For years, Jaime has yearned to find a place she can call home – and has been let down time and again. She finally followed her heart to Scotland, the home of her ancestors. When she falls in the woods near her ancestral family home, she awakens with a pair of strong arms wrapped around her – and is convinced that she has finally gone mad.
Son of the laird of the McDermonts, Alec is torn between avoiding his arranged marriage and keeping peace with a warring clan. Convinced treachery is on the horizon, he needs a plan – and when he finds Jaime alone in the woods, he senses a way out.
When Jaime agrees to a fake marriage, little does she know the depths of Highland clan politics she is falling into. Finding herself caught between Alec and his family, she must help keep the peace before she returns where she belongs… if only she can discover just where that is.
This is a steamy Scottish time travel romance and was previously published as Bride for a Time.

4.5 Stars Jaime Abernathy escapes to Scotland after finding her partner cheating on her whilst walking she falls through time and into the arms of a man from 1544. Convinced treachery is on the horizon, he needs a plan and when he finds Jaime alone in the woods, he senses a way out. Jaime agrees to a fake marriage, little does she know the depths of Highland clan politics she is falling into. However there is an attraction between Alec & Jaime which can’t be denied. A lovely time travel novella, which I devoured in a sitting. I loved both Alec & Jaime, their attraction sizzled & only when they thought they were losing each other did their true feelings emerge, would she stay or will she go? Well that would be telling! A very well written captivating read My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
She decided to go to her deceased parents home in Scotland to get away and ended up in 1544 Scotland! Looking up she sees a tall handsome man all dressed in a Scottish costume it seems!
He cannot believe the lovely lass he finds, and thus begins the journey to happiness! He is torn because he was suppose to wed another but as they travel, the attraction cannot be denied.
Of course nothing is easy, so there are many twist and turns along the way and a steamy attraction ensures! Another great story by this amazing author!
First off, I need to compliment the author/publisher for stating in the blurb this was previously published as BRIDE FOR A TIME. Oh, how many times have we all started to read a story and it sounds so familiar and realize it was previously published. I didn't read a Bride For A Time, but I appreciate the heads up.
The Prologue made my heart ache for the h and I loved how she handled it. From the start the h was someone I liked. The H/h made a nice couple. The H didn't believe she came from a time 500 years in the future, but she hit her head and was confused. After awhile nothing much was mentioned of this.
Ellie is one of my favorite author's so if you haven't read her work, I urge you too. This is my first from her as a time travel story. I've stated many times, this isn't my favorite genre.
The story doesn't go into all the aghast the h experienced in traveling back in time and I think it needed more of that. I always think of stupid stuff like didn't anyone wonder why her legs and armpits weren't hairy? Didn't the h miss deodorant, tooth paste etc. How did she adjust to the different foods? Those are things if I time traveled I'd be complaining about - lol
I wanted to know what happened to the Clan that caused all sorts of problems? Nothing was mentioned and inquiring minds need to know! One mild skirmish and I did wonder how they went unnoticed.
Lovemaking outside and within marriage - heat level 3 out of 5. This author knows how to pull you into the story with her character's and I did feel a connection to this couple. Some suspenseful moments near the end that I wondered would she stay or go? Satisfying epilogue too.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, touch of romance and spice. Story ended at 90% on my e-reader and rest is blurb for next story.
I received an advanced copy, all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)
Entertaining story which invites the reader to join with Jaime and Alec on their roller coaster ride to romance. I felt for them both when outside influences and actions looked to be pushing them apart, but I was pleased with the ending. This is a great book, and I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series. I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
First just let me say, one can never go wrong with a book by Ellie. I have read a lot of hers and they always deliver a great story this one is no different. Life has not been nice to Jaime Abernathy . She just had a breakup with her boyfriend. She lost her parents in an accident just as she started college. She is feeling lost and alone. The only place she ever felt at home was with her parents in their cottage in Scotland. With no family left to worry about her she decides to get away from it all and go to Scotland. When her ex will not stop texting her, she grabs some food and sets off for a long walk to clear her head, oh well best laid plans and all. She gets lost, falls and wakes looking up at a very tall, build man in a highland costume or is it. She finds herself still in Scotland but the year is 1544! Wow what a fall that was. Alec McDermont doesn't know what to make of the lass that fell from the sky but she is beautiful. She seems lost and he feels the need to help her. So, begins a journey where they will both learn what life, love and happiness are all about if they can trust each other. Secrets and fear of speaking their feeling to each other almost ruins everything. This is a steamy love story for those who like to know. I loved both the H and h, both were good people. One trying to do what was expected of him and and she was just looking for a place to belong. Lots of emotions in this book. The interactions between the two is wonderful. Some twist and turns and the best and cutest sisters ever make this book great. I hope you get a copy and see if past and present can have the happiness all need. I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it, This is book one of a new series "To the Time of the Highlanders". I can't wait for book two.
