Imogen Taylor: New art classes. New sister?! Maybe a new boyfriend... Still screwing up.
Keeping my witchy abilities secret is harder than you’d think. I only torment the deserving—like my minions at the Desert Freeze. But when a friend asks for a magical favor, what harm is a little mischief…especially if it comes with a side of romance?
It was all supposed to stay in Vegas. Except, of course, I’m being watched. And my nemesis, Mr. Secret Agent Man, has no sense of humor at all.
What he has is a mission for me—though I don’t recall signing up to risk my life. But sinister powers are rising, and I must infiltrate the enemy’s base to discover critical hidden intelligence. Dangerous obstacles and lethal adversaries block my path at every turn.
Sounds like a fun quest, right? But, no, this is now my life. Unless I screw it up…
I grew up reading SFF, buying the biggest books I could with my chore money. While I loved the action, adventure, and exciting worlds, most of those stories were missing…kissing! Now I read and write paranormal romance and science fiction romance which I think mix the best of all worlds. I also write urban fantasy romance as Jessa Slade and sexy contemporary romance as Jenna Dales.
I spend most of my time at my computer thinking about stories, in my garden thinking about stories, or walking my dog thinking about stories. Hmm, I think there’s a theme… 🙂
I was breathless through most of this book. Is is action-packed, an emotional roller-coaster, and so much fun! A delightful combination of technology, magic and action, I couldn't put it down and I'll be on pins and needles waiting for the next book. Imogen discovers many new things about the technology loose inside her and some of it is a threat and some of it just scary. Mr. Secret Agent Man has lots to not say about the whole thing except that he has a mission for her. I am completely hooked on this series!
Hoo-boy. Imogen keeps getting tangled up to her eyebrows in dangerous situations and she's...well, things are complicated and messed up and she barely knows who she can trust when things go south. Everyone seems to be working toward their own endgame and the half-truths and lies of omission flow with disarming ease.
Frankly, there aren't a lot of great options for her. If she does nothing, the technology that's infected her could become a massive threat. If she steps in to try to stop things (as she did), she's putting herself in danger. Unfortunately, those aforementioned half-truths and lies of omission have her questioning a lot of things at the worst possible moments.
As for Imogen, she's gained a fair amount of control over her moths, but there's a lot she still needs to learn. But there's the whole trust thing again. The group of people who might be able to help her most are the ones who nearly killed her last time. It's tangled and complicated and BOY does Imogen have a lot to deal with.
(Might I just say that ending gave me a hard HOLY WHAT NOW moment. THINGS HAPPENED and I'm itching to see how Imogen and crew get out of the newest situation.)
Four and a half The second book in this series gives us greater insight into why Imogen is the way she is. Yet as much as I liked meeting other characters for this reader everything still comes back to just who Imogen can really trust. Sadly the recent and truthfully horrifying events have somewhat fractured her relationship with her mother so it felt right that she’s reaching out to the infamous Jackhole although I still ship a completely different guy for Imogen and yep this story actually has a few moments that seem to agree with me ! At least Imogen can rely on her amazing nano hive to protect her or can she ? I am loving the ideas in this series and it’s definitely one I would recommend for those seeking something completely different. Hey I might not always buy into the science completely but I cannot deny that it’s entertaining and page turning . There’s humour, action and shocks along the way and I like that Imogen isn’t perfect and frankly she’s a wee bit petty but that makes her more interesting. I am left gnashing my teeth at the ending though and I’m already desperate to read the next book. This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
This second instalment was great, i enjoyed it a lot and i would even say that if you haven't read book 1yet you can jump in this one and not feel lost Mo's thoughts give you enough information about past events so you get her background but are immediately in the center of action so you enjoy it to the fullest. Mo is learning about her powers and what she can do but more importantly she is slowly learning who to trust and who could be using her....she is even a bit paranoid. We also learn more about her family background when all of the sudden a half sister is calling her.
Helping Jacob leads her to go even deeper into the spy business as Mo try to do what is just even if it put her in danger and cause trouble with her family and friends.
I really loved it just i should have stopped reading before the epilogue because that's really a hard cliffhanger and i don't like those
It's a great YA sci-fi book with geek humour, to be recommended
AMETHYST FLAME is the second book in The Butterfly Witch series. We return to Mo as she heads out for a weekend in Vegas. She is still living with her mum and Manager at the Desert Freeze shop. Both she and her mum are still reeling from what happened at the end of the first book.
