy a society that considers him a freak, to defy a society that despise all Omegas and the weaks. Horace is an Alpha who’s trying to forget the atrocities committed by and on his people during the war. He’s grouch, but he has a kind heart.
An interesting twist on historical romance. It is not often ABO universe is used in a historical setting, so this was a rather unusual one. The world it is set in is a harsh one, rather gruesome almost, where all omegas are slaves, but all alphas are savages. It is all rather primal, which I did not expect to be to that degree since the period is rather close to civilized time, so to say. I still have a few questions, but there are always questions when something new is introduced. The characters.. a bit of a mess really. I liked the rebel group and their reasons for being outlaws. The alpha-omega uncontrollable primal instincts angle was rather cringe worthy to be honest. I liked how they tried to resist those savage, primal urges, it was a nice try, but they nature always wins heh? Overall it was an okay read with some unusual setting, time period and world building.
**I was provided an ARC of this book from the GRR for an honest review**
I read an English translation as an ARC. This is my personal opinion about the book and is given voluntarily. It was an interesting story (historical Western-set Omegaverse) and I enjoyed reading it. There was more backstory for Horace so I felt I got to know him better but really there wasn’t a lot of focus on character development. You could see that the story had started life as an idea for a graphic novel. As I read it I could see very clear visuals for each short, specific scene - it was like a movie unspooling! I would be interested to read more stories set in this world. I could see this being the origin story and there could be more stories about Horace and his ‘found family’ in Vermont or more stories set in the West. (Loved the cover and the occasional character line drawings too!)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’m not a fan of the omegaverse genre, but this book is very good. The worldbuilding is particularly interesting. I was intrigued by both the omega and alpha populations’ history and the western part. I think this is the very energy of the book! (I largely appreciated A LOT that there is NO MPREG here!) The characters are also interesting and well written. They are so alive and strong and I appreciated really much the dynamic between the two of them. I especially liked Skyler, this fugitive outlaw who tries to refuse his nature. The style is really fluid and the novel is a very pleasant but also quite instructive reading and I heartily recommend it.
THANK YOU TO THE AUTHORS FOR THE DIGITAL COPY that I received in exchange of my honest review.
Omegaverse in the Wild West! I've read a fair amount of omegaverse, but this is the first time I've seen it in this setting, so I was intrigued as soon as I read the blurb. And what about that cover? I absolutely love that cover, and it's kind of perfect for this story. This is a quick read, easily finished in about an hour, but what it lacks in pages, it makes up for in story. Of course, it's a quick shift from enemies to lovers for Horace and Skyler, but it works well with the alpha/omega storyline. Both of these guys are hardened by the lives they've lived, but both somehow still have such great hearts. There are several tropes wrapped up in this alpha/omega Wild West romance, including interracial, found family, opposites attract, forced proximity, cowboy, lawman and criminal... I'm sure I've missed some, but my point is that it all comes together for a thoroughly entertaining story that grabbed my interest on page one and held on tight until the very last word. This is translated from its original Italian, and I have to hand it to the translators because this is a pretty smooth read all the way through. There was an odd phrasing or two, but nothing that didn't make sense to the story or interrupted the flow. The story is well done, and I could easily read more set in this world. So, I'd say if you like omegaverse and you're looking to while away an hour or so, this is one to check out.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
A rare male Omega, Skylar becomes The Devil, an outlaw. Horace, an Alpha, is the Pinkerton tasked to capture him, and bring him in, dead or alive.
So, first things first.
This book is translated from Italian. English is my first (and only!) language and in places, it comes across as very proper. There is no slang, or abbreviations. Its all very correct, mind, just very PROPER. It does make for a slow read, for me, cos my mind was making it more . . .what's the word . . . . .common? I suppose that's the best fit. I kept translating the very proper English, into everyday.
It was, however, a very good read! I liked it, quite a lot.
Horace is Alpha, and a Pinkerton, and needs to bring in Skylar. But something about Sky's picture and then his scent throws Horace. He can't give the man up. Sky doesn't want an Alpha for his heat, he'll ride it out like always. But this heat is particularly bad, and Horace arrives at the right time. It's primal, their first mating.
I liked that things with Sky's gang aren't fully explained at first. It all comes out, just not in one go. It does take a little bit of time for things to fully be explained though, and I did manage to put some of the clues together correctly (for a change!)
I liked the world building, that Alphas and Omegas (both male and female) were dying out, given how the female Omegas were now treated. Betas are the dominant type. I liked that the war ran sorta along side the American civil war, that sort of time line.
It's well written and, proper speak aside, well delivered. It's short and steamy and both Horace and Sky get a say.
Passed a very enjoyable, if slightly longer than usual for this page length book, couple of hours.
I should mention, but it in no way affected my reading, is the formatting is slightly different to a standard form. It just looks different, is all. I know that some people have issues with stuff like that, and so I thought knowing ahead of time would make it easier. It certainly helped that I was given a heads up.
First I've read of these two authors, I will certainly read more.
