Is a single day worth changing the course of your entire life?

Marley Royce has just two goals for her seventy-two-hour stay in London: land a career-making business deal and finally meet the woman of her dreams face to face.

Fate has something else in mind.

The mega conglomerate Marley works for wants to acquire the venerable but struggling Braithwaite Books. The centuries-old shop is owned by Cleo Braithwaite, a woman with a fierce and frightening reputation. Cleo turns out to be nothing like the rumors but refuses to sit still long enough to be dazzled by the meticulous spreadsheets and slides Marley has prepared to seal the deal. Instead of making her proposal, Marley soon finds herself on an impromptu walking tour of London with the charming Cleo.

Even though Marley has a dinner date that night with the woman she’s been chatting with online and was convinced was her soulmate, she can’t ignore the feelings her bewitching guide stirs up inside as they explore the historic city on foot. What’s more, the longer she’s with Cleo, the more Marley begins to question the business deal she’s been sent to make.

Should Marley stick with the plan, or is a single life-changing day with Cleo worth blowing up the future Marley was so certain she wanted?

Another light and an entertaining novella by TB Markinson. Set in the same universe as "The Setup" and "The Date", The Proposal shows once again what can happen when an American woman visits London. They are all individual stories that can be read as standalone.

Marley Royce works for a large publishing company that takes over small bookstores in financial trouble to incorporate them into their business. Her company sends her to London to negotiate the takeover of the Braithwaite bookstore. Being the bookworm that she is, she is a member of a virtual book club under the name of Carol. This is where she met Glory, with whom she has been in contact privately for several months and has developed more than just a book club friendship. As Glory lives in London, Marley doesn’t want to miss the chance to meet her but first, she has to get that bookstore deal done.

Cleo Braithwaite is anything but the fierce and frightening person her reputation suggests. Cleo is a charming and sunny person who doesn’t want to know anything about spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. Numbers are Marley’s world, she feels safe there. As she is negotiating her first big deal, she knows that if she fails, she may be out of her job. When Cleo persuades her to go on a sightseeing tour of London, she knows she is in trouble. How on earth is she supposed to convince Cleo of the deal when strolling through London? Maybe in a pub? Drinking beer? Told from Marley’s point of view, find out for yourself if she can escape Cleo’s spell and if her date with Glory goes as planned?

This is an entertaining romance novella without much drama but with lovable characters. Go on a walk with them and see all the beautiful places London has to offer. I felt like I was following Cleo and Marley on their journey through the city. The story is perhaps a little predictable, but that didn’t bother me because it was funny and charming. The two women are, as always in TB Markinson’s stories, genuine and likable women who more or less have their lives together. Marley is perhaps a bit naive but her enthusiasm while sightseeing around London is infectious. Cleo, on the other hand, is smart, passionate, and refreshing, a woman full of joie de vivre who knows London’s literary history like the back of her hand and is happy to tell it to anyone who will listen. It is a pleasure to accompany them both through London.

I just love all of TB‘s London books that include the obligatory American MC. These two worlds together couldn’t be more different and that’s exactly what makes these stories so great. Most of all the humour in it is totally mine and once more I had a fantastic time reading this book.

The American in this story is Marley. She only travels to London for 3 days and during this time she wants to meet her online friend for a date but also needs to convince a bookshop owner to signing over her bookshop. As prepared as Marley is with her spreadsheets (love it 🤣) and power point presentation things with Cleo don‘t go at all as planned. Instead of looking at her spreadsheets and other things Cleo takes her on a sightseeing trip to London that will change her. Besides all the incredible things Marley visits together with Cleo (and wow I learned a lot during their trip), there is also the tiny problem that she gets more and more attracted to Cleo. But this can’t happen because of her date with Glory in the evening. Poor Marley definitely doesn’t know anymore at some point what hit here. And of course there is the proposal that might be a total different one in the end… 😊

And that’s where I’m going to stop my talk about their journey because I definitely recommend everyone going on this sightseeing trip and everything is else that is following. Personally I had a blast and felt like being there with them. And have I already mentioned all the pub visits? 😆 All surrounded by characters that love books as much as I do. I mean what’s not to love there. 😍 I honestly can’t get enough of the London stories and hope there will be more in the future. 😍

Light and entertaining (short) book. Romance with no angst and a lot of London sightseeing as a background to the story.

Reading The Proposal brought fond memories of the trips which I took in London - though I must admit there’s plenty that I’ve yet to see in London even though I’ve been there a couple of times. Perhaps, next time, I’ll make it a point to visit and actually walk around the areas instead of just seeing the sights on the London bus tour (so touristy 🙂). Then again the company must be knowledgeable and know the history like the back of their hand….otherwise it won’t be as interesting.

