It's not particularly bad or anything, but I've renewed it twice from the library and just can't seem to get into it for whatever reason.
The heroine gets kidnapped in order for the hero to use her to stop some sort of English takeover - no idea if the historical stuff is accurate and, quite honestly, I don't care.
There's nothing awful about either character or the plot so far, just a dude trying to save his country without being too skeevy.
Like I said, this just seems to be a case of something that's not grabbing me and not a case of bad writing or awful storyline.

I requested this from Netgalley back when it released in 2014 and never got around to it, so I decided to grab the audio from my library so that I could finally read and review it.

From the beginning, it's a pretty standard highlander romance where the Scottish love interested kidnaps the naive female because she's important to the highlander's enemy. Edmund is trying to save Scotland from English rule, so he kidnaps Amelia as a way to stop her father and betrothed from signing the treaty that would put Scotland under English rule. I'm not sure if it was just the voice the narrator used, but I felt like Amelia was very naive and such a damsel in distress, which I'm not really a fan of. She always needed Edmund to save her and he was going to "ruin" her because they liked each other so much. I also thought it was random that she was "bad luck" and all of these weird accidents would happen around her and that's why it's been hard to find her a husband. Of course, our hero was the magic answer to making these accidents go away. I didn't really find that aspect of her character all that necessary.

The plot itself was fine, but I do think it was dragged on a bit too much by the end. Also, I did NOT appreciate the death of a specific animal in here. I can definitely do without that in my romance because it just made me sad. Overall, the romance and the plot were just mediocre.

Not recommended for dog owners/lovers:

I felt the hero, Edmund, is quite nice/tamed/sweet for a highlander. He's not as alpha as most highlander heroes I've read in the past. I wonder if this is the kind of highlander her Paula Quinn writes, because I read one of her novellas and I thought the hero was also quite nice/tamed/sweet. The heroine, Amelia, is also different from most heroines I've read in highlander HRs. She's not feisty nor strong. She's accident-proned and blames herself for everything bad that happens around her. I like that she has a good relationship with her father, but then this relationship comes with familial duties and inner turmoil for our heroine. She can be TSTL at times.

The middle part of the book shows how the two main characters fall in love. Most of the time, I wish that HR books would focus more on the romance, but for some reason, I felt this story needed to move along and get back to the whole reason why Edmund kidnapped Amelia in the first place, which was to stop a peace treaty of some sort from being signed, thus, uniting Scotland and England. Bonus for me: swim lessons. :)

Also, in this middle part of the book, we get to see a second romance between Edmund's cousin Lucan and Amelia's best friend Sarah (who is a servant) and we see a blossoming romance between Edmund's other cousin Darrach and Janet (a member of a rival clan). Darach and Janet do have their own book. They're in their late teens in this book, so it makes sense to wait a few more years for them to reunite, fall in love, and marry. I believe Lucan and Sarah get their happily ever after in this book. The third cousin, Malcolm, has his own book, which I may read.

The last 1/4 of the book was action, conversation, running away, conversation, action, conversation, running away, action,...so many things occurred in this last part of the book that I was impatient for the book to end already. Why couldn't these action scenes be more spread out through the book?

So this book was just okay.

Edmund MacGregor is a fierce Scot intent to preserve the independence of his adopted clan, by which he means to prevent the Act of Union between England and Scotland, advocated by the Duke of Queensberry.

Miss Amelia Bell, niece of the Duke of Queensberry, is going to marry the Chancellor of Scotland to help her father gain needed prestige, a duty she plans to carry out against her own wishes. Amelia is at times flirtatious, at times innocent, and with Edmund (who had faked a title for himself and came to her engagement ball) she becomes a laughing, giddy girl, thinking him a personification of a Roman god.

Little did Amelia know that she would be kidnapped by the very man with whom she scandalously danced at her engagement ball, for Edmund and his cousins planned to use her to force the hands of Queensberry and the Chancellor in order to stop the signing of the union treaty. And along the way, what complications would arise than an unexpected and unwelcomed need for each other, a blossoming, lighthearted love, and Edmund’s desire to keep Amelia forever?

