But the first chapter did break my heart and my expectations were high.
But I don't like it when the entire romance is swept under a rug and the whole running (in the jungle in this case) takes over the plot.
That was simply boring and lacked those tender moments or some breathers between the never ending action. The action was just way too much.
Pity since I really wanted to like it.
But when I finally thought the whole running and chasing was over, the heroine was taken again.
And I have around 90 mins left on my audiobook and I was quietly hoping those 90 minutes would be completely devoted to the story of Angie and Brady. Them getting to know each other and making me believe that they actually belong.
Because one kiss in the jungle didn't do that to me for the first 26 chapters. And so I stopped. And I just can't seem to force myself to pick it up where I left off.
But maybe I will do that in the future. Just not now.
Also, the cover wasn't my cuppa.
I am, however, rounding it up to 3 stars, because like I said, I did like the suspense. And I liked the characters. Just didn't feel the romance in the air. Or maybe that's just me? Dunno.
Do our scars define us? That is the question asked in Rescuing Angie. This book will have you crying from the onset and gasping at the action throughout!
In this book we meet Bravo Team. References have been made in earlier Guardian Hostage Rescue Specialist books and we know that the team was ambushed in Cancun on a mission that resulted in near catastrophic injuries to the team. Brady (Bravo One) endured the worst while trying to keep his team safe. The result was severe burns to half of his body and a painful recovery period.
Angie has endured a horrifying loss and spent years trying to heal. Her scars are more internal than external. When she realizes that a major change is needed to fully move forward, she closes her ophthalmology practice, sells everything and joins Doctors Without Borders where she is assigned to a team in Nicaragua. While there, the team is captured by one of the cartel groups.
Brady is on vacation in Costa Rica when he sees the news of the doctors who have been abducted and recognizes Angie as the widow of a man who saved his team prior joining the Guardians. Knowing that time is of the essence he calls HQ to request help. Waiting for his team is not an option but he is able to get help locally while the team is in route. After finding the camp where the doctors are being held he has an opportunity to save Angie and the other female doctor Izzy. The three begin a journey to meet up with the rest of Bravo team with the intent to return and save the other doctors.
Before long Angie recognizes Brady as the man she met years earlier at her husband's funeral and feels an odd sense of familiarity and calm with him. Despite Brady's physical scars Angie is drawn to him and for the first time in years she allows herself to feel something for another man.
The rescue does not go according to plan and Bravo team is called upon to come together for the first time since Cancun to complete their mission.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Angie meets Brady at her husband's funeral. As a surgeon her husband may have saved some Bravo team's lives and they came to pay their respects. Angie is desolate. For three years she has had no purpose. She decides to “break out” of her malaise, sells all her possessions and goes to work for Doctors without Borders as an Opthamologist. Her team gets caught between dueling cartels.
Meanwhile Brady has had a debilitating accident, spent over a year recovering, is fit again, but badly scarred. While on a forced two week “vacation” to determine if he can get his head back in the game, he sees footage of Angie as a hostage. Unable to wait for his team he sets out to where Angie was last seen.
This first story focusing on Team Bravo will tantalize and delight. Nothing is easy, as the bad guys outnumber the good guys, and there are 6 hostages in total. Fast-paced, action-paced, sizzling chemistry and more create an amazing story which you should not miss!
*** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***
Before the ending of Chapter 1, this author managed to rip my heart out. I'd never been to Nicaragua before reading Rescuing Angie, but I feel like I have now with the vivid description of the country. Chapter 14 had me swooning like a teenager! Oh, what an emotional ride this story took me on, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Loved how the past met the present. I so enjoyed Brady and Angie and their instant sense of connection and trust. Both so focused and matter of fact in the situation Angie found herself in. I just can't wait for more of the Bravo Team!
I couldn't put it down! I read the whole book in one sitting. The only bad thing is having to wait until next year for the next book. Ms. Masters is wonderful painting pictures in your mind as you read her words. This is one of the best military romance books I've read! -
Brady and Angie start the Bravo Team Series off with a whole lot of heat, action and steam. I really loved how strong, caring, and honorable Ellie writes her characters, she gives each character flaws that just enhance their characters to bring them to life. Read this book, actually read all of the books start at the beginning a devour every single book of Ellie’s that you can.
