A thousand stars (and a desperate plea for the second book)
You know the story. There's a plain, ordinary girl with a dangerous secret. A royal father that abandoned her and deprived her of the life she deserved. A tragedy of epic proportions that exposes the girl to the spotlight, and suddenly turns her into the crown princess of a crumbling nation. By all means, she should be happy. Ecstatic even.
But Emilia Victoria Lancaster is not. She is angry and terrified, thrown into a pit of snakes that seek an opportunity to bite her, to smother her, to crush her under expensive shoes, thinly-veiled threats and disdain. That her powerful words, her poignant stories laced with emotion and a unique kind of magic only she can cast are my refuge from daily disappointments and exhaustion, from bitterness and the hopeless feeling of falling so deep inside yourself that it seems nearly impossible to reach the surface. I didn't know that my godmother had it in her to weave a slightly twisted, deliciously sinister modern fairy-tale full of depraved nobles, sizzling forbidden romance and broken, messed-up characters that constantly battled the sharp-clawed demons and the suffocating darkness that threatened to devour them. In the past, I've loved Julie's stories for multiple reasons. Dirty Halo, though, is the most addictive. I craved each page and chapter and heartbreak and treason like a drowning man gasping for air. My fingers itched to touch the silk fabrics, my feet to wander the corridors of Waterford Palace, my eyes to feast on beauty and plastic smiles that hid cold calculation and malice and my heart knew, in its darkest corners and rugged edges that every kiss, every breakdown and tear would pervade my senses and imbue my atoms. Dirty Halo is a story brimming with searing passion, longing and despair, a lush tale of court intrigue, schemes, political maneuvers and dirty secrets set in the kingdom of Germania, a monarchy that faces its greatest challenge when a tragedy that could hide something fouler befalls the ruling family. Emilia's journey is a perilous one and finds her unwilling to give up on her previous life, when she tried so hard to fight and quench the dreams of royalty and finally being accepted by her father. But the greatest danger of them all is none other than Lord Carter Thorne. His armor is tarnished, and so is his reputation. He is wicked, cruel and secretive, but his chemistry with Emilia is OFF.THE.FREAKING.CHARTS. Or more likely, it turns poor charts to ashes. Carter and Emilia are a bomb waiting to explode, but I am all too eager to burn in the inferno they create.
Julie Johnson constantly evolves as an author. She doesn't rest on her laurels, she tries for more, and she achieves it. With Dirty Halo, this sensuous, dark fairytale that set my world ablaze, she justified once more my trust and unwavering faith in her stories.
P.S. Luckily for me I read the Preface before I embarked on a futile journey to Germania in order to track downand kidnap a certain smirking Lord. You should as well.

Dirty Halo is the start to Julie Johnson's Forbidden Royals Trilogy, the story of Emilia Lancaster as her entire life takes a drastic turn. Being a princess sounds like a fairy tale for some girls, but for Emilia it's her worst nightmare.
Emilia was a brilliant heroine and I loved her attitude that was present through the entire book. She didn't lose any of her fight, even after being thrown into such a difficult position and instead we got to see her find an even stronger backbone. I thought it was really admirable and it had me adoring her character.
From the moment I started this book I was completely captivated and found myself even ignoring part of the Super Bowl just to finish it. Emilia had such an interesting tale to tell and the craziness never stopped. There was murder, and nefarious plots uncovered, and one hell of a sexual tension brewing with one very sexy Lord. Honestly this book is like no other that I've read before. Not only did I love Emilia, but I was pleasantly surprised that the evil stepsister I was expecting, was instead a fun loving new stepsister that I thought was a great addition to this book.
But that ending! I'm going to need the next book ASAP.

Leider absolut nicht mein Buch: Ich fand die Handlung ziemlich vorhersehbar, die Protagonistin nicht sonderlich sympathisch und habe auch die Charaktere nicht in mein Herz schließen können, da diese für mich absolut keine Chemie hatten. Man konnte das Buch trotzdem sehr schnell durchlesen, aber ich glaube ich werde mir Band 2 nicht mehr zulegen.

I'm so curious of what will happen in the next book... I have NO patience!!!
So many unresolved issues and I'm really dying here!!!
God, i love this book and let me tell you a weird thing... There isn't a single book of Mrs. Johnson that it's not in my TBR list and here, i am!!!! This was my first book of hers and now, I want to make up for the lost time and to read them all... ASAP!!!

