Princess Frida Acciai is merely a human. When her father dies, she becomes the ruler of the highly coveted Kingdom of Kaviel.

Enemies close in from all sides—humans who ride on dragons, elves, berserkers, and more.

In a desperate bid for allies, now Queen Frida must turn to the undines, the trolls, and the dwarves in the hope that at least one of them will accept her offer.

The battle among the crowns has only just begun, and to say that Queen Frida is at a disadvantage is not an understatement at all. It will take far more than valor for her kingdom to not fall, but so long as she has breath in her lungs, Frida will never stop fighting.

Valor is the first installment in author N.M Zoltack's Battle Among Crowns series. Before the Kingdoms formed into divided nations, humans and shapeshifters lived and intermingled in peace. Then a wolf nearly killed a human baby and war broke out. This story revolves around Princess Frida Acciai of Kaviel who is descended from the survivors of the attack by shapeshifters. Frida will soon become Queen of Kaviel after her father, King Vito, dies unexpectedly after being forsaken by the Sacred Mother.

This book has many battle skirmishes and Queen Frida has a singular focus in saving Kaviel. One question though, why do the residents of Kaviel have Italian sounding names? I love Ms. Zoltack's other fantasy kingdom series, but found it difficult to relate strongly to Frida as much as I have done to others in her past books.
