I have enjoyed this author’s work previously, I didn’t love this story for me it was only okay. The male lead is totally focused on finding and mating a female of his own species, unfortunately for him they're rarer than hens teeth. One of the workers under him is a human female whom he is attracted to. Things happen between them, but when a zandian female is discovered he lays claim to her. I won’t go into the story further, except to say I didn’t warm to him. Which ultimately affected my rating of this story.
I confess that I don’t review books on their sexual content. I read and review them for the story behind them. The sexual content varies so much that there are some that I wouldn’t bother with if I knew in advance what it was. This book I would classify as erotic. Very few books tell you up front what grade of sex is in them. Mostly they say 18+ and that’s it. Very occasionally they say erotic but I’ve yet to see one that says BDSM! However, back to the book. We are on the planet Zandia where there is a dearth of Zandian women because of an attack by another race that killed most of them. This is part of a series so I’m assuming that most of the men must have been away at the time. It turns out that Human women are genetic matches for the Zandians who comb the auction markets for them. They prefer to buy them but are prepared to take them by force if necessary. One such person is Kianna. We know that she worked in a factory and was never used as a pleasure slave and is good technically. I’m not sure how much work ever gets done. The only other worker seems to be another human woman who is advanced in pregnancy to her two Zandian husbands so is only met on one day. Other than that there is only Mykl the engineer. Mykl has vowed to his father that he will only marry a Zandian woman. The fact that there are no more Zandian women doesn’t seem to matter. So there we have two people who are attracted to each other. One, Kianna, makes her feelings clear. Mykl feels the attraction but won’t acknowledge it so the sexual tension ratchets it up. What we never learn is why human women are available on the Galactic slave market? Where are the human men? What happened to Earth? Why is it that human women are known for liking rough sex? Why is Kianna so totally oblivious to anyone’s feelings but her own? I like romance in a novel but not gratuitous, erotic or bondage sex. This could have been a much better book. I would have only given it two stars but I recognise that there are readers out there who lap up this type of sex. They will enjoy it much more than I did BUT that doesn’t change the fact that the story was sadly lacking.
I am a little obsessed with this series of books about purple horned aliens. I have no idea why but I am. This one was a different feel to the others - only one alien for starters and he was more than a little broken from his past. I did enjoy the slowburn in this one - it made the HEA even sweeter. Plenty of kink and dd play - Renee at her best.
I enjoyed some of the Zandian Bride stories this was okay I really liked Kianna and Mykl but there were some issues I had with parts of the story but it didn't bother me so badly to keep me from finishing it. First off the whole thing about this mysterious image Kianna was trying to unlock in her head I never really understood what that was all about because the author didn't really go into detail about it. I know she finally realized it was her Mother but there was very little we knew about Kianna' s life before she was taken as a slave. I know this was a short story so they had to cut some stuff but I thought it was very strange I almost thought the author was going to try and spin it and her find out she was half Zandian or something but that's not how it turned out anyways I do recommend reading this if you are looking for a quick read but I wouldn't recommend starting with this one if you haven't read the others I would start at the beginning so you can keep up.
Kianna has her eyes set on Mykl but he doesn’t seem to like humans very much. He is her Master at work and he keeps a close watch on her but he keeps fighting what is there. Everyone keeps trying to push her towards Arc and Bow but she feels nothing but friendship for them. I can understand why the Zandian’s want all the unmated humans to find a mate or mates but you can’t force it. I was a bit hurt when Mykl kept saying that he would rather wait for a Zandian female but there aren’t any. He just kept tempting Kianna. I understand his promise but that one was not meant to be held on to due to the loss of the Zandian females.
Couples were so unhappy. Cressa wanted Arc and Bow; Kianna wanted Mykl but they were with the wrong hook ups. I am glad that Mykl did come to his senses with the help of a newbie but still, Thank you. I was so afraid that Kianna would do something really rash. I was already crying for all the times that her heart broke. We have so many Zandian’s that need mates.
It's approaching the time to celebrate the Zandian Lights where King Zander has proclaimed all potential mates are free to choose thrir mate or mates without petition. Kianna works under Master Mykl, who she is drawn to but Mykl has sworn an oath to his father that he would marry a Zandian woman to keep their Zandian genes strong and pure. Mykl is also very attracted to Kianna but nothing could ever come of a match between the two because Kianna is a human. I enjoyed watching as the two were playing the game of push and pull, they were strongly attracted, but it wasn't meant to be due to Mykl's sworn oath to his now deceased father. The other characters in the story are strong and add reason to the confused pair's feelings. Watching it all come about was an adventure and the angst they feel was torn between attraction, hot sex and devotion to their individual feelings. In the end, I read the story, anticipating how everything could work out to give me the HEA I crave when reading a new story. It does and I got my wish.