Well, this book had it all...
An ordinary girl turns to a princess? Check!
A modern fairytale? Check!
A forbidden love story? Check!
Love, lust, hate, family issues, friendship, dead ends, assassinations (or not?), obligations and much more???
Check, check and check!
High Anticipation and angst? Check!
This was my sweet heaven in books, my soft spot that i adore reading...

Well, Emilia is an ordinary (not!) girl and in an instant, her life is changing...
The royal family is sorta out of the picture and as the protocol is saying all the royal members of the family have to go under protection... And guess what??? Emilia is one of these persons!!!
Why is that??? Because she is the only daughter of the next in line king...
So, now Emilia is been forced to lead a royal life, against her will...
But she is not so content in that role...
"The fairy tale ending?
I'm living it.
And I'm here to tell you...
It fucking sucks."
Except, her new role, she is also facing heart matters in the face of her stepbrother, Carter!!!
Did i mention for those who doesn't know me that I'm a big succer for stepsiblings forbidden love??? Because, hey, it seems like a taboo, but it's really not, since they are not connecting by blood!!!
Well, in here, something is sparking to life when those two are together, but the truth is that against their will, they are trying to fight it, even though the efforts are not always successful!!!
So what will happen with this forbidden romance, especially aftrer the events that took place at the end of the book???
Will Carter and Emilia find a way to be together or they will stomp upon their hearts and do a bigger mess than before???
And what will happen with Emilia's new role???
"A brush. A spark.
A kiss. A wildfire.
We are an inferno. A combustile, uncontrollable flame."
Well, Emilia was a broken child... She was carrying the rejection of her father all of her life, but what if the things weren't as they seemed???
I totally understood her and i related with her in that part...
Everything in her life turned upside down and all this situation was a hard pill to swallow!!!
I'm sure that she will prove herself in the process of the story... I think that she would be a wonderful queen when that time will come...
As for her heart matters??? My heart is breaking for her behalf...
"The whole world thinks I'm royalty.
But I'm not a princess.
I'm a pawn."
"His touch haunts me. I long for it with a need that terrifies me, crave it like a junkie thoroughly addicted after just one fix, no matter how many times I tell myself to let him go."
Carter was a yummy book boyfriend!!! I instantly fell in love with him and the mysterious air around him!!!!
I'm sure that his feelings for Emilia is deeper than he is showing and he has more to give to her and to the world!!!
He appeared to be an arrogant ass and a womanizer, but he was so much more than that and toward Emilia was almost... perfect and very thoughtful, when he wasn't mad at her!!!
Their relationship was fierce and... toxicating!!! If i won't see them together at the end, i will hit my head in the wall!!!! Literally....
Oh!!! Also, i would love to see some chapters by his POV!!! I think that they would be soooo intersting!!!
"I am a heartless asshole," he whispers baldly. "You'd be wise to remember that."
"Don't forget to breathe, love." ,/i>
For the end, i kept the secondary characters...
Octavia was pure evil!!! I have serious suspicions about her, but i can't say them at this moment!!!
Owen felt threatened, so i understand why he was acting like that... He is in love with Emilia and i can jutified his reckless actions!!!
Chloe was awesome, even with her flaws!!!
And Linus!!!! I think that he was loving his daughter, even though he took his distance of her... But he wasn't finding the right way to show her!!! And i hated what happen to the end.... Damn!!!
"You look lovely, Emilia. Every inch the princess I always knew you were."
"A fancy dress doesn't make me a princess... By your standards, any noblewoman down in that room could hire a seamstress and call herself a queen."
"You're wrong, my dear. Nobility is not equivalent to royalty. One is a social class; the other a destiny. Nobles can be elevated in rank through money or marriage, opportunity or favor... but no one on earth can alter the blood running through your veins, Emilia Lancaster... Dirty Halo is the start to a very intriguing trilogy. A modern day fairytale wrapped in an evil shroud where an evil stepmother seems to hold all the puppet strings in the castle. This first book put all the players in riveting positions to what will be a very scrumptious trilogy that includes murder, mystery, passion, and a forbidden romance.
Emilia is the illegitimate daughter of newly crown King of Germania. She knows her father only by name and when chaos comes to their quaint country, Emilia and her birthright are thrown into the spotlight. She must take her place in the family that includes an evil stepmother, a fun and sassy stepsister, Chloe, and a broody sexy stepbrother. And that stepbrother, Lord Carter Thorn, turns Emilia’s insides to molten lava. Their attraction is explosive and it will only lead to trouble because he becomes “Her Brother” though not related at all.
I will say that the beginning started out with a bang but it also was somewhat askew. It was a small section and it made me double think the situation but after that the story continued with intrigue and internal passion. Emilia is a strong and opinionated heroine and the situation that she gets thrown into turns her life upside down. She must navigate this journey on her own and when their are evil forces lurking in the castle, Emilia must be careful and savvy. And on top of all that, she must fight the sexual attraction she feels for Carter.
The book ends in a cliffhanger. Not a surprise but it will make for a very tumultuous second book. This book is fast pace and reads quickly. It is full of mystery, danger, fantastic banter and a forbidden love plot. I can’t wait for book 2.

