When the British government approaches the Global Corporation about stemming the flow of human trafficking across the globe, Hank Jones turns to Mary Thurston to form a team right for the job. What she pieces together is a group of misfits—no longer wanted by anyone else—with talent to burn.
Led by disgraced German Intelligence officer Anja Meyer and SAS reject Jacob Hawk, the team is autonomous, utilizing the full force of the Global Corporation and its resources as they trek across different continents in pursuit of their elusive foe—a worldwide phenomenon called Medusa.
Terrific start to the new Team Reaper spin-off series. Author Brent Towns has assembled a new team of international operators to take down Medusa, a powerful human trafficking network with global reach. The frenetic action stretches from Europe to Mexico to Russia as the team targets a variety of scumbags. Jacob Hawk and Anja Meyer are strong protagonists to carry the series, and the ending suggests we haven't seen the last of Medusa. I can't wait for the next one. If you're new to this author, this is a perfect place to start without needing to have read any of the numerous Reaper books.
A Russian master criminal is making a fortune human trafficking, among other things. A handler who lost her team has to recruit another squad to take him down.
A fun and entertaining start to a Team Reaper spin-off series. Lots of action and characters to love as usual in Brent Towns' novels. Hawk and Ilse are my favorites so far. Looking forward to the next one.
Talon, though a fictional group performs the kind of service that is sorely needed worldwide. The despicable beings who perpetrate so much of the evil that exists in today's world are a pox on those who would, and do, dedicate themselves to making our lives better. As for this book, the goals that were those of Team Reaper are being advanced from a different locale but by a very similar fighting force, Talon. The action as written by Brent Towns is exciting, fast-paced and enough to keep you glued to your seat. The scenarios are real world, though maybe a little over the top and a tad fantastical but still within the realm of possibility. Talon read almost (it seemed) as though a novella but with full development as a full novel. I know you're wanting a full disclosure but my point here is a review, not a synopsis. Read it, it's really good!
Non stop action from beginning to end . Interesting characters and up to date themes. Could believe Anya and Jake acting behind the scenes today.Bring on next round.
This was a great read! I was surprised by how much I loved Hawk's attitude he doesn't take bull from anyone. I have to wonder what will happen when Hawk meets Reaper. Keep writing this is what we like.
I'm not the biggest fan of Brent Towns "Reaper" series, mostly because it feels like an action series for the Call of Duty set, but I liked his writing well enough to pick up the first in the Talon series, because the premise sounded fun.
Imagine my initial disappointment when it turned out to be a spin-off from Reaper with some of the same characters and, at first, a very similar set up. I felt like I was watching a mediocre TV crime drama, not a big budget action extravaganza.
But once we finished introducing the team and dropped the spin-off baggage, this novel started to pick up.
The plot involves a super secret team of highly motivated ass-kickers (think a DTV version of Phoenix Force) going after an absurdly wealthy white slavery ring called Medusa. We have all the usual hero types, from the gruff American Marine, to the other three soldier types who get names but no personality, to the stoic female team leader, to our hero, Jake Hawk, a snarky Brit with a massive chip on his shoulder. And our "quirky" computer expert who hacks by slapping the keyboard like it is a grand piano.
I get that we don't read these for the deep characters and plot, and fortunately author Brent Towns gets that as well. He packs each chapter with a maximum of action, with exploding cars, constant shootouts, and tons of faceless enemy mooks getting mowed down. The danger feels intense, with characters getting the snot beat out of them and no guarantee that everyone makes it out alive.
The book doesn't really play up the vigilante aspect of the team, which is a shame, as they supposedly operate outside the law. But it's hard to focus on those details when there's just so much carnage being delivered.
The highlight is the rescue of one of the girls from an auction in Brazil where Hawk has to infiltrate and exfiltrate with no support. It was exciting and a splendid setpiece.
My only real disappointment is in the inconsistent use of military-lingo. They use the callsign Bravo One when referring to our lead character over comms...except when they just forget and call him Jake. It feels silly because of its poor application, as if it were jammed into the book just because it was expected, not because it was needed.
Still, that's a tiny complaint.
Ever since the end of the Bolanverse novels, I've looked for something to fill the void. This is the closest I've yet come. I'll definitely be checking out the rest of the series.