From their first meeting, Amelia and Edmund were taken with each other’s physical attributes. Yet, as they come to know each other, their blazing physical attraction was only fuel for their understanding of the other’s personality and position. Edmund, despite kidnapping Amelia, dearly wished her to like him, and understand the essential free ruggedness that marked him as a Scot, without wanting to submit to English rule. He embodies honor and royalty with his clan, and willing to abandon his mission for the love of a certain beautiful lass.

Amelia, on the other hand, was a more complex character. Despite her outwardly demure and accepting demeanor, she is inwardly daring, much to the surprise of herself. She tried to hate Edmund for his kidnapping her, yet could not forget his kisses or the gentleness he showed. In the end, though, her growth as a character was not fully complete, even as she tried to nobly sacrifice herself (by means of denying her love for Edmund) to save him. I had hoped that the ultimate act of her growth would be her defiance of her uncle, of abandoning her duty and timid self for love as Edmund had done. Without that, the ending felt slightly rushed, as Edmund had, a few scant pages ago, been a hairbreadth away from possible death, and suddenly, it’s congratulations for the couple and bid farewell for Amelia and her family.

This is my first Paula Quinn book, and I enjoyed her use of historical background – Duke of Queensberry, Lord Chancellor, and Earl of Seafield were real figures who commissioned the treaty – and skillful depiction of the intense political climate of the time. In the end, as we know, the Act of Union of 1707 did occur which united Scotland and England, and it was a good thing that Edmund eventually prized love above his clansmen’s political goals, for it saved his life and captured his heart.

5 HIGHLANDER-SIZED STARS!!!!

It’s been a while since I've had a chance to enjoy the delightful Paula Quinn. She was one of the authors who made me fall in love with Highlanders. So when I saw this book and The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd on audiobook, I pounced on both like a duck on a June bug. As always, PQ does not disappointment. I’m a HUGE Callum MacGregor fan and loved his story the best out of all of the MacGregor/Grant stories... With that said, this stories romance was very similar in some aspects to Laird of the Mist.

Edmund MacGregor was not born a MacGregor or in Scotland but his love for his clan and country is as strong as any native. Edmund is loyal, determined, a warrior and a fine leader. Edmund and his band of delicious rogues, Malcolm, Darach, and Lucan are on a mission. A mission that will prevent England and Scotland from uniting. In order to do this, they need to force the hand of the powerful Duke of Queensberry and Lord Chancellor Seafield. Killing both men will not stop the act from being signed so Edmund decides to abduct someone who is close to both men. Insert Miss Amelia Bell—who just happens to be the niece of Queensberry and betrothed to The Lord Chancellor. How can this be accomplished? Why by pulling out the Wig-work!

Miss Amelia Bell is a beautiful, delightful and an accident prone young lady. Her mother is a harpy who has nothing but criticisms about her. Her father dotes on her, flaws be damned. Amelia feels guilty because her ‘accidents’ have brought shame to her father whom she loves more than anyone. Although she does not love The Lord Chancellor, she is determined to marry him to make up for the “shame” that she has caused her father. Sarah, Amelia’s best friend and a servant is Amelia’s only other bright light in her life—despite that Mama Harpy has forbidden their friendship. Where’s there is a will, there is a way and thankfully so as Amelia’s disobedience is what leads her into the arms of one Edmund MacGregor.

The story is great and the plot develops nicely! I laughed and smiled a lot. Edmund and Amelia sizzle! There’s lots of action, witty dialogue and love throughout the book. The sex scenes were steamy too. PQ has a host of lovable and likable secondary characters. You’ll be in love with the highlanders within the first chapter. Sarah was a really nice addition as well. She’s tough, funny, outspoken and very supportive of Amelia. Oh and there may or may not be a secondary romance between a certain highlander and servant. Also, there was a Captain Pierce who works for Queensberry, an Englishmen but I LIKED him a lot. I wonder if PQ will unite him with one of our wee lassies from Skye. There’s a nice setup for Darach’s story towards the end of the book. The dogs in this story were amazing as well.

