This book is a hidden gem! It was such an unexpected surprise how much I loved it. Erika Vanzin is a master of slow-burn toe-curling romance! A heartwarming yet spicy read that kept me up at night!
Lilly is reserved girl with a traumatizing past that has serious skills as a musician/singer. She plays in small gigs with her band of close friends who are trying to make it in the music world. One of my favorite elements of the story is that the author normalizes mental health issues; Lilly has psychological traumas related to obesity and bullying during her teen years. She is terrified of being in the spotlight for fear of being exposed and criticized.
In comes the Jailbirds, the most famous rock band in the world. Damian, the lead singer, is a sex-god! He can have all the women he wants with his fame and incredibly good looks, he never settles down. He has his own share of past traumas that he fears will define his future. When Lilly's band wins the competition to be the opening-band in the Jailbird's tour stars collide!
The chemistry between Lilly and Damian is palpable! They start off with lots of bickering and angst, at the same time they can't keep their hands off each other! They come to support each other in their traumas and soon realize that this might be more than just attraction. This book gave me all the feels and I found myself rooting for these two with all my heart. I can't wait to dig in to Paparazzi the next book in this series!

With her, I just need to put a smile on her lips to feel like I’ve conquered heaven.
Backstage is the enemies to lovers story of Damian and Lilly. Lilly and her misfit bandmates win a contest earning them the coveted opening act spot for Jailbirds, Damian’s famous rock band. Though they pretend to dislike each other, both Lilly and Damian have a hard time denying the magnetic pull they have towards each other. And let’s not even mention the crazy chemistry they have when they sing together.
And you can imagine where it goes from there 😍 Definitely steamy, and definitely such a fun story. It’s on Kindle Unlimited so I highly recommend checking it out!

It's my first time reading a book about bands! I was intrigued! Especially since the guy on the cover looks like my celebrity crush, Momoa *insert heart eyes here*. I love a good romance story!
Paparazzi is the story of Lilly and Damian, both have been through so much in their young life. Lilly has struggled with trauma, especially obesity and bullying (please note this as a trigger warning). Throughout her insecurities she works her way to accepting herself and crawling out of a world where she has been shamed for being who she is. For me, I will admit it was a bit tough to relive my own experience as a recovered bulimic, but reading Paparazzi made me connect with Lilly so much because of what I've been through. I loved that the author incorporated issues we see in society, making Lilly a relatable character. She creates a MC that uses her inner demons for power and pushes through the obstacles. Lilly's growth kept me intrigued. I felt connected with her!
Lilly aspires to be a big time musician, This is where Damian comes in, he also deals with his share of demons. Being a big rock star can cause its share of stress, especially when your life is in the spotlight always. I enjoyed the friendships, they were super supportive with each other.
The plot was steady. The romance was a slow burn but I love diving into the trope occassionally. Contemporaries arent my go to but I enjoyed Lilly and Damian's growth and connection. They definitely compliment each other! I am excited to read the next book in the Roadie Series.

Dico subito che ho adorato Lilly e Damian fin dalle prime battute.
Sono l'esempio più lampante dei poli opposti che si attraggono e una volta uniti fanno scintille.
L'autrice ha unito sapientemente i tanti elementi presenti in questo libro che è sì un music romance, ma affronta tematiche delicate in cui, purtroppo, non posso addentrarmi per non fare spoiler.
La musica è la vita per entrambi i protagonisti ed è grazie a questa che hanno ritrovato il loro posto nel mondo. Prevedibile lo svolgimento della storia, ma come dico sempre: è il percorso che l'autore fa fare ai personaggi a rendere interessante un libro. Erika ha dato a entrambi un passato impegnativo e ce lo fa svelare lentamente attraverso le rivelazioni che si fanno.
Interessanti i rapporti interpersonali che personaggi e protagonisti hanno a dimostrazione che l'amicizia è un sentimento forte, capace di sostenere, rincuorare e far ragionare quando ce n'è bisogno.
Un urlo contro le ingiustizie, una luce che porta allo scoperto le piaghe della società odierna e dell'animo umano.
Sono stata completamente coinvolta dalla storia e non posso far altro che consigliarvene la lettura.

