Sara's Angel was Sala's first published book, issue by the Meteor Kismet line (reissued by Silhouette). It's a similar type of story as to what you find in older Silhouette Intimate Moments books - heavy on the romance, but enough plot to give the book some meat.
I'm mostly pretty indifferent to this book. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. It just kinda falls in between the two. The plot was okay...it had a lot of potential but for me it never quite lived up to it.
One thing to be careful about on this book is that you don't go into sugar shock because it gets overly sweet at times and I found it to be a bit of a turn-off. I particularly didn't like how Sara and Hawk couldn't talk to each other without using endearments. Darling...baby...my love...my little Wildcat. It got irritating when they couldn't address each other without using one of those terms. And calling Hawk "Darling"...well, it just didn't fit. He did not come off as the "Darling" type to me at all and I wanted to beg Sara to please stop calling him that. I've got nothing against endearments, but they were overused a bit too much in Sara's Angel.
So yeah, for me this was a take-it-or-leave-it book.
It is obvious that this is an older book by this author. Lots of phrasing and comments that do not fit today's PC standards. A lot more spicey than the way she writes today. The female lead had "tears in her eyes" or "had tears streaming down her face" for the majority of the book when she wasn't pitching a fit. Nothing like the stong, independent female leads that the author tends the use these days. Still happy I read it.
An early Sharon Sala Silhouette category romance first published in 1991. Sara Beaudry is a model who has a brother that works for some secret government agency. She receives a letter from him that indicates she may be in danger and for her to seek her brother's former partner, Mackenzie Hawk. So she sneaks out of Dallas to a mountain cabin in Oklahoma. Hawk left the agency and has no desire to return. When his old partner's sister (who he didn't know existed) shows up his first instinct was to leave her in the snow but he brings her in anyway.
I liked it. A bit sugary in places but it moved nicely and kept the story going. It didn't really feel all that dated like many of the books written back then.
Almost 30 years old now, this is still an enjoyable story. There are a few things that have really not aged well, but that's just a part of reading older books. Sala to this day is pretty flowery and gushing on the romance front, but it was definitely a bit more overwrought back in the 90s. It was hard not to roll my eyes a few times at how melodramatic the characters sounded. And I'm probably adding a whole extra star just for the villain's comeuppance.
So glad OpenLibrary exists because I doubt I would have been able to read this book otherwise!
Mackenzie Hawk had just buried the woman who had raised him from the halfbreed infant left at her door
Alone in the high Oklahoma mountain cabin where he had been sheltered and loved from the day she had found him, he felt Old Woman Hawk’s presence everywhere. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of an approaching motor, the motorcycle rider fell off just as it screeched to a stop. Removing the riders helmet, flame red hair tumbled out. The woman was on the verge of hyperthermia. Carrying her inside the warm house, he stripped her bare and immersed her in the tub he had filled with cold water, slowly increasing the waters temperature, he knew this would save her from death. Dear fellow lovers of Sara Salas read on for a great book.
This is a short but sweet romance between a “wildcat” and a jade color eyed Indian and it is delightful. Sara went to Mackenzie Hawk for help because her brother told her that Hawk was the safest place she could go when his cover was blown. True to form, Hawk did protect her from his worse enemy and their journey begins. Nice read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and did not go to bed until I finished it. MMC is a half breed white / Native American, one of my favourite type of hero while she is a well-known model. He is also a recluse with no family accept his dog. Her life is in danger and he literally becomes her guardian angel. She tries her hardest to break the walls he has around his guarded heart.
There is no way of stopping once you begun reading one of Sharon's stories. This was so suspenseful you have to continue to see what is next. I would recommend any of her books
Another beautiful story from Sharon Sala, I am now trying to find the books I haven’t read which are not many. I recommend this author to everyone…. But
Early Sala in Oklahoma. Agents of a mysterious group called "The Company" (gee, I wonder what that refers to) are trying to escape a sociopath who has sworn revenge. Roger only has one Achilles heel, his sister Sara. When he needs to disappear, he sends her a coded message to disappear, too and take refuge with his friend Hawk, a former Company agent now bitter and secluded in the Oklahoma mountains.
Sara is a high-fashion model who is surprised and totally out of her depth at this secret agent stuff, but more shaken by the beautiful man who is protecting her. There are danger and love and they finally eliminate all the obstacles to their happiness.
One of the author's earliest works from the 90's is dated, yes, but still an enjoyable read. We all have to learn and as a fan of Sharon Sala's present day writing I read this mainly out of curiosity. It is a bit flowery and long-winded in places but still delivers an interesting story, although a little bit un-PC at times. Times change but I'm a big believer in not changing the past just because they said things differently.
Loved it Halk and Sara what a pare. The both needing each other in a drive to ways. She needed a safe heaven and he need to let go of his past. Tougher they did just that This story had me hooked from the start no brannier it was that good hard to put down from the first chapter. A must read if you like Sharon Sala . One great book by one awesome auther.
