Eileen Wilks’ first book, a Silhouette Desire published in 1996, hit the USA Today Bestseller List and was nominated for Romantic Times' Best First Short Contemporary award. Since then, her books have appeared consistently on national bestseller lists. With thirty two books in print and novellas in nine anthologies, she has been a finalist in the prestigious Rita Awards three times, as well as receiving several nominations from Romantic Times, including one for Career Achievement in Series Romantic Suspense.

Each book in her World of the Lupi series gains a larger audience. It was originally sold in the Romance section of bookstores, but more and more you will be able to find copies cross-shelved under Sci-Fi and Fantasy as the popularity of the series grows!

Eileen has lived in the West Texas town of Midland, TX for over 30 years--three years as a young teen, and the remaining years since she moved back here as an adult. When she first started writing over 10 years ago, it hit her like the first drink for an alcoholic . . . or the first kiss for Romeo and Juliet.

She came to writing romance in a roundabout way. Having read and loved science fiction for years, that’s where she first tried her hand when the writing bug bit. Somehow her stories always ended up having a strong romantic subplot, but she hadn’t read a romance since the early 80’s and didn’t think “those little books” were her kind of stories. But when a friend in her critique group began working on a romance novel, Wilks decided she needed to give the genre another try. She asked her friend to recommend some titles--and quicker than you can say “Jayne Ann Krentz,” she fell in love. The genre had been busy growing up while she wasn’t watching. These days, with romances comprising over 50% of the mass market books published in the U.S., there are romances to appeal to almost every taste--historicals, paranormals and contemporaries that range from romantic suspense to romantic comedy, from inspirational to sizzling.

Eileen covered a lot of territory before coming home to Midland, having lived in Canada and Venezuela as well as twelve U.S. cities in five states.

This book was pretty good for a "harlequin" type book. I enjoyed it and hope there are other books on the other brothers.

I've read this author in the past and as far as I can recall my impression was pretty average. So, I pretty much tempered my expectations going into this and ended up really enjoying it. Our uber successful hero and his brothers adore their housekeeper who is sick and needs experimental and expensive treatment. So, all three brothers need to marry to break their marriage-obsessed father's trust. Our heroine is temporarily filling in at the hero's work-place. Our heroine is pretty gun-shy having been young and falling for a man who turned out to be mentally sick and obsessed with her and her being branded as the femme-fatale by his parents. She is obviously wary of any involvement. I felt the attraction between the h/H moved along at a great pace and even her reaction to his avowal of love was all because how her past had shaped her. All in all the author did a great job of convincing me that the couple had followed in love so quickly.

The 50 pages less that this book has in comparison with the Her Lord Protector (which was a Silhouette Intimate Moments) really make a difference between showing and telling. Developments in time have to be talked about instead of being experienced. Wilks still shows her character skills though, with Ada and Jacob's personal secretary/fitness trainer.

The interaction between Jacob and Claire is the focus (his two brothers show up because they are the heroes of the other two books in the series, but only very shortly) and there's some description spent on the old-fashioned house. I love some of Claire's thoughts about her odd surroundings, the sensitive (though too short) way that her past trauma is handled, the fact that she and Jacob realise through talking (!) that they share certain experiences in their past - also the realistic way that Claire freezes when her innermost wish is granted, due to her trauma (Trigger warning:). Another plus: her personal angst shared just as much of a spotlight as his personal angst - very often only the male gets to really develop that in romance, I feel.

I didn't like that Jacob is written to fall in love with her before he has even had a clear look at her! *eyeroll* But - as seems a core concern for Wilks - family and the care for family and the desire for family (not necessarily children, mind, just the deep connection to people) - in the shape of Claire's best friend (lovely character interaction there) or Jacob's housekeeper/surrogate mother - are always at the center of the protagonists' emotions.

easy, fun, light afternoon read. The 3 West boys are bound by a trustfund they wouldn't receive their full heritage until they marry. When the woman who raised them gets sick and needs money fro a special treatment, the boys rush to get married. For Jacob, the one he chooses might actually be his match.