April 5, 2023DNF AT 20%. Interesting premise, terrible execution. The fmc is over the top ridiculous. Her band makes the cut to travel with the band, and immediately becomes a victim, starts sharing her bullying stories. I got second hand embarrassment for everyone in that room.

Buongiorno Fenici, ho letto il primo volume della Roadies Series ed ecco cosa ne penso. Come si intuisce dal titolo, si tratta di un classico music romance, ma senza niente di speciale.
Per quanto riguarda la trama, ho trovato elementi di novità nelle storie personali dei protagonisti e nei motivi che li hanno portati dove sono e che giustificano l’intreccio. Ma non ho amato molto le caratterizzazioni.
Damian è il tipico bad boy e ricalca il classico sviluppo già visto in migliaia di altri romance, quello di un playboy che improvvisamente si innamora e che sul finale si scioglie mettendo a nudo il suo animo tenero, con il risultato di cambiare totalmente personalità e tempra.
La trama è incentrata sul suo percorso di crescita al termine del quale accetta la sua vulnerabilità, riconoscendo di non essere davvero “cattivo”, concedendosi quindi di essere amato.
Lilly è una protagonista che non ho apprezzato quasi per niente. Incarna la donna perfetta: superba, autonoma e decisa, grintosa, pur essendo dentro di sé estremante vulnerabile e piagnona. Ha sfaccettature controverse e una personalità volubile. Da un lato è traumatizzata da un episodio che la rende fragile, paurosa e con attacchi d’ansia; nello stesso tempo vuole incarnare il personaggio determinato e grintoso molto rock, autonomo e combattivo quando viene attaccata. Al di là del fatto che la storia la porti ad affrontare le sue paure, non ho apprezzato un grande sviluppo del personaggio: non eccelle in dimostrazioni d’amore, in particolare quando, nel momento cruciale della storia, non riesce a fidarsi ciecamente della persona che ama e della sua morale.
«Tu non hai bisogno di un principe azzurro, fidati. In tutto il contesto di una fiaba, saresti sicuramente il drago scassa palle che protegge la torre della principessa. Passi la tua vita a dare del filo da torcere a chiunque non ritieni degno della tua presenza. Una spina nel fianco per qualsiasi principe voglia anche solo avvicinarsi a quella torre. Sei quella da ammazzare, non da salvare.»

Se posso dirlo in modo brutale, l’ho trovata la classica storia in cui lei pensa di essere troppo preziosa per concedersi a lui, e lo lascia cuocere a fuoco lento fino alla nausea, negandogli il sesso per buona parte del romanzo, per poi cedere di punto in bianco senza particolare motivo. A quel punto inizia anche una serie di tira e molla dovuti a errori di Damian, non abituato a gestire una relazione. Lilly non fa mai un passo nella sua direzione; si aspetta che sia lui a trasformarsi da cattivo a bravo ragazzo, continuando ad andarla a cercare, conquistare, riprendere. E proprio sul finale, lei avrebbe potuto fare, finalmente, un piccolo gesto per scendere dal piedistallo e mettersi in gioco a sua volta ma non lo fa, non in modo determinato, per lo meno.
Nelle storie di questo genere, ambientate nei roadies (camper per concerti), mi aspetto di trovare un romanzo corale, ma sono rimasta delusa. I personaggi primari (Damian e Lilly) e i comprimari (Luke e Thomas, i migliori amici) sono ben caratterizzati e approfonditi, mentre gli altri musicisti delle due band rimangono sullo sfondo, sono appena abbozzati e per lo più compaiono in blocco.
Se l’elemento corale non è pregnante, è invece inserita molto bene la problematica legata alla fama, la difficoltà di mantenere distinta vita pubblica e privata: il disturbo creato da stampa, gossip, blogger, social che si inseriscono e si frappongono in una relazione che ancora sta cercando di nascere e consolidarsi.
Lo stile è una prima persona abbondante alternata, con un eccesso di pensieri, aggettivi e avverbi. Frasi insomma non troppo pulite e quindi, a mio avviso, poco scorrevoli. L’abbondanza di riflessioni e il ribadire più volte gli stessi concetti rende prolisso qualsiasi sviluppo.
Nel complesso è un libro molto piccante, in particolare di passione immaginata perché, soprattutto nella prima parte, questa non viene esercitata. Ed è anche molto romantico, dato che il desiderio è fisico ma anche mentale ed emotivo.
«Devo dire che è stato… intenso.» La voce di Luke mi fa distogliere lo sguardo dal palco dove Damian sta continuando lo spettacolo. «Davvero?» la mia voce tremante tradisce la volontà di apparire distaccata. Luke alza un sopracciglio facendomi capire che non crede al mio atteggiamento ingenuo. «Le ondate di testosterone da quel palco mi hanno quasi spinto a terra.»
«Esagerato, era solo per fare spettacolo.» «Lil, se il sesso potesse marchiare il possesso di una persona, tu adesso avresti “Damian” stampato su una chiappa» ride divertito.

