Find out what happens when a heartbroken, Australian woman, stumbles headfirst into a mysterious man, who might just turn her world upside down.

No more men. No more partying. No more risks.

From today, Hazel Jones is a hardworking, focused woman dedicated to a job she hates, true crime documentaries and pizza nights with her bestie.

So, the last thing she needs is to crash head-first into Patrick Healey. He oozes sex appeal and sarcasm in equal measures and is almost enough for her to forget her last soul-destroying break up. Almost.

Hazel knows she should stay away from the distracting man who’s hiding something, but she can’t deny the chemistry simmering between them. It doesn’t take long for her to let Patrick in, even though his life is eerily similar to her favourite crime series.

Patrick pushes Hazel to confront her fears but won’t reveal his own. As tension builds and secrets unravel, Hazel starts to uncover the truth about the mysterious man she’s falling for.

But will she like what she finds?

Here’s what you can expect from Hazy Love:
*Slow-burn romantic suspense
*Strong female characters who love true crime
*Enemies to lovers (kind of)
*Humour, some steam, and a sexy male antagonist who’s great at throwing scowls and wearing a suit.

Please note: This book contains references to sensitive topics such as anxiety, depression, infidelity, sexual assault, drug use and death. It also contains profanity and sex scenes and is intended for audiences 18 years or older.

I'd like to stake claim on Patrick Healey.

Good. Riddance. He is *chef's kiss*.

This whole book was an absolute pleasure to read.

Banter? Spot on. Humor? Yep. Relatable? Oof, yes. And bonus? The MCs aren't 20 years old.

Hazy Love is Hannah Smith's debut novel and reads like anything but. From Chapter One's drop in, to character development for all characters (including the side characters), Smith wields her words with deft skill and remarkable prose.

There was so much about this to love. Hazel is funny without being ridiculous. The plot is gripping and suspenseful without being over the the top. Patrick is dark and moody without being abusive and toxic. The steam is the perfect dose of 🔥. Love this story so much.

If there is a spinoff, like I'm guessing there is, I will be first in line to read it.

4.5 ⭐️

If you're looking for a slow burn romantic suspense with a "sort of enemies to lovers" vibe, then I'd highly recommend putting Hazy Love on your radar.

Stranger danger simply does not exist when it comes to Patrick Healey ... no matter how crime obsessed you are, Patrick simply does everything right to melt some undergarments right off of you.

Apart from failing at being a crime junkie, Hazel Jones is a very relatable character:
𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐’𝘮 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘯𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯.
She had me chuckling quite a bit because of her crime obsession and also a bit frustrated but in the best possible way

Both Hazel and Patrick had some good humorous banter going on between them, and I had a silly smile on my face the whole time these two interacted. You could also obviously feel the chemistry heating up through the pages.

I wanted to spend wayyyy more time with them! Even if it were just of them going on a couple of dates together. I didn't want their story to end🥹

For a debut, this was beautiful!
The author did everything just right and created a page-turning beauty that, despite the suspense, was just such a feel-good cozy read.
I should mention that this is a re-read, and it's still just as good as the first time I read it. Maybe even better?

I loved this book! Hannah Smith’s debut book was such a delight and I am so happy to have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Hazel is feeling so unsure of herself, her boyfriend cheated on her, her job isn’t what she hoped it would become one day, and she is just going through the motions. Her best friend, Kali, drags her out for a night out and that’s where she meets the most mysterious man, Patrick, in a fancy suit with all his fancy cars. While he is seemingly all cloak and dagger he can’t seem to stay away. I loved the banter between the two of them. They were such a good match, they challenged each other. The story was so well written and thought out, I loved every second of it. I cannot wait to see what else Hannah Smith writes - hopefully something about Kali and Anthony???

She also thanks KA Tucker and her book The Simple Wild in her acknowledgements and I too am grateful for that book which makes me like Hannah Smith EVEN more!

