Made in her Image. Made from Magic. Made to Conquer. Made to Rule.
15 years ago, my father earned a life sentence for illegal Dark Magic experimentation. His test subject? Me. I’ve spent every day since, training to control the rare lightning magic he unlocked.
I swore to use this gift to protect all Elemental Witches from similar torture.
Now he’s escaped and Dark Magic Covens are threatening the safety of the Kingdom of Magic.
This reconnaissance mission should be a piece of cake. Lead an elite team to spy on one of the known covens. If only it didn’t also happen to include a certain prince with certain off-limits chemistry…
It should be a simple mission…but why do I feel like it could destroy everything I know about my Kingdom and my Magic?
Made from Magic is a New Adult Urban Fantasy featuring a strong female protagonist who knows she’s the sh*t, and a male love interest who would literally burn the world for her. Contains adult situations including violence and spicy romance…not in the same chapter…for the most part. Great for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and From Blood and Ash Ages 18+
Marianne A. Scott has been writing since she was a kid. When she was always singing, those stories appeared in song form, when she majored in acting, they appeared as screenplays, but novels and short stories were what she returned to when inspiration struck. Each and every story was driven by characters and love, and, most of the time, the hope that there was something fantastical about this world that us humans just haven't discovered yet.
When not writing, you can find her with her Kindle and a latte, sitting opposite her husband in their New Jersey home. In her other life, she teaches tiny humans how to sing, passing along her love of musical theater to the next generation.
The premise was very intriguing and enjoyable. The heroine though couldn’t hold my interest. She was great in the suspenseful scenes but her lovelife was all over the place. There was insta lust between her and Archer but later a werewolf appeared and saved her and then there was another attraction scheming. Moreover, the writing style and the dialogues weren’t that great and the single pov was monotonous.
Read this as an ARC so there will be NO spoilers…sorry not sorry, guess you’ll just have to pre-order it & read it!
Which BTW this book comes out 03/12!
Do you like werewolves, witches, magic, or anything to do with fantasy? Then this book is for you! New Adult contemporary fantasy romance!
Tropes include: Sassy MC who’s also the most powerful witch, chosen one from a forgotten prophecy, reverse body guard trope, forced proximity, dark haired love interest that is morally grey!
With all that being said let’s get into my review—I loved it, and I want more! Simple as that! I fell in love with the main character, love that her main love interest (the prince) is shy/awkward—but you can tell he is mysteriously a bad boy (and I feel I’ll get more of his true characteristics as the books evolve), and the plot is very interesting that it had me immediately going into the next chapter!
Marianne you did amazing things with this book and should be so proud! Can’t wait to read the others!
Okay I think this debut novel from Marianne Scott is really promising! However, it felt a little slow to start and I just wasn't as immersed as I could have been in the beginning. I really didn't like the insta-love on Archer's side.... when he got jealous over our mysterious werewolf man rescuing Katie from the mermaid, I mean COME ON. Some of the dialogue and interactions seemed juvenile but I'm not sure if we ever got a clear age on Katie and Archer so it's hard to judge (I think she's supposed to be 20?). That said, the biggest thing I didn't like about this was their relationship. The plot is interesting enough to want to continue but as of right now, I'm rooting for the unknown werewolf and Katie to be together... Or literally anyone but her and Archer.
I felt vindicated in my distrust of Archer with E's commentary on how Katie hasn't said I love you back and how she's afraid that Archer is basically love-bombing her in order to lock her down. And then how he swooped in and started burning up and killing people to get to her? Yikes. I'm picking up too many red flags from Archer (and so is E apparently)...
As I said before, I think this story has promise but is too underdeveloped to compare to ACOTAR and FBAA (as described at end of blurb). Hopefully though with books 2 and 3 we'll see some strengthened plot lines, more in depth world building, and a better romantic relationship for Katie.
1.5/5 stars DNF This was recommended to me and it just isn’t for me. I like the plot of the book, the idea of the book is great to me. Strong female lead whom is a witch is sent to protect the prince on a mission while they both have struggles. The dialect and the book from the get go just isn’t my style and isn’t for me. The book jumps in with barley information or build up of the characters which made the book unappealing to me.
I’m obsessed with this story! 1. Archer is hot🔥🔥🔥 in all ways of course. 2. Katie is an amazing badass superior stunning character. Excellent lead of the story. 3. The cliffhanger has me on the edge of my seat!