Back to The Proposal, which is a really sweet novella and a quick read, all of 149 pages….so says Kindle. The story happened mostly within a day as the two MCs spend the day together with Marley trying to convince Cleo to sign on the dotted line and sign her bookstore away - a bookstore which has been with Cleo’s family for many generations. Marley’s motive for visiting London is not only to close the deal with Cleo but also to meet her ‘soulmate’ whom she has been talking to online for months. No prizes there for guessing that both are the same person 😉 It’s almost an angst-free and a truly entertaining read. I enjoyed it 🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the trip through London. The MCS are very well developed. I love both Cleo and Marley. Two completely different women except for their love of books, writers and their history. The attraction to one another is so strong.
I would love to meet these women, that's how well this is written. I definitely highly reccomend it!

This is an adorable romance. Cleo and Marley are quirky, but completely likable characters. This story basically takes place over the course of a day, but Markinson works her magic and makes the romance believable and relatable. Readers fall in love with these two right from the start and want the HEA they so deserve.

One of the most fun things about this cute story is the fact that it takes place in London. It provides a fantastic backdrop for this whirlwind romance. Readers get to “tour” the city as Cleo and Marley walk their way around London. The sightseeing these two experience together is more than entertaining. Plus, Cleo adds a running commentary of London fun facts and trivia. If you love London, then you will absolutely appreciate the energy Markinson put into the details of this story. They make the story a real treat to read.

Final remarks…

This is quick, fun reading. The plot is a twist on the ever popular You’ve Got Mail, but Markinson makes it her own by inventing a few clever surprises. The result is a romance that just might be even more charming than Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s.

Strengths…

Fun and entertaining
Cute characters
Charming romance

Excellent premise! I had another fantastic one-day tour around London. However, this time with a booklover, "the best tour guide a girl could want".

Everything here is so extremely enticing. The setting of the British capital city has become increasingly romantic. The historical knowledge of two MCs as booklovers is also quite credible. Not to mention the bookstore and bookclub, which served as a prelude to the relationship when "finally plucked up a nerve to send her a private message to cheer her up".

Another aspect of the book that I admire is the cover. It's a fantastic idea to paint it in soft watercolors. I definitely recommend it as a warm-up read for this winter.

A very cute novella. I’m recently having a 12 days holiday and just back to work today; this novella definitely made my post-holiday syndrome desperate, and it made me want to revisit London😂

Marley is thrilled to finally get to London so she can meet her dream woman from her online book club. Cleo is trying to keep the family business going so she agrees to meet with a big bookstore chain executive. Marley is quickly smitten with Cleo and they go on a fabulous tour of London. The twist to the story is a lot of fun and you just have to read this one. You can definitely tell how much
T.B. Markinson enjoyed her time in London when you read this story. Her characters are fun and easy to like.

• The Proposal
• MC Marley Royce & Cleo

Marley Royce is in London for three days she has her eyes set on two things, close a deal that acquires a book store for work and meet a woman she has been chatting with online.
The universe may have a different plan for Marley, as Cleo walks into her life.

Cleo has no interest in signing a deal with Marleys company to buy her bookstore. She also doesn’t have the patience to sit and listen to a presentation. Cleo offers to take Marley sightseeing. Although Marley needs to close this deal and get to her dinner date with her online love interest, she agrees, hoping she can persuade Cleo.

After spending time together Marley feels like her and Cleo had a “cosmic connection “. Cleo makes her realize there is more to life than a job, and quality of life is so important.

Marley does meet her online love for their scheduled dinner date, however, Cleo is in the forefront of Marleys mind.

This was a beautiful story about two woman who found love unknowingly. The writer does an amazing job of describing London. It really does make you feel like you have really spent a day touring London. I love this! This is a very fast read, as it is a novella. It keeps your interest and have a couple of plot twists.

I highly recommend this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Author T.B. Markinson did a wonderful job, as always.

Markinson takes the reader on a journey within a journey. I felt this had a few places that slowed the story down but it’s an enjoyable read. Her MCs are definitely interesting women in an unusual circumstance. Yeah, umm…no spoilers here.

Good dialogue and humour help to round this story out. It just felt bogged down here and there or I would give it more stars. Just sayin’.

A lot can happen in a short amount of time!

Marley has come to London to meet a woman she has struck up a connection with online, and make a business deal that will change her career. Cleo who owns the store Marley’s company are trying to buy ends up surprising her, and they spend a great day together touring the city. Suddenly, Marley is no longer sure she wants what she originally came for.

