Part of the True Crime International series, I accessed this title with my Kindle Unlimited membership. Thirteen cases were presented in this volume I, a Canadian and True Crime fan was aware of approximately seven. The "new" I have marked with an asterix. They are not presented in chronological order but I was very impressed that a German author would make sure to choose cases from all over the country in different provinces. Great information that helps readers understand the Canadian justice system. If I had one quibble, I hate when true crime authors tell us what the victims were thinking in their head before they're getting killed. Like how does the author know that? It happens only a few times but it irked me.

„True Crime Kanada“ ist wieder einmal eine gelungene und interessante Sammlung wahrer Verbrechen eines ausgewählten Landes. Einige Fälle kannte ich schon, allerdings nicht so detailreich wie hier beschrieben. Andere waren mir gänzlich unbekannt, aber gerade diese sind dann gleich umso spannender.
Eine Sache, die mir bereits in den anderen Bänden aufgefallen ist, lässt sich langsam aber wirklich nicht mehr ignorieren: wer macht bei diesen Büchern eigentlich das Lektorat? Beim Suchen ist mir vor allem aufgefallen, dass diese Reihe im Selfpublishing verlegt wird, deshalb ist unklar, ob es überhaupt ein ordentliches Lektorat gibt – und das fällt auf. So wird beispielsweise der Begriff „Amber Alert“ mit „Bernsteinalert“ übersetzt. Ja, Amber heißt Bernstein, aber Amber ist vor allem ein englischer Mädchenname. Der Amber Alert heißt so wegen des entführten Mädchens Amber Hagerman, nicht wegen der Bedeutung „Bernstein“. Eine Übersetzung mit „Bernsteinalert“ ergibt hier also gar keinen Sinn. Außerdem wurde z.B. der Begriff „temperamentvoll“ komplett falsch verwendet – nämlich, um zu beschreiben, wie gut jemand sein Temperament im Griff hat. Des Weiteren wird mehrfach wiederholt, wie Karla Homolka sich heutzutage nennt – das reicht ein oder zweimal. Das muss man nicht in jedem Absatz neu erzählen.
Ihr seht, es sind Kleinigkeiten. Aber es sind halt Kleinigkeiten, die einem das Gefühl geben, dass hier entweder niemand nochmal drübergelesen hat, bevor das Buch veröffentlicht wurde, oder dass hier einfach Stümper am Werk waren. Hoffe, dass sich diese Probleme mit dem Erfolg der Reihe beheben lassen, wenn sich dann ein ordentliches Lektorat finanzieren lässt.

This is a collection of thirteen true crime cases in Canada and I personally think it was a good book! I loved the concise content, and engaging writing. Although I am familiar with almost all the cases discussed in this book, I'm still glad that I've read this book and learned about one of the most heartbreaking cases I've heard - the Jane Hurshman Corkum case. I'd recommend this book to all true crime aficionados!

You know, when something bad happens and they check out the browsing history? That would be me. They would be “yup, she’s guilty, look at what she watches and searches for”. Why are we so interested in true crime? Why do we want to know so much about things that can be so gruesome? I don’t know the answer to that but do know I read a lot of true crime and watch a plethora on tv.
Living in Canada, I was very interested in reading this book. Some cases I knew of, some not.
In the first case, I remember the nation being at different ends of the spectrum on whether or not Robert committed a crime. Somewhere in there, in cases like this, the right thing to do isn’t always the right thing to do. I am on Robert’s team on this one.
Karla Homalka. Ah, one of the biggest mistakes to have ever been born. Mom should have been taking the pill. And then Canada’s legal system and Canada corrections at its worst. The first point or one of the first points mentioned is about she being a mom. Maybe she appears like mom of the year, but she isn’t. We all know what she is capable of. Sure, Paul was his own kind of monster but no one died until Karla. Her innocent children are the ones that will continue to pay. I mean, whose is wanting their kid to have a playdate at Karla’s house? How’s she going to explain her actions to her kids? Even the comment she makes about other people doing bad things get out too. So she’s still the poor victim. And by the way, I did take great offence to have her compared to likeness of princess Diana. Not cool at all.
I am not a fan of diminished capacity being a defender as in a couple of cases. Such a gray area. A few years in a facility and then letting them out is not an appropriate sentence. There is too much at stake. Who is making them stay on their medication? Who is babysitting them? The families of their victims are no less dead and murdered because of a questionable defense.
Peter Whitmore. Another mistake of nature. This case is so shocking in the fact that Whitmore never should have been released in the first place. How many times does he have to offend before being labelled a dangerous offender. How many times before Canada’s Justice system gets a brain? This never should have happened if Canada corrections had done what it should have done. As I was reading it though, his name was so familiar and I didn’t know why. As I continued on, it came to me. I met Zach several years ago at a protest on Parliament Hill with Justice for Tori about the need to make changes to Canada’s Justice system; in sentencing among other things. This remarkable young man hopped a plane from out west to come to Ottawa to speak about his experience. He told his story and relived the hell he went through to fight to make improvements to our Justice system.
I could go on forever about the disaster of Canada corrections but this is about the book. Well researched, really interesting to read. Sometimes in true crime anthologies, you get a lot of technical things and details that you won’t remember 10 minutes later. This book was different in the story telling. It gives a lot of information but not too much. It gives you a variety of time periods;
you usually hear about the most prominent Canadian cases but I really like how the author did go back many decades in regards to cases that aren’t as well known. I did enjoy reading this one so much that I just downloaded the USA one.

