Seventeen-year-old Kaitlyn Noles has always been the kind of girl who studies hard and keeps to herself. But all of that changes when Sam—a black-haired, bright-eyed beauty with one hell of an attitude—gets transferred to her school. Despite Sam’s standoffish personality, Kaitlyn can’t help but feel drawn to her. How will her conservative parents react when they find out she’s crushing on a girl? As Kaitlyn struggles with her identity, she begins to tread down a dangerous path that could ultimately end everything, including her life.
A tough one to rate, for me anyhow. The basic premise is lacking. Although a newly out to herself baby lesbian may well experience a major sense of freedom, such dramatic personality change is just not quite believable. From goody two shoe solid student to fall down drunk high school dropout in weeks? Uh uh.
Writing is smooth and a 4. Solid characters and except for that noted above, a 4. I like Sam and Kaitlin!
But yet again, we get to read our way through gay trajedy. Bad things happening to homosexuals and stories far too easily interpreted as punishment for the sin of homosexuality. We know that's not what the author is telling us, but too many out there still don't! Sorry, but a 2 for that one.
Averages out to a 3. Make that 3 7/8 as I really liked the characters.