This was simple, sweet, and a whole lot of fun. It’s fast pace leant well to the short time frame the story was set in, and the unexpected twists and turns kept me hooked. Cleo was charismatic and it was easy to put yourself in Marley’s shoes and know why she got so swept away, forgetting what she’d originally come to do, but it all appeared to be part of a plan that only Cleo was privy to. That just left me even more intrigued, wondering if Marley was ever going to meet up with her dream woman, and when she’d seal this deal. Somewhere in their touring the city it was all so easily forgotten, and I loved how that all ended up fitting in at the end.

Marley was typically enjoying the experience because Cleo made it impossible not to. It was as if she knew everything Marley had been expecting to do, as if she knew something that had allowed her to prepare, and although Marley was clueless, it soon became clear that we as the reader were totally in on the little secret. It felt very intimate and special, which hyped the excitement for how Marley was going to react when she figured it out or learned the truth somehow.

A great story, and very sweet romance.

This book is definitely a homage to the wonderful city TB loves so much. It is such a sweet, clean story of Marley, the American, who has come to acquire a struggling London bookstore from Cleo, the owner of a family business. Marley is prepared to dazzle her with her perfect spreadsheet presentation, but Cleo has other ideas which include a very well thought out walking tour of the city. With Cleo's impressive facts of the highlighted monuments and their mutual love for the great British authors, these women enjoy a very special day together, and so did I as a reader. As the day went on, their connection grew and grew. I felt like I had my own special tour full of the sights and tastes of London. But, at the end of the day, they each had a date with another. What would happen with the bookstore? Of course, TB had the perfect ending. I enjoyed this story so very much and heartily recommend it!

The Proposal is another of TB Markinson’s love letters to London. As an American Anglophile (alliteration!), I enjoyed the walking tour through the city, the discussions of its iconic literary history, and of course, the lesbians! History, book talk and women loving women are three of my very, most favorite things. Therefore, my point of view of this story may be completely askew. It will come as no surprise that I loved, loved, loved it. I wouldn't be able to not spoil it, thus I'm not going to provide a summary of the story.

It is a quick, enjoyable read, is genuinely interesting, and (spoiler alert) has the hoped for HEA ending. What more do you need? I do not need more but I do want more. I want Cleo to take Marly out on more excursions while they figure out how to save Braithwaite Books.

Although I would call it a novella not a novel, I loved it. It’s perhaps TB Markinson’s best writing to date. And that says a lot since she’s a pretty prolific writer and has published dozens of books to date.
This one, The Proposal, is sweet, fun and makes you want to visit London as soon as you can. When I finished it I felt like I’d spent the day in London and wanted to find the nearest English pub for a half-pint.
I’m hoping TB sets her next book in Ireland. Since she’s lived there I’d love for her to take us on a tour like she did in The Proposal.

4.5 rounded off to 5 stars
Such a cute book! Loved reading it. I read it while travelling in a train and my journey couldn't have been better. I feel like exploring London all over again after reading about Cleo and Marley's tour of the city.
This book also reminded me of a movie in my native language where the protagonists explore the city and only one person knows about the identity of the other person.
I needed this dose of happiness! I just wish this book was a little longer.

An Anglo-American affair

TBMs book has a great English historical theme with a nice view of literary London. The context is great and the main characters are so alive, especially Chleo who owns the London bookshop. I found the ending a bit short but this doesn't detract from the story. You'll enjoy reading this.

⤷ this is book 12 of 77 books i have downloaded for free on amazon kindle, so it may be time to finally go through them all. oh god, wish me luck.

it's very cute, except it bored me endlessly with random trivia about london i did not ask for nor cared to ever know in my life and the plottwist at the end was kind of silly, but it's still cute.

This was a nice little story, with a cute ending, but ‘Marley’ could be quite irritating at times. Her internal dialogues became annoying quite quickly and her inability to get a grip on her emotions made her a bit too much like a hormonal teenager.

Say yes to this one!

A very cute across the pond romance. Book lovers Carol and Glory meet online and strike up a romance. Real life Marley travels from New York to London to convince bookshop owner Cleo to sell her family-owned bookshop. Little does Marley know that her two worlds have collided. A sweet romance of kindred hearts.

TBM left me wanting more with this book! It was well written and the characters are well developed. I loved how she used landmarks in London that are related to writers of yore. Cleo was a favourite. I loved adventurous side and how she showed Marley what it truly means to love books and the bookstore that has been in her family for generations. It was an eye opening experience for Marley. Marley isn’t a so-called free spirit, she likes being prepared and Cleo manages to shake things up for her. It is a great book. I wanted more and I am hoping there is a sequel to Marley and Cleo.

4/5 - sapphic, contemporary, bookstore, novella. Cute and enjoyable romance! I liked both MCs, but especially Cleo and the energy she brought. I had absolutely zero desire at all to ever visit London, but the tour Cleo takes Marley on did make me at least a little bit curious (which I consider a solid feat). Minimal angst and a cute ending, good read!
