Tap That Brewery #1

Pitcher Perfect

Rate this book
When a workaholic brewer and a lonely chef team up to win a prestigious food and beer competition, they might find the perfect pairing in each other.

Austin
Me and my friends knew that when we joined forces to open Tap That Brewery, we needed to do more than just make great brews to break into the crowded Oregon beer scene. When we get an opportunity to enter a beer and food pairing competition, I know our best bet is to join forces with Caleb, a.k.a. the cute as hell new food truck chef in town. The brewery keeps me too busy to date, but I can’t ignore his sexy sincerity or disarming smile. Spoiler alert: My feelings are growing faster than the head of foam on a badly poured beer.

Caleb
It’s hard to be a newcomer in a charming small town like Dahlia Springs. I’m determined to live my dream of upgrading my food truck to a restaurant, and I even found the perfect space. But the cantankerous owner is reluctant to trust an outsider. Maybe teaming up with the local queer brewery is just what I need to prove I’m here for the long haul. The problem is, Austin, the adorable brewer who likes chefs about as much as food poisoning, also happens to be the key ingredient to the family I’ve been craving.

Pitcher Perfect is a low angst, steamy, and sweet MM contemporary romance about two men who discover they’re the perfect pairing. It’s the first in the Tap That Brewery series, which features four best friends who co-own a queer brewery together. It’s full of teasing as a love language, found family, more f-bombs than necessary, and a small town you'll wish you could visit. Each book can be read as a standalone, though you may find it most enjoyable to read the series in order. Happily ever afters are guaranteed, and no cliffhangers!

Pitcher Perfect was a super low angst book that was a nice autumn read.

Our MCs have a nerdy meet cute at a stationary and ink store in Portland but both get pulled away before they have a chance to exchange numbers.

The man held up brown and blue ink bottles. “Which one of these do you think is best suited to send the message of ‘If you leave your dog’s shit on the sidewalk in front of my place one more time, I’m going to hide a dead fish in your car’?”

Months later, they’ve kind of resigned themselves to the fact that they will never see each other again, but they certainly both keep thinking back to the moment they met and the stranger that got away.

The two finally get their kismet moment when they meet again after Caleb moves to a small town with his food truck and it happens to be the small town that Austin is from and owns a brewery in with his friends.
Austin’s friends convince him that he should compete in a Portland Pairing competition with Caleb (he hasn’t seen Caleb yet again and doesn’t realize that the food truck owner they are encouraging him to compete with is actually his mystery man from the stationary store).
Austin agrees to meet with Caleb and is shocked to find the man he can’t keep his mind off sitting in front of him.

In their heads the two really do try to keep things casual because they don’t want to fuck anything up before the competition but they both do a horrible job at keeping their distance from each other.

He looked so fucking good in my kitchen. I wanted him there regularly. I wanted to cook for him, cook with him, pretend like we were watching shows but make out on the couch. I wanted to get to know him and take care of him.

The pace of the book is slow moving, maybe because it is low angst and their isn’t much of a plot to follow other than the timeline of the characters preparing for the competition, the competition itself and then the conclusion afterward. That being said, it was never so slow to the point that I felt like I was bored.

It’s definitely a cute story and if you’re one for missed connections that find each other once again then this might be a fun read for you too.

Very sweet, no angst, and good banter.

This didn't feel as long as it seemed it would be given the page count. In fact I kind of don't believe this was actually 350 pages? I think the light and funny tone contributed to this. Admittedly some of the banter is a bit cheesy, but it worked for me and though I was a bit fuzzy on the character ages, it did seem consistent from a bunch of guys who roomed together at college and then moved back in together to start their business.

Caleb and Austin are good together, it was nice how they stand up for each other, and understand that they both need to devote time to work on their businesses but that they'll find ways to carve out time for each other. They both had understandable insecurities about relationships and nothing seemed blown out of proportion as relationship-pasts often are in the genre.

I liked the good communication, they're briefly wishy-washy about not getting into anything serious while they're so busy, but don't let it become a thing and instead talk it out like adults. Good stuff.

I'm glad that there wasn't some .

This is the 3rd book I've read by Lee Blair and am happy so far with the reliably funny and low angst reads, where there's little drama or frustrating moments. I'll definitely be reading on!

While in Portland for the day with his best friends and co-owners of the Tap That Brewery, Austin shares an unparalleled interaction with a handsome guy in a stationary store. He's never met a guy that doesn't think his affinity for physical notebooks etc to be charming. Until today. Of course a poorly timed phone call for the other guy and the arrival of Austin's friend kinda keeps them from sharing phone numbers. Oh well.
Back in Dahlia Springs, handsome stationary man, Caleb is working at his food truck in front of the coffee shop selling breakfast sandwiches. The pair reconnect through the suggestion that Caleb and the brewery work together on the Perfect Pairing food and beer competition. Caleb and Austin reconnect and try to keep things professional but their growing feelings can't be ignored.