Adrian nimmt uns auch dieses Mal wieder mit in die abgrundtiefe Welt des wahren Verbrechens. Kanada haben dabei die wenigsten auf dem Schirm. Denn hören tut man hier sehr wenig bis gar nichts. Darum ist es umso schockierender, wie perfide und mitreißend die 13 ausgesuchten Fälle sind.
Adrian erhält dabei dieses Mal auch Unterstützung diverser Podcaster, die den ein oder anderen Fall als Gastautoren vorstellen.

In dem neunten Band der ,,True Crime International‘‘ Reihe führt uns dieses Mal in das kalte Kanada. Durch dieses Buch erfahren wir, dass auch dort das Böse sehr präsent ist und uns in grausame Dinge führt. Kanada gibt einem schon die richtige Atmosphäre für die bestimmten True Crime Szenen. Und auch dieses Mal merken wir, dass das Böse wirklich immer und überall lauert und auch lauern kann…
Ich habe den neunten Band genauso sehr verschlungen, wie all die anderen Bände zuvor. Ich bin fasziniert davon, dass Adrian Langenscheid uns in diese verschiedene Länder führt um uns auch die grausamen Seiten des Landes zeigen und nicht nur die schönen Seiten, die man immer so im Internet sind. Ich liebe True Crime und bin schockiert davon, was für grausame Dinge auf der Welt passieren. Und das wir den größten Teil davon gar nicht erst mitbekommen, ist noch viel gruseliger…
Auch in diesem Band bringt Adrian Langenscheid verschiedene Podcasts mit in sein Buch an und das finde ich super. Ich habe auch hier den einen oder anderen Podcast für mich neu kennengelernt und bin sehr gespannt darauf, was diese noch so an die Welt bringen. Die einen finden das nicht so gut, was ich überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen kann. Denn für mich sind die Empfehlungen immer super!
Dieses Mal gibt es 13 Verbrechen, die uns nach Kanada führen. Der Autor hat die einzelnen Fälle sehr gut recherchiert und man merkt deutlich, dass er sehr viel Mühe, Liebe und Arbeit in dieses Buch gesteckt hat. Die Kapitel sind nicht allzu lang und sie haben dementsprechend genau die richtige Länge. Außerdem finde ich es super, dass die Fälle mittlerweile ein bisschen detaillierter sind, als noch im ersten Band. Von daher kann man voll und ganz in den einzelnen Fall abtauchen. Vorab möchte ich anmerken, dass es in diesem Buch keine Trigger Warnung gibt. Deshalb spreche ich meine jetzt hier aus und ihr solltet euch bewusst sein, dass in diesem Buch grausame Themen angesprochen werden, die bestimmte Dinge hervorrufen können, die nicht hätten hervorgerufen werden sollen. Also achtet beim Lesen bitte auf euch!
Der Schreibstil von Adrian Langenscheid hat mir auch in diesem Buch wieder sehr gut gefallen. Er hat einen angenehmen, flüssigen, spannenden und auch fesselnden Schreibstil, der einen in seinen Bann zieht. Außerdem sorgt er dafür, dass man das Buch gar nicht aus der Hand legen möchte und man immer weiter erfahren muss, wie es weitergeht. Das Buch hatte ich innerhalb eines Tages durch!

