Hunter's Moon

It's time to claim my fate

Last week, I was a hotel maid who had no idea magic existed. Today, I’m the prisoner of a werewolf pack. I had to steal from them to save a friend, and now I’m behind bars. The shifter council has given me two choices — fix the problem I’ve created. Or die.

To make thing more complicated, the werewolf alpha is my fated mate—and now he hates me for my betrayal. The attraction between us is off the charts, but it doesn't matter. His loyalty is to his pack. He would avoid me if he could, but he can't. When we're forced to work together to save his pack, it becomes clear that neither of us is going to escape with our hearts intact.

Hunter's Moon is the final book of Linsey Hall's enemies to lovers, fated mates romance duology. If you like humor, spice, and action, then this is the series for you.

description

Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Storyline was original and intriguing. Lyra is a very good FMC with interesting past and exceptional powers that come into play. I do feel like more could have been done with this aspect. We climaxed early and then the read was over. Felt a little disappointment with how little we experienced her new found powers.

On the romantic side, it was fast. So fast I read it again to make sure it happened. Like a hit and quit it for a reader. Hurt me feeling a bit here too.

Good series. Could have been a 5 star with just a little more spice.

Happy reading,

Book 1 and 2 should have been combined to be 1 book. There was no reason for it to be split into two.

Anyway, this book had a whole lot of nothing going on then At like 75% through the second they’re like “omg there’s a prophecy you must talk to your dead grandma”

It felt like the author realized nothing happened the entire book and needed to throw something in fantasy related. But it just felt like it didn’t belong, it was too late into the book.

For most of Hunter's Moon, I was confused. While I enjoyed the story, and pretty much everything Linsey Hall writes, this book felt rushed--both the dialogue and the plot. The previous book ended with a cliffhanger and this one kind of brushed past what got Lyra into that mess in the first place.

Also, I thought this book jumped from one scene to another, and I really would have liked some additional detail and explanations in some spots. I don't know if because this was a duology instead of the normal four or five books she writes for each main character, but all I know was that I sped through this book.

Even the big reveal at the end about the extent of Lyra's powers at the end of the book was just glossed over. I was really interested to know more!

I don't really like giving three-star reviews, I consider myself a pretty easy person when it comes to the books I read, but I was left wanting and with a lot of questions by the end of this book.

Three and a half
I have to say I'm torn between being glad that this couple get their happy ending and a bit nonplussed that more didn't happen. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book as it was original and went in a completely new direction for the author but now the journey ends after two books I cannot help but think maybe just the one goodly length book might have been better ?
Lyra and Garreth sure did get off on the wrong foot which I actually liked but here they just didn't quite set the pages on fire as much as I'd hoped. I really wanted better explanations if I'm blunt but hey it's fiction so I can just go with the flow. Mystery, interesting side characters and of course romance made me happy but sadly not my favourite book by this usually on point author.
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Fantastic book! Paranormal with many different types of weres. Garreth is alpha to one pack Sam is the alpha of another that plans to take over Garrett’s pack. Lyra didn’t know she had magic but once she knows she kicks ass! The story is full of suspense, mystery, intrigue and romance. The characters are great. They and the storyline are well developed and keep you turning pages. Ms. Hall did it again!! I received a complimentary copy of the book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.

Good Read

This was a nice duology and it was interesting to see how it all ended in the second book... i will say that the whole talking to her ancestor at the grave using a charm was done in the shadow guild wolf queen book Linsey did I recognized it straight away 🤣 which is fine but at the same time I was like u did that already lol
Anyways good conclusion to the story i loved that Lyra could shift into multiple forms and in the end Olympia pack became a mixture of different shifters.

Hunter’s Moon

I really enjoyed this duet and this was the perfect ending. Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down. Wonderful world building and perfect chemistry between Garreth and Lyra. I loved Lyra’s personal growth and that it wasn’t just over night.

