Parker Knight is a smooth-talking pitcher with a smile for days and a roster of broken hearts behind him. Those are only a few reasons why a guy like him is never getting near my heart.
After making a cross-country move to prove I deserve a place within my dad's baseball empire, the last thing on my mind is a play boy pitcher.
But when we randomly meet off the field, it's clear Parker has no idea I'm the team owner's daughter. He thought I was going to be his next conquest. I didn’t mean to shut the guy down so hard, and I certainly didn’t expect to oversee his foundation on my first day at the office.
No one has ever seen the real guy behind the bad boy of baseball, but the more I get to know Parker, the harder it is to ignore the feelings I'm catching.
I’ve had my heart broken too many times before. How can I trust it with the biggest heartbreaker of them all?
I live in Utah with my husband, our four kids, our dog who thinks she is human, and a rather suspicious cat. A fantasy anthology which included my work in 2018 hit the USA Today Bestseller's list. I have written several fantasy and romance novels and adore both genres!
You'll most likely find me when I'm not writing trying to keep up with the kids, daydreaming, spending time in the mountains, and drinking too much caffeine.
I don't have much to say other than I loved them. Parker is definitely book boyfriend material <3
I loved that the conflict wasn't dramatic and was resolved quickly. It was a cute read for sure. I was definitely not disappointed. It's a good book to start the year with.
I recommend this if you're looking for a light read that will definitely make you swoon and smile.
(There were some editing errors, but it wasn't bad enough to take a way from the story... just something I did notice while reading.)
I've been looking forward to Parker's story for a long time now and knew the woman who stole his heart had to be something special. Skye was definitely a likable heroine, I loved her spunk and personality. She has gone through some hard stuff, but its only made her stronger. I loved her and Parker together and she totally takes him by surprise. I loved the baseball setting and look forward to reading the rest of the series!
This is a spin off from Ms. Childs For Love and Rock series, but can stand on its own.
Content Rated G Romance: Kissing Language: None Violence: None
Emily Childs scores a homerun with the first book in a new sports-related romance series. Skye Anderson and Parker Knight shared great chemistry in this tender, charming and funny story. He’s the super star pitcher for the Vegas Kings and she’s the owner’s daughter and the team’s trainer. And oh how fun it was as I watched them play the game of love.
Kudos for this author who devotes more attention to the emotional investment and less to graphic sexual details with this book – which was fine by me. These two share a believable relationship with enough steam to fulfill the “romance” requirements.
This is an adorable read with an amazing group of characters and just enough angst to keep readers on their toes and involved, lots of witty banter with a team of sexy baseball players and enough depth in the storyline to feed a romance junkie’s soul.
I look forward to the second installment (an opposites attract trope) scheduled for release on July 29, 2022 – “The Curveball.”
This just wasn’t for me. The characters were written too quirky, like not in a cute way. Also doing legos and liking titanic really doesn’t make someone weird. I just didn’t really connect with any of them. It was so cheesy. And boring. And there’s zero like romance. It doesn’t even allude to like kissing… rated E for everyone lol. I prefer my romance novels to have a littttttle more romance.
(Book 1 of The Vegas Kings) This book was JUST what I needed. So cute and wholesome! (No spice at all, so I know some may want a little spice here and there! I would say this is rated G lol) . . I picked up this book randomly at HPB just because I figured why not try another baseball romance. (I’m not big on sports romance, but I’ve read another BB romance and loved it!) This book was all I needed and more! I was hooked from the beginning and I loved Skye and Parker! Their chemistry and banter had me smiling BIG!!! I love love LOVE their banter! I love their little quirks, but also the depth of their backgrounds. I really did like how the book touched on important topics like TBI’s, Childhood trauma, difficult family dynamics and how it was portrayed in such a light manner. . . I will be looking into the rest of the series!