This being the first bk in the series I realized it was gonna take me a while to get used to the new cast of character and there place in this series. At first I was not really to excited about the way the story was played out. Everything seemed kind of rushed. From place to place, event to event it just seemed to move a little bit to quickly to me. And by doing so started to make me loose interest and hold my attention. But as I got towards the end of the book, things started to come together. The characters began to emerge as to where they belonged, the story slowed down some and I began to enjoy this book. I will purchase book two just to see if Want to continue with the series. I can always go back to REAPER!
Non stop action. Bombs, grenades, gunfire, military tanks, multiple countries, human trafficking and secret organizations. This story is non stop action. The team is newly formed and made up of some crazy skilled people who are also misfits with taking orders or not a fan of their previous commanders. It is a good group with well developed personalities and chemistry. The ending ends with a bit of a cliffhanger and I for one hope to see more of this team and their mission!
I just finished the book and I am floored with this post-Reaper new series. It has the danger, action, and gun battles to which we Reaper-readers are accustomed.
And Towns has introduced an international group of freedom fighters also reporting to Reaper Commander, General Mary Thurston. This bit of information lets you know this is going to be a great series.
Hey, jump in and get excited about this book. You won't regret it!
Action is relentless…fast and ferocious! No boring repetition of storyline, no boring descriptions of room decor or badass couture, no meaningless dialogue, or inane childhood flashbacks…ALL a waste of time page filler…BT gives his readers great unadulterated “in-your-face, good to go, high voltage”…ACTION!…LOVE IT! BT!!! However, how about adding some tasteful love scenes to the mix? Craving a James Bond scenario.
This is a good book, with action on top of action. There isn’t a loss of action for any character. The characters are well developed and will develop more with each book. If the story line in the book has any truth in it, the world is worse off than you think. The author does a good job of putting the story together and using the characters to push it along. Read and enjoy.
In today's wore we could use a few of these teams to go to the dens and send them to special containment farms. Mr Towns puts things in place and he keeps the mission in gear and his followers don't miss a page and I'm looking forward to the next mission to right some terrible wrongs commented, .
This book was a lot of fun to read. I know in all of instances where they were screwed by either their government for not following order or for the simple fact that B.S. rolls down hill. This new team is it. Although I felt for my computer techie who lost his life but he knew when he wasn't equipped and wasn't afraid to admit it. They are all bad$$es to their own right one way or another.
From page 1, the action starts and doesn't let up!! Medusa, a sex trafficking cartel is being sought by a new team....Talon....and they don't give up!! From England, Germany, to Belarus, the Talon team pursues Media wherever its found, and does the job!! Read this first book, you won't be disappointed!!
This story line is off to a good start I am eagerly awaiting a sequel to have more fleshing out of the principal characters and their globe trotting war against human trafficking. I especially enjoyed the bad boy attitude of Hawk, the stoic no nonsense charm of his boss and her second in command
Finding the best rejects from Military Activity and putting them together to make a Top Response Team is the makings of a fast read, can’t wait for the next page
If you have read any of the Reaper Team books and enjoyed those, you'll enjoy these. However if you have read the Reaper teams, you may find this just more of the same thing The team dynamics are different, the primary character, not being the team lead.
This book takes you into the darkest areas of the world. Human trafficking. International assaults and operations abound. Waiting for the saga to continue.
Good book with several plots that the hero has to work through. The characters are well defined and all contribute to the whole story line. The hero is always backed up by his team when needed.
Well put together with really good character descriptions and background stories about the personal and their driving motivations. Also it is good to see the story that doesn’t write it where the Heroes walk through a hail of bullets without a scratch.
I can’t quite put my finger on why I didn’t like this story. Maybe it’s the dialogue or that I simply could not get into the plot nor come to care about the characters. I will not be reading the rest of the series.
Good action all the way through. I could not wait to read the next page. I read it in one day. I would recommend any action fan to read this book. I can not wait to read the next one in the series.
This was a new author for me but I really enjoyed all of the non stop action. I like the characters and have already downloaded book two, Talon Justice. A big thank you to the author Brent Towers and from a well deserved 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
Awesome book. Interesting storyline which kept me hooked and wanting more. Great start to a new series. I am looking forward to the next in the series.
