Greatest Hits of My Childhood Trauma

Rate this book
Greatest Hits of my Childhood Trauma is the story of a boy fighting to exist in a world that would rather throw him away. It's a raucous journey through visits to prison as a gay 13 year old, crooked psychiatrists and unending trips to the mental hospital, drug overdoses, bizarre early sexual encounters, and trying to find love in high school with boys who can't quite decide if they're queer or not. Laced with a biting sarcastic wit, this shocking tale of a failed attempt at conversion therapy will make you laugh, cry, and want to burn everything to the ground. Also known as "The Filthiest Gay Rapper Alive," Alex Dark (better known as MC Crumbsnatcher)'s debut foray into the literary world is not to be missed!

Full disclosure, Alex has been a friend of mine since around 2010. He’s an amazing person who has been through so much. Reading this book was difficult because it hurts to know how much he went through all before the age of 18. However, I found it incredibly courageous to hear Alex tell his story with all its messiness and vulnerability. I’m a queer person whose history is filled with fucked up stories of drug abuse and shitty relationships with family, messed up relationships with friends, seeking validity through sex and feeling lost. Although this book is incredibly intense, I also felt a kinship with it. More people need to be this vulnerable and honest about how they became who they are.

Today I completed the journey of this book written by Alex Dark aka MC Crumbsnatcher about his adolescent life and the challenges he faced growing up in a world that constantly challenged his quest to be the kind of person that he wanted to be.
Firstly, I am impressed with his writing skills. The flow of the pages and how the story was instilled into my thought process was simply skill, poetry and talent. I was able to take in every word and feel the emotions that he was feeling deeply. I admire him more then I already did.
2ndly, I am impressed with the man that Alex has become after fighting so hard and being unfairly challenged at so many parts of his life, as such a young age. It shows his strength and vulnerability and that's something u would want to seek in a role model.
3rdly, the emotions are a plenty. I laughed. I cried. I got mad....really mad....infuriated at times. I was depressed. I got hard as a rock. I almost vomited in my mouth. I felt every emotion thinkable. This is what a good book will do to you and that's exactly what it did.
.
Buy this book. Not only to support a local artist, but to feel the feels and understand him more. You will not regret the adventure that awaits you in these pages.
.
I hope he writes more in the future. Tell more about his life but also take a stab at fiction and create fantasies inspired by his feats.
.
Again....buy...this....book.

And thank you Alex. Thank you for sharing your life with us. That was super brave and incredibly inspiring.

This autobiography is a raw and courageous account of a young man navigating some of the toughest challenges life can throw at someone—struggling with sexual identity, battling substance abuse, and even facing wrongful commitment to corrupt mental hospitals. Alex Dark tells his painful story with an underlying sense of snarky humor that not only lightens the heavy subject matter but makes the journey even more engaging.

What makes this memoir stand out is the way it blends the perspective of someone on the autism spectrum with deeply human struggles that anyone can relate to. It’s not just a story of hardship—it’s also about resilience, survival, and self-discovery.

Difficult at times because of the raw honesty, yet ultimately inspiring, this is a brave and necessary book that sheds light on experiences many rarely speak about so openly.