Y'all this book is cute. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm enjoying the Dahlia Springs universe quite a bit. I did find some of the cock blocking from Austin's friends to be irritating (like Ty showing up and knocking on the car door (AND THEN OPENING IT) when they're getting home from a "date" to interrupt a kiss) to be exhausting and annoying considering how hard the brewery boys are trying to get the two together. I'm eager to read the rest of this series though. The rest of the brewery boys are fun and I'm looking forward to seeing them happy. There was seeding for boy Ethan's fake dating story and Dom's second chance story to come.

Shout-out to "Stuff your Kindle" day- because I had never heard of this book or this author, but because I was able to grab this one for free, I fell in love with her and have now read all of her books!

The "Tap That Brewery" series is so much fun. It is relatively low-angst- and book 2 in particular is high heat and VERY hot. This first book, "Pitcher Perfect," is a little more tame, and feels like a warm hug on an autumn day. I just sank into it and enjoyed every second!

I will say that as this series went on, it got better and better, and the reason for that was the found family of friends that run the Brewery. As you get to know them in book after book, you cannot help but fall a little more for them. The text threads are HILARIOUS- and the loyalty they have for one another is unmatched. I really enjoy friend groups and banter in books, and this series delivered in spades.

This is Austin and Caleb's story, but more than just their romance it is the story of a group of queer men running a brewery in Oregon. They met in college (some have been friends longer, even-) and decided to open this business together. The vibes are vibing-- and that was part of what I loved so much about this book. Do you like the sounds of a small town with a strong LGBTQ presence, with food trucks and a killer brewery and all the fall, homemade food, local market type feels? I want to move to Dahlia Springs, just saying.

Austin is the mastermind behind the "brewing" portion of the business. He comes up with and brews all of their beer. He meets Caleb at the beginning of the book in the most adorable "meet cute" situation, but never gets his name- and is kicking himself after for letting the opportunity fly through his fingers. Of course, they meet again when Caleb is opening up his food truck business in Dahlia Springs- and they end up pairing up to compete in a local food/beer tasting competition.

It is as wholesome as it sounds.... Hallmark style romance but in the fall... but the writing is good and that elevates it to something with more substance. Although both have some baggage (Caleb is a caregiver and tends to give in relationships to the point where he burns out)-- and Austin has some issues with his parents in his past that cause him to avoid commitment by working himself to the bone, always feeling like he needs to prove something and is never good enough. But, of course, things work out in the end without much drama at all, and it is adorable and sweet in the best way.

I did find myself very curious about the other guys- I could tell that their books might add a little more pizzazz to the whole picture, and I was right when it came to "Eternal Hoptimist-" Book two- which depicts Ethan's story and whoa is that one exciting. I found that I actually liked Austin and Caleb more and more as I viewed them across the series as a whole, and that the more I got to know them the more I loved the way they fit in with the group and contributed to the friendships and the business.

I will be reviewing the other 2 books in this series in the next few days! Loved them all.

Pitcher Perfect is pretty much exactly as described – a low angst, falling in love story about a brewer and a food truck owner. The background characters were sweet and funny, and the storyline was fine. I learned a lot about brewing and what goes into it which was interesting, and the relationship that built between Caleb and Austin was sweet. The towns-people were fun, as were the guys who lived together – some of the pranks, chats and things they did made me smile widely. This is book one in a new series which I imagine will feature the other brewers mentioned in the story.

If you’re in the mood for something gentle and easy to read, I would imagine this would be a great read.

I received an ARC from GRR.

A chef and a brewer team up for a culinary competition and sparks fly against the backdrop of an idyllic Oregon town– what’s not to like about that? This story has likable characters, a fun premise, and an emotionally-driven romance that has some heat as well. Austin and Caleb fit together beautifully, and while it’s not exactly always smooth sailing, they eventually get the promise of the happily-ever-after they so richly deserve.

It’s hard to overstate the degree to which Austin’s estranged relationship with his parents, especially his famous chef father, has shaped who he is and how he approaches life: he’s in his thirties, and it feels as though, rather than dulling the effects of his fathers’ choices on his personality, the time has only ossified them. As a result, he’s skittish about commitment, overworks to avoid confronting his feelings, and feels like he’ll never be good enough– all serious obstacles to building anything serious with Austin. Initially, this is especially concerning given that Caleb’s past has shaped him into a caretaker without much of a support-system of his own: it would have been easy for Austin’s issues to push him into being one in a long line of love interests who takes more than he gives. To Austin’s credit, though, while he kind of starts down that route, he pulls himself up before it gets too far, and their unfolding relationship is built not just on one-sided gestures but on a system of mutual support and respect–personal and professional, as well as some awesome chemistry. It helps that they share an intense work ethic, a commitment to small town life (shudder…but to each their own) and a comfortably nerdy affinity for journals and pens (I don’t know why that’s adorable, but it is). As an added bonus, Austin’s friends and co-owners are all fascinating in their own ways, and, I suspect, destined for stories of their own, so hopefully we’ll get to see more of Dahlia Springs and its residents.