Better than the first because of the resolution, but Hunter’s Moon suffers from the same plot issues I found in Midnight Moon.

Shifter fate

Linsey does a great job with this book! This story is not part of the shadow guild. I was hoping it would tie in some how but any who, it's a great read. can't wait to see what she does next.

I like the bones of this story, but the further in I got, the more I wondered if this was one of the authors earlier works that I had previously missed. It just wasn’t as well written as most of her other stuff.

Spoilers ahead along with plot issues and such.

I found the book to be mostly repetitive. Things learned in one chapter are brought up several times more in following chapters. This happens a lot.

Everything happens to fall into place every single time. If they need something or someone that item or person is easily accessible. There are no sacrifices of any type, whether it be emotional or physical. On day one she gets a bff to help her infiltrate the enemy compound. Sleeping in the desert? A keep they borrow conveniently has enough sleeping bags and camping mats for all there.

There are no real conflicts between characters aside from the bad guy wants to steal the land. All characters are very 2D with vague emotions. The primary emotions between the two main characters is insta-love and insta-forgiveness.

The father went from always stealing from the daughter and mother, to the point where the daughter loses her home and all of her possessions every time he shows up in book one, to he was never there because he was trying to protect her in this one.

Why can’t the shifters smell when another shifter has been in the room/area within an hour or so? Especially when it is a cabin that is seldom used. They can only smell/sense the other shifter if they are currently in the room. This makes no sense.

Garett is a super clingy alpha. He never leaves her alone if he can help it and when he can’t he knows exactly where she is at because of their mate bond that hasn’t been acknowledged and consummated and she has earrings where they can communicate with each other.

The villain straight out says he knows what she is and her role to play halfway through the book. There is no deception for the reader to figure out and even the FMC is all “meh, whatever”.

She never eats lunch, feels that all she wants is to “survive” within the villain compound but no one is being outwardly hostile, not even the villain. We don’t even see any examples as to why his pack is so bad to begin with, aside from a few wanting to steal other land. Unwarranted fear.

This story is a super fast read, to the point where after a bit you can skim the pages and still know what is going on. That, and the fact that the plot is given up to like 65% of the way in, including the ending.

When I first began the journey on the Rebel Wolf series I had no idea is was a duology. I thought this would be a trilogy but book two, “Hunter’s Moon” manages to wrap things up neatly.

We begin with Lyra sitting in jail awaiting her fate after being caught helping the alpha of the city pack steal a rare book. When brought before the council Lyra ingests a truth serum and reveals she was blackmailed into helping the city pack in exchange for the life and freedom of her best friend. The council believes her but insists she is taught the ways of magic and how to shift. She also vows to get back the book.

As Garreth wrestles with his desire to trust his mate but also protect his pack he realizes that staying away from Lyra is going to be an impossibility. He must protect her at all cost and they develop a working relationship in order to develop a plan to win back the book. As Lyra manages to befriend, Phoebe, one of the members of the city pack she also opens up to Garreth about her past.

With Phoebe’s Lyra manages to get into the city pack compound and locate a man who knew her father. He will provide her will valuable clues that will assist her in facing down Sam Montblanc, the city pack alpha.

There were some pretty good action scenes and it was nice to finally learn all about Lyra’s lineage but in all truthfulness this read felt rushed almost as if the the author grew bored with the story and wanted it to end. Don’t get me wrong, this was a decent follow up installment just not fabulous! Oh well, we win some and lose some.

HEA my own heart!

I truly loved this! Linsey please use these characters again. You could do a whole spin off on the packs coming together. Or create a new character that is a fated mate to someone in these two packs. I love that even though Lyra's family is dead she gets to know her dad through his friend. And she meets the ghost of her grandma who is the historian of the pack. I love how her grandma is so well respected and loved by everyone. I feel it was important for Lyra to have someone in her family that was as great as she is. The fact that she has seer blood makes sense as well. There are times she has certain feelings & instincts that I believe come from her bloodline. It is sad what happened to her father but good to know he was trying to prevent fate from happening. It's rather silly though you can't change fate. I believe he was noble not wanting his child to have to go through that however, there is usually a reason it has to be a certain person fulfilling a prophecy. Her father should have stayed home & spent time with his daughter. I bet her mom wouldn't have turned to drugs either.