This is book one in The Guardian's Hostage Specialists Bravo Team series and it is Brady and Angie's story and omg what a great start to a new series and definitely a must read. Angie and Luke were so in love and on the way to the hospital to find out if they were having a boy or a girl and they were so excited only for Angie to have it all taken away by a car accident but now will Angie move forward after losing the man that she loved so much as he was a military man who was so kind, caring and was always there for her and other's and the child that they both wanted so much and now to find out that she can't have another child put her into a depression that took her a long time to come out from. Brady was a former navy seal but now he was a guardian which rescues hostages that has been taken to be sold for trafficking and his job was really important to him but when he is seriously injured while on a mission he will have a long way to go before he can get back to his team but the scars that are covering him is what takes longer to come to terms with. Three year's later and Angie is still struggling with everything that she had been through and as a doctor she decided to work with doctor's without borders and is in Nicaragua helping the people that need care when they get taken hostage. While Brady is on vacation he sees that Angie has been taken hostage he decides that he is going to get her and the other's out safely but he will need some help as Angie and Brady met briefly at Luke's funeral and he made a promise that if she ever needed help he would be there and he is not breaking that promise. This book takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I cried so much with what was happening and the twists and turns along with betrayal, danger, kidnapping, suspense, action, loss, trauma, family, hope, love, great chemistry, so much pain and I couldn't put this book down and I can't wait to read the next book in what is going to be another amazing series.
I enjoyed Angie and Brady’s story and I’m curious to follow along with Izzy next! The story felt a little unfinished at the end but these stories tend to be quite interconnected plot-wise sometimes
BRAVO for the newest Team in the phenomenal Guardian Hostage Rescue series. We've already been through many heroic missions with Alpha Team, now Bravo Team get to show us what they're made of.
Now it's no secret I'm a huge fan of these guardians, these Alpha males are the best of the best. Strong, determined fierce protectors who will do whatever it takes to rescue those in danger.
Brady, Bravo One has spent the last year going through a gruelling treatment regime. The explosion that damaged half of his body and nearly cost him his life has left more than just physical scars. The once confident navy seal doubts his ability to be mission ready ever again.
I loved Brady straight away, he is a true hero and being a guardian is his life. My heart broke for him as he struggled to accept the scars on his body, only to realise the scars in his mind are a lot harder to fix. Once Brady gets the all clear physically he goes on a much needed vacation to try and clear his head.
Only Brady doesn't get a chance to relax because Angie, a woman he hasn't seen for years needs his help. Brady snaps into action without hesitation, a heroic protector at heart he's back and ready to do whatever it takes rescue Angie, who just became his newest mission.
I absolutely loved Brady and Angie's story. I really liked Angie she's smart, strong and compassionate, I admired her resilience. The connection between them was electric from the start, I loved their chemistry and how well they worked as a team under intense conditions. Angie saw beyond Brady's scars to the magnificent man underneath and I adored her for that. I think they healed the broken parts of each other perfectly.
I've said it before and I'll say it again....this series is addictive, a pure adrenalin rush and I can't wait to get my next fix.......Bring on Bravo Two. 👏

But will they survive the danger to find their HEA? A winner story filled with suspense, bad guys, hunky good ones, strong female characters and of course romance. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Booksprout. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
"I’m a Guardian. A protector and a rescuer, saving other people is in my blood. It’s a part of who I am. It’s at the core of my identity." Brady
Brady's life, as he knew it, ended that day. The day he'd never forget, yet didn't truly remember. A flash, searing agony, then darkness. Brady has spent a year struggling to regain what was lost; yet some things would never, ever be the same... The walking dead; mind and body scarred from that fateful day, Brady is spiraling down, down, down...
Angela's life was irrevocably altered by a distracted driver. The loss of her husband compounded by the loss of her unborn child nearly broke her. Seeking to escape her unending agony, Angie signs on for a season with Doctors Without Borders. But her new goal of helping others to subsume her own pain is unexpectedly terminated...
