The battle had been won – but the war is far from over.
The Realm of Ulna has been liberated, and Blackrose sits upon her throne once again. Victory over the Banner forces has secured her rule, but opposition to Maddie, her foreign rider, continues to grow. With Unk Tannic agents infiltrating every corner of Dragon Eyre society, Maddie’s position is more fragile than she thinks.
On the other side of the world, Topaz is coming to terms with his new life in the service of the Five Sisters – the most notorious band of pirates sailing the seas of Dragon Eyre; while Sable Holdfast, severely injured in the battle to save Ulna, has finally found peace on a quiet, beautiful island with Badblood. She has turned her back on the world, but it hasn’t yet finished with her…

About Me
I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

Like every other Magelands book, there is plenty of action, character development, and intrigue. Christopher Mitchell only keeps getting at his art and every new book he writes, outshines the earlier ones. And this is no small feat since his early books are pretty great too.
The Dragon Eyre arc is easily the most complex, as far as plot, politics and intrigue are concerned. I got serious flashbacks to the early GoT books, you know, when they were good. Except instead of the Lannisters and Starks and others, we have dragons. And, Ashfall amps it up a notch, but sacrificing certain characters that one would never expect to do so.
When it comes to character development, Sable's journey is excellent. From her downfall at the end of Badblood, her journey back to being an avenging angel is fantastic to read.
People, who are looking for incredible stories, should definitely check out this series. Ashfall is its pinnacle (at least until the next book comes out)
I don't want to sound like a broken record but once again Christopher Mitchell delivers a top-notch fantasy book that kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters continue to develop and evolve as they grow and even though I should expect things to never turn out the way I think they will I'm still thrown for a loop when it happens. I am amazed and blown away by the amount of planning and plotting that goes into the worlds we see brought to life. Everything seems fresh and no ideas seem too far-fetched or out of place.
I highly recommend this author, in general, and this series start to present (because it's not finished yet). Do not come in looking for closure as I said it's not done yet, even though things may be wrapping up for some. It is important to read at least some of the previous books in this series to know what's going on, readers will be confused if they try to jump in here.
Ther is action, adventure and enough twists and turns happening that lovers of fantasy and adventure stories should love these books. If you are looking to strap in for a wonderful epic adventure that keeps you guessing then this series is one you should 100% pick up.
I received an advanced copy of this story from the author and am leaving my honest review, like all the others I will be purchasing it once it's published.
What It's About: Blackrose has resumed her rightful place in dragon society, with Maddie at her side. But not every dragon, or every rider, can accept their bond. The foreign Maddie, who doesn't understand dragon ways, finds enemies at every turn, until she is caught up in intrigue that threatens not just her bond with Blackrose but her very life.
What I Thought: This is far and away my favorite book in the series. Yes, it's about Blackrose and Maddie, and they're the best, but it's brilliant in so many other ways, too. Maddie comes into her own here, and we see how much she has grown up even aside from her relationship to Blackrose. Blackrose's loyalty to her is truly beautiful. Amazing new characters are introduced in the Five Sisters, an incredible quintet of pirates who come into Maddie's life in a truly jaw-dropping twist I didn't see coming. The plot really takes off here, and it works very well as an adventure sotry in its own right, while also building to what promises to be a great conclusion.
Who Should Read It: Everyone. This is one of those stories that makes you want to say, "yeah, just go ahead and read the 10 preceding novels so you can get to this one. It's that good." And it is.
I’m disappointed that Austin didn’t use his flow powers to kill Splendoursun during the dragon battle after his gauntlets were removed.
Would somebody please smack down Ahi’edo! Shadowblaze deserves a rider who has a brain.
Much like life, HEAs are few and far between. The good guys are sometimes defeated. I enjoy the complexity of this series and the depth of character development.
Blackrose still doesn’t seem like a well rounded leader to me. Is her single minded pursuit to find Maddie in the best interest of her subjects, especially when it causes death to some?
I don’t think Maddie has ever been referred to as beautiful before so there’s that. Has she found romance at last?
I’m really enjoying the Five Sisters. Good on Sable for her triumph over an Ascendant.
Dragon Eyre Ashfall: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Eternal Siege Book 11), my fifteenth read from prolific author Christopher Mitchell. When I want to read epic fantasy I first look for author Christopher Mitchell. With 23 books written over 3 series, I need to get going & read more Christopher Mitchell books. I look forward to reading more from this author. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Absolutely Blown Away - Can it Get Any Better? Wow, what a book, I love my science fiction and fantasy and I would say that this is possibly the best series I have ever read. You will laugh, you will cry, you will be invested in the characters, you will have to take time off from work, family and life as you will not be able to put the book down. This will give you your latest fix until Dragon Eyre Blackrose comes out. Amazing characters who you fall in love with and you want to know what is happening with them as they become a part of your life.
Another great read from Christopher Mitchell. I'm not sure there's anyone else quite so prolific currently writing at this consistently high level. I was finished within 2 days and it's fair to say it ate into my sleeptime a lot. If you like fast paced adventure, magic, dragons, swords, plus heroes with faults as well bad guys who can find redemption, this book has it all.
Drew me in further, introduced new characters (some of whom I really disliked!), and further developed the relationships between others. A couple times I had to stop reading in shock - "no! That couldn't have happened! " Can't wait to read the next book & see what happens!
This servers has ton be one of the best I’ve ever read… from meeting some at the beginning and midpoint to the end, loosing one bring tears has they are as though real. A writing style not perfectly scripted but ebbing and flowing is awesome. Thank you Christopher!
It was a good read, as with the rest of the series so far, but I can't get over one big mistake with how the quadrants work. When Austin used the quadrant to return from Implacatus, it should have taken him to where it was last used, which was a few yards above the water.
This was the book I was waiting for! The world building was great, as usual. The story at s of the characters were fantastic as well. As always, Mr. Mitchell took us on an epic journey with many twists and turns. I'm excited for the next book! Thank you!
Another awesome addition to the series. I was sad of the passings of some of the great characters I began to like but learn that anything could happen or anyone can die in this series.
Christopher knows how to suck you into a book and keep you there. I can’t believe how easy it was to read this one. Yea, it had slower travel moments but when action happens, it happens fast. Many unexpected moments here that leave you wanting more.
Lots of interesting plots in this book. A couple of the previous books were speed read by me but this storyline made me read every word. Looking forward to reading the next one.
Would recommend to any fantasy readers, the story didn't sloe down through any of the books and I read them all in no time. Can't wait for the next book!
Absolutely amazing. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action. I look forward to the next one. War and the death of gods n dragons.
I received an advance copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. Christopher Mitchell does it again! Action, adventure, great story and outstanding characters! This writer continues to get better and better. I have read a lot of series books including multiple long series and this is by far the very best long series I have ever read. I am desperate for the next installment!!