It's rare to find a novel set in Queensland, and this really encapsulated what it's like living, loving and dating in South East Queensland - you'll always run into someone you know. I loved every character in this story, Hazel is relatable but not obnoxious (despite her sad love life), her best friend is supportive, her boss is the boss we've all had, and Patrick: well, he's just Patrick and what a SWOON he is! The kind of guy you hope you'll bump into and have your own love with.

I loved it, demolished it in under 2 days and wish I could read it for the first time again. What a debut novel!

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Loved it! So happy to read a book set in my home town and recognise landmarks and places. Hannah writes dialogue so well and the easy, witty banter between Hazel and Patrick was fun and enjoyable. And HOLY STEAM!!! If you like to read a slow burn, will they/won’t they romance then this needs to be next on your list. 5 stars!

Hazy Love💜
Out March, 1st✨

4.5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I had so much fun with this one!
Recording a 10 min voice memo to my friend cause I has so many emotions fun!😅

I haven't read any books that take place in Australia so that was interesting to see!
The writing style was fun and easy to follow along.

Hazy's character was really interesting because she was going through a lot and it was written in such a relatable way. She was spunky and stubborn so I loved her! 😁

Patrick was dreamy man! But he was also mysterious! I love me a broody hero so Patty here was great!♥️

The banter between these two was great and that slow burn was killing me in the best possible way!

I loved the supporting characters I will protect Kali and Anthony with my life they're amazing!😭✨ ( Epilogue) 😍

I do wish we would have seen more of Patrick and Hazy after the conflict I loved those two so I wanted more of them! 😩

Overall this was such a fun read!
I loved the fact that Hazy was obsessed with true crime because it made for some great lines! 😅
I can't wait to read more of @hannahsmithauthor writing and thank-you for the chance to review this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I Loved this book, so happy to have received an ARC to leave an honest review. To become so immersed in a story and the world that the author has created that I can't put it down is what I love most about reading. Hannah Smith has achieved with her debut novel. Hazel and Patricks' slow-burn love story was filled with the yearning, angst and hope that some of the best romances have. While the romance and steaminess of the story doesn't move at a fast pace (hence the slow-burn) it isn't needed as Hazel's personal journey is just as, if not more important than the romance between her and Patrick. Can't wait for Hannah Smith's next novel.

Can we all take a second to look at that gorgeous cover? I'm even obsessed with the title font 😍.

What a beautiful debut book by Hannah Smith! It has everything: a relatable main character, mystery, suspense, and romance. And, it is set in Queensland, not too far from where I live!

Hazel Jones (or Hazy to her friends) is done with men. She is just going through the motions of life after a painful breakup. She has her best friend Kali at her side, her true crime shows and a job that pays the bills (even if it doesn't spark her creativity).

One night, a lot of alcohol, a dark alley, a concussion and a mysterious dark and handsome stranger tilts her world. Who is he? Can she trust him?

I was so excited to receive this book from the lovely author herself @hannahsmithauthor - how lucky am I!! I really enjoyed reading this one, thank you 🥰

Let me introduce you to a refreshing read 🙌🏼

It’s under 300 pages but feels like it’s a lot longer - in a good way!

My god! The suspense! You don’t want to put it down

You want to climb Patrick like a tree…

The best friend dynamic is superb - I want to be their friends

The true crime obsession of the FMC makes us all feel seen

The dirt bag Ex that still lingers - we all know the one

Patrick is shady but you’re colour blind so those red flags look pretty green to me

It is slow burn but filled with sexual chemistry that will have you foaming at the mouth

By the time the spice rolls around you’re ready to climax with them!

And it’s written by an Australian indie author.

When I say it’s Australian and not Aussie, I mean it’s sophisticated writing. There’s not one single cringe worthy moment of Aussie slang or dialogue to be found

It’s free on kindle on unlimited so there’s no excuse not to download it BUT do yourself a favour and just buy the paperback. I did at 50%. I knew this was trophy worthy for the shelf!

