Uncovering dangerous secrets could bury them both for good. Nothing will stop deputy district attorney Shannon DeFord from prosecuting the biggest case of her career—not even a warning at knifepoint. Unsure of who to trust, she accepts security expert Rafe Zuniga’s daily protection. But when the threats turn deadly, they both know this is more than a typical criminal trial. Together, can they unravel a conspiracy…or will the truth get them killed? From Love Inspired Courage. Danger. Faith.
Jane M. Choate dreamed of writing from the time she was a small child when she used to entertain her friends with made-up stories. Her true writing career began when she penned a story for a children’s magazine, sent it in on a whim, and found, to her delight, that it was accepted. Someone was paying her to write! Writing for Love Inspired Suspense is a dream come true. Jane is the proud mother of five children and grandmother to four grandchildren.
I think I might have turned permanently blue from holding my breath all through this read. Tons of action including choreographed fight scenes that had me ducking and rolling right along with Rafe and Shannon! And the intricate suspense adds even more edge-of-your-seat stuff. Love that Shannon is a crusader on the side of justice and Choate made me feel all the exasperation and despair and anger over what these unscrupulous people are doing to innocent, hardworking folks. I so love it when the smarmy, corrupt guys get their comeuppance in the end though. That made my heart happy. :-)
And so did Rafe, by the way. He's got taciturn, brooding hero down pat, but with glimmers of humour. The last thing he wants to do is play bodyguard to the DDA, especially when he meets her and can't help but be intrigued. I do so love a reluctant love interest. :-) And this ex-military man is full of surprises! Loved peeling back the layers of his back story.
Also love the pithy lines of dialogue and surprise bursts of humour sprinkled throughout this intense story. Like this:
"Rafe decided he should put in for hazard pay. Shopping was a blood sport... Battle-hardened soldiers who had faced the enemy without flinching would have cowered at the hordes of women who attacked the sales racks in a fevered frenzy." (p 51)
Bwahahahaha!
Another riveting romantic suspense from Jane M. Choate.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Lethal Corruption. This is a great read! It's well-written, action-packed, and full of suspense. I really enjoyed it and I know you will too.
Deputy District Attorney Shannon DeFord is prosecuting the biggest case of her career. She stayed at the office late to work. As she is leaving a man attacks her and threatens her if she does drop the case. She told the guard but it took forty-five minutes to get the police to show up, as she had prosecuted a cop not long ago. Her friend sends her help.
Raphael Zuniga, ex-Delta Force didn't want a protection assignment for a pretty DDA but his boss sent him to help her friend. What could he do but accept? Soon the threats become deadly. Can he find the evil forces behind the attacks? Can he keep her safe?
A terrifying journey to stay ahead of the killers. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.
I don't often read romantic suspense, so I was surprised at how quickly the action started. And the action kept coming, and I kept thinking, "How I'd the action going to keep escalating?" But it did! It sure had me turning the pages. I hated putting it down.
There were a few times that the character's reactions or words didn't seem quite realistic (and just how quickly can an injured ankle heal?) but nothing that made me really frustrated with the book.
I love the love inspired suspense books. These books are hard to put down once a person stars reading these books. I always try and solve them but this book will keep a person in suspense to the very end of the book. If you also love these types of books pick it up and start reading this book but even if you don't like these types of books you will get booked in these books if you give this book and author a chance. Happy reading!
This one keeps you guessing, though there are hints of who the villain(s) might be. You have to wonder, though. Was that a clue or a red herring? Love watching the relationship between the hero and heroine grow even as they both deal with trust issues. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone who likes lots of suspense and action with a big dose of romance and tenderness.
This is a page turner for sure. It is action packed and full of suspense. I kept guessing who was the villain but boy was this a web of deceit that I did not figure out. I would highly recommend this book and author.
Do you enjoy people who fall in love in three days or so? If yes, then You'll love this. I will say that the author tried to keep the action coming, and didn't use the SAME bodily harm threat every time, which was nice.
