The only rules: No strings and no feelings allowed. That's easy enough, right? Right??!

Body Checked is a full-length contemporary hockey romance full of snarky banter, sizzling chemistry, and all the will they/won't they lusty feelings of frenemies-to-lovers. This is book two in the Astoria Bay Thunder series by CJ Cartwright. Each installment is standalone and features a different couple, however they have recurring characters so it's best to read in order.
Body Checked is the second book in the Astoria Bay Thunder series by C.J. Cartwright. This is a frenemies to lovers contemporary sports romance with hockey, banter, humour, chemistry, sizzle, emotion, angst, push-pull, trust issues, and a little drama. This is Bridger and Tia’s story, whom we met in the first book (as secondary characters). Bridger is known for being quite the player, both on and off the ice. Tia has sworn off the playboy types for good. But the chemistry between them is intense and the sparks fly. Add in a wild weekend that results in a bit of an obsession, a few tricky little feelings that creep in, and some push-pull angst- and we have captivating story! Can’t wait for more Astoria Bay Thunder! Happy reading!
Bridger has the reputation of the playboy hockey star, and he is happy with that, the self-proclaimed bachelor but when his persona is affecting his career, he become more adamant to try and shed the fast life image and concentrate on growing up and being much more. So, when he is asked to set up a team charity calendar, how hard can it be?
Tia has had enough of rich playboys, after the last one tried to destroy her, she is wanting a quiet life, until she is plunged into the world of hockey. Her boss is shooting the calendar for the Astoria Bay Hockey Team and when she runs into Bridger her world goes slightly off centre, the chemistry between them is great but he irritates the crap out of her and he is in the “Playboy” category which she is wanting to stay away from, but can she?
I love a good hockey story, and this does not disappoint, the interaction between the main character is great to read. I love a good frenemies story and the chemistry between these two is electric, with the insecurities that comes from both main characters just adds another dimension in to a great story. I loved that this book can be read as stand alone within the series and I can guarantee that I will be reading more in this series and by this author.
This is the 2nd book in the Astoria Bay Thunder Series. I’m a huge sucker for a hockey romance since reading Helena Hunting’s Pucked Series and I loved the first book in this series and was so glad to finally get to read Bridger and Tia’s story. As this book is written in the same timeframe as the first book in the series we had seen Bridger and Tia in action before and I was so looking forward to getting their full story. Also with the same time frame it was great to re-live Levi and Brynn all over again and be reminded of their amazing story. I had adored Bridger in the first book and it was great getting to know the real him, not the Bridger that the outside world sees. He’s actually a very sweet adorable guy under the tough hockey enforcer exterior and I loved reading his and Tia’s story. As feisty as Tia comes across there’s a wounded, damaged young woman underneath just needing the right person to make her whole again. Definitely worth the 5 stars I’m giving it and I’m looking forward to getting to know more of the Astoria Bay Thunder guys sometime soon.
Bridger McKelty is in career crisis, his bad boy ways have caught up to him and the Astoria Thunder Hockey team are wondering if a trade is in the horizon. Wanting to clean up his act, his agent makes a few suggestions on how to transform Bridger into a reformed playboy. His first big task is organizing a calendar with his team for charity. The he meets Tia Ferris, she is the assistant to the photographer and peaks his interest. He should stay away but the sassy Tia makes it difficult to do so. As friends become something more Tia knows it is all going to crash around her, but could it be that this time she could be wrong?
There is a lot to this book especially when it comes to Tia's past. I thought the chemistry between Bridger and Tia was sizzling. They pull you in and you just keep turning the page of the book because you want to see what happens next. Terrific story.
Ugh, this book was sooooo good. I did not expect this to be as good as it was. This was nicely executed with the edgy sassy girl and the hunky player-athlete guy. In theory, the two shouldn't work out but they do and it was beautiful. Bridger was undeniably hot and I was obsessed with Tia and her sassy little attitude. I loved how she stood her ground and made the rules and not him yet he did such a good job continuing to respect her rules even when he disagreed with them and wanted to break them. AND don't get me started on the way he protected her from her ex cause, boyyyy am I a sucker for protective powerful men. This was a fun, slightly steamy fast-paced book in my opinion and I loved all of it.