Inhalt: „Silver Crown“ ist der erste Band der „Forbidden Royals“-Triologie von Julie Johnson. Er ist am 28.08.2020 bei LYX erschienen.
Emilia Lancaster genießt ihr Leben als Studentin. Eines Tages ändert der Tod des Königs alles. Sie hat versucht die royale Familienseite zu vergessen. Immerhin hat ihr Vater nie Kontakt zu ihr gewollt. Ihre Mutter hat sie alleine großgezogen. Als ihr Vater zum neuen König gekrönt werden soll, muss sie an seiner Seite den Platz der Kronprinzessin einnehmen. Immerhin ist sie sein einziges leibliche Kind. Was für andere ein Traum ist, ist für sie der reinste Albtraum. Sie wollte nie die Prinzessin sein. Nicht alle Menschen sind davon begeistert, dass es eine rechtmäßige Erbin gibt und somit die Monarchie weiter erhalten bleibt. Emilia muss sich nun an ihren neuen Status und Familie gewöhnen. Sie merkt schnell, dass es viele Intrigen und Machtspielchen gibt. Besonders ihr neuer Stiefbruder und sie haben keinen besonders guten Anfang und trotzdem fühlt sie sich zu ihm hingezogen...
Meinung: Das Cover finde ich schön, wenn auch ein bisschen blass. Es passt zu einer Prinzesinnengeschichte. Der Titel passt perfekt. Ich denke, dazu muss ich nicht mehr erklären. Übersetzt wurde die Geschichte von Anika Klüver. Von der Autorin habe ich schon mal ein Buch gelesen, das mir eher mittelmäßig gefallen hat. Bei diesem Buch hat mir der Schreibstil sehr viel besser gefallen. Ich bin quasi durch die Geschichte geflogen. Der Plot hat mich einfach mitgerissen und der Schreibstil ließ sich diesmal flüssiger lesen. Im Gegensatz zu ihrem anderen Buch habe ich diesmal überhaupt nicht das Gefühl als würde eine Szene unnötig lange dauern. Ich war die ganze Zeit über neugierig wie es wohl weitergehen würde. Das komplette Buch wird aus Emilias Sicht geschrieben. Das finde ich in diesem Fall gut gewählt, obwohl ich eigentlich immer gerne aus beiden Sichten lese. In diesem Band liegt der Schwerpunkt nicht auf der Liebe. Das sollte einem vielleicht bewusst sein, bevor man das Buch liest. Man begleitet Emilia von dem Moment an, als sie erfährt, dass der König gestorben ist. Man bekommt mit, wie sie zur Prinzessin wird und wie sie sich in ihr neues Leben einlebt. Gerade das fand ich interessant. Man überlegt die ganze Zeit, ob es eine Verschwörung gibt und wer wohl dahinter steckt. Man merkt, wie Emilia sich entwickelt. Ihre Familie und Freunde finde ich interessant. Bei ihrem Vater bin ich hin und hergerissen und kann mich immer noch nicht so wirklich entscheiden, was ich denn nun von ihm halten soll. Bei seiner Frau und gleichzeitig Emilias neuer Stiefmutter weiß ich jetzt schon, dass ich sie nicht leiden kann. Sie ist ein intrigantes Miststück. Ich bin auf ihre weiteren Machenschaften gespannt und bin neugierig wie Emilia mit ihr umgehen wird. Emilias Stiefschwester finde ich einfach nur großartig. Sie ist so eine offene Person und einzigartig. Dank ihr musste ich einige male grinsen. Ihr Bruder ist eher das Gegenteil. Bisher habe ich ihn noch nicht ganz durchschaut. Er ist ein Badboy. Man merkt auch jetzt schon seine weiche Seite, weswegen ich gespannt bin, wie er sich noch entwickeln wird. Bisher würde ich sagen, passt das zwischen Emilia und ihm sehr gut. Ich hoffe, dass ihre Beziehung noch etwas tiefgründiger wird. Auch bin ich gespannt, wie sich die Beziehung mit ihrem besten Freund weiter entwickeln wird. Immerhin gab es in diesem Band einige Vorfälle.
Fazit: Gelungener Reihenauftakt! Wer nach einer neuen Prinzessinengeschichte sucht ist hier genau richtig! Hier geht es um Macht, Intrigen, Familienproblemen und auch ein bisschen um Liebe. Es ist ein bisschen wie „Plötzlich Prinzessin“ für Erwachsene. Der zweite Teil „Golden Throne“ erscheint am 27.11.2020 bei LYX und ich kann es kaum erwarten!

