A super-star knight with a de Wolfe pedigree… and the Scottish rose who saves his life.
In the turbulent lands of the English/Scottish border, their love wasn't meant to last.
... but no one loves as strongly as a de Wolfe.
Warwick “War” Herringthorpe was born of a Northumberland de Percy daughter and the Wolfe of the Border, William de Wolfe, back in the days when William was a rising hero, unencumbered by marriage, free to do, and love, whom he so chooses. A brief relationship with Jane de Percy left Jane pregnant and William unaware of the situation. Jane’s father had bigger aspirations for his daughter than a mere knight and quickly married her to a much-older, titled husband who was willing to overlook her indiscretion.
Years later, War has returned to Northumberland as a royal knight, the garrison commander of mighty Bamburgh Castle as Simon de Montfort creates havoc throughout England. Heir to a minor barony, War has made a name for himself as one of Henry’s fiercest knights. In a battle against de Monfort’s loyalists, the garrison at Bamburgh is joined by some of the most powerful families in the north – de Wolfe included.
De Wolfe allies who see Herringthorpe fight, including de Wolfe sons, swear there is a new force to be reckoned with in Northumberland. His gestures, movements, and appearance are reminiscent of a young William de Wolfe. And the rumors begin.
When War ends up in a battle against opportunistic Scots, he is gravely wounded and crawls from the battlefield to stay clear of deadly Scots. He is saved by a young Scotswoman whom he never expects to see again.
He was wrong.
Upon his mother’s death, War’s true father is revealed, plunging War into a world he doesn’t want to be part of. He learns to resent the Wolfe of the Border, who left his mother when she was pregnant, and so begins War’s intention to meet the greatest knight in England. Perhaps he might even intimidate and dominate him. But there’s only one catch…
The lovely Scotswoman who saved his life happens to be William’s kin.
Join War and Annaleigh as they navigate a romance that is as complex as it is beautiful, where family ties will be tried – and tested – and love is the ultimate glory.

Sometimes I feel like I keep repeating myself on reviews of the amazing tales of Kathryn Le Veque!! Well, they all will pull you into the world of her wonderful imagination and back in time.
There is nothing better than the De Wolfe family and their friends and relatives. In this one, Warwick, War (don't you love their nicknames?) is a battle against some Scots, by a Scottish lass, the future is set in place.
Annaleigh does not think to ever see him again, but fate brings them together in an unexpected twist. Will these two find love and have a happy ever after?
Never dull, a lot of the previous characters show up to entertain.
Le Veque never disappoints with a gut clinching medieval romance. You never know exactly where the hero is going. You can hardly wait to find out. There is always a beautiful strong willed woman influencing their path to a fulfilling ending. Warrick Herringthorpe is a fierce warrior In a battle between the English and the Scots on the Scottish border, War becomes gravelly injured. Annaleigh, is his Scottish angel who comes to his rescue and saves his life at the risk of her own. Never did they think they would see each other again. Fate had other plans when they meet at William de Wolfe's Castle Questing. War is in turmoil over the death of his father and the secret his mother never revealed, but his love for Annaleigh will be his salvation. Very mild heat level. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Tropes : historical romance, romantic suspense, enemies to lovers, medieval romance Ending : HEA (set 6 months later with both of them married) Triggers : gore, violence, mentioned of sexual assault, death of parents Spice: 🌶️🌶️/5 Angst: 🔥🔥🔥/5 OM/OW drama: OM (very slight, 2 guys were trying to pursue the h) Celibate while separated: virgin h, unsure about the H Standalone/Series: part of a series but can be read as a standalone
Hero: Warwick 'War' Herringthrope (27) Heroine: Annaleigh Scott (idk)
This was a story about a man that was told he was a bastard of William de Wolfe after believing for 27 years that he was a Herringthrope. The story started where War was dying and Anna found him and tended his wounds.
They were supposed to be enemies but since Anna was a very kind and compassionate woman, she saved him instead of killing him like what her people told her to do. Obv no one but them knew about it.