One of the things about this book is its set in the early 18th century but it has a medieval feel that I loved. If you’re a fan of historical romance, Scotland, Highlanders and a great plot then this story is for you. Even if you don’t like those things, I highly recommend this book to any romance or historical romance lover. You will thoroughly enjoy. I also highly recommend reading the books that lead to this series: Laird of the Mist, A Highlander Never Surrenders and the entire Children of the Mist series prior to reading this book. You’ll appreciate and understand the characters in this book even more… Want more Paula Quinn but English style? Then I HIGHLY recommend her Risande series set in Medieval England. Regardless to what route you take, you will be verra, verra pleased. 5/5 stars for this GEM!

Narration: Carrington McDuffie is the narrator. I've listened to her and enjoyed her a lot in the previous books. I went in with high hopes that were initially dashed. I thought “is this the same narrator as before?” It took me a few chapters to get used to her again. Despite the slow start she did a good job with the narration! One complaint is her voices are not as distinguishable IMO. She does the Scottish accents great but most of the men/women sound the same. Even still, I enjoyed it. 4/5 stars for her.

Brilliantly Written! Epic!

Awesomeness is not a good enough word to describe this brilliantly written story – No I think Epic would sum it up nicely. This captivating story is filled with a humorous seductive romance that kept me glued to the pages and wanting to live in their world forever. The author’s descriptive details of the Highlander’s country side and their clan’s leaves the reader with a breathtaking vision that will forever be melded into your heart. The character’s chemistry and humorous banter will forever have you longing for more of their story.

Edmund MacGregor is a man of his word and beliefs. God-like example of David & Goliath, the metaphor is clearly a Highlander conquering and ending the Giants of Aristocratic Nobility’s political gains. His presence bleeds sexuality with his stance and handsome features, but his voice and actions will melt your heart first with a wanting desire.

Dedicated to his cause for love of country and keeping the English from signing a treaty that will unite Scotland under their rule, he can only come up with one solution and puts the plan in motion to keep the treaty from happening and that is to capture the niece of the Duke of Queensberry. However, what he doesn’t anticipate is falling head over heels in love with his charming captive Miss Amelia Bell. No his adventure turns into not only a win for Scotland but a fight for an unconditional sacrifice for love than to ever live without her.

Amelia has got to be my favorite character of all time. I absolutely loved her. I never laughed so hard – I literally had tears coming out of my eyes with her accident prone actions. She reminded me of “KANE - the demon of Disaster” from the series Lords of the Underworld where every time she touched something or went somewhere disaster followed her in a humorous way.

Amelia truly captured my heart with her tender innocent demeanor. She is one of those females that is not only beautiful on the outside but on the inside as well. Her loyalty and dedication to her family is unconditional but her love for true passion puts a few adventurous curves in her road to happiness especially when she meets her dreamy godlike “David of Goliath” Edmund.

Tormented between having a life with a man of her dreams and with honoring her father’s wishes of an arranged marriage to Seafield - the Lord Chancellor of Scotland, a man she doesn’t love. Amelia’s heart breaks knowing the sacrifice she must make in order to not ruin her father’s status among the English aristocrats.

The story is full of adventure and lots of Highlander action making it a fast read. The sweet and tender erotic romance had the perfect amount of teasing and playful love making scenes (3 Flames). The happy ever after had me smiling and hugging the book with giddiness.

I have to say that this is my first book by Paula Quinn and I am awed in amazement of how addictive her writing is. The plot was perfect, the characters were brilliantly created, and the world building is one I could live in forever. Paula Quinn you have gained a new fan and I look forward to reading more of your awesome work. I highly recommend this read to all Historical Romance lovers.

A sweet, hot, and absolutely fantastic historical romance, The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell was a wonderful read. I loved this book! It was lovely from start to finish and I enjoyed every bit of it.

Amelia was a wonderful heroine. She was very loyal to those she cared about and often thought of their needs first (which was both admirably selfless and frustrating, when she got into her head that she needed to sacrifice herself for their happiness). She was stronger than she first seemed, particularly when she decided it was time to fight for what she wanted. I really liked her. I thought she was a lovely character.

Edmund was also great. He was so sweet and intensely loyal to what he believed in, but even more so to those he loved. He had his own code of honor and was noble enough to follow it no matter what. He was perfect and I absolutely adored him.

The romance was lovely. Amelia and Edmund were so sweet together. I loved how they instantly had a connection and simply understood each other. And, the chemistry between them was sizzling from the moment they met. There was definitely some spice to go along with the sweet. I thought they were a wonderful couple.