I love a good hockey romance! Something about this sport and the men out there on the ice never fails to make an amazing story. Tia and Bridger had me falling in love with them individually and then even harder when they were together. Tia was a woman who made her own rules and did things her way. A poor history with men and ex's in general she is not looking for anything related to the male variety. Bridger being the sexy man on ice as well as the bad boy has had quite a history with women., and nothing reflecting well on his reputation. He and Tia meeting and going through the motions with each other takes them both out of their element with the attraction and pull they each feel. Deciding to be friends with benefits they venture down a dangerous road which will either lead to love or something neither of them want to think about it. This humorous, sexy, angsty, and steamy story will have you smiling from start to finish.
Once again C.J. Cartwright has managed to capture an audience! From start to finish there isn't one bad thing I can say about this book! The characters are wonderful and leap off the page, the reader really feels like they are in the book with the characters and the story is fantastic and relatable! Tia, she's a badass with rules... What are rules? Meant to be broken! Bridger he's the boy everyone talks about but with Tia he's soft and vulnerable! Together, together the story comes to life!
Steamy and sassy frenemies to lovers' sports romance is what Body Checked is about. The hot Astoria Bay Thunder hockey team are characters that you will fall in love with, well mostly. The battle of wills, the wit and their antics and back-and-forth banter make a fun read. I found myself laughing out loud. I really enjoyed the first book and this one was no different. I read it within a day. Sizzling chemistry, stubbornness, obsession, trust issues and of course hockey games had me turning page after page in this feel-good interesting tale that had me immersed in their world.
Bridger and Tia’s story beings with a no-strings-attached wild weekend. One weekend where sparks fly. Rules: No strings and no feelings allowed. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!
This is the first book I’ve read by C.J. Cartwright and I jumped into the second book in the Astoria Bay Thunder series. This is a frenemies-to-lovers trope with electric chemistry, witty banter, sass and steam and a little drama for extra sizzle while navigating their way through trust issues.
Bridger is the playboy hockey star who has had one too many indiscretions off the ice and fully embraces his persona. But then his career is in jeopardy so he’s gotta clean up his act! He is given a fixer to clean his image and made liaison for the Thunder Foundation. He has an idea that he thinks will bring the foundation a lot of money - a calendar shoot!
Tia has a past that has haunted her forever and clings on like an annoying spider whom she can never get all the slimy legs off her. Her ex - every time life seems to be going well he pops in and destroys her all over again. But she tries to live life to the fullest and not let him drag her down completely. So she heads to town to help out her best friend with a photo shoot and bam! she meets Bridger! Thinking she knows his type and has been with someone like him before she wants to avoid him! But their chemistry is off the charts so she decides to set ground rules for them and enjoy the fun weekend!
We all know rules are made to be broken sometimes! I liked seeing a different side to Bridger and getting to know the cute, sweet and adorable guy underneath the hockey persona he shows the world. You also get to see Tia in a different light - she has formed this shell of sass and feistiness that she shows the world but underneath is the young, damaged girl who gotten taken advantage of and just wants someone to see her for who she is and not judge her on the mistake she made. Again - the rules are broken and this leads to friends with benefits as they can’t control the attraction to one another. But does their story end in love or headed for disaster that could cause both of them pain and regret?
You’ll have to read and see! Here I go to jump back in and catch up on the first book in the series!
What words can I say about this book?! Let’s see: I Love. Followed by: it with an exclamation point. Let me talk about the reason I love the characters first. Tia is such a sass queen with Bridger. She also lets him know her rules up front, which we all know will backfire. Bridger is such a hunk who opens up enough to show Tia some of his vulnerability. He also does his best to stick to her rules, which I will remind you that we know will fail. When he wants her friendship? I would have swooned if I was in Victorian London. Now I’d like to get into the steamy spice. When I tell you it was SO HOT to me. In the absolute best ways. When I told my best friends some of my favorite lines regarding those moments (along with the premise, don’t worry), they let me know they have it queued up to buy. I will never think of a campsite the same way. If you know, you KNOW! Five star read for me.