Months later they met again when War went to William's castle and Anna was sent by her dad to live there with her cousin, William's wife because her clan blamed her for the war that happened months before (that almost killed War).
They instantly recognize each other and soon became intrigue and feelings started to grow. Anna was pursued by 2 knights while living in England and she didn't like any of them but when it came to War, she was hooked.
The book wasn't very romance oriented. It was split between the drama of War being William's actual first born son and his bastard at that. The romance part is nice, I didn't really find it lacking although a little bit more romance would be much appreciated. Their love was almost insta-like, but it didn't feel off tho, at least not for me.
Overall a nice medieval romance with a bit action thrown in.

Warwick is a perfect example of the kind of hero that makes reading a Kathryn Le Veque book so very satisfying. A man of honor and one of the fiercest knights ever unleashed, War is everything a woman wants. He's appointed commander of a garrison at the border, and has no idea how that appointment is going to challenge everything he's ever thought about himself.
Annaleigh, daughter of her clan laird, is a kind hearted, intelligent young woman who is being used as a pawn by unknown villains. When she finds a mortally wounded War after a battle she feels responsible for, she stitches him up, though she still doesn't expect him to live. Nor did she expect him to waltz into the keep where she's staying eight months later, healthy and no longer her enemy.
This set up was brilliantly executed, pitting the two on opposite sides at first, then with shifting allegiances they find they just might have a chance to get to know each other. But there are secrets - both in her clan and in his family history - that make it almost impossible for them to have a future together.
This author continually astounds me with her creative storylines and compelling characters. It's easy to root for War and Annaleigh, despite the odds against them, because the chemistry between them is just so beautifully portrayed. You can feel them falling more in love each time they meet. The settings and historical detail are unparalleled, so be warned that it might be difficult to mentally come back to the present time after you finish this book.
The main secret was revealed in a way I could not see coming, making much more of an impact in an area that I hadn't even considered. The eventual resolution to the conflict with the villains was in itself a powerful statement that resolved so much more than just the threat against Annaleigh.
There's no shortage of heroic action, heartwarming family moments, and swoon-worthy romantic encounters in this book, and I absolutely loved every bit of it. Ms. Le Veque is still the undisputed Queen of Medieval Romance. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
William, Kieran, & Paris together again! Kathryn le Veque is always a must-read first day of publication for me, but any book that has William de Wolfe with his besties Paris de Norville & Kieran Hage fighting together again & commanding their armies is a special treat. Plus we get to see the Scott cousins Jordan & Jemma in action, William & Paris' oldest sons are fighting alongside their fathers, and a 4 year old Penelope de Wolfe is already ruling the roost. So excitement abounds all around just for those reasons. Add in the fact that Warwick meets Annaleigh under very similar circumstances as William & Jordan de Wolfe and the magic is really happening.
For her safety, Annaleigh's father, the chieftain of Clan Scott, sends her to stay with her Aunts Jordan & Jemma at Castle Questing, the de Wolfe stronghold, where she is pursued by a d'Vant knight and a du Reims knight (fun breadcrumbs to other le Veque books!) but her heart is captured by the new commander at Bamburgh Castle, Warwick Hetherington.
Warwick gets some astonishing, and not entirely welcome, news on his father's deathbed. In addition to mourning his father's death, he must find a way to deal with this information in a way that respects his mother, his father, and an unknown third party. But falling for Annaleigh gives him the push he needs for resolution of his confusing feelings.
We are left definitely wanting more of these 2, and more interactions with the de Wolfe empire. Well done Ms le Veque!!!