The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. There were a few twists that kept me riveted. I loved all the secondary characters and I'm excited to read their stories in the upcoming books. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was perfect.

The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell was a fantastic historical romance. I absolutely loved this book and I enjoyed it from start to finish. Romance lovers, this is a book you won't want to miss.

Why have I never read a Paula Quinn before? That's what I was asking myself as I was reading this. I mean, I've read nearly every other Scottish Romance writer, so how has this one passed me by? Well, I have no idea, but she's on my radar now, and if this is any indication of the standard to expect, I have some fun times ahead making my way through her back catalogue!

Edmund MacGregor is the leader of a group of lethal Highland men. His mission is to prevent the signing of a treaty which will seal Scotland's fate. During the course of his mission he meets Lady Amelia, who aside from being the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, just happens to be the daughter of someone very important politically, and would therefore make an excellent bargaining chip were she to be, say...kidnapped and held for ransom!

Now, you'd think you'd be cross at Edmund's character for his kidnapping ways, but he and the rest of the guys were so blinking honourable, and treated her so well, you probably won't be able to maintain a scowl any longer than I did. I fell instantly in love with him, and loved it when the narrative would switch to his POV, because he was almost poetic in his flattering descriptions of heroine Amelia. It was just so cute! And who doesn't love a hero that knows his own heart? No one, that's who.

Amelia was a little firecracker as well. Her tendency to say exactly what she's thinking without first running it through a filter is a character flaw that has found her in hot water more times than she can count, but as a reader, her utterings are endlessly entertaining. She may have made an error in judgement here and there throughout the story, but overall I really enjoyed her.

The plot wasn't the fastest paced I've ever read, but the ending was certainly exciting. I also enjoyed the subplot with Amelia's maid and one of the other men. That was an added bonus for sure!

I'll definitely be coming back for more from this author, and recommend readers already familiar with her work, and particularly the characters from her previous series (who are the parents of this lot) check this one out, too!

I have enjoyed ms quinn's previous books about this family, but this one just misses the mark completely. For those of you hoping to find something like Monica McCarty's books: check out the McGregor books (2) and Children of the Mist-series. But you won't find it in this first part of this new series.

The main story is about Edmund and Amelia, but the development of their love story feels from te beginning rushed with a lot of time spend on possible love interests of the other characters: his three cousins. So if you, like me, like well developped main characters and a slowly growing tension between them, you may not like this one as much.

I'm halfway through at the moment and wondering how the same author that wrote laird of the mist got herself tangled in this web. Each of the plotlines involving the four cousins would have been so much better as seperate books and left alone in this one. Now the time spend on explaining each of their youths and relations to their families in england and Scotland is first distracting from the main story and second confusing to keep them all apart and remember which cousin is a child from which couple of the children of the mist-series.

Also I cannot seem to get myself invested into the main duo. Edmund is just too nice, and Amelia doesn't seem to have any other character than getting herself or others into stupid, silly and idiotic situations which she could - in my opinion - have easily prevented if she would just pay a little attention to her surroundings.

And then there are situations that are suposed to add tension but are just stupid and don't fit in with the characters. For example [spoiler alert] The duo is walking in a garden and she almost gets abducted a second time. But does our hero and superwarrior check out the would be abductor, see if he has friends, call out to his cousins or alert someone on guard (which there doesn't seem to be, another strange thing). No. He just takes her inside and doesn't even mention it to the others. Not something a highly trained man by one of the countries best warriors and spies priding himself on his skills is likely to do. Not even when he is suposedly in love. His instincts should be put to use to detect possible dangerous situations and save her.

Hopefully the next book in this series will have more focus. I remember the first book of Monica McCarty's superb Highland Guard series did miss the mark a bit, but she recovered brilliantly. So I'm hoping. I'm especially looking forward to the story of Malcolm. He is just so deliciously bad and avers to love; what fun to see him under one womans thumb.

I have really mixed feelings about this book. I loved that the story was more than just a man and woman falling in love - it dealt with true issues and conflicts and questions about where and how you can be loyal. However, it could have been A LOT shorter. There's a time for flowery words and then there's a time when you should move the story along. Overall I liked the story and the characters but felt like there was so much time spent on every little thing that I decided it should be a three-star review not a four.