Ich habe das Buch auf jeden Fall geliebt!
Es war so so spannend von der Thematik her und hat mich einfach komplett gefesselt. Die Charaktere sind auf unterschiedliche Weise unglaublich interessant und die Protagonistin benahm sich zwar manchmal etwas stur und dramatisch aber ich finde das war auch passend zu ihrer Situation und wirkte nicht nervig. Bei der Liebesgeschichte hat man das knistern zwischen den beiden komplett wahrgenommen.
Ich kann’s gar nicht erwarten zu erfahren, wie es im zweiten Band weitergeht! 😍

Das 'Silver Crown' von Julie Johnson was ganz besonderes ist, merkt bereits auf den ersten Seiten. Dort findet sich ein Vorwort der Autorin wieder, in der sie auf super charmante Art in die Story einleitet. Und der Eindruck wird immer stärker, umso mehr Seiten man ließt.
Als erstes springt einem der tolle Schreibstil ins Auge. Die Worte fließen praktisch an einem vorbei - Ich habe das Buch ohne es einmal aus der Hand zu legen durchgelesen.
Dann wäre da noch die Story. Zunächst mag man denken: Ach alles schon mal gelesen oder gesehen.
Aber wie schafft es die Autorin dann mich so zu begeistern?
Weil die Story eben doch ganz anders ist, als alle Prinzessinnen Filme auf Netflix. Sie ist düsterer. Voller Intrigen. Machtspielchen. Sexy. Und sie hat Carter...
Hach, Carter. Kennt ihr diesen Bookboyfriend, der super verwegen, sexy und zugleich super gefühlvoll ist? Das ist Carter. Ich liebe es, wenn jemand zugleich ein Bad-Boy ist, die Beziehung aber trotzdem nicht toxisch ist und er die Dame seines Herzens NICHT schlecht behandelt.

