Deep in the Piney Woods of Texas, can Lux Branson find a creature that may not even exist?
Female bounty hunter and expert tracker, Lux Branson, is hired by cryptozoologist, Dr. Stevens, to find a legendary creature that he believes lurks in the Piney Woods.
What she doesn't count on is leading a motley team of field Sam, the pompous anthropologist; Julie, the know-it-all biologist and survivalist; Ben, whose tattoos hide more than they reveal; and Hal, a seasoned adventurer.
In the unforgiving Texas woodlands, their days-long foray to seek Bigfoot leads Lux and her team to a remarkable discovery... and possibly a hoax.
But when one of the team disobeys a direct order, the tables are turned and the hunters become the hunted. Now, it will take all of Lux's instincts and training to help her team survive the impossible danger and emerge from the woods alive.
Five adventurers head deep into the woods seeking proof of a living legend... but will they live long enough to tell their tale?

★★★★★ “I truly enjoyed K.T. Tomb’s story. The author embodied Sasquatch with more humanoid features and intelligence. Lux, the lead, is a fantastic character with many talents and uses baser instincts. There’s some high-rated gore, but felt deserved. I found it easy to believe the attributes of Bigfoot. I’m on to the next book!” —Amazon review
★★★★★ “I enjoy reading about things paranormal, but I don’t necessarily believe in them. However, the idea of human-like beings intrigues me. K.T. Tomb shows the possibility of such creatures in a terrifyingly real way. Interesting and believable characters, both human and otherwise. Great read.” —Amazon review

This was an incredibly interesting book in that it pits a team of researchers versus the creature. The characters were excellent as was the storyline. Thank you, K.T. Tomb. I look forward to the next book.” —Amazon review