This book shouldn't be called The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell. This Should be called 'A guide of how to treat and love a woman by the McGregor men.'
This book made me wish the entire planet was Scotland because we -women- deserve and need highlanders like the McGregors.
Edmund kidnapped Amelia for ransom to keep Scotland safe from the British, but what he did not plan was to fall in love with her.
I really love this book, the writing was great. The Characters were all likable. Grendel (the dog) was my favorite.
If historical romance if your genre than this book is for you!

I don't read a lot of historical fiction but when I do I want to be swept away to a time when men were men and women were cherished. I dont want it to be sloppy or anything but a highland romance with a rugged hero who can sweep a lady off her feet sometimes just appeals to me. Ive seen this authors work recommended and thought it's time to Investigate further and as this book works well as a standalone seemed a good place to start.
Edmund is a man on a mission and nothing and no one will stand in his way. Its a simple idea really kidnap the woman who is betrothed to the Chancellor and prevent the treaty binding Scotland to England being signed. On paper it works but in reality and in the attractive and somewhat clumsy flesh of Amelia maybe not quite as straightforward as Edmund had hoped! Oh yes he manages to steal her away but in the process he losses his heart. These two people both know that duty comes first and sometimes sacrifices have to be made.
I cannot fault the immense detail that this author incorporates into her work. At times the dialogue was so rich that I truly felt as if I was living in a time long past and I loved that. It's a rare gift to be able to bring history to life and this author clearly has refined her craft and this story benefits greatly from it. Full of history and adventure this gentle and sweet romance is populated with characters to raise a smile. Brave sexy hero with a warm sensitive side, wayward but loyal heroine and supporting characters that helped flesh out the storyline. If you are an animal lover then be prepared to smile and I'm sure there's much more to come from Edmunds friends.
This should tick all my boxes but unfortunately I just felt that the romance lacked a little something . I liked the central couple but I didn't love them as much as I'd hoped. For me Amelia was just too nice and I really wanted a bit more fire and passion but the supporting characters of Sarah, Malcolm and Lucan seem set to deliver that hopefully when their stories are told. Did I enjoy this story? Yes and apparently Edmunds fathers story appeared in Conquered By A Highlander so well worth hunting that book down. I greatly enjoyed reading this my first book from Ms Quinn and recommend this book to lovers of historical romance.

There is nothing like a wonderful highland romance that takes you to distant lands, I love immersing myself in the people, their conflicts and the romance between the hero and heroine. This is the start of a new series (the heirs from previous books) by an author who pens amazing highland romances.

Edmund MacGregor and his cousins are determined to stop the signing of the Treaty of Union that will change the face of Scotland forever. They have tried several methods and have not succeeded so they have decided to take something of value from the Duke of Queensberry, his niece, who is about to marry the Chancellor of Scotland. Edmund and his three cousins, Lucan, Darach and Malcolm work their way into Queensberry’s home to get close to Lady Amelia, yet when he meets her he is conflicted, there is an immediate attraction between the two but he knows where his loyalties lie.

Lady Amelia Bell is about to marry, not because she is in love, but because she feels she has to for her parents. She too, knows where her loyalties lie and it is not with the man who she just met in the gardens. When she finds herself kidnapped she is obviously angry, yet secretly she is excited that she gets to spend time with Edmund but their adventure is just beginning as they travel to his lands to wait for word from her family. There are past enemies that the cousins must face, alignments that must be formed to protect Scotland and dangers that they will encounter.

I absolutely adore Amelia, she is a strong woman who plans to do her duty for her family and marry someone she does not love, but secretly she wishes she could be more like her best friend Sarah, a servant who will make her own choices in love.

THE SEDUCTION OF MISS AMELIA BELL by Paula Quinn is an exciting Scottish Historical Romance set in Eighteen century Scotland. First in "The MacGregors: Highland Heirs" new series and what a beginning!

"A Highland rogue and an Adventurous Lady"

This is the tale of Edmund MacGregor, a Highlander, who wishes to keep the sovereignty of his nation(Scotland) and Lady Amelia Bell, who is the niece of the 2nd Duke of Queensberry, and MacGregor clan nemesis, and who is betrothed to Lord Chancellor of Scotland, Earl of Seafield, whom she doesn't want to marry. What a tale!