In einem Moment ist sie noch eine stinknormale Psychologiestudentin, doch als der König verunglückt, steht die Zukunft der Monarchie auf der Kippe und Emilia soll plötzlich Kronprinzessin werden. Dass ihr Vater sich in den letzten zwanzig Jahren ihres Lebens nicht um sie gekümmert hat, macht das Ganze nicht besser.
Emilia ist alles andere als begeistert von ihrer neuen Rolle. Sie hasst es, dass ihr Vater, der zukünftige König (eines fiktiven Königreichs), sich plötzlich erdreistet, so wichtige Entscheidungen für sie zu treffen und ihrem bisherigen Leben damit ein Ende zu setzen. Die ganze Situation lässt sie verzweifeln und sie fühlt sich auch ganz auf sich allein gestellt, sie will nicht Prinzessin sein, sie will ihren Vater nicht, sie will eigentlich nur ihre Ruhe haben. Trotzdem ist sie auch keine allzu rebellische Person, sondern hat eher ein zartes, verletzliches Gemüt.
Schon sehr bald lernt sie nicht nur ihre herrische Stiefmutter und ihre ziemlich nette, wenn auch meist berauschte Stiefschwester kennen, sondern auch ihren neuen Stiefbruder Carter, den sie auch noch unfassbar attraktiv findet. Das Buch ist also nicht nur Royal-Romance, sondern auch noch eine Stiefgeschwister-Liebesgeschichte.
Ich glaube, mein größtes Problem mit dem Buch war schon, dass es einfach zu kurz war. Der Anfang - das Kennenlernen mit Carter - zog sich schon etwas zu sehr in die Länge, danach ging aber alles sehr schnell, vor allem die Beziehung der beiden entwickelte sich viel zu rasant. Es gibt aber ein paar heiße Momente, witzige und ernste Szenen und besonder Emilia habe ich schnell ins Herz geschlossen, auch wenn sie mir ein bisschen zu viel rumheult.
Fazit
"Silver Crown" hat mir schon ganz gut gefallen und ich konnte es innerhalb weniger Stunden lesen, weil es locker und auch unterhaltsam ist. Allerdings hat sich die Liebesgeschichte zu schnell entwickelt und ein bisschen mehr Tiefe hätte auch nicht geschadet.

