Shattered Galaxies #4

Fractured Waves

Rate this book
Long have I waited for an adventure. From the moment I started working as a nurse, I saved for my dream vacation. When that dream becomes a reality as my cruise ship leaves the coast of Alaska, the overwhelming happiness I feel disappears in a flash of rainbow colors.

I’m in a place like nowhere I’ve ever been, where everything is alien. I find myself back on a coast, only with sand, not the rocky shoreline or snow-tipped mountains I am used to. Wandering alone, I feel eyes on me, then I see him from a distance.

Before I know it, he steals me away before I can run, vowing I am his. There is nowhere to hide and no way to escape the water kingdom where he holds me captive. I become more and more confused and conflicted as time goes on. My brain is telling me to find a way out, but my heart is telling me to stay.

Is this a nightmare or the fantasy I’ve dreamed of?

So in a future were humans mess a lot with what we don't know, we somehow develop a very strange for of AI. Our FMC is a nurse and She works like a slave but She finaly hás de well deserved vaction to a Cruise on Alaska. Thing is, her cellphone is very weird and then... Something happens. We até looking into a book with Litlle mermaid vibes but insted if a Litlle mermaid we get a very big sexy Triton! Oh yeahh and he tottaly wants to keep her safe in his underwater groto! Very easy to read and very sweet.

I really didn't like this.

I thought the h was stupid and rash - she was a nurse and you're having her act like that??? The h was also very very useless...

There wasn't even a plot (at least not to me), so it felt like a lot of random scenes thrown together with no satisfying resolution.

I'm giving the 1 star for the H because he wasn't horrible and seemed cute at times (holding onto her ankle as she helped the other guy)

My reviews of the Shattered Galaxies series:
Book #1 Splintered Shadows ★★
Book #2 Ravaged World★★★
Book #3 Scattered Petals★★★
Book #4 Fractured Waves★★★
Book #5 Crushed Dominion★★★★
Book #6 Broken Song ★★
Book #7 Destroyed Desire ★★★
Book #8 Jagged Honor★★

This gets bumped up a bit over the others because it took a good chunk of the book for the characters to have sex and get romantic. I appreciate that they lived together and talked a bit beforehand; it made it the most satisfying in terms of romance in the series so far.

We still are keeping up the good trend of keeping the scope of the narrative small, focusing on the two leads, and not letting anything overly grandiose try to eat up the limited amount of space there is (which is around 200 for this one). The alien world was interesting, Roka was a good male lead, overall it wasn't bad. Not my new favorite romance or anything--it didn't evoke much from me in the wider comparison of romances, but, for this series, it's been the best so far I think in terms of prioritizing development and having the characters act more naturally (when Nova immediately discounts it was a dream I was glad. Made her more logical in execution than Viola from the previous novel.)

If I had to recommend a novel from this series, of the 4 I've read, this one comes with my best opinion thus far.

The worst thing about it, I think, was that despite this apparently having been edited, there were several scenes that felt like they weren't because information is either repeated or missing, making me feel like something got lost or wasn't properly erased during editing.

Like, when they first have sex, it appears they go from the pool to outside the pool, but this is never stated so the placement of the characters is confusing, and a little farther down Roka has his hands down her undies, finds her clit, and a couple paragraphs later, discovers it again and asks about it as if he hadn't found it a few paragraphs earlier. It was odd, to the say the least.

A romantic sci-fi story. This story is part of a series but each can be easily read on their own. We travel to another world. So you would expect technology but not here. The inhabitants used to have it but found that their world was better without it. Are hero is Roku. He mostly lives on land but is also able to breath underwater. Our heroine is Nova and she is from Earth but now finds herself on another world. We don’t know really how she got there besides something with her phone happening. She will find the world is beautiful but also very dangerous. The story is mostly about how their relationship changes and how romance knows no bounds.

potential

This book had potential. The female character was pretty irritating. I wonder why it’s always “ I’m in a dream, I’m in a coma, I’m unconscious “ ? Then the rude comments or “ I’ll believe it when I see it “ ? I don’t understand the first thing she does is attack him. Maybe the male character needs to be saying I’ll believe when I see it. Maybe I wasn’t in the correct mood for this book.

Nope.

eh

So another girl lands there too and is your kind and you just never bother to find it. This story left so much to be desired. It wasn’t long but the fact that it took forever to get a description of alien bits and took far too long to get more than the description of it was wide.
The steamy factor was lacking.
Too many loose ends just never truly addressed.

Disappointing on all fronts.