I ❤️ Parker! I ❤️ baseball! I ❤️ good clean romcoms!! This was such a fun story and a great beginning to a new series staring baseball players!! Did I mention I love baseball? We first met Parker in the previous series dealing with the band “perfectly broken.” Loved him in the series and I was so excited that he got his own story. It did not disappoint!! Him and Skyes meet cute was so good and I loved Skye as well. Her back story was interesting and made for a cool love match. I love watching walls go down and two people fall in love *sigh*
I'd been searching for one for a long time, and finally was suggested this on BookTok. I was surprised though, because despite being titled a 'bad boy' romance in the KU title on Amazon...there wasn't any spice!
I still really loved the story and the characters, and while the grand gesture seemed a tad repetitive to me, it was still a super enjoyable fast read.
For more in depth commentary and spice rating, see my video review link above.
Really enjoyed the story of this book, but as a baseball fan there were just too many liberties taken. And beyond that some of the wording actually hurt my head to try and understand what was trying to be said in Skye’s internal monologue. Enjoyed the characters and definitely will be trying another book in the series!
This was super cute! No steam at all but the love story was wonderful! Would definitely recommend to anyone younger romance readers or beginning romance readers! Loved this!
I really like the TBI representation and dealing with narcissistic exes and emotional abuse. Loved Skye’s family support and Parker’s found family. Their meet-cute was adorable. No spice.
This is a cutesy little closed door romance. I really liked the story line- they had such great chemistry and the side characters are soooo great.
It’s repetitive though- so be prepared. So much saying the same shiz over again (which is a me thing, I think. It’s just hard for me to get past). I would have given it three stars, but the story was good and I like her writing style!
This was a sweet romance. I enjoyed the book but not enough to continue the series. If you like sweet books with no spice you’ll enjoy this book but I like some heat in my reads.
This was a perfect, quick, simple, heartwarming story about two extremely lovable people who found one another by chance and fell in love. I am not usually a fan of insta-love as this story seemed to zoom through a whole meeting to getting married relationship in less that 300 pages, but it felt weirdly authentic and natural. From the moment that Skye & Parker met, they had this easiness and felt oddly comfortable around one another, where even they were like... wait we need to slow this down because it feels like we've been friends for years. I loved how they both instantly had these inside jokes that brought a smile to all our faces (including me) and felt that they could tell one another everything. I loved how Parker described her as this missing piece that seemed to fit perfect in every aspect of his life. He was ride or die for Skye from the moment he met her, even without him knowing.
It also had a touch of trauma, Skye with her accident and Parker with his rough childhood coming back to haunt him, which were written as obstacles they would have to fight, but in reality were things that made them love one another even more.
Overall, this was one of the easiest reads in a little while, that kept a smile on my face the whole time I was reading. The only few things that kept me from giving this a 5 start review was that I wished that there was more world building. Maybe since this is a spin off of another series, we were already supposed to have that background knowledge, but I felt that this book could have been expanded and we had a little more real time of the characters getting to know one another and talking and healing from their trauma. Yes, we knew that they both had it and they worked through it, but I wanted to know how they worked through it. It felt that this book's main focus was their relationship and how they got together, with a few baby obstacles that really weren't explored. PLUS, I felt like there was a lot of repetition of inside jokes. I get that Skye had an obsession with Titanic... but it is hard to believe that that is her WHOLE personality. Want to plan a date night? Watch Titanic. Need to make a grand gesture? Incorporate Titanic. Want to propose? Also include Titanic. It became predictable. Honestly, I was surprised they didn't name their child after Jack/Rose at that point. But I will say, I enjoyed how dorky and quirky they both were. It warmed my heart how in love they both were with one another and their random quirks and bad puns.

3.5-3.75 stars. It's great to be back in this world and I am very excited for Ryder and Dax's books, not as excited about Griffin's but will still be reading his story.