"Survive. Evade. Resist. Escape. Those words are more than they seem. Survive against your doubt. Evade your fear. Resist the fear swimming in your veins. And above all else, escape the bonds that hold you prisoner." - Angela
The incomparable Ellie Masters has done it again. Another intense, enthralling tale that sweeps you away into the narrative; you live the scenes with the characters, experiencing their highs and lows. Love, despair, danger and desire abound in Rescuing Angie!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Wow! I absolutely loved this book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were amazing. This story was about Brady and Angie. This storyline was incredible from the start I was hooked the pages couldn't turn quickly enough, Angie widowed and Brady was injured badly both with scars. Angie joined the Doctor's Without Borders and they went to Nicaragua fixing medications and even eyes if possible Lizzie was a doctor that stayed with Angie, they were the only females to help four males. Brady was badly injured and has been in the Doctor's care. Brady was a Guardian HRS - a Protector and a Rescuer, he was sent on a forced holiday in Costa Rico while sitting back in a bar having a drink looked up at the TV when he noticed a pair of eyes looking through the TV at him so he listened to what was happening. The next morning he was off to find her. Wow it was a rollercoaster ride of action, a mix of emotions and excitement. I would recommend getting the book to read so worth it. Here we go again, having just about come down from Ellies Alpha team series we take off with Bravo team series. Buckle up guys it’s clear Ellie has another huge rollercoaster ride lined up for us and this is **just** an introduction ……. ok I lie - much much more than **just** an introduction it’s a mega storm, ready to whip you up into a frenzy.
Now we meet Brady, (Bravo one) who was severely injured a year ago when a mission went badly wrong. And Angie a doctor working for doctors without border and also the widow of a navy seal doctor who saved Brady and his team back when they were Seals.
Sparks fly when Brady sees that Angie along with the doctors and team she was working with were kidnapped. Now Brady is determined to rescue her but when he finds her he knows he can’t wait for his team to arrive and back him up, he has to fly solo and get at least the two women out now.
We get a some typically Ellie style steamy, hot action and a lot of other action with the bravo tram. We also get Mitzi, Sky, Sam and CJ back along with a few other familiar names cropping up.
I’ve honestly never read a female lead I respected and wanted to emulate more
Despite the worst of the WORST this woman took her licks, took her time, did the necessary and marched through hell regardless with her head held high. REPEATEDLY.
If anyone deserved a man like Brady, it was her.
If anyone deserved a woman like Angie, it was Brady.
A broken, scarred, emotionally wrought individual, Brady failed to see himself as a warrior, only as a monster. The truth couldn’t be further from the truth.
This story from start to finish just captured me and I can not honestly think of a book I have engaged with like this for a long while.
The underlying story I feel will travel as well as the traffickers in the Alpha team series, and not I can’t wait for this to gain traction and just run….
I’m as intrigued about Booker and Izzy as I am about why Forest didn’t fly to Nicaragua…
Next please, soonest!!!! . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was absolutely brilliant. I can't praise it highly enough. If the first chapter doesn't catch you in the throat, then nothing will. Angie lost her husband and unborn son in a car accident so volunteers for Doctors without Borders when they get kidnapped. Brady who is recovering from a tragic injury is back on duty as a Guardian and goes on to save her. They had met before. I love the development of the relationship between Brady and Angie. Both having gone through intense tragedy, seem like kindred spirits and like attracts like. Brady is very protective of her side from other feelings he has for her. This was so well written. Ellie Masters has a way of putting you in the middle of the action and letting the story grip you and take you for a ride. She certainly did with this one. I absolutely enjoyed this book. Actually this series although a spin off will be excellent as was the last series. So so so can't wait for more!!!
I've been waiting not so patiently for this book to finally release already, and attacked it the second it hit my Kindle! I'm a BIG, BIG fan of Ellie (and Jet) Masters, and have devoured everything they've ever written, riding the waves from book to book as they worked to bring down that big sex trafficking ring that started with Forest and Skye Summers' foster father and his scummy friend. Now that that's over and another over arcing theme has yet to present itself, this book kind of floundered a little. Yes, there was action, adventure, suspense, and romance. Was it good? Yes. Was it as good as an Ellie Masters book usually is? Mmm...not as much as her other books, which I hate to say. I did enjoy it, don't get me wrong! It's just that, out of all her books, this is my least favorite. It was missing something. It felt like it didn't have the usual Ellie Masters touch and there were some editing issues, which is highly unusual for Ellie! Maybe she rushed it? I dunno. Again, I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next book. Already pre-ordered it, in fact. I just hope Ellie really brings it on this upcoming book.
