Whiskey Run: Sugar #3

Second Chance Love

Rate this book
I was his wife… but he left me.
He broke my heart once, and if given the chance, he’d probably do it again.
Which is why I’ve tried to get over him.
I’ve dated, I’ve tried to let loose, but no matter how hard I try, my thoughts always return to Nash.
Every guy I meet I compare to him.
He was always overprotective and possessive.
And I’ve tried to convince myself those are bad things, but why did it make me feel so good… and wanted?
I’ve made a point to guard my heart against him, but he’s making it harder and harder to stay firm.
He turns up everywhere I am and watches me like he wishes he’d never let me go.
He is not a man to ignore… especially when he asks for a second chance.

If you enjoy instalove, steamy stories where the beautiful, curvy plus size woman knows her worth and gets the hot alpha man, then you’ll love the Whiskey Run: Sugar series. Each book in the series is a standalone.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Emery knows that she wants a family, she’s tried adoption but is denied since she’s a single woman, so to have her family she needs to put herself out there again. It’s hard though, especially since she still loves her ex husband Nash, but she wasn’t enough for him, he chose his work over her. Nash has been unhappy without Emery, he can see all the mistakes he made with their marriage, putting his work and the missions before her needs. His new mission is to win back his wife. He has been showing up everywhere she is even on her date with someone else. When he is shot and hurt, not mission related, he asks for her at the hospital. She’s shaken at him being shot and is there for him. She takes him back to her house for recovery. Nash knows he has to win her back and this is the best time to do it. Emery is understandably cautious but she warms back up to him and slowly starts to trust him. Unprotected sexy times leads to a conversation that should have happened before he was shot. He finally tells her he has promoted one of the other guys and he now will run missions from home. He tells her he wants to change and give her the family she wants. Epilogue with their adopted son, a daughter, and Emery telling Nash they are pregnant again.
I felt like Nash waited until she started dating to make his move, why did he wait a whole year after their divorce? It seemed like he only acted because he didn’t want anyone else to have Emery, his actions made it harder to believe his love for her.

Rounded up from 3.5. Quick, second chance romance, very short and satisfying read. Hope Ford’s books are like comfort food, easy to read, low angst with no cheating. This novella was too short to really get to know the characters and though it does read ok as a stand alone, I think reading previous Whiskey Run books would be helpful. I’d like to have known more about why the characters divorced as it seemed like a very solvable conflict. He worked too much, yet waited for a year post-divorce to make changes at his work. I guess he had other issues as well but the story didn’t get into how he solved those other than that he was ok now. I guess this is a nature of the novella, and it’s very difficult to do well. If you are a Hope Ford fan, this is worth a read. .

great writing, but I can’t stand Emery.

The story was well written and interesting, and easy to read. My next words don’t have anything to do with the authors ability to write a great story.

I did NOT like the Emery at all, though. She’s selfish and clearly didn’t really love Nash the first time they were married. She’s only okay with it now that she made him quit.
I am a military wife. Their jobs and missions are important, save lives, and protect us. For her to divorce him because she wasn’t getting enough attention is disgusting.

I'm glad Emery and Nash got a second chance!

I have really been impressed with this little series so far. The stories have been short and sweet but gives good depth of feeling.

Emery has been split and divorced from Nash since the beginning of the series, but she has been struggling to move on. I had been waiting for their story and it definitely tugged on my heartstrings. Nash has ached since he lost Emery and realized nothing in live means more than her. He knew he had to make changes, and get her to understand they were permanent if he had any chance to win her back. All it takes is one moment to almost lose everything to show what's most important.

I've really been enjoying this series and can't wait for Tara's story next.

Even though this is an ARC review I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

One of the better second chance romances.

I’m not a big fan of second chance romances but Hope Ford did a good job with this. The reason they broke up was believable and having them both still being in love and FAITHFUL was key. The fact that Nash still follows Emery around everywhere and makes sure she’s safe sealed it for me.