This popped up on Stuff Your Kindle Day! MM romance? A brewery owner? A food truck owner? And the title is a cute pun?

Sold.

This was absolutely adorable! If you're looking for a cute, low-drama MM love story, I totally recommend you come meet Austin and Caleb!

And the best part: it's the first book in a series of 3! Austin is the co-owner of a brewing company with 3 of his best friends (Tyler, Dom, Ethan)... Ethan's book is available now. And I literally just found out 20 minutes before writing this review: Ty's book is coming out in October!

Back to this particular book... I loved how the author wrote the couple. Their simple but swoony mannerisms are so sweet, so natural. Their interactions, joking with one another... you can't help but root for them.

This is dual-POV, and I adore that. I love seeing what was going on inside their heads, and gosh... it was precious seeing them stress over the exact same thing when it came to starting a relationship.

There is some spice, and it's beautiful seeing these two love each other on such a deep level, something they both have never experienced before.

Don't forget: there is an extra epilogue/scene you can download!

First off, let me say that found families are some of my absolute favorite book tropes. I can’t get enough of folks finding their tribe, whether blood related or not. That is what drew me to this book in the first place: a band of brothers of the heart who have followed their dream of opening a brewery and a safe place together. Caleb and Austin are absolute perfection! These two grabbed me by the heart strings and did not let go. I devoured this book. I couldn’t put it down. Austin has father and abandonment issues while Caleb has problem solver issues. They both have their baggage but they also both recognize that they have the potential for something long lasting together and don’t let go of that. This is a low angst HEA full of great food, equally great beer, and even better friends. I can’t wait to see their tribe grow as the other three guys of Tap That Brewery find their forever partners.

A busy head brewer meets an equally busy food truck owner with designs on opening a restaurant. Could this be the perfect pairing?

I thought this book was just amazing. I loved how Austin and Caleb met and then were able to reconnect after their missed opportunity. Austin’s found family and co-owners of the brewery were just so awesome and I can’t wait to find out more about them. I loved Caleb’s family as well and the way he tried to help everyone around him.

The whole relationship between the two of them was so sweet and caring and they both helped the other to develop and it was just so well done. I loved this book and couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait for the rest of the series now!

This one was cute! I really liked the small town setting, liked the brewery and the guys running it. Their family vibe worked for them. You would think it would be hard to break into things for Caleb, but it wasn't too bad. There was the cute meeting with Austin and then again when they realized they didn't loose their chance. The contest sort of forced the together, which I think they both needed. That gave them common ground to talk and learn more about each other. Neither of them held back and they pretty much were in a relationship with out admitting it to themselves. It was fun to see how the contest went and how the guys helped Caleb get his in to start his own dream. Loved how this one end, good news and happy endings all around!

This was a cute, sweet read. This is the first in a series about four friends. Austin is a co-owner of a brewery and Caleb the owner of a food truck. They made a cute team. I loved the side characters. I love found families. The story was engaging, and the characters were well developed. Overall, a great read! The story was really well written, the pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. This is a super low angst slow burn romance that’s just a slice of sweetness! It’s also small town and exactly what you expect, but I read it for that fact you know? I wanted something predictable and I got it😂😂 in the best way!

I’m excited to read who the rest of the friends end up with! Sunshine Ethan is next!

I'm a fan. Not only because this kind of story is right up my alley, but also because I'm new to this author and felt they wove a supremely sweet story without the forced conflict many authors use. I found both men engaging and worth getting to know, they were relatable and believable. The story as well as the set up for the next was very well done and I'll definitely be back for more from the men of Tap That Brewery and the town of Dahlia Springs.

I love a small town, found family, meet cute, low angst, slow burn story with a HEA!

And Pitcher Perfect delivers on all these fronts - I loved the group of friends running a brewery (their group texts are especially funny!) and the story of Austin and Caleb falling for each other in a stationary shop, only to reconnect months later made for a great read.

It is a great story and a wonderful start to a series that I will most definitely read.