I went into this book with low expectations, being a free download about a search for Bigfoot. I was pleasantly surprised. The action starts right away with the prologue. The writing was professional and the author has a very broad vocabulary. I also don’t believe I saw one typo or editing issue. My only complaint is at the climax of the story, it fizzled out a little bit. I would certainly not hesitate to pick up the next in the series or even read another one of the adventurous series by this author.
I truly enjoyed KT Tomb's story. The author embodied Sasquatch with more humanoid features and intelligence. Lux, the lead is a fantastic character with many talents and uses baser instincts. There's some high rated gore, but felt deserved. I found it easy to believe the attributes of Bigfoot. I'm on to the next book. Take some time. Read this book. Escape the pandemic and political warfare in our lives at present. Please, wear a mask, wash your hands and use your brain.
A sort of hum-drum creature feature book. Even though it's short, it feels long.
A group of cryptid hunters go into the Piney Woods of Texas to look for Bigfoot. After pages of slogging and sweating, they find them, much to their regret. Then they start making the usual bad decisions people in these kinds of books always make.
Way too much boring character development, not enough Sasquatch terror.
Walking in the woods will never be the same. I have often walked in the woods and had a feeling I was being watched. The suspense that was built waiting for creatures to show themselves was incredible. Well done! Loved it.
With Halloween upcoming, I pulled out my collection of cryptid tales for a reread, while adding others from items available on KU to expand my monster mania. Though, are the wild ones truly the monsters? Or are the humans who hunt them?
While fairly well edited, this book didn't engage me. It was short, which isn't always a bad thing, but in this case, it was. The characters are not engaging, and I truly didn't care about any of them by the end. Lux could have been an interesting character given development, but it didn't happen. Julie and Hal were barely outlined, while Stevens was a characture. Ben was much like Lux in all ways.
The one saving grace of the piece was the outline of the Sasquatch. The way they were portrayed was much gentler than most portrayals of cryptids. They have a social structure, and a clear sense of right and wrong. They aren't just savage creatures bent on ripping apart and eating humans, which I liked. I would have enjoyed exploring that concept in a more developed book.
After finishing book I'm just going to do my short review for it here. I absolutely respect this authors she has a wonderful way of telling these stories however the subject matter was so scant the author had a really good story going in the first book however it just became about the two leads and their relationship developing etc etc then the character switch eh it was OK but even though I was a bit disappointed in the stories in the first few books I still had developed a liking for Ben and Lux especially Lux she's a really well written character. I really wanted too see more development with the creatures from the first book as well it was just so fascinating but the author had another vision and it's the authors art not mine. I wish I could give this 3 and a half because it doesn't deserve nothing but unfortunately I feel it doesn't deserve a 4.
Lux Branson is a tracker and bounty hunter who desperately wants to pay off some debts and get out of the life. Cue the "one last job" trope. When a mysterious client offers her a large payday to head a small expedition into the Piney Woods in Texas, she takes the job. Then, things get weird. The assembled group have some odd professions, and finally, she's told she's looking for Bigfoot, which she absolutely doesn't believe in.
Deep in the woods, life is different, and they keep getting the feeling they're being watched. Much to Lux's disbelief, they start finding evidence that what they're after might not be another tall tale after all. Then, like you knew would happen, someone does something stupid, and everything changes. Now it's a desperate run to get out of the woods and away from what they were looking for.
It's a decent story, no big surprises or bad scenes. I can't say I really felt like I connected with any of the characters in this one.
A bit of a slow start. Not a really likeable character - maybe Hal - in the group.
The author seemed to bounce back and forth deciding if each individual was astute, foolish, cowardly, or foolhardy.
***Potential Spoilers***
Lux...she just didn't flow right. Unless these Sasquatch had some sort of psychic fear attack, her reactions weren't what one would expect from the primary protagonist.
And, I'm not sure of K.T. Tomb is a man or woman, but I can't help from noticing how (other than the stupid, dead scientist) all the guys seemed to handle the existence of Sasquatch far better than the two women. Am I detecting a whiff of misogyny?
When I read the Epilogue, I wasn't so sure the book was for me. It was short and kind of pointless - I guess just to show us the beasts could be deadly? I don't know. But once I started reading the story with all the character interactions, I enjoyed it.
Descriptions were vivid and I liked the monster that Tomb's came up with. It is a different take on Bigfoot.
I fully expect to read the next book in the series. I hope it is as good as this one.
This is truly a believable story . I felt like I was in the jungle with them. That jungle could have been anywhere . I totally believe that Sasquatch exist . The characters are so real and lifelike. To me a great book is when you feel you are right in there with them. I will recommend this book definitely.
A group of people is hired by a billionaire to search for sasquatch. Lux the leader is an unbeliever. All her beliefs will be shaken before this one is over. This one was not as bloody as most bigfoot books I've read. Althoughi it had it's share of gore. Hope the next book in the series of the little more exciting but I will read it.
4.0. Freaky, spooky, straight to the point. Fun read but very short. Felt like there could’ve been more explored with the forest and the creatures but I suppose that’s what the next books are for. Probably could’ve just combined them and saved a lot of trouble. I’ll read the next one at some point.
I went in on this book with pretty low expectations. What a nice surprise! Characters that I liked right off, an unexpected story line, and now I want more. On to the next book-
I enjoyed the book. I liked the characters and the build up that expressed something different than other Bigfoot books do. it was somewhat anti -climatic though. I expected more action. But still a good read. Look forward to more.
The writing was excellent. The plot was just OK. It was good for a change, though, and I would look for another Tomb book in the future. Perhaps something longer and more complex. There's a talent there!
Too much dialog and character interaction and not enough sasquatch. At the end the author writes "they were free". Free from what? The creatures.described in book are boring and unscary.
A very quick read. The book is short. Characters are well thought out and the storyline is well developed. The book just feels like it moves too fast and is over simplified.
I’m a fool for Bigfoot stories but lately they’ve become tediously similar. I’m not going to be a spoiler but I will say this was different enough and the characters were delineated and fleshed in enough to keep my attention to the end.
Tired of teenaged glitter vampires and male model 'werewolves'? Here is a grownup story for you. Filled with scary woods, and mysterious creatures. I am looking forward to reading more books by, Tomb.
Good Storyline. Interesting characters. There seems to be a loss of the whole concept of the reason the team is sent on this job but the part the group plays makes up for it.
What an exciting story. Tracking something that doesn’t want to be found is difficult. There was action, mystery, hair raising feelings and you could feel the apprehension of the characters.
Tomb has an easy-to-read way of writing most enjoyable, almost believable tales! Realistic characters in realistic scenes throughout. Well worth reading!
I liked this read. The details on the Big Piney forest in Texas are right on. I was a little surprised to find it is one of a series, so I will follow on to Australia, and see what we will see.
A great story with suspense, intrigue, curiosity, adventure. If you love exploring the outdoors, hiking, forests, and tales of the unknown...I recommend this story!