Things I Liked: -the slow-burn. They didn't know each other for long but their friendship was amazing (supportive, open, honest) -seeing everyone from the band and their significant others/families (I especially loved seeing Bridger and Alexis again and seeing Mason's bond with Parker and the rest of the team) -the first meeting. Not only was there obvious chemistry but I loved that Skye turned Parker down and that they met before finding out who they really were (Parker being a professional baseball player and Skye being the daughter of his team's owner/the team's new trainer) -Skye and Parker's comfort around each other and how Skye was the first women (outside his family and friends wives) he let see beneath his public persona -how Parker wasn't the typical "jock", instead, he was a sweet nerd who loved his sister and found family (Bridger's band) -any scene with Parker, Alexis, Bridger, and Garett (their son). I just loved their family dynamic -that both Alexis and Bridger were able to recognize Parker's feelings for Skye within a minute of seeing them together (at which point they were still just friends) -how Skye's father (the team's owner) and their workplace romance wasn't an obstacle to their relationship. And just Skye's father in general, because he didn't make a big deal about their relationship (he didn't feel the need to bring it up and just let them figure things out on their own) -Skye's history. I love how she was able to overcome her traumatic brain injury yet the author didn't pretend that she was 'cured' -Skye's love for the Titanic and Parker's patience and encouragement of her interest (the whole door inside joke was amazing - Parker saying he'd give up the door for her and Skye saying she would force him onto the door) -the epilogue - I absolutely love seeing into the lives of a couple a few years after the final chapter
Things I Didn't Like: -Oliver. I don't even think an explanation is needed for disliking Skye's ex -I honestly can't think of anything else that I disliked
Things I Would've Liked To See: -Bridger and Alexis's reactions to Skye and Parker finally getting together -flashbacks of Skye's past and her journey to recovery -Skye's life outside of her family and work (what about friends?)

Emily Childs is one of the best Contemporary Romance storytellers ever. She really has become one of my most favorite writers to date. The Changeup is awesome. I have wanted to read Parker’s story since I met him in book 1 of the For Love and Rock series. What immediately struck me about Parker all those many books ago is his intense sense of loyalty to those he lets in. This sense of loyalty truly makes Parker an endearing character. I also couldn’t wait to meet the woman who would capture his heart. As an avowed for-life bachelor, I knew whatever woman caught Parker would have to be a totally amazing woman. And Skye really is the perfect woman for Parker. I very much enjoyed the journey Parker and Skye take to get to happily ever after, and I really enjoyed getting an in-depth view into Parker’s character, but what I loved the most about this story is all the substance. The Changeup is more than just a fluffy, passionate romance. Don’t get me wrong, there is a ton of chemistry and passion and sweet romance, but there’s so much more. As someone who has experienced the frustration and terror of a traumatic brain injury, I can attest to Skye’s physical and mental issues. Childs does a superior job capturing the hang-ups and insecurities one can have after fighting one’s way back from a TBI. In this, Skye is a very relatable character. Parker’s struggle with his mother is also very relatable. Childs does a remarkable job creating the angry, frustrating, unspoken emotions of an adult whose parent was rotten. On the one hand, you’re an adult. You want to get over it and live your adult life free from all that past junk. But on the other hand, those very real feelings are trapped in your chest. What do you do with them? Childs does a great job maneuvering Parker through those very real, very intense feelings. And, if all of this isn’t enough to make The Changeup a great story, the villain of this story is awful and will keep any reader furiously turning pages well into the night just to find out if he gets what he deserves or not. I had very visceral feelings and reactions towards this villain. Does he get his just desserts? Well, you’ll have to purchase a copy of this excellent story and find out for yourself.
The Changeup is another home run (pun intended — read the book, you’ll understand) by Emily Childs. I loved every minute of this story and highly, highly recommend it. If you are a fan of highly engaging, delightfully romantic, swoony romance with serious substance, then you have to check out The Changeup. You won’t be disappointed that you did.