Ein Buch, das einfach nach mir gerufen hat. Ich hatte es nie auf meiner Wunschliste, aber als ich es gesehen habe, musste ich es einfach unbedingt kaufen und lesen. Und ich wurde zum Glück nicht enttäuscht! "Silver Crown" von Julie Johnson ist mein erstes Buch von der Autorin und wird definitiv nicht mein letztes gewesen sein.
Das Cover spricht mich optisch nur wenig an. Es überzeugt mit grazilen Details und seiner Schlichtheit. Ich finde zudem, dass es schön zu den weiteren Teilen der Trilogie passt. Den Titel finde ich ebenfalls eher weniger ansprechend, doch von beidem sollte man sich nicht abschrecken lassen. Der Inhalt überzeugt umso mehr!
Zu Beginn des Buches hat die Autorin ein Vorwort geschrieben, welches stark mein Interesse an dem Buch geweckt hat. Obwohl ich dünne Bücher wie "Silver Crown" meide, konnte es mich komplett packen. Meist fehlt mir bei Büchern mit wenigen Seiten der Tiefgang, doch in diesem Buch war dem nicht so. Die Handlung beginnt sanft und ist von einen Moment auf den nächsten völlig überwältigend. Im positiven Sinne! Die Geschichte konnte mich fesseln und mitreißen. Ich habe gelacht, gehofft und geweint. Ich habe die Geschichte schlichtweg genossen! Es war erfrischend und spannend. Es gab Geheimnisse, die noch immer nicht ganz gelüftet wurden, viel Leidenschaft und Intrigen, aber auch Momente, in denen die Charaktere Gefühle zugelassen haben. Zusammenfassend alles, was für mich ein tolles Buch ausmacht!
Die Charaktere mochte ich eigentlich alle ganz gerne. Emilia war mir sympathisch und wirkte authentisch. In Carter kann man sich nur verlieben! Er wird sehr unnahbar und heiß dargestellt. Ich bin mir sicher, dass er nicht nur Emilias Herz brechen wird. Die Nebencharaktere haben mir ebenfalls gefallen!
Der Schreibstil der Autorin war richtig gut. Ich habe das Buch am Stück gelesen und wollte gar nicht mehr aus der Geschichte auftauchen. Ich werde sicherlich weitere Bücher von der Autorin lesen!
Insgesamt habe ich das Buch inhaliert! Es gehört zu meinen Lesehighlights 2020. So schnell werde ich die Geschichte bestimmt nicht vergessen. Ich kann es euch empfehlen, wenn ihr nicht zu viel Drama erwartet und Interesse an einer lockeren und fesselnden Geschichte habt. Auf die Fortsetzungen "Golden Throne" und "Diamond Empire" bin ich ziemlich neugierig!
Das Cover spricht mich optisch nur wenig an. Es überzeugt mit grazilen Details und seiner Schlichtheit. Ich finde zudem, dass es schön zu den weiteren Teilen der Trilogie passt. Den Titel finde ich ebenfalls eher weniger ansprechend, doch von beidem sollte man sich nicht abschrecken lassen. Der Inhalt überzeugt umso mehr!
Zu Beginn des Buches hat die Autorin ein Vorwort geschrieben, welches stark mein Interesse an dem Buch geweckt hat. Obwohl ich dünne Bücher wie "Silver Crown" meide, konnte es mich komplett packen. Meist fehlt mir bei Büchern mit wenigen Seiten der Tiefgang, doch in diesem Buch war dem nicht so. Die Handlung beginnt sanft und ist von einen Moment auf den nächsten völlig überwältigend. Im positiven Sinne! Die Geschichte konnte mich fesseln und mitreißen. Ich habe gelacht, gehofft und geweint. Ich habe die Geschichte schlichtweg genossen! Es war erfrischend und spannend. Es gab Geheimnisse, die noch immer nicht ganz gelüftet wurden, viel Leidenschaft und Intrigen, aber auch Momente, in denen die Charaktere Gefühle zugelassen haben. Zusammenfassend alles, was für mich ein tolles Buch ausmacht!
Die Charaktere mochte ich eigentlich alle ganz gerne. Emilia war mir sympathisch und wirkte authentisch. In Carter kann man sich nur verlieben! Er wird sehr unnahbar und heiß dargestellt. Ich bin mir sicher, dass er nicht nur Emilias Herz brechen wird. Die Nebencharaktere haben mir ebenfalls gefallen!
Der Schreibstil der Autorin war richtig gut. Ich habe das Buch am Stück gelesen und wollte gar nicht mehr aus der Geschichte auftauchen. Ich werde sicherlich weitere Bücher von der Autorin lesen!
Insgesamt habe ich das Buch inhaliert! Es gehört zu meinen Lesehighlights 2020. So schnell werde ich die Geschichte bestimmt nicht vergessen. YOU GUYS!!! OMG!! I am still trying to catch my breath from the amazing ride that was Julie Johnson's Dirty Halo. Holy Crap was this an amazing amazing start to what I already know will be a truly phenomenal series. I could not get enough and am seriously DYING for book two!!
Without giving away any spoilers, when Emilia Lancaster is discovered to be the illegitimate heir of the reigning king, her whole life is in disarray. She is now forced to wade through an ocean of political treachery, secrets and lies as she comes to terms with her new life. But as she is further entrenched as the new princess, she has to determine who is friend, foe, ally and enemy before a dangerous assassin succeeds in a second deadly attack.
GAH!! I am so so hooked on this series and read it in one sitting. I am obssessed with Emilia's sass and personality. She is the quintessential badass heroine we all love and gives as good as she gets. But every heroine needs her match and Lord Carter Thorne is that in spades. He is sexy, sinful, delicious and exactly the man who knows how to dish out what Emilia serves. I seriously cannot wait for Torrid Throne because that ENDING?! OMG!! I could write an entire review about all the things that bothered me while reading this story. But I won't.
The only thing I'm going to say is that the Hero wasn't my kind of Hero. He's a typically manwhore. And he's so immature that he has to tell the Heroine that he spent the night with 3 swedish supermodels and wants to meet them again only because he saw that the Heroine standing with another man. This behaviour from a man who's near his 30ties. So charming!
And I found it a bit gross that the first (and only) time they had sex it was unprotected. Heroine says "It's okay, I'm on the pill" and on they go. Yeah, and some days before that he spend the night with 3 different women. So not what I want to read about.

full of Cliche with a little bit wibe of Soap opera. some parts were lovely and exciting. but the others were not good enough. again - the writer rushed things too much. It seems like they all forgot how to build and write something slowly and gradually. the charecters don't need to reveal their emotions so quickly. slow burn! its the key word. the idea of the book is great. the potential is there. but the writing should have been better.

Schönes Buch mit nem tollen Schreibstil. Jedoch passt der „Spoilertext“ der Autorin irgendwie so gar nicht zum Inhalt des Buches. Sternabzug für die Vorhersehbarkeit der Handlung!