Thank you Hannah!

Cannot wait to read Kali’s story

I absolutely ate this book up!! So, so good! There is sweetness, there is sass, there is spicy, spice, spice! 🌶️🌶️🔥🔥🥵🥵 I am obsessed!! 😍😍

Hazy Love gives us a whole lot of sexual tension and angst, and let me tell you, I am here for it! 🥵 we have a true-crime obsessed, artist Hazel, and we have the broody Patrick, sporting a saviour complex. There is an age-gap, plot twists, unresolved emotional damage, slow-burn, and the chemistry between the characters is undeniable 🔥 I loved it so much!

There might be a whole lot of steam and spice in this, but the great thing about Hannah’s books is there is also so much character growth, playfulness between the characters, and the banter is sublime! 💋 I loved it so much! 😍

What to expect with this series:
🎨 True crime lovers
🧘🏼‍♀️ Slow-burn romantic suspense
🎨 Emotional scars
🧘🏼‍♀️ Strong and sassy FMC’s

I love supporting Aussie authors and Hannah is definitely one to watch! I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next! I will read it all! 😍😍😍

Hazel Jones is in a major funk after a recent heartbreak. Going to work, training and watching true crime documentaries has become her routine, until her best friend Kali convinces her a night out will be fun.
Cue drinking and dancing until a head knock lands her with concussion and a new man on the scene, the mysterious Patrick Healey.
The banter these two share is sharp and alluring and makes for a delicious slow burning chemistry, as Patrick pops up in various places of Hazels life, coincidental or not? 🤔

I love the Gold Coast setting, the glitz and glamour of Hazel’s work events and her friend Kali brings laughter and hijinks as Hazel slowly reclaims her zest for life back after her heartbreak.
Hazy Love is a story with a bit of suspense, love and friendships and following your dreams. Hazel went through many emotions and periods of growth throughout this book and I loved seeing her taking a chance and stepping out of her comfort zone. The romance between Patrick and Hazel is well-paced and is a perfect blend of heat and heart. I enjoyed every moment of reading this book! I’m excited for more romance to come by Hannah Smith 💜

lines are blurry. feelings are real.

Hazy Love is serial killer-obsessed Hazel Jones and her meet-cute with Patrick Healey’s story.

Synopsis:
Hazel, twenty-seven, just got out of a bad relationship that she had imagined would be long-term. Not wanting to get into seeing more guys this soon, she focuses on making something of her career when she meets Patrick. Is he the right one for her?

Review:
Known to her friends as Hazy, the protagonist is introduced to us as she runs her heart out through the coastal paths of South East Queensland’s beautiful beaches. But, Hazel’s still not able to leave behind the life she doesn’t want but has to put up with. Because you can’t really escape your reality.

An ex who has not only broken her heart but shaken her trust in men and a job that she can’t see going anywhere are the only things that seem to concern her at present. Though she does have a wonderful friend in Kali (whom I would love to steal for myself!), who will not let her give up on having a good life just like that.

On an evening out, Hazy stumbles upon Patrick, and while the meet-cute may have been mortifying for her, it was nothing short of hilarious for me, the reader. Narrated in the first person from Hazel’s perspective, it was funny to see her spew her serial-killer knowledge and equate the situation she found herself in with stranger danger.

Ah, but such good things mostly happen in books only. Thirty-seven-year-old Patrick Healey seems too good to be true, from his polished businessman persona to his sarcastic demeanour. And Hazy’s obsession with true-crime documentaries and all the sinister things that can happen in real life if you begin to trust the tall and handsome stranger is not lost on her.