Say hello to my new fluffy blanket book!
I’m not usually a contemporary reader, but I was craving something lighter after intense fantasy reads and battling the drafting of a high fantasy sequel. Add to that my current Måneskin obsession and you have a perfect alignment of lucky stars.
BACKSTAGE was exactly what I was looking for. For a contemporary story to draw me in, I need to feel an instant chemistry with the characters, and I did with Damian, the lead singer of the Jailbirds. He was exactly the rockstar I was craving: handsome, haunted, rebellious. I lost count of how many times his “no bullshit” attitude made me snort just in the first few pages of the book. Sounds like the perfect book boyfriend, right? Well, you can’t have him. I licked him, he’s mine. With our lead female, Lilly, I needed a bit more time, not because she wasn’t well-written, but because her personality is completely opposite from mine. She’s reserved and full of insecurities, and sometimes I wanted to grab her and give her a pep talk. However, the more we get to know Lilly, the more we discover about her past and the traumas she’s survived. Her character gave the author the chance to explore many real issues: bullying, eating disorders, panic attacks, phobias. I thought all the topics were handled very well and with a realistic lens, so in the end I became super protective of Lilly, and super supportive of the fire that being around Damian brings out in her.
The romance reigned supreme. I loved Damian and Lilly’s interactions from the very beginning. They couldn’t be more different, and yet their banter made me smile, laugh and squeal like a school girl from the get go. I kid you not, I’ve clutched the book and called it my “fluffy blanket” so many times! Their relationship is a delicious slow-burn from strangers to friends to more. Was I eager to see them get together? Yes, I was! But I appreciate that the author took her time to get us there and showed us the good and the bad moments of a relationship, and not just the sweet and sexy, which is still very much appreciated.
Another highlight for me was the friendships. Though the main focus were Lilly and Damian, the secondary characters got enough page time to make me love them all, which is a good thing considering the fact that each book in the series will follow a different band member. As for world-building, it’s obviously not as big of a deal as a fantasy, but I’m not an expert of the music industry, and I appreciated the glimpse into something new.
As you can see, I loved this book! There were some instances of miscommunication in the second half that made me a bit frustrated, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars and not 5, but I still have high sugar levels in my blood from all my feels for the ending. I can’t wait to be back with these disaster children in Paparazzi!

Though the main focus were Lilly and Damian, the secondary characters got enough page time to make me love them all, which is a good thing considering the fact that each book in the series will follow a different band member. As for world-building, it’s obviously not as big of a deal as a fantasy, but I’m not an expert of the music industry, and I appreciated the glimpse into something new.
As you can see, I loved this book! There were some instances of miscommunication in the second half that made me a bit frustrated, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars and not 5, but I still have high sugar levels in my blood from all my feels for the ending. I can’t wait to be back with these disaster children in Paparazzi!