Love Bites

Lyra and Garreth are fated mates who have a love/hate relationship that stems from a long history of heartbreak and trauma from their past. But can they overcome the pain of the past long enough to make it back to where they belong?
Lyra has so much growing to do when it comes to her magic and she has to deal with the problem that her father left behind that has followed her for years, and now threatens to make her life miserable, and potentially even kill her.
Garreth, can’t seem to get past the fear that he will be like his father and fail his pack. By taking a fated mate and being happy. He would rather be miserable and begrudgingly unhappy than have a good life with a human or a non wolf magical being.
So essence this book is about two people fighting for their lives and their feelings for each other and the packs of wolves and large cats.
This book was not as good as the first book but it is a fast and easy read. I read it in two hours so it was an easy read. And I am a fast reader so it was an easy peasy read.

As a new start to another part of Linsey’s world, I had hopped Lyra would have a story more like Carrow did. Lots of mystery that we learn the answers to as she fulfills her purpose.
I have a lot of questions about who Lyra is, why does she have the power she has? Is this it for her? Why did she not consider Utah past the brief moment she was there? Etc
I feel like I still don’t know who Lyra is.
I did like the way the story finished and did think her issue with Sam was fully explained and resolved.
I like the way she tried to help the city pack and that she got her HEA, but I don’t really know whose story would naturally be next.
Phoebe, Seth, Viv or Kate all seem like they were built up enough for you to remember them, but I don’t feel as attached to them as I have with characters in previous books.
I hope the next series has more of the spark i have grown to love from her books. I’m torn how to rate this book.

A mix of feels

I liked the story, but the pacing was completely off. We spend most of the books drowning in powerless frustration, and then there is one shining moment when she discovers her power. And that’s it. One swipe, bad guy is out. We got one sentence of a happy ending and it was not enough. This was a story that cried out for an epilogue.

Also can we talk about the fact that the MMC was a complete asshole? And frankly at times I found him no different than the big baddie. Let’s see: willing to use deadly violence to achieve goals- check. Willing to use FMC as a pawn without feelings and discard when not needed - check. Willing to make choices for FMC life without her consent- check. Utterly untrusting of others motivations, rampant paranoia, check check.

I liked the idea of this book duo (and why WAS it a duo, btw? Totally short enough to be one book) but the execution was off.

Lyra was shocked. Faced with what she had done, her reaction was swift and certainly couldn't be any other way. Betrayal was something that already had affected Lyra's and Garreth's lives, and in a devastating way, and trust was a touchy subject for both of them. I like how the author creates situations full of mystery, magic and unexpected twists that keep me interested and expectant. Lyra and Garreth's story is shorter than the stories that this author has accustomed us to, it is true, but it is full of action, suspense, magic, adventure, mystery, violence, a deranged villain, an exciting fight, romance and passion. She pleased me that with this interesting duology I didn't have to wait long to find out the outcome of the situation they were experiencing between them and the conflict between the packs. Voluntarily review this copy that I loved.