The story, Hannah Smith’s debut, is sexy, funny, and devilishly good. Especially Hazel herself, who doesn’t hold back and is straightforward with everyone. Her boss, who calls her Jonesy, reminded me of Cat Grant from Supergirl. Hazy Love is Hazel Jones’ story, through and through, as she navigates her life, which she never imagined would turn out as interesting (or scary) as it does.
Summer approaching is enough to get the two of us excited. I may be pasty, but I’d pick hot, sweaty days under the Australian sun over the cold, any day.

Same, Hazel, same. And that is what I loved about Hazel, she is such a relatable character. And for a person who has never been to Australia, the author brings alive the surroundings through her writing. Also, I love how the title fits the story and we get a lovely and crazy ride through Hazy’s life, where she meets Patrick while having an excellent inner voice in the form of her best friend, Kali Cooper.
I laugh when I imagine Kali’s grandmother’s face if she saw some of the dresses from previous events. Her eighty-something-year-old heart wouldn’t cope.

P.S. Just trying to imagine what it will come to when we are that old. Lol.

Thank you to the author for an e-ARC of the book.

If I had to describe this book in one word it'll be "perfect". This book was just perfect blend of everything! The Spice, the mystery, the chemistry between the couple, their banter everything was so well written and thought out.
The characters were relatable, I love how Hazel was shown as a strong woman who still had her weak days and all her struggles and her coping mechanisms to them made her character very real and still gave her a lot of space to grow. In the beginning she was at her weakest, going through a bad break up and struggling with a job she didn't like but I loved how she still did whatever she thought was best for her to keep going on.
Patrick... I don't know what to even say about that guy he's just so dreamy!! I could totally relate with Hazel and her doubts about their relationship when he clearly refused to tell her things about his personal life but there wasn't any point where that seemed like a major red flag to me which made me as curious as Hazel was to figure out more about this dark mysterious and broody guy and fell in love with him through the process.
I really had fun reading about all the theories Hazel's crime show obsessed brain come up with for Patrick and yes I was throwing down my own theories in the mix too, and I was right!!!!! (Well kinda since I guessed one major plot twist but the twists and back stories of some characters accompanying that still kinda took me by surprise) and I love that feeling of being absolutely right and still be surprised at the same time so major brownie points to author for that!
I also loved the contrast shown between her and her best friend Kali's personality in situations like this. She was at times polar opposite of Hazel but their friendship and her support for Hazel made me love her right from the beginning.
And when Anthony was introduced I immediately knew I would fall in love with him too! I really hope the next book is about Kali and Anthony because I can already imagine how good it'll be!!

"You, Hazel Jones, are absolutely, one hundred percent, worth that risk."

Hazy Love is a fantastic debut novel by Hannah Smith. Our main character is Hazel Jones, an executive assistant whose life gets turned upside down when she meets the mysterious Patrick on one serendipitous alcohol-fueled night out. She knows she should stay away from him, but she can't resist, especially when he pushes her to confront her fears (without revealing his own, of course).

Okay, let me list all the things I loved about Hazy Love:
- First, Hazel, duh! She's such a witty and relatable main character, who's been stuck in her assistant job for too long but is too scared to go after what she really wants - illustrating book covers. Obsessed with true crime, she's sometimes insecure, sometimes sassy and always funny (I particularly enjoyed her inner monologues at awkward times).
- Patrick, the mystery man himself. I had many ideas about what he was hiding and I was on the right track! Patrick is a total juxtaposition - he's broody but kind, sexy but secretive. The way he cared for Hazel though will make you swoon!
- The pair's chemistry was ON FIRE, thanks to the sweet sweet banter and tension.
- Kali was the best best friend and I am pumped for her story next. I have a feeling it's going to be even steamier.
- The Aussie setting. I didn't know how much I needed a romance novel not only set in Australia but my home state. It was perfect!
- The suspense had me hooked and I struggled to put the book down.

"I want to jump him. 'Hi,' I say, keeping it cool." Ah, Hazel, I'll miss you and your no chill!

What else can I say? If you like fast-paced, steamy, slow-burn, age gap romances filled with suspense and tension, do yourself a favour and read Hazy Love.