This is one time that the saying Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover should apply
By appearances this should have been a really interesting rockstar book but 70 pages in it is definitely something else.
Due to bad behavior by the lead singer of the successful group the Jailbirds, the record company forces them to hold a contest in which an unknown band records a video of a Jailbirds hit song and the winner gets to open for them on their upcoming US tour.
So far OK
The winner is a band with a female bass player that doesn’t want to win and the reason is she was weight shamed five years before on instagram by the popular guy at school.

But the guys in her band are soo excited so she suggests they replace her, but noooo because the Jailbirds are amazed at her playing annnd she sings, even though her band’s lead singer Lucas has done all the singing up to that point. Damien, the bad behavior lead singer wants nothing to do with the will she won’t she sign the contract basically saying he could care less. At that point Lillie grows a pair and gets in his face, as I tried to continue I come across the part where they hire a stylist for her ( she had her weight under control and lost a lot) and because of her pouch belly and thighs that are meeting in the middle she rather wear sweatshirts or hoodies 2x her size. The press calls her out. Lucas who has dealt with this for years had to console her, Damien is finding her sexy and beautiful and has a semi anytime they are in the same room, she’s internally lusting after Damien.
At this point it becomes very clear that this character needed validation by the lead singer of a famous band, where friends and band members whose been around this for years weren’t enough, let alone having any faith in herself.
I do not need to read a book that IMO does more harm than good about a serious issue of weight shaming and bullying, she’s looking at food mentioned in the book as her enemy when both bands are telling her she has to have meals that will help her endurance on stage, the whole thing is sending the wrong message.

If you’re in the market for a sexy slowburn standalone complete with a rollercoaser plot (who isn’t?!), then this book is the total package! In a nutshell, Backstage is a sweet-and-spicy love story paired with a harrowing rockstar romance between two individuals overcoming their separate traumas. It’s got all the A Star is Born vibes with a happily ever after ending, and I am SO here for it!
Immediately the cover of this one drew me in with that intense and gorgeous rockstar showing off his skills. But in truth this book is so much more than a hot guitar-wielding dude on the front! I totally did not expect to journey with a pair of lovers who are navigating their love amongst the horrors of their past (trigger warnings: eating disorders, anxiety, and domestic abuse). This turned out to be a rich tale of music, love, forgiveness, and self love!
It’s the kind of book I feel like is so masterfully plotted and vividly crafted that it would make for an excellent film adaptation! I cannot wait to see what’s in store in the next installments of the Roadie series!!

While a teenager Lilly had to deal with body shaming and bullying which can tear even the strongest people down. It was with the help of some friends that she went on to become a rock star and was now going on tour. Would all of this be too much with all she has endured in the past? Damian was also a rock star and lived the hard partying rocker ways. Even though so very different they were pulled towards one another and became friends with benefits. Just who would survive this seeing as to how both of them were so very damaged each in their own way?
This was my first time reading this author and I would definitely give her upcoming rocker books a read once again.

The chemistry between Lilly and Damian is just so wonderful!
It's impossible not to relate to Lilly, a girl who just like all of us fights a sense of inadequacy but finds her way to shine.
And don t let me start with Damian..There's a beautiful man under that body of a true bad boy who steadly faces his demons but lets us see a bit at a time a glimpse of his heart.
Finally a book that makes us smile, excite and go back dreaming reliving the excitement of a concert.

Ho avuto la possibilità di leggere questo libro in anteprima e devo dire che... è stato proprio il libro giusto al momento giusto. Ho passato un fine settimana a leggere senza staccarmi mai perché, anche se più o meno immaginavo come andasse a finire la storia, volevo scoprire il modo in cui l'autrice riannodava tutti i fili della trama. Mi sono piaciute soprattutto le storie personali dei due protagonisti, quelle che spiegano a fondo il loro carattere e le loro scelte di vita: le ho trovate originali e avrei anche voluto che se ne parlasse più a fondo, ma capisco che, probabilmente, la storia avrebbe perso il ritmo. Brava comunque l'autrice, sicuramente ne leggerò altri!