I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on April 25, 2022, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
For some reason this book was not on my radar, which speaks more to how quickly Emily Childs is pumping out such excellent reads.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. It had all the usual charm that most of Childs books have but still packing in a lot of heart. It was great to see a bit more of Parker and I thoroughly enjoyed Skye as a character. With authors I read a lot from, I always keep an eye out to see if their characters start to blend and seem same same, and I'm glad to say that's not happened yet. Parker and Skye definitely were fully fleshed out and stood out on their own merit. I also thought it's great that for fans of all of Child's series, there are nice payoffs that thread through. For example seeing more of Parker (and Alexis's) mother and giving more attention to that story that started way back in Alexis's book.
Let me also heap a bit of praise on the actual romance. When I read the synopsis of Skye being Parker's boss's daughter who has come to work with the baseball team, I was like here we go. We're going to have fire and ice and all these clashes before the friction eases into some more. But even in this Childs subverted what would have been an easy trope to fall into, and instead we get one of my favourite types of romances. One out of a solid friendship. Excellent.
I also though the closing conflict was very very very well done. This is often where many books have fallen down (see my extensive criticisms of how Compared went from 5 stars to very nearly 3). In this, even though it was obviously a plot convenience to add tension, it still felt pretty earned and meaningful rather than a complete waste of time. The resolution was also very nicely handled for both characters.
Listen I'm already fan of Childs (save for the Debutant series) and am so excited that I get a new series to sink into completely.
I love this one. It shows how the best romances are not sped up but can start as friends first.
*SPOILERS!!!*
Parker Knight: Sister is Alexis from Perfectly Broken (Band Series), Best friend to Bridger (also his bro-in-law), pitcher for Vegas Kings, known as a playboy, Skye: daughter of Vegas King's owner and also one of the trainers, had an accident that resulted in a brain injury, blunt (due to injury), funny, Titanic fanatic, will argue or debate on anything, passionate, knows her stuff, adorable.
Skye just moved back to Vegas for her job with the Kings. She meets Parker at a museum (for Titanic) and they hit it off with her debating about Rose and Jacks ending (which appears in the rest of the book). When Parker finds out she is a trainer, he agrees to stay friends and back her up when she changes the players' routines (which is a superstition no-no). Their friendship grows and they get closer. Until an ex-boyfriend of hers decides that he wants to ruin her career by claiming she is brain damaged (which she is but really isn't). This is where she kind of holes up in her house and Parker makes a big gesture to prove that he loves her as she is. Meaning, her brain does not change his love for her. The end...after the happily ever after and amazingly adorable Epilogue.
What I Love: - Their relationship is never a secret. Her dad knows and so does the team (not a forbidden romance) - They start off as friends (cause she rejected him and told him that she can't do no strings) - She gets along with Parker's whole family (+friends) - He stands up for her but doesn't make choices for her. He is a protector but is not controlling or forceful (or demeaning like the ex).
Parker’s a pitcher in the MLB. His childhood wasn’t the greatest. But out of it he got a tight relationship with his sister and a lifelong group of best friends. He’s moving from a closing pitcher to a starter because of all the work he’s put i to his arm.
Skye’s the daughter to an MLB owner. She’s also a well trained physical therapist who worked for her dads minor league team. She had a romance with the pitcher, but unfortunately for her he was more interested in using her paternal connection to move up than her. So, when her mom passes away she moves up to the major leagues.
Parker heads into a baseball exhibit only to find out it’s left town and now it’s the Titanic exhibit. Fortunately for him, he meets Skye and they hit it off and your the exhibit together.
Skye’s has a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and kind of gets stuck/fixated on things. The titanic is woven into the remainder of the story in cute and quirky ways.
Skye’s ex plot a terrible revenge by leaking photos and videos of her, at her worst right after the car accident, on the baseball field and big screen. While it was a road block, the two continue their relationship and eventually. The baseball league and commission provides the with justice.
I’d say that the book didn’t pick up pacing until 60% through. Until then it really was a struggle to push through and continue reading.
The side characters were mildly developed. They didn’t detract or add to the story. None interested me enough to co to use the series.