Thank you so much to Hannah Smith for the ARC. All ravings are my own!

Title: Hazy Love
Author: Hannah Smith
Hero/Heroine: Patrick & Hazel
Trope: Age Gap Romance

THE GOOD 😀

Is this seriously Hannah Smith’s debut novel? From the very first page I was hooked, immediately loving the character of Hazel and her sassy friend Kali. After a pretty crappy few months, Hazel was only interested in going to work and the gym, then coming home and immersing herself in true crime documentaries on Netflix. On a night out with Kali, she meets our hero Patrick (who sounds like an absolute friggin dream by the way), who comes to her rescue when she drunkenly gives herself concussion.
From the point of their first meeting, these pair find it increasingly difficult to stay away from each other, and the chemistry between them was pretty damn incredible. With Patrick’s smouldering intensity and Hazel’s obsession with assuming that everyone she meets is a serial killer, I couldn’t help but be drawn to both characters. The growth of Hazel as a character throughout the book was the one thing that stood out for me; massively lacking in self belief and making excuses to not do things that would make her happy, she eventually came to realise that the only one holding her back was her. I loved the part that both Patrick and Kali played in helping Hazel to realise what she was capable of. As we all know, every great romance has a supportive best friend and a Hotty McHotface love interest, and it’s safe to say Hazy Love can definitely be classed as a great romance. Releasing March 1st, this is one book that needs to be added to TBR’s everywhere.

THE BAD ☹️

That Patrick is fictional.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: A seriously impressive debut with great characters and an engaging storyline

Hazy Love
➖rating: 4.5/5 ⭐️‘s⁣
➖steam level: 3/5 🌶‘s⁣
➖release date: March 1st ⁣

summary:
A cheating ex, a job she hates, and unable to do what she wants most in life, Hazel is stuck and struggling to move forward. When her best friend finally convinces her to trade in her pajamas & true crime documentaries for a drunken night out, Hazel ends up meeting the broody & mysterious Patrick and now her seemingly boring life is getting turned inside out. ⁣

review:
Do you ever finish a book and then just immediately feel really happy to have stumbled upon it & read it? Hazy Love absolutely did that for me. Every single character is authentic and relatable in one way or another and Hazel in particular really resonated with me. Life knocked her down, but she still found a way to pick up the pieces and grow into such a strong/badass heroine and I truly just had so much admiration for her. ⁣

I also ended up loving Patrick so much more than I thought I would! I usually have a hard time connecting with broody/secretive heroes, but Hannah’s writing is so lovely that I was able to fall in love with Patrick almost instantly. He’s so much more than meets the eye and getting to see his many layers unfold as he slowly let Hazel into his life was so so rewarding. ⁣

All in all, I really enjoyed Hazy Love! It’s angsty and suspenseful and it definitely punched me in the heart a few times, but it’s also sweet and steamy and overall just a really well-rounded read! ⁣

Thank you so much to @hannahsmithauthor for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review! ♡⁣

This slow burn romance novel was the perfect light hearted read I needed to break up the heavy books I keep picking up!

Hazel Jones is in a rut. She pukes in an alleyway and is rescued by Patrick - a sexy man of mystery. I should just end this review right there because hell yes!

The author, Hannah Smith paints scenes effortlessly and writes incredibly witty and realistic banter between our girl Hazel and everyone she interacts with. Hazel is a bit bitter and a bit insecure for me but you sympathise and understand why she is the way she is.

I know I'm supposed to be longing over Patrick and wish he was my BF but I fell in love with the balsy sidekick Kali, the BFF you wish you had. The friendship between the girls not only helps to propel the story but also offers some cheeky comic relief between the steam.

The references of Who the Hell is Hamish and The Staircase gave me full body chill moments (IYKYK) and I loved the use of these contemporary and somewhat relevant references over name dropping too many locations, music or celebrities. They really helped to set the tone.