Fast paced and passion filled! What an adventure!

Filled with passion, romance, danger, a kidnapping for ransom, the quest to save Scotland from English rule, revenge, danger, a kidnapping for ransom that turns into so much more. Oh, did I forgot to mention love and passion! The secondary characters are entertaining and engaging as well. I loved Sarah, Amelia's best friend and ladies maid and Edmund's cousin, Luke. They make a wonderful couple. Then you have Malcolm, another cousin, can't wait to see who will capture his heart, but I think I might know who that will be,hopefully. Than there is Darach, the youngest MacGregor, oh he is adorable.

The neighboring clan, the Buchanan's. Oh and you have Lady Amelia's papa, who loves her dearly, and will do what he has to, in order to save his beloved daughter. And her mother, who I disliked immensely. What a not so lady, she was or is! I would have like to see her get her upcomings.

I absolutely loved this tale of intrigue and romance. A must read! I can hardly wait for the next installment. Ms. Quinn is a true storyteller. I would highly recommend "THE SEDUCTION OF MISS AMELIA BELL" to anyone who enjoys Scottish Warriors, Highlanders, a struggle with emotions, drama, and feisty Lasses. Received for an honest review.

Review: 5 stars
General: This book was almost skipped by me and I’m so glad I didn’t. The only negative thing I can even contemplate saying about the book is the title completely didn’t work for me. It sounded like a cheesy plot romance novel and what you get is anything but! From the start the characters are compelling, the plot is fast paced and the writing is flawless. I loved the world building because you could tell how much time and research was put into bringing the past to life and my favorite past is always the highlands. I connected with each and very character as well the high stakes and sexy plot. Each page brought me closer to the end and I always hate that part but this book had a beautiful plot structure that flowed at the right pace and when the book did end I felt like it was ok because the story was told and I was happy that it wasn’t a cliffhanger end as those have become increasingly more popular and I love a good old fashioned stand alone romance and this book hit all the marks!

Characters: Amelia- Amelia was a strong heroine in disguise. She was loyal and caring but you don’t see her strength come out until half way through and then she’s unstoppable. I loved her chemistry with Edmund and seeing her “learn” was wonderfully entertaining.

Edmund- Edmund was he sexy highlander male we read this books for. He was an alpha male with passion and loyalty to boot. He was steamy and loyal and a wonderful hero. The connection with Amelia was both sweet and sizzling at the right moments. His intelligence may by my favorite part, he was a warrior but smart enough to look beyond the battlefield.

Edmund MacGregor and his cousins are determined to stop the signing of the Treaty of Union that will change Scotland forever. After many failed attempts to stop the signing they decide to take drastic action. They’ve decided to take something from the Duke of Queensberry, his niece, Amelia Bell, who is about to marry Walter, Chancellor of Scotland. Edmund and his three cousins, Lucan, Darach and Malcolm find their way into Queensberry’s home to get close to Lady Amelia. Oh and what a meeting it is – under the statue of David, in a star-lit garden, and without chaperones. There is an immediate attraction between the two but his loyalty is to Scotland and he will protect her at all costs.

Lady Amelia Bell is about to marry, not because she is in love, but out of obligation to her mother and, more so, her father because he has always championed her and she feels she owes him that much. She also has loyalties and it is not with the man who she just met in the gardens. When she finds herself kidnapped she is angry, hurt, and betrayed. But yet again she is secretly excited that she gets to spend time with Edmund and get to know him better as their adventure is just beginning. There are enemies that the cousins have to deal with and face, alliances that must be formed to protect Scotland and dangers that they will encounter.

I love the fact that we get to, also, follow the three cousins and Sarah, Amelia’s servant and friend as they all embark on this great battle for Scotland. I hope in the coming books we get to see more of all of them as well as Gaza, the tried and true canine companion.

3.5 stars.

The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell meets all the elements of a good Highland story:

1. It features hot Scots, a family of them. They are strong, virile, masculine, and patriotic. They fight for their independence from English rule and they fight for their families. The men are bigger than life who can take a punch as well as throw one.