Good addition to the series, but struggled to connect w/ H and h & not sure why
For adults only (18+ years) Contains subject matter that may be offensive, or sensitive, for some. This includes violence (fighting between Berserkers and their enemy - some to the death) and detailed intimate scenes.
I highly recommend that this series be read in order for maximum enjoyment. Otherwise, there will be a lot of gaps in the background and spoilers from previous stories.
I love the Zandian series and consider it to be in my top 10 series to date, but that being said this wasn't my favorite story from the series. I struggled with connecting to the characters for some reason. This is something I have never experienced with a Renee Rose or Rebel West story.
Maybe it was the structure, or that I accidentally missed this story when reading the series previously and went back to catch it ... not sure. Regardless, this story does have some grammatical errors. I recommend that they have these stories professionally edited.
Quick read. Somewhat interesting storyline. Mykl and Kianna have chemistry, but Mykl is determined to mate with a Zandian female and Kianna is human.
I was surprised it took Kianna so long to figure out what was wrong with Cressa. It was fairly obvious. I thought the names of the Zandian pair of Arc and Bow was kind of witty.
It seemed like the concept of the Zandia Lights took a back seat to Mykl and Kianna's relationship. I guess it should have, because the focus was on their situation, but it felt like if Zandian Lights was not mentioned in the book, I wouldn't have missed it. It didn't really add anything other than being an interesting concept.
Things work out for Mykl and Kianna, so they ultimately get their HEA.
There was a bit of action, some spanking, some sexual scenes. If any of that offends you, you should take a pass on this book.
A great addition to the Zandian Bride series. This book is about finding what you think you want and realizing what you really need is right in front of you. There is hot guys, passion, unrequited love, adventure, rescue and ultimately freedom to choose true love. Kianna has feelings for Mykl but he can't be her mate because of a promise to his dieing father. Two other warriors want to mate Kianna. Cessna is in love with those two warriors. And another Zandian female is discovered which adds more excitement to the mix. The once every 1000 years Zandian light show is about to take place. Can they all find their own happy ever afters or will honor and promises make everyone miserable? I recommend this whole series if you like some light BDSM. There are many different pairings in this whole series, one woman with one man or one woman with up to three men so far. I am clamoring for many more books in this series!
I thought that this was quite enjoyable. There was an underlying sweetness and lots of angsty feelings in this steamy read. This is a quick length read so the story isn't deep but it is emotional. I really liked Kianna and my heart ached for her. I so wanted her to get the HEA she wanted, even if I often felt that Mykl was unworthy of her. Speaking of Mykl, I liked him but I also found him stubborn, shortsighted and almost stupidly foolish. His honorability, which should have made him admirable, actually made him into a bit of a jerk and I hated how badly his words and actions hurt Kianna. Did it make for a heart tugging read? Yes, but that didn't mean I had to be happy about it. I seriously wanted to give him a good hard smack again and again and tell him to wise up and grab that happy while he had the chance. Other than that pet peeve, I liked this book a lot. This audiobook has a single narrator but I thought they did a good job.
The alien culture is detailed and well done, the mc is sassy but fun.
But there is a scene involving spanking where she cries and beds him to stop and his response is to keep going, not because he think she wants it, but because he genuinlly wants to punish and control her. The so called hero is a misogynist and it was a scene that was far too triggering to the point where I couldn't keep going.
Maybe the other stories in this series have promise, but if you're a domestic abuse/rape survivor like me, stay far far away from this one. I would suggest the author have the courtesy of adding a content warning as it was a horrible scene that came out if no where and did nothing to make the hero look like a worthy love interest and makes me doubt if the author has any idea if what makes a healthy relationship
Due to a lack of females, Zandians most often share a mate. Due to a special solstice, the King has decided that anyone can ask someone to be their mate whether it is as a single pairing or pairing with more than one mate. What a mixed up mess where there is a domino effect of those planning to mate when they are actually interested in someone else. Kianna loves Mykl but he wants to marry a Zandian female to keep his blood pure. They have such chemistry and banter though that you know from the start they are meant to be together. As the story progresses there are matches planned that are not made in heaven. Throughout the book, Kianna learns more about herself and a talent she can share with others. She is facing heartbreak but being a caring human, she wants to make sure others won't face the same fate as her. I enjoyed this story and the HEA for everyone.