Battlewolfe by Kathryn Le Veque is the newest edition in the saga of the de Wolfe family. This is one of the best in a while and it too good for me to give anything away. Of course, it is a love story, but it is so much more. The characters are all present: William, Jordon, Keiran and Jenna. But there are new ones: Annaleigh Scott, kin to Jordan and Jemma; and Warwick Herringthorpe “War” to those who know him. They meet on the battlefield and then months later at Castle Questing. Annaleigh is there at the request of her father, Ian, Laird to the Scott Clan, who is beseeched by traitors seeking to undermine the laird and trying to use Annaleigh to do it. There are battles. There are deaths. All the things Le Veque does best. And there is War . . . the finest warrior in the land.
Annaleigh is a sunny girl, nice to everyone. She is beautiful as well. Everywhere she goes, men look at her, but she is not interested. Even in the several that pursue her openly. Until War. But, she is not a high-born English lady. She has no chance. War wants to marry her. He had never wanted to marry before. What has happened to him? Will William, in her father’s stead, approve of his quest. Probably not after everything that has passed between them. It is a conundrum. What is to happen. Le Veque, you have done it again! I loved this story. It is the best one in a while. Thank you!
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of BattleWolfe by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine alone. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #KathrynLeVeque #BattleWolfe
Warwick Herringthorpe was saved after a battle by a Scottish woman who shouldn't have done it. If her clan found out she would be in danger.
Months later after another battle, War came home to devastating news that only got worse. Our hero's world is shattered by the news his father is not who he always believed.
Annaleigh believes herself to be the cause of many deaths. Her father has sent her to family on the English side of the border to protect her. The last person she expects to see ride into her Uncle's stronghold is the injured warrior she helped.
This is another wonderful addition to the De Wolfe Pack books. As usual our author wrings every drop of emotion from us while we learn about her characters. Families are complicated and this one just got more so. We meet up with lots of old friends and remember why we love them all so much. The battles, the humour, the love and the ever changing stories keep me buying every book this author writes without bothering to read the blurb. I know I'm going to love them all.
I wish I could convey what KLV stories mean to me. She pulls you in from start to finish and all the glorious stuff in between.
The main character's are strong, centered, written with great depth, loving and perfect for each other. How they meet is very touching. To think the enemy goes through the dead and wounded to steal their possessions is unnerving. Our h couldn't do it and comes across the H who is near death and saves him. The start of their journey to HEA is filled with rough roads at times.
We have many villains that kept the pace moving. Then we are treated to all our beloved secondary character's that will make you feel like your with family again. Even though this story is part of a huge series, it is a stand alone because how KLV gives us great background.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, secrets revealed, violence, suspense, sadness/joy, humor, very romantic, HEA and a small tad of spice within marriage. Heat level 1.5 out of 5 if that. I can't improve on the blurb, just recommending this author highly and this story/series. (ljb)
Battles, Secrets, Treasure: A dramatic prologue grabbed my attention right away and didn't let me go... Tis where we meet Analeigh and discover her sweet nature while in the middle of danger and get a glimpse of an English knight named War. This author has an incredible way of writing that just sucks you right into this very emotional powerhouse of a story. There are many shocking life changing situations for this intriguing cast of characters along with a developing heartfelt romance between War and Analeigh. Lots of excitement, humor, betrayals, secrets, and a few gut-wrenching moments. I don't ever remember reading a book written by this author that I did not shed a few tears while reading her stories. This is a very emotional well written wonderful story that I really could not stop reading. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy. All thought and opinions are my own. It's always a treat to read about the DeWolfe family.
Discovering the truth about his birth, War Herringthorpe is confused and begins to doubt everything he has ever known. However, seeing the beautiful woman who saved his life on the battlefield makes him restrain himself from blurting out what he knows, especially when he discovers that Annaleigh Scott is living in the stronghold of William de Wolfe. It's love at first sight, but before War can reveal himself to William de Wolfe, there are a number of crises that have to be dealt with first. This romance draws one in from the opening pages and the secrets carried by War only add to the suspense. The attraction between War and Annaleigh is palpable, but when it would seem that her clan members are intent on stealing her from War, he takes the only way open to him. Although this novel is part of a series it is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this novel through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is absolutely wonderful. This is book 16 in the series and sadly the first I have read. Its one of the best stories I have read and will say if you like Historical novels you will love this. The chemistry between the characters is wonderful, its filled with love laughter and a bit of fighting with swords, daggers and what ever else they had on them to kill the enemy. What a wonderful story. I could not put this down or perhaps I should say I had a lot of trouble in doing so because once you start reading it grabs hold of you and you find yourself still reading at 2:00am. Katheryn LeVeque is a wonderful writer and knows just how to get to the heart of the matter and keep her readers wanting more. I so loved this and now I have to go back and start with book 1. Lord this could get expensive since I am starting with book 16. I rated this with 5 stars. I look forward to reading more. Thank you Katheryn for several nights of really wonderful reading.