Usual I think Hope Fords books are just the right length for her stories but for some reason I wanted this one to be a bit longer. I think I wanted Nash to suffer just a little longer. But hey, I love a destroyed hero.

I was waiting for Emery and Nash's story and it didn't disappoint.

After their divorce, Nash keeps hoping and doing what it takes for Emery to be his again, but Emery wants none of the old loneliness she endured while he left her for his missions. Now something happens to Nash that makes them come together and all the feelings ask to be followed. Because, she, too, never stopped loving him.

Their story makes for a lovely book. Smooth and peppered with hot moments for such a short book. Perfect for a quick, relaxing read with no drama and dear characters.

I received a copy of this in order to offer my honest view on it.

This was such a good second chance romance, and after hearing about Nash in the whiskey run heroes series I was anticipating this one! I loved how you got Nash's POV first, giving you an overview of what happened before you meet his 'ex' wife Emery. I liked how you got to read their past relationship from both points of view, getting both sides of the story. I also liked that even though the 'divorce' happened a year before the events of this book that you author managed to make it all feel fresh and present, making the much wanted reconciliation feel more natural. I liked how much both characters still had so much emotions and feelings towards each other and all they have been through. I really enjoyed Nash and his possessiveness in their first shared scene and how that then made the transition smooth when it came to what happened next. I like that the drama of the story wasn't overly done, just used as a way for them to find their way back to each other.
After that you could feel their romance come back to life on the pages.

A great second chance romance. Emery and Nash have been divorced for a year now. They still love each other but both are hurting. Emery couldn’t deal with Nash always being away on missions saving other people or if he was home, always thinking about work. Nash realizes he messed up and now he’s determined to get Emery back. This was a quick read. Even though it’s a standalone book there are characters that we’ve met before. Emery is still in love with Nash but can’t handle the heartache every time he risks his life. Nash doesn’t feel he’ll ever be good enough for Emery but is taking steps to prove to her that he’s ready to be the husband she needs him to be. These two have a sizzling connection that leaps from the pages and they finally start to open up and tell each other what the need and want. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A great story about second chances. Nash has been on a mission to get Emery back since they’ve split up a year ago. He realizes that she was always his person so he starts to make changes starting with himself. Emery has slowly started to move on with her life but with Nash showing up to places where she’s at, it complicates her unresolved feelings for him. I fell in love with their chemistry and the way it ended was great.

Nash knew he messed up when his ex Emery ask for a divorce because as part of the Ghost Team he was gone more than he was home. Now his life is empty and he knows he has to get her back so he gives up his traveling to stay and try to win her back but he gets shot before he can put his plan in motion. Will Nash get Emery back?.

STORY:
WHAT I LIKED:
Second chance romances are not at the top of my list, however, I really enjoyed Nash and Emery’s story. Their story was sweet and I always enjoy the way the author tells her stories. Nash is a military guy and a work alcoholic, thus his ending marriage. Although it’s ended, I like Nash’s jealous side. It wasn’t crazy but added to the story. Emery is the towns baker and although her marriage is over, she still dreams of having kids. I thought their story was nicely done and sweet. I love that the author gave us a glance of the first time they met. If you are familiar with this author then you know what to expect.

WHAT WAS SO SO:
I personally didn’t have any issues with this story. It’s short and sweet.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY
The sex scenes for me were ok. This did not take away from the story.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I love Emery’s best friends from pervious books past. I am a little excited for Tara’s story and the bikers.

OVERALL:
Was I entertained? Yes.
Did I like the story? Yes.
Would I read the other books in the series? Yes.

TRIGGERS: Gun Violence (very mild)

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

It was good,
I prefer when the couple work on their problems without an accident, a kidnapping, a surprise pregnancy or something like that happens to them, but it was good the same,

She is dating other men because they’re divorced but nothing happens with these men, in fact, there’s a scene where heroine is in a date with someone and she gives him money for the drinks, he took it and she instantly thought that his ex husband would neeeeever took it! I don’t know why but I loved that thought!!!