Pitcher Perfect is lovely. Austin and Caleb have great chemistry, I love all of the descriptions of the food and beer, and the small town Oregon setting is charming. Austin is the head brewer at Tap That Brewery, a queer-friendly microbrewery he owns with his best friends. He’s passionate about his job and hasn’t had a lot of success with relationships. Caleb, a food truck chef, moves to Dahlia Springs with the hope of opening his own restaurant. The two team up for Portland Pairing, a competition where chefs team with brewers to create beer and food pairings. After being abandoned by his celebrity chef father when he was a child, Austin is reluctant to get involved with anyone romantically, especially a chef, but Caleb is really patient with him. They’re really sweet together and build a solid foundation of friendship where they support and take care of each other. Austin’s best friends and business partners add a lot to the story and provide comic relief at times. It’s a really sweet story of found family. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

I loved this book, I really did. Austin just wanted to prove he was good too without realizing he didn't need to do it, they all appreciated his efforts and loved him as he was. I tell you, family can really screw us up. Caleb was so lovely, I loved him and his patiente with Austin, he liked him and he was there for him no matter what. Austin was there for him too, they were so cute. I can't wait to read more from this series

story was kind of long-winded... also, i think that the focus of the story seems to be more on the characters' job instead of their connection and relationship with each other. so the connection comes off really weak in a way.

I haven't read very many book by Lee, so I didn't really know what to expect. I haven't read too many books featuring a MC who was a brewer, so that was really interesting to me.

First off I want to start by saying I absolutely loved the comradery between Austin, Ethan, Dom, and Ty. The bond all of those guys have really shines through the pages of this book; furthermore, you can feel how much they care for one another. Yes, they tease each other mercilessly, but that's just cause they love each other that much. One of my favorite scenes in this book is when they had a team meeting and told Austin that if he was getting run down or burnt out that he needed to tell them. Cause they are a team, but they are also family. I thought that scene was really special.

I really enjoyed how their friendship and bond made you feel that closeness through the pages, it also brought the comedy aspect as well as a really strong found family element. And once Caleb was accepted into their group? He added a whole other dynamic, he fit right in, almost instantly!

I adored the slow burn, this book was pretty low angst, but it definitely had a very slow burn, which I really enjoyed. It gave time for the two MC'S feelings fully develop and for them to get to know each other more than they did.

Besides the writing of the characters and background being great, the amount of detail that went into describing not only Austin's job as a brewer, but the detail of describing Caleb's job as well was truly extraordinary. I love reading about a character cooking, so I really adored this book. I'm really glad that was so predominant in this book. Sometimes I feel in other books, a character will say they have a job, but then we never actually get the character doing their job. That didn't happen here. We got full details and thorough explanations of each of their professions. Which I really respect, and appreciate.

As I mentioned the romance that transpired between Austin and Caleb was a slow burn, but it was so sweet. And honestly it worked really well for the,. I don't think their relationship being rushed would've felt right, or true to them.

I'm shocked by how many side characters piqued my interest; it's not just Dom, Ethan, and Ty, but also Seth, Parker and now Hayden as well. I hope I get to learn more about those characters as this series progresses. I'm off to dive into book two!

Pitcher Perfect was the low angst love story I needed after a few dark reads! This friends to lovers, workplace, small town romance is the first in a series about four queer brewery owners and it was a ton of fun to read.

Austin Hewitt is the head brewer at Tap That Brewery and he loves his job, so much so that he’s given everything to it for the past year to help make the brewery a success. He’s driven, a little shy and incredibly sweet. His backstory and his relationship with his parents made my heart break a little bit, but I loved that his aunt and uncle stepped in and that he formed such a strong relationship with his cousin, Tyler, and the two other co-owners of Tap That - Dom and Ethan.

Caleb Larsen is a food truck owner who’s in Dahlia Springs looking for a place to call home and to connect with his mother’s roots. He’s determined to open his own restaurant in town and keeps putting himself out there so that the owner of the space will give him a chance. Caleb is a fixer - always trying to make sure the people he cares about are taken care of and their problems are solved, which has been a sticking point in his past relationships.

Austin and Caleb meet in a paper store in Portland and bonded over their mutual love for good quality notebooks, ink and analog processes but they missed their chance to exchange numbers. Months later, they both find themselves in the same small town, brought together by their friends to enter a food and beer pairing competition. They become friends first and it’s a slow build to them becoming more and even that takes a while for them to accept. They’re really sweet together and understand/appreciate each other’s drive to be successful and achieve their goals. I loved how they collaborated so easily for the competition and how Caleb had Austin’s back even when he came face-to-face with his idol who just so happened to be Austin’s estranged father.

Austin’s co-brewery owners were hilarious and made this story a lot of fun - I can’t wait to get to know them more in the rest of this series! They were so supportive of Austin and Caleb’s relationship even before it happened and I can’t wait to see them all happy. I didn’t love that Austin’s problems with his dad were wrapped up so easily and that both Austin and Caleb continually compare each other to their past failed relationships.

Really looking forward to the rest of the Tap That Brewery series after reading Pitcher Perfect! I already know Dom’s story is going to be a ton of fun to read next!