A beautiful story about not getting what you want, this story finally addresses the thing between Mykl and Kianna, and it is just fabulous! I love how she is constantly trying to get him to love her, but is frustrated at every turn. She has intelligence and her gift, I'd like to see how that is developed in any future books. Damn, I hope there will be more in the future.....but it felt like she would have to settle for something less, because Mykl is a stubborn jerk through most of the book. I mean, he was so set on his crazy promise that he wasn't fully living, but the promise was more important somehow, than a possible reality. I loved the part of the Zandian tale, it really had a beautiful love story running through it, you just had to see them work through it.
Mykl & Kianna. Very uptight Mykl was determined to marry a Zandian female to continue the gene his father said to carny on, but started to like Kianna. They work together at an engineering place, but he resisted her for a long time. Kianna knows she likes Mykl and gives him chances, but he won't fall for it. She was courted by other two younger Zandians, but she knows that she likes Mykl. Mykl found a Zandian female and helped her resque. He announced to mate her and went almost through his vows, but he and her realized that they did not have the passion they fell for others. At the last minute, Mykl went after Kianna. Kianna released her promise to mate her two other Zandians who liked other human, Caressa. Mykl and Kianna got together.

Mykl longed to be a warrior like his father but due to toxic gas his lungs were damaged. However, he still has his mind set on fulfilling a Zandian promise to his father to mate with a strong Zandian female and pass on his strong genes. Even though a certain teasing human gets under his skin. She's been teasing him, joking with him, making him smile all year long. She can't help but fall in love even though it seems hopeless and he doesn't want her. Stubbornness, back and forth emotions and the drama. One of the easier books in terms of punishment. Its in the light side. Only spanking and the threat of a belt and cane. Oh and a little nipple nibbles as well as a couple orgasms for the lucky lady.
Warning: SPOILERS Three couples almost lost their chance at love. Damaged Mykl had made a promise to his dead father to carry on his line with a purebred Zandian female, so he pushed away Kianna his true mate. Because she lost faith in Mykl ever claiming her, she almost gave herself to two warriors that asked for her. Because of her hopeless claim to the two warriors, they almost lost their true mate, a med nurse who adored them. And when Mykl runs to save a Zandian female he quickly tied himself to her despite the fact that she and another warrior on the ship were true mates. When Mykl finally woke up it was almost too late, all because of him! This is another HFN story without an epilogue but I didn't need it.
What great book I have loved the whole series and this book is another favourite of mine. Mykl is a stubborn male and thinks that a promise he made to his father to only mate with a Zandian female before he died and that’s all that matters but he finds it hard to stay focused when a temping human Kianna keeps flirting with him and arousing his body. Kianna has only eyes for Mykl and she try’s to get him to take her as his mate but he will not, when she finds out why she must move on and there are two warriors Arc and Bow that want her but she just can’t let Mykl go. What to know more gets this book it was a great read.
Lovely story. I love Kiana and Mykl, even when he was being prickly. And he was being prickly a lot. But Kiana was persistent. I love how she kept doing everything she could to get under his skin.
I got so mad at him when he knew that he had feelings for Kiana but kept swearing he had to mate with a pure blooded Zandian woman, even though they hadn't found, but when one miraculously turns up, he's more than willing to make everyone, including himself, miserable for a promise to a dead man.
I love the lights celebration. I can just picture in my head how pretty it must be with all those lights through all those crystals.
*some spoilers* The hero of the book mykl is kianna’s boss. When the Zandian king declares a marriage free for all during the light holiday. Kianna has a crush on her boss and feels obligated to mate with a zandian becaue ae she has been on their planet a long time and feels like she is overstaying her welcome. Mykl like kianna more than he should, but he swore to his father that he would continue his sting warrior blood lines with a zandian female. This is the main conflict of this book. I enjoyed this book overall. It was fast moving and had a great climax. I enjoyed the multiple points of tension thorough the novel. The ending was both happy and satisfying.