Bridger is a hockey player with one too many indiscretions. He will lose his job if he doesn’t clean up his act. He is provided someone to manage his image and brand. He is also appointed as the liaison for the Thunder Foundation. It all seems to be working. Then at his photo shoot idea come to life, he meets Tia. He discovers he wants her bad. But having a Tia in his life is not on brand so he needs to deny himself. Or does he...?
Tia is in a crappy situation, and has been for a long time thanks to a poor decision made when she was younger. Her best friend needs help on her photo shoot so she agrees. She meets Bridger there and decides in absolutely no way can she get with him. She has already had someone of his type before and it didn’t go well. She then decides to toss in the proverbial towel and set some ground rules for a fun weekend. What can one weekend of giving in to temptation hurt?!.

Body Checked is the second book in the Astoria Bay Thunder series, and as with the first book, I loved it!!!
This time Bridger and Tia are sharing their road to HEA with us. They were introduced to us in the first book. Bridger is a teammate of Levi’s, and Tia is Brynn’s best friend. The fireworks between them were evident in the first book. Now, we get to see what was really happening that weekend of the calendar photo shoot. Levi and Brynn obviously weren’t the only ones having extra fun.
Bridger and Tia are both trying to change the course of their present lives due to mistakes in their pasts. So, hooking up wouldn’t be such a great idea, but the sexual chemistry is just too much to resist. They agree to a no strings, purely physical fling for just the weekend. Who knew the pull would go much deeper than just sex? Would they be able to overcome their pasts to have a happy future together?
Both Bridger and Tia made some really bad decisions in their pasts, and both are still paying for them, although Tia’s situation is more sinister. Both are complete opposites of Levi and Brynn, but they had the same kind hearts as their teammate and best friend. I really enjoyed getting to know them better. They were both complex and complicated, and I loved how Cartwright peeled back each layer with perfect timing.
Cartwright does indicate that parts of the storyline correlate with the first book, but there is also a good bit of the story that occurs before and after that weekend. In addition, it was interesting witnessing the weekend through their eyes. As with the first book, the author completely pulled me in and I was under her spell until the very last page. Looking forward to more in the series!
The second book in the Astoria Bay Thunder series is Bridger and Tia's tale, and what a journey they take you on.
Bridger's career is on the line, his playboy ways, bad press and his playing not being on par, has caught up with him and now he needs to do something. Wanting to help the team's Foundation, he suggests a team calendar. Taking the idea and running with he, the last thing expect was the photographer's sassy assistant.
Tia was in between jobs, due to and ex that is blackmailing her and ending any job potential before it gets started. This had her staying away from men, especially playboys, keeping her head down. When her friend, Brynn, asked her to help with the Thunder team calendar, she was excited for the chance and money, what she did not expect with the connection she had with Bridger.
Tia and Bridger's connection is electric and intense. Their pull toward each other is strong, but with each having their own trouble they decide to keep things quiet and simple, but that becomes difficult has feeling start to bloom.
Tia is a strong character, I love how she does not let Bridger get away with anything, she goes head-to-head with him, while also being their when thing take a turn. Family and media have beat down Bridger, that seeing the good in himself is hard, but when it comes to the people he loves and cares fore, Bridger is the most protective person out there.
Great addition to the series, I love how it starts out the same timeline of Levi and Brynn's story.

Body Checked is a sports romance about a hockey player, Bridger, who is struggling with his playboy persona, causing all sorts of issues with his career. People haven’t been taking him seriously because of all the problems he is causing, but he is trying to fix that. One idea he had was to do a fundraiser that involved the hockey players in a calendar shoot. This is the moment his life seems to change, when he meets the photographer’s assistant, Tia. Tia has recently been let go of her job due to complications with an ex-boyfriend. When she was younger she got caught up with a rich guy who made it his mission to destroy her life. When she meets Bridger she is instantly attracted, but has promised herself to never date another playboy again. They can’t seem to deny the attraction so they decide they will give themselves one weekend to get each other out of their system. This weekend turns into a friendship that could turn into more, but will they let it? Will the past allow them happiness? Would you give the other person up to save them? I always enjoy a sports romance with a little smut. I thought these characters were really loveable. Bridger, even playing an enforcer, was endearing. His need to protect others at all cost was sexy. The banter that the two of them have going from frenemies-to-lovers was really good. You could see the development of their relationship really well in who the author wrote. One of the things I think I liked most was that nothing seemed dragged out. The story flowed and when the “problem” came in, it was short and sweet and dealt with.