Nova is nurse who is over worked and completely under appreciated not only by her colleagues but also by her family. She has taken a huge step and taken herself on a trip but where she ends up is far from what she had planned. She should be on a boat watching icebergs float by, having wine with lunch whenever she is feeling hungry and not rushed off her feet worrying about how much there is still to do. It started out that way but somehow instead she is now stuck, underground and also most likely underwater, in a cave with a blue fish man. Luckily he seems to speak english but he's being very cagey to say the least. While he has not hurt her she doesn't trust him. I would probably be very like Nova in that situation. She feels numb over the fact she knows she'll pretty much never go home, she grieves and yet when thinking of it there is nothing much to go back to. She is limbo between the past and the future. She has gone years into the future and it seems like technology is dying out. The people are going back to simpler time. Given the AI gone rogue in her own time maybe that is not such a bad thing. Roka is a triton, the females of his kind are called nereids and both parties pretty much live apart all year until it is the mating season. He was out hunting when a strange light in the sky caught his attention and drew him to to the beach where he saw Nova. She is nothing like his people and he could see that she was unprotected and vulnerable. He could not let anything happen to her so he took her home as he knew that the other wildlife, nereids and tirtons would not be so kind to her. The thing is she makes him feel things he never thought he would and he doesn't know what to do about it. He concentrates and looking after her but is it just because she is new to his world or because of other reasons?
The world building in this book is simply stunning. I did feel as though I could see it all in my mind's eye. I'd love to know more about it and how the planet, eldoris, came to be the way it was. Maybe there will be more stories to come out of this world.

Nova was a top children's nurse in Utah. She has taken a weeks vacation for a cruise in Alaska away from her job and the gossip about the smart AI. On the cruise, her phone starts acting crazy with zapping and bright lights. The light show knocks her out and when she wakes up, she isn't in Alaska any more. She is surrounded by tropical bushes, sand and other plants she has never seen before. The ocean is green and the sun is bigger than usual. Then she sees a blue humanoid come out of the water and run towards her, she knows she isn't on Earth any more. When she regains consciousness, Nova finds herself in a cave with the blue triton who is named Roka. She is terrified at first but when he promises to protect her, she starts to trust him. The more she gets to know him, the more she falls for him.

Roka is a Triton. Tritons like to hunt and train so they can win nereid mates. When Roka sees bright colorful lights flashing from the dangerous island, he goes to investigate. To his shock he finds a human woman on the beach. He know that human women are very much in demand so every male would want to own her and nereid females would hate her. He decides to take her back to his cave to protect her until she can find a safe place to live. However Nova makes keeping her safe hard because she knows nothing about life on their planet. The more time Roka spends with her, the more he wants her to be his mate.

Good

Nova and Roka

Another victim of the mysterious cell-phone/AI incident, Nova finds herself transported away from her dream cruise in Alaska, to a tropical water-world.
There she meets Roka, a Triton, or water-dwelling otherworldly being.
The lands around Roka’s home are too dangerous to inhabit, and that’s why Nova finds herself living a life in an underwater cavern, with an attractive mer-man…

This multi-author project has spawned a number of new worlds, new aliens, and a fun set of loosely interlinked stories.
They’re all quick reads, and this one is no exception. Newly edited to fix some of the early errors, readers will enjoy finding a different type of mer-man (and maybe they started thinking of Jerry Anderson’s Stingray series too!).
This one is really all about coming to terms with a new life, and there is not a whole lot of danger/adventure experienced by our hero and heroine, but I give extra credit for the author remembering to answer that ever present question in books like these…”what about the toilet?”
If you enjoy sci-fi romance, mer-aliens, or just the different tales of women transported by the cell-phone glitch, then this is a book I think you’ll enjoy.

Roka Isn't a Shark!

Funny anecdote about this book: I spent half the book grumbling about Nova--the female lead--comparing Roka--the blue alien--to a shark. Lol, the least he looks to me is a shark. However, Fractured Waves is way more than silly comments about a blue alien hottie, it's a tale of broken souls finally finding their true home. Both protagonists had crappy childhoods and were loners as adults. I loved they had so much in common despite their obvious physical differences.

The plot is a slow one, focusing on the psychological and emotional development of the characters rather than in external problems. However, this helps you fall in love with the characters better than if it was a tale of action and thrills.

I fell in love with Roka and definitely added him to my book boyfriend harem (yes, it's a harem, not a list). He's so honest, caring, protective and passionate... His and Nova's first sex scene was the best smut I have read in all of my books from Samantha. Such hot scene that you'll end up pouncing on your husband after reading it.

So, stop reading this review and go get Fractured Waves. You won't be disappointed.