"Jedes Verhalten wird allein durch die Absicht gut oder böse." (Gloria Beck)
Verhängnisvolle Familiendramen, brutale Serienmörder, Folter, Betrug und schockierender Missbrauch erwarten und in der neue True Crime Ausgabe aus Kanada. Geschockt und fassungslos hat mich dieses Buch wieder einmal gemacht, besonders mit dem was Menschen anderen antun. "Erlöse sie von dem Bösen" zeigt uns die Ausweglosigkeit des Vaters eines schwerstbehinderten Kindes. Darf ein Mensch über das Leben eines anderen bestimmen? Ich selbst bin bei diesem Thema hin- und hergerissen, besonders bei diesem Fall. Eine Tierquälerei führt uns in "Du kannst es nicht stoppen" zu einem wirklich grausamen Mordfall. Der sogenannte Vakuum Katzen Killer wird in ganz Kanada bekannt und gesucht. Das er allerdings noch mehr als nur Katzen tötet, ahnt da noch keiner. Mit dem Massaker von Montréal befasst sich die Story "Der Würfel ist gefallen". Bei einem Amoklauf am 6. Dezember 1989 werden in der polytechnischen Hochschule Montéals 14 Frauen getötet und weitere 14 verletzt, eher er sich selbst richtet. Feministinnen hätten sein Leben ruiniert, war mit einer der Gründe seiner Tat. Eine heftige Geschichte wird in "Pakt mit dem Teufel" geschildert. Das Serienkillerpaar Ken und Barbie, wie man sie auch nennt, foltern, vergewaltigen und töten dabei junge Frauen. Diese Horrortaten wird keiner je in Kanada vergessen, schon gar nicht die Familie von Karla Homolka. Ein wirklich abscheuliches Verbrechen zeichnet die Geschichte "Bus 1170" auf. Dieser brutale Mord an dem 22-jährigen Tim McLane in einem Greyhound Bus macht mich einfach nur fassungslos. Den diese Tat ist so unbegreiflich traurig, dass ich mit der Familie mitfühle. Dies sind nur fünf von elf wahren Kriminalfällen aus Kanada. Einem Land, das ich bisher nur durch seine wundervolle Natur und Schönheit kenne. Adrian Langenscheid hingegen hat mir jetzt die Kehrseite dieses Landes aufgezeigt. Den auch in Kanada gibt es Mörder und Verbrecher. Nach seinen beiden letzten True Crime Büchern aus Deutschland, wo ich viele Fälle kannte, waren diese hier für mich alle total unbekannt. Sehr ausführlich und mit viel Liebe zum Detail schildert er hier diese Kriminalfälle.
Fazit:

Verhängnisvolle Familiendramen, brutale Serienmörder, Folter, Betrug und schockierender Missbrauch erwarten und in der neue True Crime Ausgabe aus Kanada. Geschockt und fassungslos hat mich dieses Buch wieder einmal gemacht, besonders mit dem was Menschen anderen antun. "Erlöse sie von dem Bösen" zeigt uns die Ausweglosigkeit des Vaters eines schwerstbehinderten Kindes. Darf ein Mensch über das Leben eines anderen bestimmen? Ich selbst bin bei diesem Thema hin- und hergerissen, besonders bei diesem Fall. Eine Tierquälerei führt uns in "Du kannst es nicht stoppen" zu einem wirklich grausamen Mordfall. Der sogenannte Vakuum Katzen Killer wird in ganz Kanada bekannt und gesucht. Das er allerdings noch mehr als nur Katzen tötet, ahnt da noch keiner. Mit dem Massaker von Montréal befasst sich die Story "Der Würfel ist gefallen". Bei einem Amoklauf am 6. Dezember 1989 werden in der polytechnischen Hochschule Montéals 14 Frauen getötet und weitere 14 verletzt, eher er sich selbst richtet. Feministinnen hätten sein Leben ruiniert, war mit einer der Gründe seiner Tat. Eine heftige Geschichte wird in "Pakt mit dem Teufel" geschildert. Das Serienkillerpaar Ken und Barbie, wie man sie auch nennt, foltern, vergewaltigen und töten dabei junge Frauen. Diese Horrortaten wird keiner je in Kanada vergessen, schon gar nicht die Familie von Karla Homolka. Ein wirklich abscheuliches Verbrechen zeichnet die Geschichte "Bus 1170" auf. Dieser brutale Mord an dem 22-jährigen Tim McLane in einem Greyhound Bus macht mich einfach nur fassungslos. Den diese Tat ist so unbegreiflich traurig, dass ich mit der Familie mitfühle. Dies sind nur fünf von elf wahren Kriminalfällen aus Kanada. Einem Land, das ich bisher nur durch seine wundervolle Natur und Schönheit kenne. Adrian Langenscheid hingegen hat mir jetzt die Kehrseite dieses Landes aufgezeigt. Den auch in Kanada gibt es Mörder und Verbrecher. Nach seinen beiden letzten True Crime Büchern aus Deutschland, wo ich viele Fälle kannte, waren diese hier für mich alle total unbekannt. Sehr ausführlich und mit viel Liebe zum Detail schildert er hier diese Kriminalfälle.