OMG OMG OMG!!!!! I loved this book!!! I was definitely supposed to be working but instead i couldn’t put this book down!! Major sucker for sports romances and i loved all the characters 😍😍 so swoon-worthy!!! Skye is incredible!! I really enjoyed her bluntness and even though she has her insecurities because of her injury, she does try to overcome it and stay positive. And i liked that the author didn’t shy away from showing how things can get tough and sometimes we retreat into ourselves. That made it so much more relatable as a reader. Skye has her quirkiness and i enjoyed how she throws Parker off his axis and makes him re-evaluate himself and others but also how she makes him want to be a better man. Oh and my man Parker!! Where to even begin with him! I LOVE HIM!!! He is so dreamy, and when he loves, he loves fiercely. I loved that he became so protective of Skye and was willing to stand up for her to anyone including his closest friends. Oh and then the bonds he has his with friends are incredible! I really liked how Parker started to become more open as the story went and on. This book is sooo cute!! I don’t want to go into a lot of details about it because it will take away the storyline. But you will love this book and will want to keep reading until you have finished the book!!
The banter in this one, the awkward rambling that ended up being super cute and the surprisingly heavier topics made this such a good read and I will be reading the rest of the series.
Parker and Skye meet by accident at an exhibition which I did think was super cute. Her date ended up being a massive fail and he attended the wrong exhibit but for some reason they click from the beginning and spend the night chatting and having a great time together as perfect strangers. Skye doesn't recognise Parker or the fact that he is a one of the best professional baseball players in the league which he did rather enjoy so come the end of the night neither of them expect to run into each other again. Fast forward and these two end up working together as her dad actually owns the baseball team Parker plays for.
I loved our FMC's personailty, her dedication to her job, her genuine love for helping people particulalry in regards to professional athletes and their recoveries. I did also love that she thinks outside the box and gets a group of serious athletes to shake their ass in the middle of the baseball pitch as part of their new training regime. I won't lie Skye's character did pull a number of laughs from me that definitely had me kicking my feet with joy.
Parker isn't your typical cocky pro athlete. He takes his job seriously, is a great team mate and friend however he is rather private in his personal life. He has a little bit of a nerdy side to him as well that he doesn't share with many people outside of his close knit circle of friends and family so I did really enjoy that aspect of his character.
As these two develop a relationship their are so many sweet moments that honesty had me falling in love with them both just a little bit more.
Their is mention of a truamatic brain injury in this book so go into it knowing that however I think this topic was handled with such care and I love how it was woven into this story.
This book is a huge home run. I cannot stop all the baseball puns. However, Parker is just so sweet. He is adorable in the Perfectly Broken series, but he is a large teddy bear. What I liked about him is how real he is. His struggles are hard. But, he isn't a jerk about it. He works hard.
Skye is super fun. She is extremely sweet and fun. Even though she is the coach's daughter she's amazing. Her spunk and compassion is great.
The romance is just super good. I enjoyed the kissing scenes. Skye and Parker have amazing chemistry. When the steam amps up it is awesome.
The secondary characters are the best. I loved the friendship between Parker and Bridge. They are the perfect bromance. I love bromance and good friendships. This book features ton of it. Also, seeing Jazzy, Vivi and all the other characters was a great blast from the past.
In summary, go pick up this book you will love it.
4.5⭐️ This was a delight! I think I’m falling in love with sports romances. There was such a tight knit found family bond between the rock band, baseball teammates, and their significant others. I loved their continuous support of each other. Parker and Skye had incredible chemistry, easy and instant friendship, and the most toe-curling kisses. I loved their dedication to their craft and watching them evolve together with their professional and personal relationship. And their mutual love of Legos?! The best. And her obsession with the Titanic was so cute. Hard topics and past traumas were handled well, and I loved that the TBI representation was described in such a real and honest way. That there is power in hard work and perseverance no matter the outcome and that it will never hold you back from what you want. But seriously. I love Parker and Skye and could read their story again and again! I would definitely give up the door for them.