I won this book through Goodreads Giveaways. The blurb sounded pretty good and I was excited to read it.
Unfortunately this one fell flat. It was extremely repetitive and also contradicted itself quite a bit.
You have a main character that goes from being so fearful and insecure of everything she is almost unable to live a normal life.. to miraculously overcoming said fears. You have another character that transforms from typical asshole rock star to babysitter/caretaker, to bouncing back and forth between immature ass and stubborn idiot.
It was all just too much. I can see potential in the story, it just wasn't executed very well.

This book is the book I didn’t know I needed in my life. It swept me away into a world of fame and music from the very first pages. (Is this the life of my queen Taylor Swift?) By the time I was done, I felt like I missed my band mates…except I’ve never been in a band.
Damian was an excellent male lead. He’s a mix of the haunted soul I love reading about and the devastating, charming and elusive rock star I could see myself swooning over. Also, not only is he built like a god, but the way his singing voice is described sounds like heaven and sin combined. I need an album by the Jailbirds. Where do I need to sign to make this happen? Lilly, on the other hand, has an incredible talent, but she’s often guarded and insecure and for that reason she’s afraid to take risks, which made her very relatable. Yet she also has a feisty side which she pulls out around people she’s comfortable with, and I loved seeing both sides of her in her interactions with Damian because it gave us the opportunity to see a sweeter and playful side to Damian as well.
This leads me to the romance. Damian and Lilly were so adorable together! Some of my favorite moments were the ones where they rehearsed or sang duets. The descriptions were on point and it felt like I could hear them. I also enjoyed the moments of tension to the point where I was practically begging for something to happen. However, the pot slowed down a little more than halfway through the book because of some miscommunication or Damian thinking he doesn’t deserve to be happy. (Don’t you ever think that, my love!) In some cases, I wanted to shake either one or the other or both, and because of these moments my mind is telling me that my rating should be 4.5 stars, but my heart says no because the first half of the book and the ending were perfect! In the end, this is the way of romance novels. Drama is key!
Backstage is the first standalone novel in the Roadies series. The other books in the series will follow the other members of the Jailbirds. The next book is about Thomas, the drummer, which I’m very excited for because from what I saw of him as Damian’s best friend, he seems like husband goals. If my sister licked Damian, I’m licking Thomas. Mine!

How many times have we fantasized our favorite band members noticed us and fell in love? Or if we were given a chance to preform with our favorite band and slowly watch as our crush fell in love with you. Well, Vanzin took all of our teenage fantasies and made them into a reality with Backstage!

Lily is the our main female protagonist, who happens to be an extremely talented musician. However, there has always been something holding her back from the spotlight and that is her traumatic past. As much as she loves music, the thought of preforming with others in front of people, brings upon horrid anxiety. Even though music is her life, she is struggling to find a way to make that dream a reality, especially because being in the spotlight will lead to criticism.
Lily and her band soon get their chance at making it book when they win a music contest to open up for one of the hottest rock bands, the Jailbirds. Damian, the lead singer, is a rock god! Sexy and constantly in the spotlight. But he two is holding demons at bay and afraid that his past might resurface.
I love the tension between Lily and Damian and how their relationship progresses. It was also interesting to see how they grew as people, which is an important part in any relationship. And yes, the steam was there!
My only problem was some of the language used in regards to body images, specifically Lily. Her eating disorders and body type can definitely be triggering, so that was hard to read at times. However, it was still an enjoyable book with a fantastic cover!

Great story!
What a great story! I loved both Damien and Lilly. I really liked that this story delved into what it's like to live with anxiety and PTSD from a past trauma. It showed what Lilly was feeling but also ways of coping with it. I really felt for her but was happy to see her progressing and moving forward. I really liked Damien. He was a tortured hero who took a while to figure things out but he was willing to try. The story was interesting and emotional and held my attention through the whole book. I really enjoyed reading about all of the characters and getting a glimpse of the Rockstar life. It was a well done book, both in plot and also in the way it was written. I look forward to reading more from this author and would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a great rockstar romance!

La lettura mi ha presa fin da subito e mi ha catapultata nelle storie di Lilly e Damian, due persone molto diverse, la vita li ha messi alla prova e in modi differenti hanno cercato di reagire.....
La musica è la loro salvezza e tramite lei hanno saputo conoscersi e affrontare i loro limiti che li tenevano incatenti al passato.
Avrei voluto che il libro non finisse....Ora sono curiosa di leggere il prossimo e conoscere meglio anche gli altri protagonisti di questa storia.
Erika, sapevo che anche questo libro non mi avrebbe delusa, brava e grazie per ciò che scrivi....

Inizio dicendo che amo il genere music romance, poi questa storia è molto bella, scritta bene è strutturata in modo eccellente! Questo libro ti fa capire che rimanendo uniti tutto si può superare e anche che i sogni se si vogliono si possono sempre avverare!
Mi dispiace leggere su Amazon alcuni commenti negativi, come per esempio “che non sono riusciti a finirlo di leggere” “banale” “poco entusiasmante “ etc, io posso dire che non la penso proprio così, perché la storia è fresca leggera e scorrevole, anzi mi dispiace che questo genere alle volte non è molto trattato, perché almeno per quanto mi riguarda quando leggo questo genere mi sento come se fossi lì vicino al palco e come se percepissi dentro di me l’euforia di un concerto! Quindi non mi resta da dire che per me è un libro con 5 ⭐️!
Per quanto riguarda Erika posso dire che mi piace molto come scrive e come ti catapulta dentro la storia! È una brava autrice ma, anche una persona a modi, mi è anche capitato di fare due chiacchiere con lei via email, e quando comunque instauri un rapporto fuori dalla professione dalla lettura (come mi è capitato con altre autrici) percepisci anche la persona che sta dietro a questo lavoro! Per tanto nella mia libreria ci sarà sempre un posto per lei.

I enjoyed it but was a bit tame for my taste. Would recommend it if you like a more of a slow burn type of romance. Like the relationship that develops between Damian and Lilly throughout the book. There was a few characters which I thought might have had a bigger part in the book but unfortunately not. Overall 3/5 from me.

Bellissimo libro, ti fa immergere completamente nel mondo dei rock star facendoti riflettere su problemi che normalmente le persone comuni non si pongono. Ho amato soprattutto la protagonista una donna fragile ma con una forza sorprendente.

Have you ever took your time reading a book because you didn't want it to end? This was the one for me! I absolutely LOVED Damian and Lilly! This book gave me all the feels and more. Their love story and uncovering the trauma they both endured when they were younger truly touched me. The tension and the banter was definitely there and made me feel so many emotions. I've laughed, cried and swooned over Damian and Lilly's journey to each other and how they were both able to grow from their experiences. The Epilogue was the best part for me! Oggi vi parlerò dell'ultimo NA pubblicato da Erika Vanzin. Primo romanzo che leggo dell'autrice e la ringrazio per avermi fornito in anteprima la copia ARC.
Due band, una che canta nei grandi palchi, l'altra nei locali di quartiere. Sono "costretti" a vivere insieme per un tour, viaggiando in quei fantastici bus. Per saperne di più, clicca qui.
I Red Velvet Courtains, si fanno conoscere per la loro bravura ma dovranno lavorare sodo per migliorare altri aspetti e smussare alcuni problemi, come quello che ha Lilly.
"...il mio non è panico da palcoscenico, è una instabilità mentale ed emotiva che mi porta a cadere in una spirale autodistruttiva che mi ha quasi ammazzato a quindici anni. Super great read
Loved this book. Rockstar stories are one of my favorite reads. Both Lily and Damian are fantastic characters. I loved the back and forth between them. I also liked the sub stories behind each of them. It made them more real.
All of the secondary characters from both band are so likeable and I hope Erika writes a book about each of them in the future!
Highly recommend and will be reading more from this author.

Cosa ne pensate dei music romance?
Probabilmente sembrerò scontata ma la prima cosa che mi ha catturato di questo romanzo è stata la copertina, anche perché con i music romance ho un rapporto di amore e odio, in più… non sono un’amante del rosa, – del colore, almeno, per quanto riguarda il genere di lettura assolutamente sì, rosa tutta la vita – eppure da questa cover mi sono sentita attratta. Sarà stata per l’elettricità che emana, non lo so… ma venendo alla storia, mi sento di dire che Erika Vanzin ha scritto una piccola chicca. Nonostante il libro non conti poche pagine, l’ho letto in poco tempo e ho adorato tutto. Avendo finito la lettura, mi sento di dire che la sensazione dell’elettricità non è solo la copertina ad emanarla, ma lo sono proprio i protagonisti. Damian e Lilly sono magnetici in maniera impressionante e l’autrice è riuscita benissimo a descrivere il loro rapporto, le loro personalità non facili, i loro passati non proprio rose e fiori e lo ha fatto con calma, facendo accrescere nel lettore la voglia di saperne di più, non mostrando solo i risvolti positivi del loro lavoro. Per quanto possa sembrare stupido, mi è sembrato più volte di trovarmi a un loro concerto, ma nello stesso mi sono ritrovata risucchiata nel loro rapporto che ha affrontato alti e bassi per poi dare dimostranza dei loro sentimenti. Backstage non è una storia travagliata, è sicuramente intensa, dove vengono toccati argomenti importanti, ed è ben scritta ma soprattutto vi fa sembrare veramente di essere nel dietro le quinte delle loro vite da rockstar. Ottimo lavoro, davvero!