Safe and romantic,
In the blurb I understood that H left her and I was instantly intrigued and expecting a good grovel but it’s heroine who asked for divorce, H was never there, he worked all the time!

Wonderful! Quick short read! With a outstanding HEA!!

Nash meet Emery in Texas they get married and then they get divorced because Nash is always gone on missions. Nash wants to get back with Emery it’s been a year since the divorce. Emery has tried to date but no one compares to Nash. Emery just can’t stand that he’s always gone on his missions. Nash has a meeting with Walker because he doesn’t want to go on missions anymore. Nash wants to win Emery back. Nash gets shot helping someone and hits his head then is rushed to the hospital. Walker calls Emery because Nash is asking for her. Emery rushes to the hospital to be by Nash‘s side. Nash needs someone to watch over him when he is released from the hospital. Emery tells the doctors she will do it and she will take care of him. Nash and Emery go back to her house, which is the house they lived in when they were married. Nash talks to Emery and lets her know he wants to get back together. Nash knows in his heart Emery wants the same thing. Emery Tells Nash she wants a baby she has been applying to adoption agencies. Nash realizes he wants the same thing. Nash confesses to Emery that he’s stepping down, and not going on missions. Nash tells Emery he wants her back and he will do everything for her, including giving her a baby. Nash and Emery have a phenomenal HEA!!

Hmm, this felt way to fast paced.
She welcomed him back with little to no grovelling.
Nash and Emery divorced a year before. But Nash has "stalked" her ever since. I know we are supposed to think it's cute he is watching out for her, but still, any sane girl would have yelled at him a long time ago.
He turns up at a date she is on and completely ruins it (even though it was a bust) she yells at him finally, but then in the next breath is completely OK with him following her home.
Then, a few days later, he gets shot (a graze on his arm) and a concussion, and of course, she volunteers to look after him.
First night (remember the man has a serious concussion) they start having sexy time.. are they teenagers, they can't control themselves for a few days.
4 days later, and because he made her dinner, boom, they are back together.
So we just take back guys because they finally see us moving on, so make 1 change in life, and all is forgiven.
Personally, she should have dated him for a while to make sure he was serious about the change, not just take his word.
The adoption at the end seemed unrealistic and could have been switched in the epilogue to a surprise adoption a year or 2 later, not 2 weeks after them getting back together. Please 😒🙄
Easy read if need a palate cleanse from heavier reads but not my favourite.

*spoilers* Emery asked Nash for a divorce, because he always put work first and she did not see a future together. They are seperated for a year, she tries dating, but it does not feel right. She also has troubles fulfilling her biggest weish a baby. He has been stalking her and fights for his wife, knowing she will always be his one. Then he gets hurt and they spend time together...
I was excited to finally read Emery's and Nash's story, having already met them in the other stories. I can certenly recommend reading them, they are just as heartmelting, but you will still enjoy this book without knowing them.I often had teary eyes while reading this story. The bond between Nash and Emery is still there. He really fights for her and make big changes in his life. It was heartbreaking to read their point of views, and I could connect with both. Understanding why Emery is so reluctant to make herself vulnerable for heartbreak. Nash how he now sees what he has done to his wife in the past and now puts her first. When they finally talked about what they want and what is so hard for them, it makes them so much happier and stronger.

Good

I had been waiting for this story. In other stories you know they are divorced and that they still have feelings for each other. I couldn’t wait to read about why. Nash was a good guy but pretty much neglected Emery their entire marriage. It wasn’t until she served him divorce papers that he realized just how much he neglected her. It took him another year and her starting to date for him to finally realize he needed to make permanent changes if he was going to win her back. I liked that Emery didn’t immediately give in to him, didn’t immediately let him off the hook. He had to work for her love and prove to her he had changed.

