The Chinese Instant Pot Cookbook includes a variety of recipes that have been adapted for the instant pot. These recipes are broken down into appetizers; stocks and soups; beef, lamb, and pork; poultry and seafood; and vegetables and rice. One of the things that is very helpful about this cookbook is that it breaks down the total time required for each recipe into prep time, any sauté time, time required for pressure build, actual pressure cook time, pressure release, and the total time for each recipe. This is especially helpful for those who are newer to using a pressure cooker and need that reminder to figure in time for the pressure to build up. The book includes a discussion of the common ingredients and flavors involved in Chinese cooking, as well as mention of ways to create gluten-free and soy-free alternatives for those with dietary restrictions. Several recipes are also specifically marked as being gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, or vegetarian. Many recipes also include variations to create vegan or vegetarian versions, flavor alternatives, or add rice or other ingredients. The author also includes prep and ingredient tips for certain recipes, such as which ingredients can be prepped ahead to save time, or how to select the best ribs or mushrooms for the recipe. All of these features make this cookbook a great option if you are looking for ways to add some Chinese style dishes to your menus while making use of your instant pot.
The Chinese Instant Pot Cookbook by Sharon Wong is a great collection of classic Chinese recipes adapted for the ease of the Instant Pot.
Ms Wong is an able and articulate writer, and her recipes are well curated and easy to follow. The book offers a terrific range of dishes ranging from comfort food to options for quick meals. Some background supports those newer to Chinese cooking while her precise instruction benefits every reader/cook.
Ms Wong’s familiarity with food allergies and sensitivities also mean the all recipes are nut free and also offer notes for gluten-free, soy-free, vegetarian, and vegan options when appropriate. The Chinese Instant Pot Cookbook is a fantastic addition to every kitchen, bringing the flavors of Chinese cuisine to everyone’s tables.
The recipes sound delicious and I’ve bookmarked quite a number of them. About to go make congee now with your recipe- I’m like your kids, i like the thicket congee.
Would have given 5 stars if there was a picture with each recipe. The pics inspire me to make the food more than anything.
I got this book from my husband for Christmas, together with another book for Instapot recipes. Our family likes Chinese food, so I'm already looking forward to trying these recipes. A nice feat is that this book includes vegan and gluten-free options as well as variations of the original recipe, and the instructions are clear. Pictures would have been nice but are not a must in my opinion.
ZERO pictures! If I am going to be making a dish I have never made before, I want to make sure that it is done right. This book isn't helpful whatsoever in that regard. Don't read a cookbook with ZERO pictures!