As an avid hockey fan this book is what all my dreams are made of. I mean who doesn’t want a hot hunky hockey player at their beck and call. This series is a must read if you want steamy romances with burly hockey players being brought to their knees by the only woman that can tame them.
Bridger is the playboy hockey hunk whose reputation precedes him, and not in a good way. Even possibly being labeled a liability to the team and one that could cost him the one thing he loves most in this world, playing hockey. He is put in touch with a social media manager to give him a new image even if that means making sacrifices. In walks Tia, who voluntarily is helping with a photo shoot, but she knows Bridger’s type and is not interested. However, they agree to a wild weekend as long as they both follow the rules and leave the strings unattached. Now Bridger will take Tia anyway he can get her even if it is just as friends. When Tia’s past comes into play which could ruin Bridger’s career will he fight to keep Tia in his life? Can Tia move past her past experiences to even see a future with Bridger?
When everything is on the line it is time to play all the cards and see who ends up on top. This is a frenemies to lovers romance that has all the steamy interludes you could want. I can’t wait to be introduced to the rest of the team as this series progresses and see just who turns these hockey players into putty in their hands.
An enjoyable and entertaining contemporary sports romance, with a frenemies to lovers theme. Professional hockey player and self proclaimed bachelor for life, Bridger McKelty is known as a player both on and off the ice, and he’s happy with both his lifestyle and his reputation. Tia Ferris is determined not to get involved with another unreliable playboy, but she’s not going to turn down a ‘no strings’ attached wild weekend with the sexy Bridger when the opportunity comes up. Both Tia and Bridger were very clear about the rules, one weekend, no strings, and no feelings allowed. The only problem is Bridger can’t stop thinking about Tia, and he realises his fling has turned into an obsession. Whilst Bridger has to decide how far he's willing to go to get what he wants, Tia is trying hard to stick to their rules, as she struggles with her trust issues. I happily read this as a standalone story, however the characters are recurring, and I’m now intrigued to read the previous book in the series. I loved Bridger and Tia and their battle of wills, as they fought both their feelings and each other. I loved the witty banter between them, and how their relationship developed from instant attraction to something deeper. The chemistry between them sizzled off the page and led to some steamy scenes. I felt immersed in the world of the Astoria Bay Thunder hockey team and I found the story entertaining and engaging, and I look forward to future books in this series.
I love this series! Body Checked is a wonderful sports romance. The dynamic and chemistry between Bridger and Tia is undeniable. There’s just some obstacles and secrets on the road to happiness. Nothing stays a secret forever, it always comes out. Unfortunately for Tia her secret is destroying her life even before meeting Bridger. Her ex-boyfriend won’t let her go, and takes great joy in destroying every aspect of her life. Which is why when she meets Bridger she keeps him at arm’s lengths as much as possible. Bridger is in turmoil on the ice and in his personal life. In jeopardy of losing everything, his agent goes into damage control mode to clean up his image. Neither he nor his agent ever expected Tia to come barreling into his life, changing everything. The author puts us on a rollercoaster of unrequited feelings and lust. The depiction of these two stubborn characters is perfect. There’s so much to lose for both of them, will they actually take a leap? Will Tia’s ex-boyfriend come rolling in again to ruin it all? I also really enjoyed how their story runs simultaneously with book one's story between Brynn and Levi. The best part is you don’t have to read book one to enjoy book two. It’s a standalone as much as it’s a series. Not that you shouldn’t read both, especially if you love romance and hockey.