Another Kathryn Le Veque book hits the 5 star review, with great characters in abundance as always. As they skirmish and battle - brutal fights that are filled with blood, gore, and death, we are immersed in the history and politics of the period. All threaded with the human experience and condition of that world, including the mundane and ordinary everyday of castle life. Politics makes a cruel taskmaster, and those at the top in the medieval world live, eat, and breathe politics. This is what we expect from the best of Kathryn’s books. Here are some characters we know well, the leaders and great men we’ve followed through so much since their first appearances. More recent characters in the back ground and filling the edges. Best of all are Warwick and Annaleigh - new characters at the centre of this romance. Of course there are secrets, betrayals, lies, and heartbreak, where coming to terms with it all is hard and exhausting. Through it all Warwick and Annleigh tread their path to a HEA. I LOVE this book. Read. Read. Read.
Wolfe being my all time favorite all book. I have read it three times and will continue to do so. Knowing that story and reading this just chilled my heart . I could not put it down. Kathryn LeVeque stories are like your family. You connect, feel ,hold on to , and want more. Never disappointing. Anna Leigh Scott and Warwick Herringthorpe met when she was trying to save his life. He a English Knight and she the Daughter of a Scottish Clan. Never knowing if he lived or if they would see one another again. Fate had something much bigger in store for them . This Storyline will touch you emotionally , tears were shed, memories were brought back, new ones were made. and true love was formed. Thank you for your review.
I’ve read more than 60 books from this author and have never been disappointed. She is definitely my favorite. In this book, War is the commander for a strategic castle and a highly educated and recognized knight for the king. Annie is the daughter for the laird of the Scot clan. When she finds a wounded War, the enemy, on the battlefield she must decide whether to help him or rob and kill him as her clan requires her. She helps him and assumes she will never see him again. Then events take place that put War in connection with the deWolfe’s where his heritage is revealed, a reconnection with Annaleigh, a plot to harm her uncovered, and a love blooms. Loved the characters, old and new and the story was great.
How I love to immerse myself in one of Kathryn Le Veque's books and this one was no exception. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down! From the harrowing way Annaleigh and War meet, you just know the rest of their story will be awesome....and it was! It was also a thrill to meet up with William and Jordan and so many other De Wolfe clan members, it was like visiting with old family again.
The knights, the castles, the battles and the romance, the humour and the sad parts, all come together to bring you another unforgettable story from this beloved author.
I love Kathryn’s books their always filled with drama, action and true heroes we love both past and present. Warwick aka War Herringthorpe’s world is shattered when his mother dies and its revealed who his father really is, it’s not who he always believed was his father as secrets and lies are unraveled. I love a story when the heroine saves the warriors life and fall in love between all the turmoil, lies and deception as War tries to come to grip of who his father is and the woman who’s captured his heart as war wages all around them. I voluntarily read and reviewed this excellent story.
BattleWolfe, book 16 in Kathryn Le Veque’s De Wolfe Pack series was a beautiful story. A fitting ending to this saga, as it parallels the story of it’s beginning. The story of William and Jordan’s meeting in War, his bastard son, and Annaleigh, Jordan’s niece. And a love match for the ages, a generation removed. It was fun seeing the De Wolfe, Hage and De Norville families young again, and meeting Christian Hage. Author Kathryn Le Veque never disappoints! You’re going to love it!