Safety and Spoilers
Safe. No ow drama, h went on a date with a guy who had been asking her out for a while. She was not into it at all and was only dating because her friends wanted her to start moving on. H interrupted the date when he saw her date touch her shoulder, he couldn’t stand to see another man touch his woman. Nothing mentioned about either of their pasts except H had never been good around women. H was shot in the arm when he tried to help a woman with a broken down car on the side of the road. Her abusive boyfriend showed up and shot him.

This is the third book in the Whiskey Run: Sugar series. This one also links into the Whiskey Run: Heroes series.

This one is also different in the couple is divorced and while she is trying to move on he is trying to win her back. It does flash back to when they meant and they did have an insta-love moment there which I thought was very sweet.

It has a touch of drama and a lot of love and heart.

I love Hope Ford's writing and how we fall in love with her characters and her world in such a short time.
.
.
.
Emery is trying to move on from Nash. A year ago she filed for divorce which he granted but regardless of that she hasn't been able to move on. Her friends are pushing her to get back out there so even though she doesn't want to she does give it a try.

Nash regrets a lot of things but his biggest regret is that his marriage to Emery failed. He knew she was the one the night they met but he's done so many things wrong since then he can't blame her for leaving him. He's spent the last year without her and it was the worst of his life. Now it's time to fix his mess and get the love of his life back.

It may be too late though because Emery can't go back to the life she had with Nash before and she is serious about it being over. Even with the changes, Nash intends to take with his business partners Emery may still not take him back.

When Nash is hurt and reaches out for Emery she's by his side and it's hard to deny that she still loves him. If only things were different.
'The truth is we are still bound together. She still loves me just as I still love her. Somehow, some way we have to find a way to make this work. I won't let anything else happen.'

Happy Reading.

Book 3 in Hope Ford's awesome Whiskey Run: Sugar series, Second Chance Love, is an emotional, engrossing, steamy and sweet second chance love story. Having read the preceding series, Whiskey Run: Heroes, I have been eagerly anticipating Nash's story - and it was worth the wait. Nash and Emery are recently divorced. His work as a mercenary drove them apart, but Nash is determined to do whatever it takes to get his wife back. When an injury forces the two together, Nash pulls out all the stops to win over the love of his life. Emery, owner of the town's bakery, has never stopped loving Nash, but the danger and time apart associated with his job still scares her. However, with Nash suddenly underfoot 24/7, can she really deny the love that still exists between them, or will this end them for good?

Kindle-melting chemistry, a swoon-worthy hero, a strong and sassy heroine, and the awesome supporting cast of Whiskey Run characters? Second Chance Love is a must-read in this delightful series!

This is the 3rd in the Whiskey Run: Sugar series and it’s finally Nash’s story. Nash and Emery have been divorced for a year and he just can’t let her go. Emery still loves Nash but can’t take all the missions he was on and time spent away from her so when she divorced him she knew she had to try to move on. Emery has tried to date a few guys but Nash always shows up where she is and even though she’s not really interested in any one else she gets mad when he interrupts her date. Nash has already decided to cut back from missions because his love for Emery is stronger than his desire to keep being gone all the time. Now it’s time for him to win Emery back and when an accident lands him in the hospital he knows it’s time to make his case with her for a second chance. This was another exceptional book in the Whiskey run series and I highly recommend this book (and the whole series) to everyone.

Nash and Emery used to be married, however, Nash was always concentrating on his job more than his wife. She made a decision to divorce him and Nash only agreed because he could see how miserable he made her.
However, even though they both still love each Emery decides she needs to move forward with her life, but Nash is still in the picture, making sure she is safe.
When Nash gets shot, Emery is there to look after him and Nash is determined to make her realise he still loves her and is ready to make their relationship work this time. He is stepping back from the dangerous part of his job so he can be around for her more often. But will Emery believe him and take a chance a second time around.

This is a second chance love story, it is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. This book also links into another series by the same author.

I enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to read the next one.

