This is the second time I have read this book. Julie Miller has become one of my favorite authors. I have every book in this series. Read them out of order the first time. They are all standalone books but am discovering they are better read in order. All are full of suspense and romance. Great reading.
I loved Maddie’s spicy sass and enjoyed Dwight’s reluctance to be considered a hero. Their romance was good, nothing earth shattering (that’s not a bad thing) but rather a solid bond built through emotional distress and need that developed into something tangible and unexpectedly sweet. The suspense parts presented a nifty puzzle of potential villains and kept the story moving at a fast clip. Overall, Search and Seizure was an easy read.
Dwight Powers is a character that has been in previous books in this series. I wasn't particularly interested to read his story, but it ended up being pretty good. I was less invested in the characters' romance in this one and more invested in the crime they are solving. The concept is that Maddie's niece, Katie, is a pregnant teenager who runs away from home. We find out that she's potentially gotten into trouble with an adoption scam ring that not always, but often, ends up killing the mothers once they've obtained the babies to sell. There are multiple villains in this one and it's interesting to see how they interconnect.
I recommend this one if you enjoy crime novels and are easing into the romance genre. The steamy scenes aren't overly descriptive in this one.
To be honest, this wasn't deep enough and it brushed over a BUNCH of points. But as a Mills and Boon type novel, it was good enough to distract me from my life for a day :)
An engaging read. I was equally drawn in by both characters. I like the promise and hope that come with new beginnings so their relationship is appealing to me.