If I had to say what this book is about - in a nutshell - I would say trust. Or lack of it. Whatever. Basically, this whole book is a mindf*ck of who Mo can trust and rely on. There are secrets within secrets with all of them, but it is Mo on the frontline.
This book expands on what started in the first part, including a revelation about Mo's moths, and will absolutely leave you wanting more. My Kindle nearly hit the wall with the ending and I can't wait for the next book!!!
An Urban Fantasy where the heroine doesn't have all sorted within five minutes. Highly recommended by me. ** same worded review will appear elsewhere **
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Mar 4, 2022
Amethyst Flame is the second book in the Butterfly Witch series, and I would recommend reading this series in order. Imogen has been trying to remain undercover with her new abilities, but between a trip to Vegas with a potential boyfriend, a new secret spy mission from Mr. Secret Agent Man, and a new sister, her incognito life is about to get blasted away. But will her purple powers be enough to save the world, and her life?
Wooowww!! This book was definitely fast paced, full of all sorts of dangers and secrets and life changing moments and Imogen just blew me away with her courage and actions. I loved this book! That ending, too, ahh! I need more! It’s not quite on a cliffhanger, but it doesn’t look good for Mo! Imogen was put into many situations that she just felt so trapped. There were no good choices. Plus battling PTSD anytime she went into an elevator didn’t help her stress levels. Her world with the nanobots is quickly expanding, as does the danger. The ending scene was extremely impressive (and would seriously make a great movie) and I loved the danger, the grit, the determination, the kiss, everything! Once I made it to about 40% through the book, I just crushed it because I didn’t want to put it down! This book is different for me because I typically read romances, and while there are some budding potential romance threads that Mo could follow, I loved this book! It and fantasy with a bunch of video game elements and magic and danger and explosions and, phew, it’s really good!
Imogen Taylor is at it again in Amethyst Flame (Butterfly Witch #2) by Elsa Jade, Erin Kellison. This college age woman already had her hands full with her mother illness and working at a dead-end job but the new technology that has found its way inside of her has given her a whole new lists of worries.
Now Imogen is trying to get back into art classes again with several other news in her life too. However, her unique abilities give her an edge to go on “secret” mission thanks to Mr. Dark Suit from the first book. So of course she is up to her ears in dangerous places, learning things about her new self that is also dangerous. All of this taking place fast than you can order, “One Frootee Sun Funz, please.” What a story!
I remember saying after the first book in this urban fantasy would be more for younger adults than me. However, I have been reading urban fantasy for many, many years. This is fresh, original, and so much fun like the genre was when it first came into having a following. With that in mind I take back that statement saying this series is for anyone who loves a thrilling, urban fantasy story. OR maybe anyone who remembers feeling like you were not sure who to trust even without the tiny robot moths invading your system.
The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“and with a quick flattening of my right hand, I gave my moths the command for [map]. My moths dispersed and, after a few moments, in my mind’s eye, a blueprint of the venue slowly formed,”
That is the coolest. ability. ever. Imogen could use gaming commands like [map], [shield], [grab]? I know this book reads like a marvel superhero action flick, but the ex-gamer in me loved it. Imogen, Dane, Jacob, Swann, and my new favorite mother figure, Ruskin all had a chance to shine.
Since Imogen spent a large part of the novel working through her own insecurities and trust issues, and frankly, deciding to take her career into her own hands, it was not as funny as the first novel. However, the climatic fight in a Vegas amusement park left me cheering and bothering my husband with snippets of the action.
There are some pithy phrases I would like to share with my coworkers and friends. Things like: “I drove until even existential dread couldn’t surpass the annoyance of sequential three-minute stoplights.”
• Second novel in a series. I recommend you start with the first one. • Young, moral heroine taking circumstance and learning how to make a career out of it. • Wonderful and capable side-characters • Evil Hive Will was a perfect villain, and I sympathized with him. • Romance: yes, there is a kiss. It is spectacular. 💋 • Not for teens or younger.