This is book number 3 of the Whiskey Run: Sugar series and focuses on Nash and Emery. They fell for each other at first sight and got married, but unfortunately Emery was always put on the back burner behind work so she left. It’s been a year since the divorce and Nash has regretted losing Emery and not making her a priority while they were married. He is determined to win back the love of his life and put in the work to make the changes needed. Emery is scared to open herself back up to Nash because she doesn’t want to go through the hurt he put her through again. Thankfully, Nash is able to finally win back his woman and shows her that she is the only thing that matters to him. This was hands down the best second chance story I’ve read in a while. You could tell just how deeply they loved each other even while they were apart. This was a fantastic addition to the series. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Lmao, I had a hard time with this one. I came back after barely making it through One Night Love (WS 1) and Rebound Love (WS 2) because I wanted so bad to see the resolution of Nash and Emery, considering they'd been teasing his obsession with her through the past 2 books. I wanted to know why this man was stalking his EX-wife.

I just found every books of this series (I'm generalising because I KNOW I'm not reading book 4) especially boring. They were quick except when they weren't, and that was pretty much every interaction between the MCs.

Neither character was that interesting or fun to read perspectives from, and past trauma aside it seemed they could resolve their issues if either one was up for just having a candid conversation. But Nash's complete inability to say what he feels, and Emery's blatant prejudice against Nash because he was an absent husband, were the longest and most unnecessary roadblocks. Like why didn't he just call her up and meet for coffee? Idk, this situation confounds me.

Nash and Emery are divorced. He made his job his number one priority and lost her because of it. Having essentially stalked her for the past year, he has decided it is time to try to get her back. It is made much easier for him when he is injured and Emery helps him in his recovery. It was sad to watch them for a while. He doesn’t tell her his story and plans for far too long so she has inaccuracies in her head from the start. She is literally planning to be hurt again and he basically lets that happen by not talking to her about it. Love between them has never been the issue—him treating her and their relationship as important was. He was good at telling her things would change and not changing. He never even really told her about his job. I kind of wished she would have liked someone enough to date a little more over the last year. I like Nash is shown doing what he needs to. .

I have been waiting for Nash and Emery's story and this is one that grabs at your heart.

It has been a year since Nash gave Emery the divorce she wanted, and a year of him struggling without her. Knowing he messed up, and now he needs to do something about. "It's time".

Emery still loves Nash and misses more each day, but she knows his job is important to him and will not chance. It's time to move on and date, but it hard when her ex-husband is around more than when they were married.

But nothing is that easy, Nash gets shot while helping someone, Emery is there for him. While recovering Nash and Emery learn a few things and rediscover other.

Heart melting story from start to finish, I love that Nash never gave up and did what he needed to do. Emery strength to do what she needed made me love her character even more.

It's good to get a second chance.

This the third book in the Whiskey Run series. Nash has realised what he did wrong in his marriage to Emery and now he wants that second chance. He still loves her so much and he is willing to do anything to get her back. Emery is still feeling betrayed when she got her divorce from Nash. But can she trust him again after he put his job before her??? All it takes is one threat to life for this couple to see what was really in front of them.

I loved this book. I am a great lover f second chances and you could clearly see that Nash was going to everything he needed to get the love of his life back, even changing his job. I can also see the other side from Emery's POV with the lack of trust in what he says. The chemistry was still there between them but has too much water passed under the bridge for a reconciliation???? I am looking forward to more books in this series.

Loved Emery and Nash's second chance story

Second Chance Love is the third book in the Whiskey Run: Sugar series and this one hits the sweet spot between romantic and smexy hot, with a dash of whimsy. When Emery served Nash with divorce papers he finally got his wake-up call...only it was too late. But this man is not about to let the only woman he has ever loved go without a fight, and that includes some clandestine operations to make sure she stays safe and protected. Emery had had enough of Nash being away all the time and breaking her heart. So she walked away but is finding it is actually harder to really divorce her feelings after all. That becomes especially true when she just cannot make any connection with another man like she had with Nash. With him watching over her Emery doesn't have a chance, even as she fights it all the way. You know that when these two get back together it is going to be explosive and they both will be seeing stars.