We met Bridger and Tia in the first book of the series...but this story is all about them. Bridger is a playboy Enforcer for the team. He is knows for his antics both on and off the ice. He is on thin ice with the team due to his poor playing and needs to clean up his act. He has an idea that may get him some more positive press. When Tia joins her best friend as she photographs a hockey team for a charity calendar, she is not expecting the immediate attraction she feels for one of the players. She has sworn off bad boys due to a past relationship that still haunts and affects her to this day. Bridger and Tia decide they need just one weekend to work through their attraction so they can both move on. What they don't expect is the friendship they form. However, as they usually do, feelings start to creep their way into their friendship. Keeping their "friends only" relationship gets harder and harder to maintain. When they both find themselves in trouble...will they turn to each other? Or will their rules keep them from seeing what they truly need could be each other? This was another good book in an enjoyable series. I love a good hockey romance and this one kept my attention the whole time. Tia and Bridger are both great characters. I enjoyed seeing the characters from the first book make appearances. I look forward to seeing where this series goes in the future.
Dayum!! Bridger is what I need in my life. A HAWT hockey player that is protective and alpha but playful. Bridger might have had some privileges growing up but that did not make his life easy. His father calls with helpful advice such as, “Play better,” after each game. Bridger has lived the pro-athlete lifestyle to a tee and now he is suffering the consequences.
Tia has been burned by the likes of Bridger before and is not interested. Except, there is like this crazy attraction that can’t be denied between Tia and Bridger. Like when you are close to them in a room you can feel and see the sparks. Tia convinces Bridger that they can be just friends after a no strings weekend. Bridger is willing to take anything he can get to be close to Tia. When Tia’s past threatens not only the budding relationship but Bridger’s standing on the team, Bridger finds out what it is like to have the support of a family to help protect Tia.
I will be a Thunder fan forever!! I may not have the tattoo like Bridger, but I am willing to get season tickets!! I love how even though each story is its own, they have concurrent timelines. The author does an amazing job at continuing the story while telling an entirely new one!! Love this series!!! Love this book!! Keep the hot hockey hunks coming!!!
This book is absolutely amazing! I read it so fast and it held my attention throughout. This is the kind of romance that isn’t over the top and is very believable. I also felt that the main characters really felt believable. Truthfully, I wanted to be friends with all of them. Tia is the main female character. She has lived a life full of mistakes when she was younger and they are coming back to haunt her. She goes on a cabin weekend with her best friend to act as her assistant on a photo shoot. She wasn’t expecting that this photoshoot was for a calendar of the men of the local hockey team. She decides to indulge herself and allow herself a weekend only fling with the man who seems to get under her skin more than anyone else ever has. Bridger is smitten with Tia and after the weekend, he wishes that their tryst will continue. Tia and Bridger end up falling for each other, however, once they do her past comes to haunt her. She feels that she will never live down her poor choices of her past. Is Bridger the man who is willing to look past her mistakes and see her for who she is today. Or will he be persuaded by her past to run for the hills? This book is truly amazing and I cannot say enough for how much I enjoyed it. It truly is an enjoyable read and a quick one a that.
To overcome a past that has your reputation in question is difficult. Bridger McKelty is a professional hockey player for the Astoria Bay Thunder. He is a self-avowed bachelor and recognized as having a different woman with him at every public event. However, his luck has run out with bad media headlines and going through a slump during games. He undergoes a whole life makeover and comes up with an idea for a team calendar for a fundraiser event.
Tia Ferris has agreed to accompany her friend Brynn to a photoshoot. Tia has just lost her job because of incriminating photographs taken by her ex-boyfriend, Jonas Logie. When she left him, he promised she would be nothing without him. Every job Tia has worked at, Jonas has somehow infiltrated, and she is terminated. Now, seeking employment, nobody seems willing to hire her. Little does she know she is about to meet someone who will have her breaking her own rules.
Bridger seriously seems sincere with having Tia’s best interests at heart. Her problem with trust seems to be a barrier, and he is exceedingly patient with her on and off feelings for him. My favorite part of the book was his impulsive first date. To avoid spoilers, I can’t describe it, but I am sure it will make readers laugh.