All of Kathryn Le Veque books are beautiful. Each one has depth of character. She describes the environment they are in and you feel it as if you’re right there with them breathing the same air, experiencing it all. She reaches deep into the souls of her characters and dramatically moves me deep within my soul. She makes you feel like you know these people. I loved this story of War and Annie. There are many “stories” within the story which adds to the spice and beauty of it all. pamarella PRCS
A very special medieval romance. Another epic love story from Kathryn LeVeque. Well written and deeply emotional. Wars and rumors of wars, with skirmishes between the reivers, the English border Lords and the Scottish. Even with all of that, love blooms between a black church trained Knight named War and Annaleigh Scot niece to William DeWolfe through his wife Jordan. "Love is the beginning of forever".
As always, Kathryn has written a historically accurate romance of epic proportions. The characters are woven skilfully into our eager minds. There are both villains, heroines and heroes to satisfy expectations. The reader is immediately immersed into a setting of the best of Le Veque knights and remains of keen interest throughout. Thanks you Kathryn for another captivating tale and the promise of more adventures with the prodigy of the newlyweds.
Just what I needed to bring back the wonderful memories of my favorite knights and their fantastic families. I admit that I love everything about the deWolfes, Hage and Paris families and their stories you bring to life on your written page. Battle Wolfe gives one thought to how one is never sure of what life may bring to you during your lifetime. Thanks for the memories and the new stories that you brought us, transporting us to another time. You are unquestionably our Queen.
A young knight from England was stationed at the border by the king of England. He was gravely wounded and stitched up by a young Scottish woman who helped him rather than kill him. She was his angel they both thought they would never see each other again . But she was sent to the English side of the border with her aunt and the young knight was making a visit to her uncle.
Kathryn le Veque has outdone herself again. I love reading about the De Wolfe's, even if he is a bastard son. I loved War's character, so much like William's. Of course you have annaleigh who saved his life. This was an excellent love story. Plenty of action, surprises, danger and true love. HEA. I just reviewed BattleWolfe by Kathryn Le Veque. #BattleWolfe #NetGalley
Some books in a series can be read as standalone, the sign of a great author. This is not one of those books. I've never read Le Veque before and I can't even say I did after this one- because this was a solid DNF for me. The writing style was super long sentence structure with name after name after name of characters I didn't know and hadn't been introduced yet. I'm not a huge fan of politics heavy romance so this wasn't checking any boxes for me. I wanted to give this one a try to try a new author and the battle scarred H with smart h trope is one of my favorites- but this was a disappointment at 30% so I moved on. I imagine if you are a fan of this series already this would be like returning to old friends, but I couldn't take the half-a-page-long sentences any longer. I received an ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review.
Finally! A new Le Veque book for me to read! And I loved going back to William de Wolfe's time and finding another son. I loved Annaleigh, who is so much like Jordan, and their love is so like that of William and Jordan. I just wish there were more Le Veque books out there - once again, now I've read every one. 😃
Band of Brothers🐺💪🐎🗡 ADULT Medieval Romance💕 of Knights🐺🗡🐎💪, Battles🗡🐎 and Castles🏰. There are extremely emotional moments in this fairly long but mesmerizing and immersive medieval🏰🐺💪🐎🗡 novel of the continuing saga of the de Wolfe pack descendants. Easily read as a stand alone book. Extremely Well written as always!
BattleWolfe is book sixteen in Kathryn LeVeques series De Wolfe Pack. Warwick, the bastard son of William deWolfe and Annaleigh, Gemma Scott's cousin, meet under some serious conditions. The coming re-meeting and love story to come is an excellent one. I have enjoyed the Love Story of War and Annaleigh.
So so happy to be reading about my favorite family again! William and Jordan, Kieran and Jemma and all the children, how does this author keep these characters going strong all these years, it's amazing. Patiently waiting for the next book release... Thanks for keeping this reader happy 😉