Present Day - Jaime Abernathy lost her parents in an unexpected storm while on a boating trip a few years ago & now she has lost her long-time, live-in boyfriend after catching him cheating on her. Amazingly, she didn't feel sad, she felt free - her next plan was to go to the house/property in Scotland her parents left her after their death.
1544 Scotland near Crieff - Alec McDermont, next laird of the McDermont Clan, & his brother had travelled to Crieff to sell some sheep & were now heading back to their home near Perth. It was a warm November night for Scotland & suddenly there were no sounds - no birds, no insects & then Alec heard limbs breaking & something hitting the ground. After searching the area, being wary it was a trap from thieves, he came upon a body of a strangely dressed lass - Jaime.
This begins Alec & Jaime's wonderful relationship - they make a deal & he promises to help her find her way home. But will she go, will he let her go? Wonderful couple & his sisters are adorable - such a fun, romantic & happy ending! I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.
Alec- in 16th century Scotland, feels obligated to marry an enemy's daughter to create peace between the 2 clans, and senses it’s a bad idea. Jaime- in 21st century, feels out of place, after her boyfriend cheated on her she goes to “find herself”at her family’s land in Scotland.
I enjoyed reading this captivating time travel historical romance. This story is well written and that is very descriptive, felt like I was there. The story Started in Boston Ma 2017/present day and ended in 1544 Crieff Scotland. I also liked the sub character Fiona, the “fairy godmother?”hmm. Their story has a loving hea and is sweet proof of home is where the heart is.
I also read this when it originally came out as Bride For A Time by Audrey Adair (pen name for Ellie or vice versa) loved it then and now. It is just slightly different just more descriptive/informative in the prologue and few other places. Out of curiosity had to buy the book to compare.
I've always been drawn to historical romance set in Scotland and to time travel romance. This book fit both categories. I liked Alec and Jaime and felt they were a good couple. This book had all the ingredients for an outstanding time travel romance, but I felt that it fell short. There just didn't seem to be enough plot development. ***SPOILER ALERT***After a certain tragedy happened, the following events felt glossed over and the HEA felt rather abrupt. I think I'd have enjoyed the story more if it had been longer and the plot more fully fleshed out. It's not a bad read; I just think it could've been so much more.
Who is Fiona? Your so called boyfriend pulls the unforgiveable so you go to your place in Scotland. No big deal right well you decide to take a walk and the next thing you know you are in the 1500s. This may just be a bit of a problem for our heroine. This was a very enjoyable book I liked Alec, and how the story was written. I had just the right amount of drama woven into the mix too. I hope you check this one out and perhaps take a time-travel adventure too. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I truly enjoyed reading this time travel story about Jaime and Alec.
I always like any stories written by Ellie St. Clair and this one did not disappoint. I read it all in one afternoon as I did not want to put the book down.
I do not usually read time travel stories, but enjoyed this one so much that I'm really excited for book two to be released.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Jaime is going back to Scotland where she has a family cottage. When she gets lost in the woods and finds herself literally at a handsome Scots feet in the 1500’s. He needs a wife and she needs a protector. This love story was sweet and there were some appropriate and steamy love scenes. Overall a very enjoyable read.
It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve read a time travel romance.
So, it was particularly enjoyable to read this one. Steamy, yes. Elements of Outlander? Absolutely. This Jaime is a modern lady who falls through time while in Scotland. Alec is the laird she colludes with. Politics? Yep. And family, too. Recommend.
This book is a total delight! Jaime and Alec’s story was filled with great dialogue, a sizzling romance, and deadly clan conflicts . Even though 500 years separated their births, this hero and heroine were soul mates, and their hearts knew it before their minds did. I have not read very many time travel stories, but this one has me wanting more.
It was kind of sweet. Very rushed. I liked alec up until the resentment part. Then, for days and weeks he was emotionally distant, which was very abusive. Then I couldn't get behind the ending. It wasn't a happily ever after to me.
I listened to the book and read along. I loved the story as they encountered one another, grew to love each other while dealing with their very different customs and times, along with the ways of Scottish clans and the tension. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
I have enjoyed this book. I used to not read these but there is so much happening in the world I enjoy some thing different sometimes. Alec and Jaime were brought together in time for love.
The narrative was good and it didn't take forever for the heroine to realize she had time-traveled. I didn't give it 5 stars because I didn't feel a lot of passion between them. Whether it be physical or in their relationship it just wasn't there for me.
Alec and Jamie's story has ups and downs as their relationship develops. Jamie unexpectedly discovers the past suits her. Alec's plan has unforseen consequences which they face together. A good story showing differences between the centuries.
A time travel saga, with a godmother who makes peoples dreams come true by sending them where they are most wanted and needed even though they don’t know it at the time
I have always loved time travel books and this one entranced me and kept me one the edge of my seat until the epilogue. If you like time travel, don't miss this one.
This is a lovely time travel novella. It is a quick and easy read that can be done in one sitting. It has sweet characters who engage in witty conversations. Jaime is from the future and finds herself in 1600’s Scotland. There the she meets Eric, a man who finally fulfills all her dreams.