Body Checked: A Frenemies-to-Lovers Hockey Romance (Astoria Bay Thunder #2) by CJ Cartwright
This is another great read by the author. So far both books I've read in the Astoria Bay Thunder Series are my favorite. If you've read book 1 the beginning will make sense. If you didn't it's okay you can always go back and read it. This is a standalone.
Bridger is the playboy of the group. Meeting Tia and having a manager that requires a background check and an NDA is hard. He likes Tia, but isn't sure what she wants from him. Can he win her over? The quote I chose for Bridger is: “Tia. Babe. You’re safe. I will not hurt you. I’m going to fall asleep next to you and probably dream of your gorgeous p**** and then we’re going to wake up and keep working on the photoshoot. You can relax.”
Tia doesn't expect to find herself falling for Bridger, but she does. She doesn't think her bestie knows what she's doing asking her to be an assistant. She doesn't know what she's gotten herself into. Can she let her guard down for him? The quote I chose for Tia is: “Rule #1 is the most important rule. You can’t fall in love with me. There can be absolutely no feelings. Do you understand me?”
Highly recommended for Contemporary Romance lovers.
Body Checked is the second book in the Astoria Bay Thunder series. I must say this book was a great and exciting read. C.J. Cartwright really knows how to keep your interest and get you invested in the story and the chemistry between the characters. The plot is well developed and has just enough twists to make putting the book down hard.
This is not your typical boy who meets a girl and they fall madly in love. Bridger and Tia meet due to a job opportunity for Tia to help her best friend with the Astoria Bay Thunder photoshoot. They both acknowledge their chemistry but not in the typical let's get to know each other fashion.
Bridger a well-known playboy known better for his scores off the ice than on the ice had to put in a lot of work to get the girl. While Tia the highly guarded independent woman had to learn to trust a man again.
Reading about their love story and seeing it go from nothing to something was great. There were times I wanted to yell at Tia for her decisions. While other times I was fawning over how Bridger treated her. This book is the perfect combination of love, angst, and passion. When the passion flows you might just want a drink of water nearby to cool you down.
Love this author and all the writings and books that they create! I loved the first book in the series and now this is the second one. I could not help but fall head over in love. I swear this book truly scored a touch down with my heart! There was so much to this book, it was absolutely amazing from start to finish!
I loved watching things progress and what they were between Tia and Bridger. I loved how it was not smooth sailing at first glance There were things between them, that went well, quite deep actually. I really felt for them at different times. I felt emotions, happiness, anger, all at the same time on various occasions. I loved the sports aspect to this book as well. I love when romance mixes with sports, it brings to realism out and helps the story play out! I loved the writing, and the descriptive use on the words the author had used! This book was impossible not to love. I am so glad I got to enjoy it! Loved it!
Amazing book that everyone should experience in my humble opinion! I could not get enough of this book. I seriously am squealing with delight as I type this! A must read book! Highly recommend!
Bridger is an ice hockey player who is in some trouble with his team because of negative publicity. His agent wants him to clean his image and do more charity. He meets Tia at a photoshoot for a calendar, and they have intense chemistry. But Tia has a deranged ex who has spent years harassing her and trying to make her undateable and unemployable by way of distributing real photos and false accusations. So she is trying to keep things casual and under wraps.
I enjoyed the characters and the story kept me reading it all in one sitting. There was one scene near the end that happened rather quickly, considering that somebody had to collect a lot of secret information and write several documents and there was not very much time.
Series status: This could be read as a standalone but parts of this story overlap with the events in Power Play. Tia's friend gets back together with one of Bridger's teammates, and some interactions between minor characters might be easier to understand if you have read their story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a really enjoyable romance. I loved the chemistry between the characters both Bridger and Tia know how to push the others buttons and that only sparks their chemistry more. Bridger is well known as a playboy. He plays hard both on and off the ice but this behaviour is now biting him in the butt as bad press and being distracted during games is having a negative impact on his career. He's decided to lay off women and concentrate on his career that is until Tia walks into his life.
Tia has had a bad experience with rich playboys and has learnt her lesson the hard way. Never again will she be caught up with a rich playboy. However things get a bit sidetracked when she meet Bridger.
