When her father, a white doctor known for treating Native Americans, is murdered, Sheleen is rescued by Chief Midnight Wolf and finds solace in his peaceful, hidden village and safety in his arms, until two very determined men track her down. Original.
Edwards began writing romances in 1982 and released her 100th novel, Savage Skies, on August 28, 2007. Although her earlier books were classic historical romances, the vast majority of her novels involve Native American tribes. Edwards's grandmother was a full-blooded Cheyenne. Her first 99 books sold a combined 10 million copies as of August 2007, with her more recent novels averaging sales of 250,000–350,000 copies.
Edwards has won the Romantic Times Lifetime Achievement Award and the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice Award, as well as being named one of Affaire de Coeur's top ten favorite romance writers. Edwards has a reputation for meticulously researching the proper anthropological backgrounds of each tribe she writes about.
Edwards and her husband Charles, a retired high school biology teacher, have been married for over 50 years. They have two sons, Charles and Brian, and three grandchildren. The family lived in St. Louis, Missouri for over thirty years, but now reside in Mattoon, Illinois.
One of the best Cassie Edwards books yet! I loved how Sheleen shot off the cruel white man's finger after he needlessly killed her father. And she found her family among Midnight Wolf's people, which was touching.
To be a Dakota Indian in 1862 Minnesota was to live in constant fear of lynching and hanging. Even a white doctor known for treating Native Americans was viciously murdered, leaving his daughter, Sheleen, to fight off his attacker and flee for her life.
Rescued in the remote woods by Chief Midnight Wolf, Sheleen felt she had found her true home at last. In his peaceful, hidden village, she would no longer dream of mysterious white wolves saving her from danger; in his bronzed, muscular arms, she would no longer feel alone. But Sheleen still had two men tracking her down, one enemy among the Wolf Band, and a secret that must be revealed. Before she could know the ecstasy of complete fulfillment, she would have to resolve this...SAVAGE INTRIGUE. I really love old western romances, especially hot indians!!
I would give this book a C. I didn't quite like it but I didn't dislike it either. First I was annoyed how long it took to actually get to the point of the story. The beginning is important to the story but it seemed to take more time than needed to actually get to the point...half of the book was done before the two characters even meet. Also I can never get passed the fact that the relationship never seems to be well established in these books no matter how much I enjoy the characters. It can deal with fast relationships but not if they have no ground. It just doesn't make sense in my mind. This particular 'savage' book had a lot of potential but just failed to deliver more than interesting characters that I couldn't truly love becuase it never got farther than that.
I loved this story. It was written so beautifully that I felt like I was a part of the story. That I could see smell taste and hear everything happening. I could not put this book down.
I have read other Cassie Edwards books but this one read like a 6th grade children's book. Her earlier works are great. And they were the reason I read so many of her books. Such a disappointment.