Being overwhelmed in life and in need of a break, Nova takes a trip to soothe her hurt and restless soul. But when she is unexpectedly thrown into more of an escape from her life than she bargains for, her world literally slips away.
Finding herself on a beach where strange sounds, strange plants and even stranger beings are the norm is a bit of a Stretch even for her imagination.
But while technology is the first thing her brain blames, her heart knows something isn't quite right.
She's thrown even more off balance when an alien male abducts her from her beach and takes her to another yet still foreign surrounding.
Nova feels the need to both protect herself by trust this strange being. And the more she trusts him, the more she feels as if she needs to be here.
You can feel out of place in familiar surroundings and feel right at home in a new environment, and even flourish.

This is a well written book that I enjoyed reading. The characters are great and the world building is vivid with lots of details. There’s Nova, a feisty human female who was going on a trip when her phone malfunctioned and sent her to another world. There she was found by Roka, a Triton male. He was hunting when he saw a flash, he went ashore and saw Nova. He went to tell her he would protect her and take her home but she freaked out and ended up passing out. Roka takes Nova to his underwater cave and when she wakes and attacks him, he tells her that she is his. There’s passion, fated mates, steamy scenes and more with a happily ever after ending.

This was a sweet story in the Shattered Galaxies series. I have loved all of the stories I have read so far and this was no different. Nova is pulled through a vortex to another world and time. Rescued by Roka she is still scared and sad but eventually comes to understand that he means her no harm and he’s a good male. He takes care of her and eventually they come to care for one another. This story was sweet and low angst for the most part. Once Nova has resigned herself to losing her world as she knew it she frees herself to love and a new life. I very much enjoyed this book.

Fractured is a good description!

This is the 3rd book in the “series” and it didn’t flow as well as the others. I read the authors note & the trouble she has with a loss on her family & poor 1st editor-but the story itself was disjointed like she couldn’t figure out where her characters where headed. Nova’s back story kept evolving but not in a way that would make any sense for the world she found herself in so it felt like a waste of time. Roka’s past was better written but then added details just threw it off. The story itself just felt like it was fractured pieces being sewed together.

Good

It was a good story and liked it very much but it needed little more action, I thought while reading something was going g to jump out of the shadows and make the story even better but never came..
Another thing was that it made me believed somehow Nova and Roka were going to help Conan to find the other human woman and at the end of the story the colors on the ski had brought someone else. All that had me thing... wait! Aren't they going to anything about it???
So it was good but left me wanting and with questions 😕 😒😔🤨🤨🤨🤨

Sort of a disappointment

Only because the first two books in this series were so great. I had high expectations but the writing was poor, the characters were not very strong and the whole thing lacked maturity. I stumbled over the grammatical mistakes and typos - there were maybe two or three in the first two (the third isn’t out yet) but this was heavy- laden with them further adding to my frustration. Sorry to say I just did not enjoy this one. :(

Malfunctioning cell phone calls true love

So much good in this book! The world building was great, with excellent details of alien life and culture, and alien history as the hero knew it. Both the alien merman Roka and the human woman Nova are relatable and likable, with enough backstory to explain their motivations and foibles. The story progressed smoothly and logically from bizarre first contact to HEA. It's good reading.

Good story line but the typos and plot errors ruin the reading experience. I think these authors push out so many of these aliens romance books and don’t realise that they give human mannerisms and knowledge of things they have no idea of into their vocabulary calling the woman who he wants as a mate a vixen as an example. If he knows nothing of Earth, how does he know that lol on come on, really!

Nova (h) is a hard working nurse who's finally taking a weeklong vacation on an Alaskan cruise. Her cell phone malfunctions, perhaps due to some strange AI experiments that human have been conducting, and she finds herself on a beach on an unknown planet. Roka (H), a triton male, finds her and takes her to his secret den to protect her from the harsh flora and fauna of planet Eldoris. Nova is initially hostile towards Roka but comes to trust him as their relationship evolves into something very hot and intense. Roka and Nova are nice characters who have to work together to find their HEA. Some minor dramas but not too intense in this alien romance.

Transported through Time and Space

In this story, Nova’s phone transports her from her Alaska cruise to Eldoris, where she is rescued by Roka. Once she realizes she can’t get back to Earth, Nova has a week long breakdown - maybe that’s a realistic reaction, but it wasn’t much fun to read. I did like how she and Roka started working together as a unit, that was sweet. Overall, a good book.

So good!! Highly recommend this book. The world building was great. It had excellent details of alien life. You also got to learn about each character. Both the hero Roka and the human heroine Nova are likable. It ends with a friend's to lovers HEA.

You can’t change those who hurt you, but you can stay true to who you are. Even without knowing love, you can still learn to love. Follow the main characters as they struggle under unusual circumstances to come to terms with this discovery.