This is the first book for Bravo Team in the Guardian Hostage Rescue Specialists series. This book is beyond amazing! I was drawn into the story right off the bat. After suffering injuries during a rescue, Bravo Team is finally back. It's been the hardest year for them in recent memory, especially for Brady. He suffered a debilitating injury and is convinced he is through as a Guardian. With orders to go on vacation and get his head on straight, he goes to Costa Rica. Angie suffered a soul shattering loss when she lost her husband and unborn son. After the losses she suffered, Angie decided to do something drastic to get on with her life. She joined Doctors without Borders. Brady and Angie are thrown together by Fate because he is there when she needs him the most. This book has everything. Suspense, danger, drama and romance. Get this book ASAP. I promise you won't regret it. Sorry, no spoilers. I received this ARC and here is my honest review.
Suggestion; have a box of tissues at hand when you begin this book. Starting with the first page there are some heartbreaking events that will have you, at the very least, teary eyed. There are powerful emotions at play throughout Rescuing Angie but they are exceptionally poignant in the first two chapters and Ellie Masters does a masterful job of conveying them. There's lots of fast moving action and a good measure of suspense in Rescuing Angie but mostly this about a man, Brady Malone and a woman, Angie Maddox who carry the scars from tragedies in their lives. His are external while hers are all inside but they are nonetheless both scarred. Angie is determined to start living life again, while Brady is trying to figure out how not to be a broken "monster." Let's just say that Angie's unequivocal acceptance of who Brady is goes a long way in helping him find his peace and leads to a remarkable love.
A great new series start. We've heard about Bravo team in another series, but we finally get to meet them in this series. I loved the storyline, where the characters met in a "previous life" but did not exactly remember each other when they did meet again, after all, it was quite the second meeting. Enjoyed the jungle as most of the books location, especially when Angie felt "insignificant". You truly have to look around your surroundings to realize the beauty that is right in front of your face. Hilarious set up for Brady to take a vacation and how he got there. Definitely a lesson in there to look on the inside of people and not on their looks, especially during the underwater cave chapter. Loved Angie's discussion with Brady on what's on the inside vs outside, there are different perspectives and he was only looking at one version. Here's to what each future will look like, not if there is one! Loved the Barney reference too.
Angie's story tugs at the heart strings. She endured so much at once, however, over time she found strength to conquer and move forward. As you begin to read her story, you will be drawn in to the action, loss, excitement, romance, and so much more. Little did she realize that her past would also turn out to bring her an amazing future.
Bravo team's Brady is a true leader. When a mission brings an unexpected blow to the team, Brady will need to learn how to rebuild, and the Guardians were not letting him give up. He soon finds himself faced with a mission he did not expect, and his past provided the necessary drive to move forward.
We all have scars. Some are visible, many are not. Ellie wrote an amazing story of two people who despite their 'scars' found themselves connected. A page turner, must-read story to start the Bravo Team Series!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
These former Navy SEALs, DELTA Operatives, and Special Ops soldiers turned Guardians and Protectors will most definitely keep your attention in this series!
Brady, Bravo One, is finally recovered from his injuries, and the timing couldn’t be better. A Nicaraguan cartel grabs the widow of a doctor who saved his SEAL team. Brady promised the deceased doctor that he would be there for the man’s widow if she ever needed him. And it’s time to deliver on that promise. Can Brady rescue Angie Maddox as he promised? And will he fall in love with her and be able to convince her they can have a life together?
This story line will keep the readers absolutely on the edge of their seats. This entire series promises to be exciting, suspenseful, and full of love and courage. Grab your copy and see if this book is exactly what you have been waiting for! I don’t think it will disappoint you! We all need heroes in our lives.
Brady meets Angie when attending her husband's funeral; he promises if she ever needs him that he will be there..little do they each know what exactly this will involve. Following serious injuries on a job and long recovery, he is forced to rest and recuperate at a beach resort. He sees a TV news about captured and kidnapped medics working for a charity and recognises her. he prompts a rescue mission with his team The Guardians, but goes it alone until his colleagues are able to get there. Nicaragua is a dangerous place for warring cartels and deep in the jungle is not easy. Danger from many sides, torture, fear, treachery romance, love, a future, all are covered and the feelings these two realise they have are heated. Lots going on as this is a full length novel with twists and turns, a well thought out drama and great characters. A worthy read.