I did find the beginning a little repetitive in some instances and I skipped over some dialogue at a dinner with some characters I had very little interest in wanting to get to know... I was impatient... I wanted to get to the smut. Which is really a testiment to how well the author builds their courtship.

Being cautious of giving away any spoilers all I can say is I LOVED the epilogue.

Hazy Love is Hannah Smiths debut novel which is a slow-burn, suspenseful romance whose main character Hazel Jones is a crime obsessed and struggling in her work world and personal life after a heart break.

Let’s just say I was hooked from the beginning when we met this mysterious man who essentially turns her world around and brings life back into Hazel’s heartbroken life. The relationship between these main characters is intense at the beginning but it totally added to the mystery that is Patrick. The sarcasm and the banter was enjoyable as well. There were some red flags within this but with the book being more of a suspenseful romance it fit within the parameters and added to the mystery.

If you love a will they won't they slow burn, strong female characters, and a male antagonist who has a scowl and looks great in suits? Then this is one I would add to my list!

Let’s also point out the thanks for Canadian Author KA Tucker and her book The Simple Wild in her acknowledgements. Score one for Hannah Smith!!! Thank you Hannah for the ARC in ebook format for my honest review. I look forward to your next novels! Maybe even a little Kali and Anthony?

PS. Shout out for the content warning within the book's description.

Hazy Love is an amazing debut novel! As a sucker for romance I was so happy to have an opportunity to read this novel early. My expectations were high and I wasn’t dissapointed! I mean there’s all: exes, secrets, slow burn romance.. you name it ❤️

The story reminds me partly of quite a few other stories but is still able to have a fresh tone and feeling. You can tick off a lot of tropes which makes the novel even more interesting!

I loved the main characters (Hazel and Patrick) and their interaction. I’m still, a good while after finishing the book, finding hard not to laugh while thinking some of their encounters. 🌶 We get a heroine who is totally obsessed with true crime and serial killers - what a bomb! And let’s talk about our hero who truly seems to have a saviour complex. He is also a bit older (my age - haha), somewhat broody and hot af. Mix in some witty friends and interesting relatives.. 🔥

I have a hopes we might get more Kali or/and Anthony..

You know how some books just gobble you up and spit you back out? This is one of those.

Hazy is a completely genuine and believable character and she takes us through ALL the emotions in this book. I loved her, Kali, and well basically all the characters actually!

Patrick. Wow. I didn't think I liked age-gap romances but I was SO on board with this one. Even if he did have secretive serial killer vibes at times!

I was surprised by the direction things went in, but still enjoyed it and I also appreciated the ending being from Kali's perspective - it felt like maybe we could get a book 2 with her new romance? *fingers crossed*

I'm so glad I got to receive an ARC of this book and I highly recommend it. It's a quick read because you won't want to put it down, it has some spice but not too much (I prefer books that way) and it made me smile (when I wasn't in shock or angry about what a dick her ex is...)

I need a moment to get over this before I start another book. Well done Hannah Smith, it's a fantastic debut!

Me: I don’t read. Also me: Finished Hazy Love in one sitting, ignored texts, and now need a Patrick in my life immediately.

I picked up this book expecting to casually flick through a chapter or two… and suddenly I was emotionally invested, suspicious of all mysterious men, and asking myself why I ever wasted time on the Anthony's of the world. Hannah, what have you done to me!?

Hazel is literally me. Pizza? Check. True crime obsession? Check. Terrible taste in men until now? Check check check.

And then along comes Patrick, and suddenly I’m blushing in public, fanning myself in Coles, and seriously questioning whether I’m too old to be reading this. (Spoiler: I am not. Ripe age of 29)
Hannah’s writing is so good I forgot I was reading. I was there. In the car, on the couch, in those intense emotional scenes where I had to physically pause and breathe. I could feel every. single. thing. the characters were feeling.