Wow it’s been a weird couple of months for Imogen she’d absorbed nanotech, nearly died from having said nanotech forceable suctioned from her body and if that’s not bad enough she finds out from Jacob that someone else is trying to make a nano hive yes the technology is out there but in the wrong hands it can be totally disastrous so it seems the only way to find out what is happening with the hives and how to stop them from being released into the world is to go back to the place that she almost died in and hopefully with the help of super spy Dane and gamer/hacker and wannabe spy Jacob maybe she can find the information she needs to stop the manufacture of these hives as all is not what it seems the technology isn’t as stable as everyone first thought and finding out what is going on with this technology has just become life or death situation for Imogen

So how do you deal with nanobots in your blood stream, working at the Desert Freeze, managing mom and art school and.....a super secret spy guy? You go to Vegas! Mo ..Imogen is invited to disrupt an announcement on some "stolen" tech by her gaming pal...Jacob and it..works!!! Dance music and lights out! Celebrations take a wicked turn when secret agents, undercover work, angry mom and a surprise, BIG SURPRISE! turn a weekend get a way into a life and death and life whirl wind struggle. Who to trust and who to distrust when everyone wants something from you, ....but do they want you, the you that isn't nanobot revisioned?? Mo can't decide who to trust and time is running out! Suspenseful, sci fi....or real life? tech adventure that keeps you turning every page!
Oh my goodness I hated to see this book end, It's absolutely fantastic in my opinion. The characters are wonderful. They're unique and compelling. This is a fascinating read where tech and magic collide. There's some action, and a little hint of romance in this fast-paced read with a sarcastic heroine who just wants to live her life, but she is trying to stay under the radar of the people who want to study her abilities and lock her away from the people she loves. I would very much like to see more books in this series. I loved it!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
AMETHYST FLAME by Erin Kellison and Elsa Jade is the second installment in the brand-new Butterfly Witch series. Get ready for a fun and fast-paced read. Add some on-line video gaming, nanotech and fantasy and you have a wild adventure waiting to happen. It's fast paced and keeps you guessing about who is friend or foe. Couldn't put it down.
Imogen Rose Taylor is a fun and snarky character with plenty of everyday problems besides the nano tech ones. She left college to help her mother, she works at a smoothie drive-thru, has troubles with her sister, not to mention the FBI, Black Suits and industrial spying.
Working down-low, Imogen, has gained a fair amount of control over her moths, but there's a lot she still needs to learn. But it's hard to practice when you're worried about mad scientists coming for you. Now Mr. FBI Dane wants her to intern and snoop at the same place that almost killed her and her mother. Piece of cake, what could go wrong, right? There's lots of action, in this story
This series can be read as a a standalone story, but so much better starting at the beginning and picking up the back story.
I did receive an advanced copy from the author. The above is my freely given and honest review.
A robust second book to this new series. I highly recommend you read the first book before this one, or the events in this book might take a while to get a grip on. If you have read and enjoyed book one, get stuck into this one. As the overall story progresses and evolves, new twists and side stories embellish the novel without distracting too far away from the core story. Lots of action, mystery, rogue nanotechnology, and big decisions.
ARC Review For honest review. Imogen rose Taylor when she gotten infected with a stolen molecular tactics give while playing ledendelirium and while live streaming Jacob Aaron got more then a eye full. Now she is going to las Vegas to meet up with him but Mr. Secret Agent who she doesn't want to see has a mission for them instead awesome story lots of act in and adventure.
I love this series. Imogen is a fun and snarky character with plenty of down to earth everyday problems besides the magical tech ones. It's fast paced and keeps you guessing about who is friend or foe. Couldn't put it down! I received a complimentary copy of the book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a wild ride! This is a very well written intense read. Imogen with her "purple power" ends up over her head with the bad guys in such a twisted story. The Billboard was a funny twist and the ending was a shocker. I received an advanced copy of this book and freely leave this honest review.
Oh, what a rollercoaster ride of a book this is!! I couldn't put it down until I'd finished...and the ending!!! How'm I gonna cope until the next book comes out??! Do you like intrigue, tension, excitement, technology? Yes? You gotta read this.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Definitely hooked on this series now. Imogen thinks she's got her magic handled, but there's a dark side to everything. Determining who to trust is never easy, when everyone seems to have their own agenda...
Fanbloodytastic book Imogen is one of the best character I have read about in a long while ,I love how fast paced it is also the storyline is very interesting.
