Book two of the critically acclaimed Colorado Skies series, Half-Told Truths weaves multiple mysteries into one seamless plot.
Kim Jackson is starting to get used to life on the run. In Durango, Colorado, she has found work as a part-time bookkeeper and as a live-in housekeeper for Lena Fallon, an ex-cop paralyzed in the line of duty. Kim’s old life as a corporate accountant—when she was framed for murder and forced to go on the run—feels far away until someone from her past spots her in the tourist town. Too soon, danger comes to her doorstep, reminding her that she can’t be safe while the man who set her up remains free.
Kim’s housemate and boss, Lena, is no stranger to the dark side of humanity. Lena is still reeling from the unsolved crime that ended her law enforcement career. She doesn’t give a damn about her latest housekeeper, until she senses Kim is hiding something. When Lena tries to pry out the truth, Kim demands to know why Lena isn’t solving the mystery in her own life: Who shot her, and why?
While Kim and Lena forge an uneasy alliance to investigate Lena’s case, a new face in town is playing a cat-and-mouse game with a dangerous man. As Kim and Lena come closer to finding answers, their paths cross with the newcomer, and they are left to wonder if the price of uncovering the truth is too high.
I found this interesting and thought maybe it would be the beginning of a new series featuring the same two characters. Guess not, as a result the conclusion left me feeling quite unfinished.
It took awhile to sort through the characters and story lines in this complex mystery. An unnamed woman is murdered as her young daughter waits for her to come home. Her body has never been found, but someone has never forgotten her loss. We move on to Kim Jackson and her attempt to escape from a fraudulent charge of theft and murder. She finds herself in Colorado starting a new life, but always looking over her shoulder. She is the caretaker for former detective Lena Fallon who was shot in the line of duty and is now confined to a wheelchair. Kim urges Lena to reopen her case to find the person who shot her, but will the ripples of a new investigation lead to danger for both of them? I enjoyed the story, but it seemed a bit unbelievable that Kim would be able to recognize scenarios and suspects that the police hadn’t. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Kim Jackson, the hero of Amy O. Lewis’s Colorado Skies mysteries, finds herself in Durango, a town in Colorado’s southwest corner. She pedals her bicycle through winding mountain streets, looking over her shoulder at dangers from her past life. Meanwhile, life caring for a hardened ex-cop exposes Kim to new dangers and mysteries. She can’t seem to resist digging into these new mysteries. Neither could this reader.
Half Told Truths is a page-turner. A compelling plot set in a part of the country known for adventure and personal journeys. I can’t wait to see where Kim Jackson’s life on the run takes her next.
Everyone has something to hide or something they are running from in this fast paced mystery. The characters are unusual and I found them very credible, which always helps me to really feel engaged in the story. Great setting and descriptive language adds to the sense of immersion.
Continuation of A Mounbtain of Evidence- the protagonist moves into another town where she takes up another temp job and olves a mystery(atleast tries to)
The story of people pretending to be someone they are not and all for different reasons. Kim Jackson quit her job in Chicago and tried to disappear and hide out in Durango Colorado. She finds a nowhere job as a caretaker for a cranky X-cop who has been confined to a wheelchair ever since an unsolved crime resulted in her being shot and paralyzed. Very good intertwining of murders and secrets makes this a very good book Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy
