Kohl Merrifeild is a fallen Fae of the Seelie Court, breathtakingly beautiful and banished to the human world to entertain women for the rest of his days at the infamous Avalon Club. They clipped his wings and took his magic – ensured there’s no chance of him rebelling or wielding any power. Only they forgot that beauty is power - and that’s the one thing they left him with.

After her first night at Avalon, a night club famous for the entertainment provided by the beautiful Fallen Fae, Bree gets swept up in the smoldering gaze of one of the club’s most coveted Fae: Kohl Merrifield. Just a pretty distraction. Easy... Brainless.

Until she starts to notice there might be more to Kohl than his devilish grin, the lean muscles, and those intense green eyes.

Until she starts to suspect he might be dangerous.

Bree believes Kohl is part of an underground group fighting to overthrow the system that keeps Fae like him confined within the walls of the club – a regime that Bree’s ancestors worked hard to put in place. And now she’s determined to prove that her suspicions are right and bring Kohl and the other rebels to justice.

Only she didn’t count on the fact that getting closer to Kohl could upend everything she thought she knew. And that there might be things going on at the Avalon club that are just as sinister as the ways of the dark Unseelie Fae.

As alliances blur, conspiracies erupt, and violence escalates, Bree is forced to make the toughest decision of her life: is she willing to betray everything she was raised to protect, for a rebel Fae she’s not even sure she can trust?

Come, step through the shimmering doors of Avalon...

*AVALON is an enemies to lovers urban fantasy New Adult romance. It is book one in a series but can definitely be read as a standalone since each book is a separate story with its own hero and heroine – and HEA.

***AVALON is a much steamier re-imagining of the award-winning Young Adult novel, TOP CHOICE, written under the author’s other pen-name: Sophie McAloon. Please note that while some of the characters in AVALON are seniors in high school, there are several explicit sex scenes and is therefore not intended for readers under 18.

When you blend together the urban fantasy and dystopian genres, you get Avalon!
Adventure, mystery, a society with plenty of secrets, lethal attraction.

If I were to describe this book using only two words, that would be: adventurous and unpredictable. In our book review community, usually the more we read, the easier it becomes to guess plot points or the direction of a novel; yet, this book surprised me. Although it employs certain tropes and urban fantasy elements I've encountered before, it uses them in a creative manner which, in return, makes the reading experience better. In addition to fantasy elements, there is romance in this book, which is explored well alongside the plot and it doesn't distract. Rather, I found its contribution electric.

The setting was immersive. We find ourselves at this technologically advanced city - we're talking about some Matrix-level equipment here, including my favorite bit: the infamous Card, which apparently includes everything there is to know about a person, has their accounts, works as a phone and laptop etc. It sounded both so convenient and utterly terrifying. The setting was gripping, urging you to mentally explore the place you're reading about. The descriptions worked and I felt like I could picture everything in detail. At this city, humans co-exist with Fae - particularly, the Fae that were exiled and 'punished' by having both wings and powers removed so as to remain peaceful. Forced to work for the entertainment of humans. Are things as peaceful as humans make them sound? Not really. The stakes were high, which contributed a lot to the mystery and adventure aspect of this book. The desire to figure out what's going on was huge.

A gripping navigation of the night streets of this city, viewing it through the eyes of Bree - who is of important social status - as she gets closer to Kohl - one of the Fae. Night-time perusing, open and honest conversations, constant challenging of one another. Bree undergoes a big journey, she comes to realise many things, questions her beliefs. Her character development was evident and I enjoyed the way she stood her ground. Kohl was such a fascinating character and one unlike the usual male leads in urban fantasy. Instead of the untouchable Fae, we get one with vulnerabilities, smart, with so much heart and the need to vitally support his people. I enjoyed the side characters as well! I wish we could get a bit more time with them but I also know we might meet them in the subsequent books.

-- Some of the topics in here, specifically those regarding the conditions and treatment of the Fae characters, can be quite heavy so keep that in mind going into this!

My only complaint is that the ending felt a bit abrupt (in a: I wanted a bit more manner). As each book is supposed to wrap up the story of a certain couple, I didn't feel like Bree and Kohl's story was entirely complete. Although there was some conclusion, we're left with the feeling that so much still needs to be addressed and dealt with. Especially with regards to certain villains. The next book will take place primarily in the Seelie realm/court, so I wonder if there is going to be an overarching plot in addition to the individual plots? That would certainly explain this particular ending, which although abrupt was still sweet!

I would recommend the book if you're in the mood for a fast-paced urban fantasy! I wonder when we're get the sequel!

05-16: Drawn to this book by the rather traumatic experience laid out in the synopsis, I was eager to get to know Kohl and see how he had dealt with what had been done to him. I was also curious what kind of 'civilization' was in place that could set that type of trauma in motion. In what world did the act of clipping the wings of a fae and stripping them of their magic.. seem acceptable?

Most of all, I was curious as to what horrible thing he'd done to be condemned this way. The answer to that last question was shocking actually, leaving me feeling for him immediately. Nevermind the fact he is beautiful and highly sought after for his 'company.' It's an empty kind of admiration and there are things happening behind the scenes that don't quite match up.

Bree, the main character which we follow throughout the story, was the one aspect I really struggled to like. I understand that she grew up a result of her circumstance, just like Kohl, and that certain biases were at play due to that upbringing. I get that at first, there would be doubts and distrust, but there are points in the story where I strongly disliked the way she treated their kind and Kohl in particular. Certainly there were times when I felt she should have known better or given benefit of the doubt to someone, rather than passing the harshest judgements and hurling cruel comments at them.

There's a fairly uncommon dynamic at play between the humans and fae, which I really enjoyed overall and the enemies-to-lovers trope is well done. Knight made a lot of interesting, bold choices with the direction of the story that I felt other authors might shy away from, leaving me both impressed and excited to see more of her work.

Despite my personal conflict over Bree, I loved the story and I'll be keeping an eye out for more!

I received a free ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

I think Avalon is a very interesting take on the Fae/Seelie world, and it was done very well. The revolution and cries for justice were written in a way to show the need, but also how the group could go too far.

Bree's transformation from humans > Fae and the clubs are the best thing for them to see the true nature of her world and how it affects others was also very good. It wasn't a magical, "I love this Fae guy so I'm changing for him" type of transformation, but a slow, "I'm finally seeing the injustice, and maybe I should start doing something about it."

The only comments I have are that there were quite a few errors in this book. There was one that made me wonder if Bree was a last-minute name change from Ali, because once, 'equality' was spelled 'equBreety' as if a quick Find-and-Replace had been used. Avalon started with minimal errors but they quickly appeared with full force and it was a little distracting, from grammar to spelling to random quotation marks (or lack of).

I also think the end was glossed over a little. I wanted more of a happy ending or at least know what happens after they go through with all these plans. It's possible they'll be touched on in the sequel, but there's no guarantee, and Bree and Kohl probably won't have a point of view in the next book to talk a little more about what happens.

I think what Bree caused when she talked to her mom wasn't touched on, either. She and Kohl should have had a conversation about her mistake - both were understandably upset, but they didn't even discuss what happened and questioned if she thought she made a mistake once it was safe. It's like Kohl brushed it aside. There were a lot of things going on, but things like Bree's mistake probably created a few cracks in their relationship.

I've never been so disappointed in a book so fast. The premise of the story is fantastic, unfortunately it was poorly executed with juvenile writing. I couldn't help but groan when I saw the over the top way the characters talked on the very first page. Here are just two examples from chapter one:

"Better than epic! We are going to party until..." I pause, laughing as I finish: "... Until we close this joint down!"

Holy fucking six-pack... Holy downward V and perfect dusting of a treasure trail...

From there, it was just constant cringing. This reminds me of the worst fan fiction I have ever read. And you know how colons and semicolons are usually kept to a minimum in writing? There's at least 20 in chapter one alone. I'm going to refrain from rating since I read so little, but I definitely would not recommend to anyone.

Avalon is set in a world where there are humans, and Fae – Fae consisting of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. It is the story of Bree and Kohl (though really it is more about rights and equality). Bree comes from a line of strong women who were responsible for creating a treaty with the Fae and creating the Avalon clubs. Basically, they made a treaty with the Fae that instead of imprisoning Fae children, whose parents are criminals, they would instead bind their powers, cut off their wings and give them to humans. Once grown, these Fae work at Avalon Clubs as “Avalon boys.” Kohl is one of the most prized Avalon boys, and Bree’s mother is a powerful politician dealing with the Fae. When Bree turns 18, she finally gets into an Avalon club and meets Kohl. A few days later she runs into him at school, and he doesn’t remember her, and she gets pissed off. They argue and he gets in trouble. Meanwhile a bunch of Fae are clamoring for equal rights. This is the story of their relationship at the backdrop of the “insurgent” movement.

This was a unique perspective that I haven’t come across before. I have to say Ms. Knight is an excellent author. This book was only from Bree’s perspective, and I honestly disliked the h in the beginning. She was self-centered, selfish, and brainwashed. She was a little too used to having respect and power because of who her mother was. But over time her character developed as Kohl’s and her relationship also developed. I liked the fact that the author gave Bree a backbone and her own opinions that didn’t necessarily align with anyone elses. The backdrop of the movement was intense, and one could see the explosion coming. The resolution was also interesting and clever. The ending felt rushed however, and what Kohl wanted to do was naïve and out of character. Things weren’t resolved to that point that the Fae had equality and what he thought would happen was unlikely. It just felt like the author was wrapping things up neatly and quickly. I also wish there was an epilogue. This was a HFN. Overall though I enjoyed the book and recommend it.

I thought the premise of this book was really interesting! The male "Fallen Fae" are sent to the human realm when they are young children so they don't have to live out their lives in Fae prison. However, they are not allowed to be fully educated and their only job prospects are to work at clubs for (mostly female) human entertainment.

Throughout this story we follow Bree, whose own family put in place the restrictions for the Fallen Fae. She believes that Fae are an inferior species and should be lucky to have jobs lined up for them at the clubs. But when she meets Kohl, a Fallen Fae who works at the Avalon Club, she (finally) starts to realize that he's being treated unfairly and deserves to have the same rights as humans.

I really was intrigued by this story, and I liked the chemistry between the two main characters. However, I do wish the "enemies to lovers" plot was a little more of a slow burn as their relationship happened instantly and seemed a little unrealistic. I was also a little disappointed by the ending and I felt everything was resolved a little too quickly and easily.

Overall, I still really enjoyed this read and I'm interested to see what happens in the next book and explore more of the Fae world!

Holy crap!! This book is so much more than I expected!! When I read the summary I thought it sounded good, but it was so much better than I imagined!!!

I freaking love Kohl and Bree and am looking forward to book two, hoping to get some more of them in there! Man, Kohl was HOT… totally sex on a stick HOT!!!!!

The characters in this book were so well written, especially the main characters, you see so much growth as the book goes on! There are characters you love to love, love to hate, and then the ones you might hate and come to love!!

If you enjoy enemies-to-lovers, fallen Fae in an urban fantasy, slow burn tension and witty banter, then you will adore this book!!! It’s a TOTALLY ORIGINAL STORY!!!

After finishing "Avalon" by Liv Knight, I am conflicted about my rating, because although there were so many aspects of the story that I really liked, I also struggled with a few key details. First of all, I loved the premise of the book, especially the Fallen Fae vs. human dichotomy, since this created a Romeo & Juliet-esque situation for the protagonists. A forbidden romance is one of my favorite literary tropes, so Kohl and Bree's star-crossed relationship was wonderful to witness. In particular, I admired that Kohl was willing to risk his own safety to improve the lives of his fellow Fae, but he also refused to jeopardize Bree's well-being. Additionally, I think that the author did a fantastic job with character development, since Bree starts out as snobby, privileged, and ignorant about the plight of the Fallen Fae, but she eventually grows into a compassionate woman concerned with using her wealth and connections for the greater good. The transformation is gradually and perfectly done, with Bree becoming someone to root for and applaud.

As much as I enjoyed the characters and plot of "Avalon," there were numerous grammatical errors sprinkled throughout the text, which I found quite distracting. However, I read an ARC of the book, so it is possible that these errors were cleaned up before "Avalon" was published. Likewise, I thought the ending of "Avalon" was a little underwhelming; Knight managed to tie up all the loose ends, but the final few chapters felt rushed and the main conflicts were far too easily resolved. All in all, there was a lot to like about this book, and I would definitely read another story penned by the same author, but I believe "Avalon" needs a stronger ending and a few revisions.

The premise of this book had the potential to be great epic fantasy romance. But the storyline felt incredibly rushed and left much to be desired. This could have been a trilogy or at least a duology, and I know there are going to be more books in the series, but the focus shifts to other characters and most likely other plots.

There was so much to work with, from the Fae being stripped of wings and power and forced to essentially enslaved as playthings for the wealthy to a revolution in the making to politics and forbidden love, there was so much room for a badass human heroine to emerge and scheming and plotting to occur, but it was all over before it really even began. The resolution was too easy!

And the romance left a lot to be desired. I know the FMC was only 18 and she definitely made stupid decisions like an 18 year old would. She did undergo some great character growth through the story in terms of being raised with on set of beliefs and being willing to challenge said beliefs when presented with contradictory evidence through personal experience.

To make this book better, there needs to be more lead up to the reveals, like who’s the leader of the protesters, the resolutions need to be more complicated, there were times when we should have been “shown” what was happening, instead we were just “told” what happened, and I would have loved prolonged “enemies to lovers” tension. Everything just needs to slow down.

Avalon really took me by surprise. I received an arc of this book and I’m voluntarily writing this review after completion of the story.
The story is set in a world where fallen fae are taken into servitude to work within clubs as the “entertainment” for punters. Think of Japanese host clubs but turned up by 1000. The fallen fae have no rights to education, different careers, relationships, independent living etc but are treat like celebrities within their field.
Bree is the great granddaughter of the woman that introduced these clubs and her family is renowned for their handlings between the Overworld and their own world.
On her eighteenth birthday she visits Avalon, a club of magic, wonder, lust and desire and meets Kohl, the most enigmatic and desired of Avalon boys. Their meeting sets off a series of events.
Rebellion, politics, envy, betrayal, vengeance. This story is full of all of my favourite things. Enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers to enemies again.
For those looking for spice, it’s here! Not the most explicit you’ll ever read nor the most deprived but there’s a few decent scenes. The romance is tense and it fluctuates, keeping you on your toes trying to discover where our characters will end up.
Overall I enjoyed this book and will certainly go ahead to read any others released within the same universe.

Simply put, not my cup of tea. I thought I would give it a shot because it sounded interesting, but it lacked substance. Like a snack size bag of potato chips when what you really want is a burrito - satisfies in the moment but leaves you wanting more.
The characters are in that awkward place between being a teenager and becoming an adult. I hated that part of my life, especially since it was so awkward, so reading books set in that phase of life tend to rub the wrong way.
I didn't like that the only thorough descriptions we get are when the boys are half naked or when she's in her ballgown. Does she have a piece of jewelry she likes to wear but fidgets with when something's on her mind? She strikes me as someone who has a favorite jacket - maybe she worries the zipper pull when she's anxious?
And then I was left hanging at the end - and I hated it. I wanted to see the MCs take down the true villains.

I received this ARC for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book, I think Liv did an amazing job. The story was very different and I guess that's what I really liked about it.

I liked Bree but found her annoying at times and especially at the start with her treatment of Kohl. I loved how she protected Kohl and the Fae, as well as standing up to her mother. She finally saw the crap her mum was pulling and did the right thing in the end.

Kohl wasn't your typical male lead, he had so many vulnerabilities and wasn't the all powerful Fae, I really liked that about him. It was sad to see what he endured and Bree didn't help the situation at times. I loved that he fought for his cause and got there eventually with the help of Bree.

I would give this 🌟🌟🌟🌟/5. I felt the ending was very abrupt and some things were still left unsaid, I felt the romance was lacking as well. I'm looking forward to the second book in the series though.

I got an ARC for this book!

I started this book because the storyline seemed pretty interesting. And it is! But I'm a bit confused about whatever I'm feeling after finishing it.

The main plot of the book is pretty well thought, but I had some issues with various characters' reactions. Especially when one would diminish or betray the other. It made me frown and wonder "that's all? After everything they said, that's the reaction?"

I liked how the MC is written. It's refreshing to see a main character who's judgy and obviously wrong in her mindset, and I liked how that made me comment some of her thoughts with disbelief.

However, there were some parts which felt too long for me. At some point I really wanted the book to end and to be honest I skipped some of the descriptions to end it faster. I'm not saying that the book is bad, it is not. It's just that it didn't really do it for me.

Still, it was a good reading.

I received a free copy of this book via BookSirens and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I surprised myself by how much I liked this one. Usually, slow-paced books aren't my cup of tea, but there was just something different about this one. Liv Knight definitely took a different approach to writing fae stories.

The description of the book made me think that this book was going to be something completely different than it actually ended up being. The story is filled with mystery and enemies to lovers romance. It has a unique plot that I actually couldn't predict. I really liked that about this book.

The characters were well written and I didn't have trouble connecting with them.

Overall, I liked this book because it was different. I even managed to finish it in a couple of hours.

I was given a free copy of this book and I decided to give it an honest review.
The world building is unique and everything takes place from Bree's point of view. I would have liked some chapters from Kohl point of view. Bree, in the beginning of the book, is naive and self-centered. She changes slowly through the book because she comes to care for Kohl, but I feel that without Kohl's influence she would have ended up like her mother. The struggle of the Fallen Fae gripped my heart and made me root for them from the beginning. The story is mesmerizing and I could not put it down. I look forward to the next book which I believe takes place mostly in the Seelie Court. Seeing what Knight does with the Fae realm will be interesting.

I am still torn between loving the story and being quite irritated that the fmc and her friends didn’t see the immorality of the human realm to harbor the kids of “fallen” fae to abuse them as not much more than sex workers. Guess it’s both.

With all the action, I am glad that Avalon was spared since I would love to see it myself. And that Bree got her act together and started using her brain. It took her long enough, but she certainly made it worth the while.

Avalon is a unique story about fae and humans -stranger than any I have read so far and yes, I do love the story. Can’t wait to read the next (stand alone) installment including reading more about Bree and Kohl.

Avalon is a trendy nightclub for young adults (and primarily women) because of the super attractive waiters/entertainment - who are all fae males. That's where the main couple meets and a romance buds.

The plot was much deeper than I was expecting and really exciting to read! This story is fighting against injustice, and the main character has to question what she's learning vs what she's been raised to believe. The ending left me with a lot of questions so I'm super excited to see the story continue in the sequel.

The romance goes a bit quickly for me, I would have liked to see more of the conversations/events that brought the characters closer.

Thank you BookSirens for the ARC!

An engaging story of love, loyalty, and betrayal. The characters are well drawn, especially Bree, a schoolgirl learning and growing both in knowledge and emotionally.

The writing is excellent and added to my enjoyment. There is heat in Bree's romance but it never crosses the line.

While the world of Fae isn't my typical genera, I thoroughly enjoyed Avalon and would recommend to other readers.

I really enjoyed this book and thought it was an unique take on the typical urban fantasy read. The world building, characters, mystery, and banter kept me entertained and turning the pages. Although I really liked Bree, Kohl was my favorite character, and I really wished we could have seen things from his perspective. Overall, I enjoyed this story and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Kohl is a fallen fae of the Seelie Court. He has been sent to the human world to the Avalon Club as entertainment. Bree works at the club but is leery of Kohl but sees he is more than what he appears. Eventually Bree has to chose between what she was taught and what she has uncovered. This book has mystery, adventure and hidden secrets. Fabulous book.

This is a good Fae, enemies to lovers story. There is politics and sex, and so much more. I feel that this is a good read, with good characters, and the writing was well done. I was disappointed with the fade to black elements but it was still a good read that I enjoyed.

Ok. At first I really wanted to climb into the book and beat the fmc to a pulp. But I continued on. Then she kept getting worse and he monologue was horrible. Then the treatment or the fae was horrible. Then her mother needed a swift kick omg forget about it I’m done

Overall, this was a fun, fast-paced and sexy fae story.

The worldbuilding is complex, and to me felt like a combination of magic and sci-fi. The tension between the human and fae worlds was real, and fraught with people battling their own natures and ambitions for power. Bree and Kohl had a great dynamic: I believed in them as characters, and their relationship (while always complicated) had an honesty to it that I appreciated.

One of the most interesting relationships was between Bree and her mum. This is not a healthy or happy relationship; while there is love and loyalty on both sides, Bree's mother is particularly fascinating and a juicy side-character who keeps the whole plot on its toes.

However, there were a few things that held it back for me. For one, it seems to be an open secret that the Fae boys are effectively sex workers held as indentured servants - and not only is society okay with that, there is definitely a victim-blaming mentality shared by those privileged enough to be able to purchase their services. I found it really difficult to marry Bree's kindness and positive attributes with her total naivete in this regard. It meant her growth as a character felt disingenuous at times because she never really wrestled with how problematic her family has been for such a long time. She was more passive than she could have been, and because we saw the story from her POV I was disappointed.

The other thing that bothered me slightly was the pacing - while overall, I loved how quick the story moved as we propelled through an increasingly volatile setting, there were a few emotional moments that weren't given the space to breathe to make them satisfying. A few plot points were dangled but not developed, but weren't engaging enough for me to continue reading the series. The ending felt a little rushed and shallow, after all the build up.

That said, I very much enjoyed reading this and loved the fusion of genres to create someone that feels fresh in a saturated market.