2. It is historical. I love how the story is embroiled in political intrigue. Edmund MacGregor is trying to stop Scotland’s union with England by preventing the signing of the Union with England Act. Scotland’s political leadership is at odds with the Highland clans.

3. It presents an unusual heroine. Amelia is a fish out of water – not only because she is English and kidnapped to the Highlands, but also because bad luck seems to follow her. If it didn’t distress her so, it would almost be funny. But she is spirited and gives as good as she gets.

4. There is fantastic teamwork between the characters with nicely developed camaraderie. Each character is distinct and will undoubtedly be featured in
future books.

5. And, I enjoyed this book for the oddest reason - I liked the reading the Scottish brogue in the dialogue.

My downside is that there is nothing in the story that breaks the mold. If you are looking for a good Highlander trope, this will work for you.

IN A NUTSHELL:
Both fun and dramatic, The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell delivers on the promise of a good Highlander book, but will not push into new territory.

Give me a book that involves romnce and Scottish Highlanders, and I’m a happy woman! “The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell” by Paula Quinn definitely hits the mark with this great historical romance. The characters are great, and both Amelia and Edmund are people who you can relate to and root for. I love Amelia’s passionate nature and her rebellious side. You can’t help but like her. Edmund is the typical rogue at first, until he falls hard for Amelia. The writing style is great, and there is the perfect mixture of romance and action going on. I hate romance novels that are like one giant orgy, this one has some steamy sex scenes, but evens it out with an actual story line that is easy to follow. The sexual tension between Amelia and Edmund is thick, and as a reader you’re on the edge of your seat waiting for and wanting something to happen between them. The wait is worth it though, because when they do finally hook up, it is a steamy scene. I like that the writer also followed Amelia’s servant Sarah’s life in this novel. It wasn’t all about Amelia and Edmund, it also brought other characters stories into this novel.

I would definitely recommend this novel to all lovers of historical romance novels. Paula Quinn definitely has a knack when it comes to writing well-balanced romance novels. If you get a little hot thinking about Scottish Highlanders in their sexy kilts, than this novel is definitely for you!

I give “The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell” a FIVE out of FIVE stars!

Another great romance from Paula Quinn and a great start to the new series, The MacGregors: Highland Heirs.

Highland and highlanders are one of my great weaknesses, and I’m ready for MacGregors. Bring them on Paula!

We start with Edmund MacGregor, a man of principle and strong beliefs in the cause for his beloved Scotland. He will risk his own life before he gives up on them, and to keep his country out of English hands, he comes up with a plan to thwart the men who would be signing a treaty that would see Scotland come under English rule.

Amelia is the niece of the Duke of Queensberry, and the one that our hero plans to abduct for ransom, but what he doesn’t count on is ....thanks for jumping over to b2b to finish reading my review ...

I have loved all of Paula Quinn's books and this new one is just as wonderfully done and will not disappoint. Her characters are always so well written, you feel like they are real. They make you laugh and cry right along with them. I also came to love two very loyal dogs in this story and a teasing bit which I'm hoping is her next book. My ancestors were MacGregors and after I spotted a couple of her MacGregor Clan books in the bookstore several years ago I just had to take them home with me. I was hooked. I am looking forward to all of Paula's future books. She has a forever fan in me.

One Edmund is everything! Two I rolled off my couch reading it last night because it was so intense. Three I sat on the floor at work tonight after I finally finished it. Edmund was so smart and perfect. He gave me a case of the heart eyes through this whole book.

Bentornate Fenici!

Mal approva.

Alla prossima

Un saluto dalla vostra Mal

I have enjoyed previous books by Quinn. Thankfully, or else I might be hesitant to pick up another. lol. I really dislike giving books 1 star, but I disliked this more and more as it went along. And there wasn't really any aspect of it that I enjoyed. The characters were all daft. Triply so for the heroine, she was TSTL (too stupid to live) . An absolute disaster. The plot was weak, shallow, unlikely, it dragged. Parts of it were like watching a slow moving car crash. The dialogue was stilted. Also a giant portion of the book was just the characters whining on and on about the tragedy of their circumstances keeping them from having a future together. It was just... awful.