Made from Magic by Marianne A. Scott, is the first novel in the series. The main character is Kathryn (Katie) who is a badass high ranking captain in a superior (military-royal guard type organization). Not only is she a captain but she has extraordinary powers dark and light magic, which creates her elemental ⚡️ magic. She is a rare powerful beauty who has barely scratched the surface of her power and what is to come in her future. Asher is the “royal highness” Prince of the kingdom. Katie is his personal bodyguard for a prestigious dangerous mission. They form a romantic relationship and Katie works with Archer on his powerful magic 🔥.
The story leaves me breathless in many scenes, antsy in others. Highly recommend this series! 🔥🔥.5/5. Reverse bodyguard, touch her and ☠️, Strong FMC, Forbidden Relationship trope.
“I’ll do anything to keep you safe. I will burn the world down for you.” - Archer

Loved this! It reads like alot of the top fantasy romances that everyone has read. In the best way! Lots of twists that keep you on your toes just when you think you know what's happening...WRONG plot twist! And I am dying to know the werewolf's name! Ugh!
I am so thankful to have be able to be a ARC reader for this book and it has been an amazing experience. And I have to say I highly recommend this book to anyone! It is so worth the read. I love the pilot line, it has lots of twists that are unexpected. The characters are so well thought out and have lots of development throughout the book! And I honestly can’t wait to see what happens next, it leaves you wanting more! If you like spicy fantasy novels that leaves you wanting more then this is the book for you!
Read this as an ARC so no spoilers. Absolutely in love with the world building as well as the characters. No one is perfect and that’s exactly what I wanted. The story leaves you guessing and the different twists and turns are truly great. The main character has her flaws which makes for an interesting character readers will cheer for.
Fast paced. The first page grabs you with quite the opening. A well written reverse body guard trope and not to mention side characters such as a hot shape shifter. 👌
This is a 3.75 stars (rounded up in good reads) because although I really liked the book, the pacing for me felt a little inconsistent and it was a bit over the top with cliche, but those things are definitely subjective things. Either way, I liked the premise and I can’t wait to read more!
DNF 56% Juvenile. It's a standard plot with absolutely zero imagination. Its tropes are lifted from Twilight and Harry Potter. They travel around on broomsticks for godsake. Dark Magic, Light Magic, an MC that turns out to be a descendant of kings, a handsome prince with esteem issues (despite being hotter than a hot thing and a powerful pyromancer) Amazon describes it as "New Adult, Urban Fantasy Romance." - which in itself is slightly peculiar, what's a 'new adult' when it's at home? A recommended reading age would be more helpful. Anyway, there's little that's adult & not much that's urban. Take out the non existent chemistry between the heroine and the smokin' prince and all you'd be left with are typos. In a spirit of generosity I gave this two stars when it's really only worth 1.5
Im left staring at my wall thinking abou how to rate this book.
The book is about a very powerful girl that has the power of lightning. She is very powerful and can do all sorts of powerful spells that most can only dream off. She is the most powerful witch in history and at 20 years old is already captain of the witch world army. She is badass, smart beautiful and have I mentioned very powerful??
Yeah, that’s about it 😂
The book is not very well written, specially because our protagonist suffers a severe case of special snowflake. She is awesome in everything she does, defeats all her enemies, gets more and more powerful trough out the book and etc.
The book wasn’t bad per se, but it was far from good. I read it and enjoyed it as much as I judged it lol
Some decisions taken by the MC just weren’t that logical - Im talking about you, miss “turn myself to the dark witches so that they can protect my bff” - and as the story progressed, I went from liking it to being mildly interest in it.
The MC has light and dark powers and that makes her “unique”, she also controls lightning, which no one else does, and honestly, some things were just so rushed and thrown in our faces! Like the fact that light witches are also rare/forbidden (her finding out her mom has light for raw power out of nowhere, and also her mom telling her she is the descendant of one of the original kings out of freaking nowhere are very great examples!)
And let’s talk about the love interest…. The prince. I liked him, and didn’t. We only get to see him through her eyes.. he doesn’t really have any depth (or any of the side characters really) and we don’t understand his motivations for when he flips and kills everyone with his crazy powerful fire magic. He is sweet, and something that bothered me was that he is firstly presented as this perhaps naive and shy person, just to have a completely different personality in the rest of the book 😂😂
The book development and the ending weren’t enough to make me want to continue the series even though I kinda wanted to know what happens… but at what cost, really?!
The premise and idea behind this book, I like. The terminology is a bit basic—elite Dragon squad of warriors, light and dark magic, and so on. But the concept is there.