Wie schon bei den Bänden davor gilt, die Fälle sind interessant, gelesen wurde es furchtbar und generell würde den Büchern ein Lektorat nicht schaden, auch wenn es im Self-Publishing herausgebracht wurde, oder gerade deswegen. Jetzt gibt es doch schon einige Bände, die sich wahrscheinlich auch verkauft haben, ein anständiges Lektorat kostet nicht die Welt.
Wer True Crime mag wird hier aber dennoch zufrieden sein, wie ich unterm Strich auch, da interessante und schockierende Fälle erzählt werden.

"True Crime Kanada" ist der 9. Teil der True Crime Reihe von Adrian Langenscheid, 13 Fälle aus Kanada werden hier präsentiert.
Ich habe bisher alle erschienenen Teile der Reihe gelesen und kann mich bei den meisten Punkten eigentlich nur wiederholen. Langenscheid achtet auf eine ausgewogene Mischung an Themen sowie Tatzeiten, der älteste Fall stammt aus den 50er Jahren, der jüngste Fall aus 2014.
Die Fälle sind spannend erzählt ohne reißerisch zu wirken und haben für mich größtenteils die perfekte Länge, sodass man alle wichtigen Infos gebündelt hat und trotzdem noch Zeit hat sich in den Fall hineinzuversetzen.
Was mich leider etwas gestört hat war die Menge an Gastbeiträgen von diversen True Crime Podcasterinnen. Während Langenscheid in den letzten Bänden kaum solche Beiträge hatte, lässt er es hier anscheinend so richtig krachen. 5 der 13 vorgestellten Fälle sind solche Gastbeiträge. Mein größtes Problem ist dabei die Umgewöhnung im Bezug auf die verschiedenen Schreibstile. Während manche dem von Langenscheid recht ähnlich sind, sind es andere wiederum eben nicht und das stört dann doch ziemlich den Lesefluss. Einer dieser Fälle war mir persönlich auch zu kurz erzählt, sodass mir die oben genannte Zeit zum Hineinversetzen gefehlt hat.
Grundsätzlich kann ich "True Crime Kanada" aber wirklich empfehlen. Wer sich für True Crime interessiert wird hier einige spannende Fälle finden.

The cases are again shocking and exciting. However, I already knew many of the incidents described here from YouTube or TV documentaries.
What struck me negatively, however, are translation errors, spelling mistakes, and other errors. This really should not happen with such a successful book series. It simply detracts from the actually very good book and gives a wrong impression.
The book is definitely recommended. However, this time my rating is only 3 out of 5 stars.

I listened to the audiobook and it's not bad, but would have benefited from a good editing. There was a lot of retakes that wasn't edited out, and also som throat clearing etc. If you can't stand things like that, don't listen to this, read it on paper instead.

Wow been waiting!
This is an author I’ve recently found and really enjoy reading this whole series… you get the full stories and most of the times the crimes are different ones then you hear about all the time! I get so tired of reading about the same stories over and over. But another plus to this series is you are hearing about stories from different countries as well. I found all these books are well researched and written…. And I just wish they were able to write faster, lol…. But this is def a very good book and worth the money and time! Keep up the great work!

This is an author I’ve recently been fortunate to find thanks to Ryan Green and I really enjoy reading this book. I found I got the full story but condensed so it didn't take me long to read. The stories are from different countries and each chapter reports on a new crime. The book is well researched and written.

First time actually reading a collection of true crime stories and really interesting reading about ones that had happened in my home country, some I’d heard before and others I was shocked to be learning about. Overall a very good read, I really enjoyed the story telling and feelings the author was able to provoke through each event

I've listened to several books in this series as audiobook. I have some chores to do around the house at the moment, and I've found these audiobooks to be perfect for that. The stories are short, yet comprehensive and well-written, entertaining, but also somewhat disturbing. An added bonus, I find, is that you also learn something about the country where these events took place.

Different authors don't bother--overall quality poor
Some of the stories make sense. However, others are so badly edited they don't. Entire book needs b readers and a professional editing. My favorite was a patient in hospital with blazing blue lights. Who had blue lights? The hospital or the patient?

I enjoyed this one! Each chapter is a different case in canada. Some were well known cases and some were ones I haven’t heard of before. They are written in a short story format

No greqt shockers in this book (Canadian Cases) and the translation is a bit odd in spots- but well researched and he develops the persona of the people involved. Very interesting.