I have been anticipating Edmund’s book since he first appeared in the pages of Colin’s story…having the monsters chased from his room and the fishing trips with his soon to be father. Even though Edmund isn’t related to the MacGregor’s by blood, he is the son of Colin’s wife Gillian, an Englishwoman. He was readily adopted into the clan at age four along with his mother upon her marriage to Colin. I knew his story would be one that I would devour! Edmund has grown to be a man of honor and courage, just as his adopted father. He and three of his cousins are determined to stop the progress of the Union with England, which would join England and Scotland. This would change many things politically, economically and religiously. This band of brothers were fighting hard and covertly…covertly because William of Orange had managed to have their Clan proscribed yet again, so the MagGregor’s and all who associated with them were considered outlaws.

Amelia was to be married. She wasn’t sure she wanted this, but her father assured her that by marrying Walter, the Chancellor of Scotland, she was doing the right thing for the family. Amelia adored her father and would do anything for him, including marrying a man she didn’t love…or even like. In fact, the only people who liked the Chancellor, was her mother and her uncle the duke. Accident prone to the extreme, Amelia was made to feel that she was less than nothing by everyone in her family, save her father. Her mother was especially cruel to her about her clumsiness. The only time Amelia felt at ease was when she snuck away from her room at night to her best friend Sarah’s room. Sarah happened to be a servant and although Amelia didn’t care, her mother did. Amelia dreamed of being away with a brave and true man, like the beautiful statue of David in her mother’s garden…someone who could slay all of her giants and protect her. But that could never happen…could it?

Edmund and his cousins, Lucan, Darach and Malcom, decided that the easiest and quickest way to stop the last of the signatures on the treaty, was to kidnap the niece of one of the men who, luckily, also happened to be the fiancé of one of the signers, thereby getting two birds with one blow! They donned disguises and invited themselves to Miss Amelia Bell’s engagement party. The kidnapping was successful, and the party arrived at Ravenglade, Malcom’s holding. They arrived with the addition of one Sarah Frazier, servant, much to Amelia’s delight! Though Malcom brought her, Lucan was the one who wanted to claim her. Little did Edmund know that Miss Amelia Bell would affect him the way she did. What started off as a kidnapping for a great cause, soon turned into two people discovering that there may be more to life than a cause, a country, or what others may have planned for them. More challenges arose when the group arrived. They were met by the Buchannan clan who had decided that they had a stronger claim on Ravenglade than Malcom did, causing a multitude of problems.

Here is something I absolutely loved about this book. Though it of course focused on Edmund and Amelia, it also included love interests and a happily ever after for other characters. While some “mega authors” have multiple stories in their books, it feels like we are being dragged from one plot to another, always cut off, and never fulfilled. That NEVER happened with Ms. Quinn! This book flowed so smoothly, that when the new romance happened, it was perfect timing and you didn’t feel deprived from the main characters. It was such a breath of fresh air. We also get hints of the future book and love interest for Darach and fall in love with the Rake that is Cal, or Malcom! I adore the men that Paula writes. They are the men that I dreamed of loving as a child; bold, strong, loving and caring…with just a hint of bad! Oh and did I mention really gorgeous?

I thought at first that I didn’t like Amelia very much. I love a strong woman and that’s the type of woman that Ms. Quinn usually writes. Oh, I had the giggles during a few of her misadventures, and felt sorry for her during others. But when she turned wishy-washy I thought, “oh no!” I just don’t like that. Then I thought about her life. Her mother had treated her as if she were worthless. Her only solace growing up was her secret friend and at times her father. I finally understood. What do I love about Paula’s books? Not only do they entertain me with the hottest men I’ve ever dreamed of, but she makes me think! She intricately weaves history in with fiction. She makes it come alive, to the point that I find myself laughing and crying, gasping… holding my breath along with the characters. They become real!

Without question Paula Quinn’s books are on my auto-buy list. In fact I buy not only the written book, but also the ebook! One for my Keeper Shelf and one that I will read over and over again. My advice to you is to quickly preorder at least one for yourself! You won’t be disappointed. The Highland Heirs series is a stand-alone series and it isn’t necessary to read either the MacGregor or Children of the Mist Series prior to reading this book, however, if I were you I would read the whole series when I finished. Why? Because this is a fabulous series, that’s why!

Until Next Time!