The relationship between the male and female character is confusing. As is the female character’s reactions and movements as a high ranking official in an elite army. She is very weak when it is convenient to the plot or to the main male character. And very very strong (of course the strongest witch) when convenient for a fight. I think that is the most frustrating thing, is her flip floppy attitude, and how comfortable the author felt with underdevelopment of a strong female leader who is supposed to be forged in war and grit.
All in all, I did enjoy it once she stopped being so involved in her mission. Since the mission made no sense. Fun, however it isn’t the next up and coming fantasy.
🆗 World with different beings but mostly focus on (elemental) witches 🆗 Military ⬇️ Monarchy ⬇️ MMC: good rich boy, innocent vibe, weak, afraid of his power, privileged, possessive 🆗 FMC: bad*ss, super powerful, (supposedly) wild, responsible and cautious leader, traumatic past ⬇️ Instant lust ⬇️ Instant "connection" ⬇️ Fast one-sided "I love you" ⬇️ Tell-no-show 🔥 Smut (1.75/5) ⬇️ Romance ⬇️ Plot ❌ Contradictory/inconsistent info
❗ Mentions past abusive parent (not sexual), burning people. Not too graphic.
Additional notes:
🌐 World building
Kingdom of magic
"four kings and queens reigned over the entire Kingdom of Magic. Each monarch represented a different section of magic: Light Magic, Dark Magic, Elemental Magic, and Magical Creatures. Two hundred years ago, there was a war between three monarchs, and most of the magical community was dragged into it. Only the Elemental King was willing to step in and put an end to it, so his bloodline has ruled solo from the palace in London ever since."
Most of the common knowledge of this world is given like an afterthought.
Not only is the main context of the beings in this world given a little too late just to justify some situation in the story but not much is explained about the precise differences between witches. It seems like a lot of spells (?? use of their power?) are common amongst witches. But then they mention things that are specific to a group which is not accepted... but then they have people who can do those spells... so...is it possible for different types of witches to do the same spell?! Or do they have those forbidden types of witches working for them?!
Nevermind.
It focuses mainly on Elemental Witches (with all sorts of elemental magic) with the Dark Magic Witches being the big bad guys. But then, oh the Ligh Magic Witches are also mistrusted and prefer to hide their magic (which brings to another question: if they can hide it how do they identify which type of magic one has? Is it self proclaimed? Can it be faked?). Then we have the Magical Creatures. Once more, not much is said about them except to inform, a little too late, they are also banished or forbidden to interact with or must be arrested in order to justify the shock of facing one when that happens.
❤️ Romance
Not my favourite, at least for now.
🔸Weak romantic connection
The romance was very bland and too much of tell-no-show and forced connection. As for the MCs first meet...it was...too meh...too cheesy...too instant lust.
Their whole relationship feels forced. The FMC was upset to be put on babysitting duty but all of the sudden he is hot so it is okay. He doesn't have any battle experience and can barely use his offensive/defensive powers but sure let her have the patience to teach him, even during a dangerous mission. He disregards her opinions, experience and orders but that's fine because he is "her prince".
To be honest, I felt more chemistry during the moments between the FMC and the werewolf than with the prince. Or that's a sign of my mental health and the proof of my morally grey preference 😅
🔸FMC: supposedly wild
It is said and made to believe she is wild, likes to party and likes men a little too much and doesn't take anything serious. It is mentioned, even by herself, that girls are jealous of her and men only want to get in her pants because of her beauty.
What is shown is she has been in monotonous relationships (the latest ending a few months ago) and she just had her first one-night stand. Not a single instance of a jealous girl was seen. Other than the guy she had a fling with, no other men disrespected her nor came on to her (except the MMC and the werewolf, but to be honest the latter has an excuse and was respectful while doing it). She is feared and respected by her colleagues and subordinates.
But I have to mention the fact that she is not honest/open with the MMC even with little things doesn't feel right. Why lie about being accosted by her ex?
And I am really not a fan of the MCs flirting with others.
🔸MMC: weak, good, rich boy, prince, adored by everyone
He wants is moment of valor, to prove himself. And I say prove but not much is prepared. He basically is just accompanying a group to go and apprehend some dark witches that have been located in a specific place. I don't see how he can prove himself by doing that but okay...
He has not developed his magic to be able to contribute. But sure the FMC gives him some lessons and he learns some things pretty fast. Oh, to have the magic learning ability of MCs ...
He is privileged which means he has that aura of being out of sorts with reality. He is a good boy everyone adores and wants to protect and defend.
