After five years, Emma Cooper is returning to Pine Bluffs — and to Sheriff Nathan Forrester. Finally, she’s ready to confess the secret that drove her away. But before she even arrives in town, Emma runs into trouble that threatens everyone she cares for. So she has to decide — stay and fight for the love of a lifetime? Or run away again…
PLEASE NOTE: “Bite Me” is an expanded and revised version of “In Sheep’s Clothing”, a short story which was first published in The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance anthology and in the ebook compilation Under Her Skin with Ilona Andrews and Jeaniene Frost.
“In Sheep’s Clothing” was around 8,000 words and most of the spicy content was removed for inclusion in the original anthology; so I’ve added the heat back in and made slight revisions to descriptions and dialogue, so it now runs about 10,500 words (which is still a short story, so please don’t think the expansion turned this into a novella or novel!)
Content Warnings
Mentions of a serial killer who sexually assaults and murders his victims (these murders take place before the events of the book), fear and suspense, werewolf violence and biting, mild body horror/pain during a werewolf’s transformation, explicit consensual sexual content, swearing and cursing.
Goodreads info: I am slowly, slowly adding to my shelves and reviews. It's unlikely that I will join many book discussions (especially of my own work) simply because I don't want to stifle reader conversation.
Bio: Meljean was raised in the middle of the woods, and hid under her blankets at night with fairy tales, comic books, and romances. She left the forest and went on a misguided tour through the world of accounting before focusing on her first loves, reading and writing–and she realized that monsters, superheroes, and happily-ever-afters are easily found between the covers, as well as under them, so she set out to make her own.
Meljean lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and daughter.
Werewolves, serial killers, romance…I mean what’s not to like? This short novella gave me more than I anticipated, and the author’s writing style was my cup of tea. “Cerebral” I think I saw a reviewer describe her writing style as, and I couldn’t agree more!
Such a fulfilling short story. I love that I got to experience the audio.
Emma is returning to Pine Bluffs and Sheriff Nathan Forrester after five years away. She's ready to confess the secret that drove her away. But before she arrives into town, Emma runs into trouble. And instead of calling 911, she calls Nathan.
Super short, about a werewolf who on the way back to live with her aunt get's attacked by a highway murderer. Of course being a werewolf she escapes and goes hunting with the hot sheriff she ran away from because she was turned into a wolf
This was a freebie for signing up for the author’s newsletter. A serviceable ex-friends-to-lovers romance about a werewolf and a sheriff who team up to track down a serial killer. It’s a quick short story that crammed a wee bit too much in the last ten or so pages and there’s not much by way of an emotional arc but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Characters: Emma is a 27 year old white science teacher and werewolf. Nathan is a 33 year old white sheriff. This is set in Pine Bluffs, somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.
Content notes: serial killer who raped and murdered women attempted to go after FMC (set a trap so her tire would go flat, then broke her car window while she was trying to drive away), officer-involved shooting of killer, FMC murders killer when he shoots her (), physical assault, FMC bites killer’s thumb off (off page but they find the digit), past werewolf attack turned FMC, on page sex

In short, a sexy short story perfect for the season!
Title: Bite Me Author: Meljean Brook Format: Audio Narrator: Joshua McCray Genre: Romance, Suspense, Serial Killer, Law Enforcement, Small Town, Werewolf, Friends to Lovers, Second Chance Standalone: yes Part of a Series: No (I don’t think so) POV: Emma, Nathan Steam Level: Slow burn to steamy 4/5
Emma is returning to town when she’s attacked by a serial killer. Luckily she got away. But Emma also has a secret. One that will make this serial killer even more deadly. As the hunt heats up so does Nathan and Emma’s reunion.
This audiobook was fun and I really enjoyed it. This was a great way to dive back into the Read Me Romance podcast.
This book gets right into the story. It was a great wearwolf story. Everything was great. I loved Nathan He is a great man. Perfect and accepting. Emma is strong but worried. I loved these two. I wish it was longer because I wasnt ready to leave this story.
I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!
This narrator ruins all audiobooks for me. This RMR Podcast book was not my favorite for other reasons though. The writing seemed juvenile, it was super cheesy which was only emphasized by this god-awful narrator, and just never hooked me. I couldn't get into it.
A free download from Meljean when her book did well in a recent popular vote. *Hugs the furry side* Werewolves… oh, thank goodness. Emma is returning home after a long absence. She has a flat tire, gets out to change it and realizes that it has been deliberately flattened. Now she remembers that there is a rapist and murderer of women whom, the police suspect, picks his victims in this way. Seeing a truck pull up behind her, she calls an old friend, Nathan who is now the sheriff. But he can’t get to her fast enough. *** Brook’s heroines are always self sufficient and independent and even in this short story, Emma is no different. A nice, well written read and like all good romances, it has a happy ending.
first time read this author and i like her story i think on the future i'm going to read her very nice plot and short story that in the end work. and because is a short story i think everything need to happen fast but i like it, a full book would have had to much going on for it
