Ce recueil accessible à toutes et tous, propose une sélection de lettres où Rosa Luxemburg aborde des sujets très variés, toujours attentive au monde qui l’entoure, aux souffrances, aux événements qu’elle observe, et surtout gardant toujours l’espoir d’une révolution qui amènerait un monde meilleur. Elle voulait « vivre pleinement », et elle souhaitait changer la société afin que chacun·e puisse y vivre harmonieusement.

Rosa Luxemburg (1871-1919) est une célèbre militante révolutionnaire, née en Pologne puis naturalisée allemande, active pendant trois décennies dans le mouvement socialiste international, puis cofondatrice du Parti communiste d’Allemagne peu avant d’être assassinée par des paramilitaires.

Rosa Luxemburg (Rosalia Luxemburg, Polish: Róża Luksemburg) was a Marxist theorist, philosopher, economist and activist of Polish Jewish descent who became a naturalized German citizen. She was successively a member of the Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania, the Social Democratic Party of Germany(SPD), the Independent Social Democratic Party and the Communist Party of Germany.

In 1915, after the SPD supported German involvement in World War I, she co-founded, with Karl Liebknecht, the anti-war Spartakusbund (Spartacist League). On 1 January 1919 the Spartacist League became the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). In November 1918, during the German Revolution she founded the Die Rote Fahne (The Red Flag), the central organ of the Spartacist movement.

She regarded the Spartacist uprising of January 1919 in Berlin as a blunder, but supported it after Liebknecht ordered it without her knowledge. When the revolt was crushed by the social democrat government and the Freikorps (WWI veterans defending the Weimar Republic), Luxemburg, Liebknecht and some of their supporters were captured and murdered. Luxemburg was drowned in the Landwehr Canal in Berlin. After their deaths, Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht became martyrs for Marxists. According to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, commemoration of Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht continues to play an important role among the German far-left.

« Sur ma tombe, comme dans ma vie, il n'y aura pas de phrase grandiloquente. Sur la dalle de mon tombeau, on ne devra lire que deux syllabes : “zwi-zwi ” C'est le cri des mésanges charbonnières que j'imite si bien qu'elles accourent aussitôt. Et imaginez que dans ce zwi-zwi qui d'habitude brillait comme une aiguille d'acier et rendait un son très clair et très grêle, il y a depuis quelques jours un trille tout à fait menu, une minuscule note de poitrine. [...] C'est le premier léger mouvement du printemps à venir : malgré la neige, le froid et la solitude, nous croyons, les mésanges charbonnières et moi, à la venue du printemps ! Et si, par trop d'impatience, il ne devait pas m'être donné de vivre ce printemps, n'oubliez pas que sur la dalle de ma tombe on ne doit lire rien d'autre que “zwi-zwi”... » 🥹💕

Pas son livre le plus politique (car c’est plus qu’une amatrice de botanique) mais très très émouvant et instructif sur l’expérience de la lutte pour le communisme dans un monde pré-fasciste.
même en prison et dans l’horreur permanente jusqu’à son assassinat par les socialistes, elle garde espoir d’une société libérée de l’exploitation et des oppressions.