The attraction between them is instant and steamy. With both of them not wanting to commit they settle on 1 weekend of fun. But what happens when that 1 weekend isn't enough. Could Tia be the girl to finally tame the notorious playboy? Will Tia even contemplate more with Bridger? And what happens if Tia's past is revealed? Will Bridger pursue her as hard as he plays in life? Or will Tia stand her ground and and deny Bridger the one thing he wants, Her?
What can I say….after seeing Bridger’s character in book 1 I wasn’t to psyched to read his book but boy was I wrong. Bridger definitely is much more then The author made him out to be. He’s hot….yes but he’s not at all like I pictured him from the description in book 1. I’m glad I read this book and if I’m being honest, I loved it. Tia is such a strong character and I just love her. However she has had it rough. She got mixed up with the wrong guy who she thought would be her Prince Charming. Turns out he was just another piece of garbage not worth her time. Tia and Bridger meet and right away they are attracted to eachother but make a pact to only have fun for the weekend and that’s it. Yea ok!!! When does that ever happen. I really cannot get over the lengths Bridger and the thunder goes to for Tia or how Tia just on a whim, went to check on Bridger. Definitely one of the better books I’ve read recently. 5 heartfelt, hot stars!!!!
Body Checked (Astoria Bay Thunder Book 2) by CJ Cartwright. This is the second book in the Astoria Bay Thunder series and I loved it. Its the story of Bridger who is a playboy hockey player. Sounds like a dream huh! When he meets Tia who is put in charge of their photo shoot. Their attraction is immediate. Tia knows Bridger's reputation and knows that he's nothing but a good time. His reputation is so bad that he is about to get in trouble with the team so he's trying to calm down a bit but he can't control his attraction to Tia. They finally agree on a wild weekend but no feelings. What Bridger doesn't account for is he's obsessed with Tia. He can't get her off his mind. He even thinks maybe she is the one. When Tia's past comes back to haunt her and even risks Bridger's place on the team will they continue to work and be together or will they explode just like their chemistry? Be prepared to not put this book down until your are finished!
Body Checked: A Frenemies-to-Lovers Hockey Romance (Astoria Bay Thunder Book 2)
I think I may have fallen a little harder for Bridger in this book. We knew him as the goofy, hot hockey player and thankfully we still get that side of him. We also get the time to grow up and do my job side. He is definitely in my top 10 of Book Boyfriends for now.
Tia is exactly what Bridger needs. She has her head on, but isn't too serious and knows how to have fun. I loved her in the first book, but I might have developed a little crush on her. I would love to have her as a friend.
Bridger is finally growing up and takes his job as enforcer seriously on and off the ice. I really enjoyed watching both Tia and Bridger grow as individuals and there was more than a few laughs at comments made.
I have quickly fallen in love with this series and author. I can't wait to see who Cupid's next victim is.
I didn't think it would be possible for me to like this second book more than the first, but that is in fact the case! In the first book in this series we are introduced to Tia and Bridger and can see the way they banter back and forth. This book solely dedicated to their relationship brings with it more of the sass and banter and expands upon both characters brilliantly! It is steamier and more complex than the first book, and I cannot wait to read more.
I love sports and I love romance novels... mixing the two is a perfect combination! CJ masterfully blends intrigue and suspense with realistic dialogue and situations. The result is that you do not want the book to end. The author prefaces the book with the difficult time it took to finish due to the pandemic and a hope that this world gives the reader a little respite from all that is going on in the world... mission accomplished! I will gladly get lost in this world again and again :)
Body Checked by CJ Cartwright is book two in the Astoria Bay Thunder hockey series. Though part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone but I PROMISE you that you’ll want to read the first!! This story follows Tia and Bridger. Let me tell you, this book was hot and delicious. Tia had some rough teen years that are coming around to bite her at every good thing that happens. Bridger is a playboy famous hockey star who needs to clean up his act. After what should have been just one spicy weekend together, the pair cannot deny their attraction and it turns into a give and take game of should we, shouldn’t we. Let me help, THEY SHOULD. Hands down an awesome pair to read about, so fun and flirty with relatable attitude. I’m itching for a book 3 to find out who will be next. Send some thunder my way!