Ich habe mich im Vorhinein schon so auf dieses Buch gefreut!
Das Cover ist ein Traum, mehr kann man dazu nicht sagen. Alle Bände sehen einfach schön aus.
Inhaltlich hat mir das Buch ebenfalls gefallen. Der Schreibstil von Julie Johnson ist sehr angenehm und flüssig.
Die Idee von einer jungen Frau, die plötzlich Kronprinzessin wird, obwohl sie mit der Monarchie gar nichts zu tun haben will, war ebenfalls ziemlich gut.
Carter fand ich von Anfang an interessant. Ich denke, dass man über ihn noch nicht alles weiß. 👀
Insgesamt ein guter Start für diese Trilogie, der Lust auf mehr macht. Es gibt aber auch noch Luft nach oben!

Wow!!! I started this book last night and couldn’t put it down. But I had to sleep. lol I loved it! Emilia and Carter...hot damn!! I can not wait to see what happens between them and the kingdom.
Funny how you search for days/weeks for a book to pull you in and come up empty.
Then one night when I’m just browsing and not really expecting to find something to read that I finally find a book that grabs me right away. It grabbed me and didn’t let go. lol
***I stare at the stranger in the mirror. Her wild hair, uncharacteristically coiled. Her lush mouth, unusually solemn. Cloaked in sadness the royal jewels cannot disguise. Wreathed in a destiny she is unequipped to embrace. She holds a nation’s fate within her shaking hands. She wears a crown that never should’ve been hers. A golden lie. A dirty halo.***

Sexistisch, unrealistisch und absolut langweilig. Ich hatte mit nicht einer Person auch nur annähernd Empathie. Das einzige, was gut an diesem Buch war, war die Grundidee.

What an interesting concept woven through the pages of the newest romance in the Julie Johnson collection. I loved the reader's note and prologue; how they provide a springboard for this author to take readers on her unconventional spin of a fairy-tale. The characters are luminous led by Johnson's signature brand of snarky, loveable heroine. This time though she delves into a darker, troubled anti-hero who becomes someone we least expect. The idea she's put into play in Dirty Halo gives us a new, exciting take on a familiar trope and it works great for these characters and the construct of the story Johnson tells.
However, I'd be remiss if I didn't share why I couldn't rate this book 5 stars, because I really wanted to do just that. After that prologue, the first 30% left me questioning much of it. It's just too wonky in the beginning, a direct contrast to the tightness and agility of the storytelling for rest of the book. There's holes and contradictions that I unfortunately didn't find believable in that first third. Johnson hits her stride though and after that point and then I fell in love.
Being a trilogy you can expect some questions left lingering at the end but this first installment doesn't stop in an uncomfortable place. It feels exactly right to end here, the anticipation for the next installment sweetening the deal. The tension between all of the characters is palpable and provides just the right amount of angst. Each character gives readers something to love about them yet still provide such a cloud of mystery.
There's passion and conviction in Dirty Halo. It really shows the breadth of Julie Johnson's creativity and fervor for her world building within the constructs of romance. Her memorable characters round out a solid, entertaining read. I can't wait for book 2 to see where she takes us next.

Silver Crown ist ein schönes Buch für Zwischendurch, aber für mich leider nichts Besonderes.
Bereits von Anfang an hat mir der Schreibstil der Autorin gut gefallen & sie konnte die Atmosphäre gewisser Situationen sehr gut einfangen! Außerdem war dies endlich mal ein Buch, indem man die Charaktere mehr über ihren Dialog mit anderen Charakteren als durch Beschreibungen kennen lernen konnte, das hat mir wirklich gut gefallen! Auch Emilia fand ich insgesamt sehr sympathisch. Carter war eher geheimnisvoll & ich kann ihn noch überhaupt nicht einschätzen.
Die Storyline ist interessant, aber leider extrem vorhersehbar. Ich konnte mir fast alle Plottwists im Vorhinein denken - aber wenn wir mal ehrlich sind, man kann bei Royal Geschichten das Rad nicht mehr wirklich neu erfinden.
Dennoch hatte ich viel Spaß beim Lesen & freue mich auf Band 2 😍

Holy Dirty Halo! I was so excited for this book and it completely blew me away! Julie Johnson has this crazy ability to write like magic. It's as if every word is chosen for maximum impact and entertainment but she makes it look completely effortless. Dirty Halo immediately sucked me and held me captive until the very end. Actually no, it's still holding me. I feel this book hangover will last a while. This Royal family is insane and amazing and just wow! I cannot wait to read more of this series! Seriously, can I get the next book like right now?!