But then he has certain attitudes that leave a lot to be desired. He is possessive but straight out disregards, disrespects, orders the FMC (which has much more experience than him) and acts alone during the mission endangering everyone. He doesn't explain himself and she just casts that aside, barely mentions or thinks about it and continues to adore "her prince".
✍️ Plot
The final part of this book... Who in their perfect mind would choose to go to the person who has tortured them instead of their loved ones who have helped them and supported through what happened?? Because of something a not very sane person said? Someone who has been conditioned by the same torturer??! At least, have a little faith in them and try. If it doesn't work then run away or try something else. But it doesn't make much sense to go straight to the arms of someone who tortured you and then feel protective, straight away, of everyone surrounding that person.
Maybe it gets better in the next books

Dnf on page 48! I just wasn’t into this book. The main character was annoying like oh yeah I’m the best I’m gonna sleep with everyone and stuff and the love interest was so confusing! Was he suppose to be strong or weak with his mind??? 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
I finished it, but most likely won't read the rest. The author has potential, but this story ain't it. I understand a lot of people like this book, but I have to get this off my chest.
This book went entirely too fast for how quickly the fmc and mmc were obsessed with each other, especially with only 300 pages. Other reviews use the term "insta-love" or "love bombing" and that's exactly what it feels like.
She's assigned protection duty over him. Shes a captain in the military, he's a prince. First time they met, MMC acts like a man in love, borderline drooling over her and conveniently broadcasting how stunning FMC is with his thoughts to everyone in the room, including her parents (mind magic, and homeboy apparently has no control). They had known eachother a few days and are only one day into the mission, but theyre already stealing kisses in a tent THAT THEY SHARE and she's clinging to him after a nightmare, when all they'd had before was some light flirting. A week and he's already like "I know I can't live without you" and getting super possessive and jealous when a werewolf saves her life from a mermaid attack. And then, a day later, he kills an entire coven of dark witches (which disturbs the FMC since they hadn't attacked first). But when he says "Oh, I did it for you because I read their mind and saw their nefarious plot to hand you over to your father," all is forgiven and she's head-over-heels. By the end of the book, they haven't even known eachother a month, they're practically engaged, and he's killing people for her again, children included, because he THOUGHT she was danger (surprise, she really wasn't). And those are only some of the red flags...
The events in this book happen way too fast and with no build-up. It's just like "BOOM...big event. BOOM...another big event", all without any in depth character development or world-building.
MMC has a super-powerful elemental magic that he never uses because it accidentally killed his mom when he lost control as a child, but after one training session with his true love, he's almost a pro?
FMC's bestie, who supposedly has no boundaries and they talk about everything, failed to mention that the Fae she went on a taboo date with said she was a changeling and that she'd turn into a fae on her 21st birthday because she says "i DiDnT bElIeVe HiM"? So now she's a fae OUT OF NOWHERE?
FMC wakes up in the first chapter from a black-out drunk one night stand with one of her subordinates. When she's assigned to the mission with the prince, mom has to explicitly tell her she can't sleep with him. But then they go on to say she's not easy. That's not what your character descriptions are saying, make up your mind.
The relationships are underdeveloped, the events are haphazardly thrown into the storyline, the pacing is too quick, and the characters have little-to-no depth.
Bonus points taken off because she used the term "quivering member".

Non-spoiler review - OH MY GOODNESS! This book was amazing! I devoured it in one day.
“Made in her image,” the man chants. “Made from magic. Made to conquer. Made to rule.”
Marianna does a great job setting this story up. We get a bit of world-building (supernaturals in a contemporary setting so not a TON needed), great pacing, and overall good character developments. The story is a “reverse bodyguard” troupe as Kathryn, a Captain in the Dragons (an elite group of soldiers in the royal army) is tasked with keeping Prince Archer safe on a secret mission. Things do not go as planned and this book is definitely action-packed.
One thing that made me really like this book is Katie’s friendship with Edina (I love seeing friendships and secondary character development). I am not sold on Archer and we don’t know a lot about him really. The real MVP though is the storyline and development with Katie. “You mourn innocent lives,” she answers my unasked question. “If we had attacked, you wouldn’t be feeling so guilty. You’re upset by the senseless violence.” She drops her voice to barely a whisper. “It’s an admirable quality. It makes you a good leader.” Katie, our FMC, is a badass character. She is extremely powerful, smart, gorgeous, witty, and can kick ass.
It is a bit “insta love” but not TOO much. The spice in this is a 3.5, nothing wrong with it but nothing “one handed” worthy in my opinion. There is more towards the end of the book and I think it will get better in book 2.