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls

Un viaggio nel mondo della musica e dei concerti live, lì dove noi fans non possiamo accedere, lì nel backstage dove si crea la magia. Dall’inizio alla fine si respira l’adrenalina che c'è dietro alla preparazione di uno show in cui tutti devono essere coordinati per far divertire il pubblico.
I Jailbirds sono la band del momento a New York, le ragazzine impazziscono solo a sentirli nominare e il cantante Damian fa girare la testa a tutti quanti, compresi i paparazzi visto che continua a far parlare di lui con numerosi scandali. In realtà questa volta non è proprio tutta colpa sua, in fondo lui era solo ubriaco e non ha avuto la prontezza di scansarsi da delle ragazzine che l’hanno baciato, lui voleva solo rifugiarsi nella sua stanza. All’apparenza è il classico ragazzo che flirta con tutte e vuole far credere di essere un don Giovanni, in realtà per mantenere la sua immagine e la sua reputazione agli occhi degli altri, si comporta in questo modo, ma il suo obiettivo finale è godersi ghiotte serate davanti alla tele a guardare netflix e mangiare schifezze nel suo super attico a Manhattan. Fortuna che gli altri componenti della band sono tipi tranquilli , ma è inevitabile finire tutti insieme nei guai. Liberamente costretti dal manager Evan, indicono un concorso in cui tutti loro saranno i giudici, dovranno scegliere la band di supporto che aprirà i loro concerti durante il tour. Un’occasione imperdibile a cui non si può certo mancare!!
La notizia ci mette poco a circolare e subito esalta il frontman di un’altra band, Luke è davvero al settimo cielo e non vuole farsi scappare questa occasione, ha solo un piccolo problema: deve dirlo a Lilly, la bassista dei Red Velvet Courtains, che è stata salvata dalla musica a cui lei si dedica con passione, ma ha un problema a esporsi in pubblico, quindi figuratevi a suonare davanti a migliaia di persone. Luke però la convince a registrare la demo, tanto non verranno mai scelti e invece superano il primo turno e si devono presentare a suonare nello studio della band più famosa al mondo. Lilly è nel panico, Lilly è vittima di bullismo da parte di un loro compagno delle superiori, che l’ha sempre presa di mira fin da quando era obesa, così Lilly ha ora un problema con il cibo e non mostra mai il suo corpo per paura di essere presa in giro. Il punto è che si rende conto che il suo disagio non può infrangere i sogni dei suoi amici e dopo una grandissima lotta interiore decide che la soluzione è coprirsi con una felpa e farsi coraggio. Quando suona è davvero divina, fa scorrere le mani sul basso come se stesse pizzicando un’arpa, è dolce e rock allo stesso tempo e suonano una versione di Jude dei Jailbirds in un modo che stupisce anche i diretti interessati.
La scelta è chiara, i Red Velvet Courtains vincono.
L’inizio della fine, Lilly ha un attacco di panico. Damian è malmostoso e con poca pazienza. Fin da subito però tutti insieme si dimostrano essere comprensivi nei confronti dei vincitori e cercano delle soluzioni per non far prendere di mira la ragazza. I due si scontrano fin da subito, sarà anche a disagio in pubblico, ma Lilly sa tener testa ad un ragazzone tutto muscoli, modesto e presuntuoso che però sotto sotto ha già un debole per lei. L’avventura inizia nel migliore dei modi, i Red Velvet hanno tutte le carte in regola per diventare davvero famosi, si danno da fare e la critica li apprezza, se non fosse per l’abbigliamento di Lilly che così facendo fomenta le malelingue, succede quello che lei voleva evitare: attirare l’attenzione su di sé, ma i Jailbirds si sono esposti per loro e non si possono tirare indietro.
"La conosco da meno di una settimana e le sue parole mi entrano dentro come un uragano e scombinano il mio petto. Mi sento nudo di fronte alla sua sincerità. Per la prima volta in vita mia una donna se n’è fregata della facciata da rockstar e ha affondato la lama nel petto dell’uomo che si cela dietro"
Le dinamiche si incastrano alla perfezione e tra le prove in sala e sul palco, la tensione che va e viene, le critiche della stampa su una presunta relazione tra Lilly e Damian e l’inizio del tour, inizia a nascere qualcosa tra i due. Lui è molto protettivo nei suoi confronti ed è molto dura resistere alla tentazione di baciare le sue labbra. Lei è semplice e schietta, continua a non sopportare la pressione mediatica, ma inizia a farci l'abitudine. Damian e Lilly sul palco sono in completa sintonia, danno vita a un duo molto sensuale e intimo che scatena adrenalina e scintille. Si ritrova su di sé sempre quegli occhioni a osservarla, è inutile dirvi che anche il suo cervello elabora scene vietate ai minori. La tensione sessuale tra i due è forte, ma si lasceranno andare?
Damian non si è mai confidato con nessuna delle ragazze con cui ha avuto solo scappatelle, non si è mai trovato di fronte a qualcuna che invece prova interesse per lui. Il problema è che nasconde un segreto oscuro che lo spaventa più di tutto, saprà lasciare il passato dietro di sè?
In Backstage vengono svelati tutti i segreti di un grande lavoro fatto di passione per la musica e coinvolgimenti personali. L'autrice crea una grande famiglia, le due band si proteggono a vicenda e creano un'immagine imbattibile agli occhi del pubblico e della critica, che non possono che constatare che sono una grande squadra.
Per il primo volume della Rodies series è tutto, non vedo l'ora di provare di nuovo l'adrenalina di vederli tutti insieme sul palco e conoscere le altre sorprendenti storie.

I give up. WTF is this?? Cries Martin? Cries Martin?? Putting verb before pronoun as a dialogue tag makes me feel like I'm either a) reading a 200 year old book, or b) a book for children.
Since this book uses a translator, I have no idea if the idiot is the author or the translator. Either way, this is a whopper, and everyone involved in editing this crap needs to find a new job.
I've read so many rock star romance books, it's not even funny - but it's rare for me to hate the protagonist this much from the very first chapter. The vibe of the character is just...there just is no depth. Nothing you can hold on to and root for. How this book has a 4 star average is beyond me.
I highly doubt this author has ever met a rock star, nor do I believe that she knows anything about the music industry. Research is your friend! Really.