Lovers of the Zandian series will be absolutely delighted at the 2018 holiday release of “Zandian Lights” by Renee Rose and Rebel West. And even better that we get to see Kianna get her happily ever after with the purple alpha of her dreams. “Zandian Lights” has aspects of a second chance romance and you’ll find yourself wanting to smack Mykl on the back of the head every time he allowed himself to get bogged down in his misguided notions instead of seeking true love. And Kianna is both lovely and strong, even through devastation. Catch your attention? Well, maybe you should grab a copy and read it for yourself.
I love the Zandian Brides series! We met these two in Mastered by the Zandians. Mykl is a brooding Zandian male, who only wants to do his duty to Zandia & his long dead father! Kianna has watched her other friends find their mate or mates but she has made that connection. Until she helps Mykl. It doesn’t go exactly as planned but Kianna & Mykl do gget an HEA and there’s a lot of fun getting there! Love this series & I hope there’s another Zandian book in my future!
What a bright Holiday, you can see the truth clearly.
Lee and Mikl , are two nice characters. She knows exactly who and what she wants and needs in her life. Mikl, not so much. He feels that he must honor the promise his dying father made him give him before he died. He never foresaw what the future would hold. So he has to decide what to do. True love with a human, or to be with a Zandian female just to pass on his dna, but to not feel the heat of a true mate? What a quandary!
This is a sweet little “office” romance, as these two work together. Lighthearted dom/sub themes, spanking in every sexy scene. If this is your kink, you will enjoy.
I only enjoy the very light side of dom/sub, so I won’t go any darker than this style of book. Even then, I almost wish we could skip the punishment for even one sex scene and just have a fantastic roll in the hay, but I get the “punishment as foreplay” should be consistent, if that’s what gets these two off. Just being nitpicky, I guess.
The fourth book in the Zandian Brides series a well written story that held my interest throughout. Kianna is secretly in love with he boss Mykl but he has told her he will only mate a Zandian woman. When they learn one is being put on up on a slave auction, on another planet he rushes to save the woman. There is also two men Arc and Bow who want her but Cressa is in love with them . You have to read this story to see how everything turns out for everyone. I enjoyed reading and want to read the next book. I read a copy through K.U. and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This book had all the angst and drama my reality-TV-loving heart could desire. The idea that a promise made is a promise to be kept, while extremely noble in wider sense, created only chaos for this little group. One of my favorite songs is Bryan White’s ‘Someone Else's Star’, and this story felt a little like the embodiment of that song. I love that everyone got reorganized to where they were supposed to be in the end. But up until that point, it was so deliciously frustrating watching them honor all the wrong promises. I read a borrowed copy of this book.
A nice addition to the “Zandian Brides” series. I enjoyed reading about both main characters. Mykil made a vow to his father that is having repercussions many years later. But his Zandian honor won’t allow him to forget it. Kianna is in love with him, but can never have him because of this vow. It’s a heart warming story how they both find their way to self acceptance and then love.
I also love it when characters from previous books are included. Domm, Lanz and especially Mirelle are in this book as Mirelle and Kianna have developed quite a close friendship.
The only thing that annoys me about this series is that the women have these amazing abilities, yet, they don’t explore them more. Especially in this one, she has this ability and this past and we learn of nothing. They are simply alien romances, not huge fantasy series but I do wish for more for the women: we understand they’re amazing because they’re human women, they have so much to offer and so much special about them; yet, what is that ability truly, what is their past, and who are they and what can they truly do.
You know the saying, "can't see the forest through the trees"? Well, Mykl certainly has blinders on when it comes to his charge, Kianna. Her sharp wit and even sharper tongue have him on edge. He made a promise to his father and Zandians are all about honor. Will he realize his lifelong goal of the perfect Zandian mating? You will definitely want to read Zandian Lights to find out.
Thank you Renee and Rebel for writing Mkyl and Kianna's story. Introduced in a previous book, finally Mkyl comes to his senses and embraces his destiny and his true love. Hot, sexy, purple horned aliens; feisty, smart, capable human females; and a story that continues to build the incredible Zandian world and the beings that inhabit it. Well written and quite enjoyable, the book does contain hot 🔥bedroom scenes and domestic discipline.
Kianna teased and tormented Mykl to insanity. She is a low human and he is Zandian male. He thinks he has to breed a true Zandian female. Be careful what you wish for. You may find out it isn't what you want. Kianna ties him up with so many emotions. Can he bring himself to say them? This is a true Zandia story. I have read them all, more than once. This is for adults only with a kinky ever after. I love these authors.