Rescuing Angie kicks off a new chapter in the Guardians world with the story of the Bravo team's leader, Grady, and Angie, the widow of a man who once upon a time saved his life. And it will deliver kicks to you heart and your stomach with the tragedies that both have endured - and that is before she is kidnapped and then chased through the jungle by a cartel and he has to find his inner strength and mobilize all resources to save her. It is a story of sacrifice, endurance and strength, with a very well deserved happy ending for the couple. Yet there remain quite a number of unanswered questions in the end. Hopefully to be answered when the suspense part of the story continues with the story of Booker & Izzie. BRAVO, Ellie!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Woah, this book was a whirlwind!!! I opened it up and it just took off, keeping me captivated til the very last page!! Brady and Angie meet three years before the main storyline of this book (this is not a second chance romance) as seen in the very beginning, and fate brings them back around 3 years later to delve into much deeper water. Angie is working with Doctors Without Borders and gets caught up in a conflict between rival cartels down in Nicaragua. When Brady sees the woman he met 3 years ago, he jumps to help her. This book has it all from self deprecation, and struggling to find your place, to action, romance, suspense, and all the military man goodness you expect from Ms. Masters. It was a phenomenal read and I can’t wait to read more of her work!!!!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Recovering from grief, Angie joins Doctors without Borders and goes to Nicaragua. The group is taken hostage. A Guardian's member from Bravo team, Brady is recovering from a severe burn injury. He is on a forced vacation in Costa Rica when he sees news footage of the hostages, sees Angie and steps up to help. They had briefly met at her husband's funeral and Brady told her if she ever needed his help, Call. This is a fast paced page turner with danger, plot twists, angst, terror, trauma, and the connection between Angie and Brady all coming together in another amazing story by Ellie. This quote from the story really made and impact: " We were brought together for a reason, two broken souls finding the strength in the other.". I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ellie Masters has delivered Brady and the Bravo Team with an edge of your seat, romantic suspense read in Rescuing Angie. This story is the first of the Bravo Team and their adventures, and it did not disappoint in any way. There is action, an adventure through the jungle in Nicaragua, an instant connection between two people from their past and present, and the Guardian team at their best. Brady and Angie are two people that are trying to move past very defining moments in their life and this rescue and adventure brings feelings and emotions to the forefront. And to watch the two of them resolve and come to terms with several of their issues is a wonderful thing to read. I can't wait to read more from the Bravo Team and see where each member takes us.
This is the first book in the bravo team series and I would recommend that you read the original series even though you don't have to to follow the story but it is so good why wouldn't you want to
We have had hints about Bravo team in the earlier series and know that they where injured in a op down in Cancun now we get team leader Brady has been left with horrific burn scars over half his body and feels that no one will ever care for him again. He reconnects with Angie a woman he met at the funeral of one of his friends That friend was Angie's husband killed in a car accident that also took the life of her unborn child She may not have physical scars but she sure has emotional ones. Can two people scarred in different ways find a future together You will have to read to see
Team Bravo was injured on an ambush in Cancun, with Brady’s injuries here illustrating just how badly the team was hit. Struggling mentally with his recovery, he is sent to Costa Rica for a vacation before rejoining his team – and he sees news of a Doctors Without Borders team abducted in Nicaragua, recognizing one of the abductees. He’s a Guardian – what else is he going to do but head out there? Angie, the doctor he’s recognized, has scars too, but hers are internal, although no less devastating. Unable to wait for his team, Brady starts the rescue, and there is, frankly, non-stop suspense and tension – and heat.
This book isn’t an easy read; there is so much pain, especially from Angie, but there is also hope and a belief in a future, which is so needed right now.
I started following Ellie Masters with the previous series, The Guardian Hostage Rescue. This is a spin-off series and it has begun just as great. I was riveted to the storyline and absolutely loved the characters. The two main women in this book were strong. I loved the different personalities. Brady was a dream. I wish we had more of the other guys in this book. I loved Brady and Angie's romance. There is a HEA for them, but there is part of the storyline that remains a cliffhanger. I assume it will play out through the series. Looking forward to the next book!