This book ends on one heck of a cliffhanger and I couldn’t wait to dive into my ARC of book 2.
Spoiler review below. 📚📚📚 📚📚 📚 📚📚 📚📚📚 📚📚 📚 I don’t love Archer. Really at all. Who is this mystery werewolf? I want more of him. Archer started off kinda sweet, then with his anger at her getting help from the were when she could have died just made me lose respect for him, THEN he loses it, and how he acts seals the deal for me. I maybe softened a bit when he said it was her (I am always a sucker for a villain who will burn the world for his woman) but only a little because he still acts like an ass about it all. There is just something about him throughout the whole book - anger issue and controlling - but then ESPECIALLY after that ending that makes me hope he isn’t the main love interest!
I listened to this book on audio, and I would recommend READING this book instead as I think I would have had a better experience that way. The narrator felt very monotonous to me, and didn’t bring life to the story.
This book was touted as “for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses,” but I think it should be marketed more as “for fans of Harry Potter and Melanie Cellier’s The Spoken Mage series.”
Katie is a powerful elemental witch. The youngest to make Captain in the Dragons (military), she’s tasked with guarding Prince Archer as he goes to complete his quest of valor - subduing a dark witch coven. They find more than they bargain for, as the dark witches are organized and following directions from none other than Katie’s father.
What I liked: Katie and her strong powers Katie’s best friend, who could have been in the book more. She told it like it is. I actually would have liked more of her story- the glimpses we got were super intriguing.
What I disliked: Katie. While she was strong and powerful, she was also quick to give up that part of herself for a man. The romance. It felt like young and immature girl gets caught up in a whirlwind relationship. She’s 20 (ish) so I guess that can happen. But there were SO MANY RED FLAGS and Katie was like “I’ll ignore them.” Girl, he LITERALLY BURNED PEOPLE ALIVE “for you” and you were so distraught over it that you ended up in his bed in the next paragraph. The predictability. There’s a prophecy and of course Katie is the one who will fulfill it. So much along the way was super obvious. The mission of valor. It was supposed to be this big thing and was over quickly and not mentioned again.
While there were moments when the writing felt very choppy, I don’t know if that was actually the writer or the narrator. What I do know is that as annoyed as I was by the end of this book, I do want to know what happens next. Which means I’ll be getting an e-book of book two, NOT an audiobook.
Let me start by saying I enjoy this book. It was fun; the MFC was feisty and sassy as hell, and I am living for it. Also is anyone else picking up some Harry Potter vibes? I mean they are subtle but there. A prophecy that will change the magical world. 4 kingdoms, one of them being the dark magic. A magical prison in the middle of the ocean. A bad guy that gives our heroin some of his magic.
Anyway, I digress, despite the above I really loved the story, the subtle spice and declarations of love. “I’ll do anything to keep you safe. I will burn the world down for you.” Prince Archer, that’s a pretty dam strong declaration of I love you.
Katie is a wonderful main character, she is strong and smart and works her ass off. She loves her family fiercely even if she and her mother argue often. It was a breath of fresh air to have such a strong female character, in a fantasy, magical world with the smarts and power to back it up. Her character also had so much depth, it wasn’t just this ambitious girl but also one learning to fall in love for the first time. “ I can’t shake the feeling that this relationship is so much more significant than anything I’ve felt before. It’s…terrifying and wonderful, and I’m conflicted between guarding my heart and jumping in head first and enjoying the free fall.”
Although I loved this book so much, the only reason not I am not giving it 5 stars was because some of the storylines were a little predictable and I could guess what happened next.
I received this book as an arc in exchange for an honest review. This was my first ever arc, as well as first book review. I want to start off by saying, this book was amazing, and I loved every moment of it. It was fast paced, easy to understand, with a magic system that was explained in an interesting way all throughout the book. I'd started the first couple chapters, then became busy with university. I picked it back up after midterms and i finished it the same day. I could not put it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy, drama, romantic tension and spice along the way. Even though this book is fantasy, the characters felt realistic the majority of the time. This story follows a badass FMC named Katie (Kathryn), a resourceful woman who is powerful and intelligent. As well as a sassy prince who has bad boy vibes, while still managing to be shy. And of course the know it all best friend, with slight boundary issues, but knowing ultimately they would go to the ends of the earth for each other. This book touched upon so many subjects, and many real things. An example is right from the start, there was tons of female empowerment, which continued the whole way through. It is a page turner of a book. The writing is immaculate, and is riddled with drama and plot twists that will make you keep reading. I personally loved this book, and i highly recommend it!