I did not like Lyra’s character in last book, this book still do not like her what so ever. I think what got to me was her “it’s just a book it might be worth a lot of money but it’s just a book” attitude of disrespect of others property that you want to steal. Her justification was they kidnapped her friend Meg, which is really not a friend kind of a work friend a person you get along with. Thing is Lyra did steal the book that was more than a just a book. Essentially she hurts people but that is ok, regardless of the ending with her superpowers she has nothing redeeming about her she is still self absorbed. This almost feels like a cookie cutter book. Thus Linsey becoming more of a cookie cutter author, that will be shelved in the my never read again author list

Another gripping twists and turns book about shifting wolves and mountain lions and how they should be working together. A Special Mountain Lion learns on who she is and what she is and what she’s fated to complete. It’s a great storyline on how someone who had lived and suffered growing up while not knowing who she is and where she came from; not wanting to trust others to find another alpha whom she can rely upon, trust and become a true mate. The story can impact readers who have similarly suffered and know that they can learn to trust others to help them grow and heal. A book for those who love to read about shifters

A great choice for a rainy day when you just want a fast, easy read and a nice HEA. If you are looking for a good short book that is interesting and suspenseful with a heroine you can cheer for and some good romance this is a good fit! I wouldn’t call it fluffy because it does suck you in, but it it’s a nice light read- the kind of book I crave after finishing an intense series or a long, dark book. A perfect palate cleanser if you like urban fantasy with a heavy leaning towards paranormal romance.

(My personal distinction between the two is the amount of @ss-kicking the main character dishes out- UF is much heavier on the bad@ass side of things in my opinion).

Okay so the first one I really liked but the second one? I don’t know I just find it so weird this whole over the top whichcraft stuff and talking to a dead person. Her being so over powered and it all just got to a ridiculous point. Totally took away the focus on werewolf’s and mates and their world. It was just too much and the intimacy? Again, just like in the authors newest book, she creates an insanely good tension and waits for sooo long and when they finally do it it’s soooo short! Like what is wrong?? I’ll definitely won’t read any more of this author it’s a waste of time for me sorry..

I’ve been reading this author for a long time, and I quite enjoy the way she writes. I was eager to start this second book in the series, and I found out that this was actually the last one, a duology. Usually, the author’s series last a few books. Boo! LOL! However, what I found was a just what I’ve always expected: great writing, non-stop action, and fun characters. While I wish this series had had a couple more books to fill out some of the actions, this was still the quality I’ve come to expect from this author. A great wrap-up to the series. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

I adored Linsey Hall’s Midnight Moon, the first book in her Rebel Wolf duology and have been looking forward to its sequel. Well that sequel, Hunter's Moon (Rebel Wolf, Book 2) is here and somehow it’s even better than Book 1. Pretty freakin’ amazing but there you have it. It’s a perfect enemies to lovers, fated mates paranormal romance novel that ends the duology in grand style. Action, adventure, laughs, fun, romance, challengers to overcome and total fun. Lyra and Garrett’s story had it all, and it’s all superbly presented - and easy to highly recommend.

Normally I enjoy Linsey's series. I found myself having to check to see if this was really a Linsey Hall series. The first book in the duology was much better, but this book... yikes.

A lot of the revelations were repeated. There were a lot of "huh?" moments. You're introduced to other characters and given tidbits to their troubling past... with no conclusion. Why bring up the tidbits at all? They didn't add to the story.

I didn't find myself rooting for the leads. I didn't care if they found their way to each other.

Her "destiny" was lackluster.

Again, I was really confused that this was a Linsey Hall book. I never have been disappointed by her stories.

A nice conclusion to Lyra and Garrett’s story. We pick up right where the first book left off, Garreth is holding Lyra in a cell while they are trying to decide her fate. Lyra realizes she made a mistake in handing over the book to Sam Montblake and works together with Garreth to end his rein and unite the packs. Overall, It felt a tad bit rushed in the emotional / character development aspect but for the story line itself it was clearly all finished nicely. I do wonder what’s up next!

Most excellent. I had to re-read the first book before I read this one because I'd forgotten what happened. It was a joy to read these two books back to back. I loved the characters and the story was wonderful. Not what I was expecting which was a bonus for me. Linsey Hall has wonderful world building skills and I always lose myself in her books. This was great book to be lost in. Thank you Linsey.

Lyna ends up in the jail and werewolf council sitting in the middle of the room hoping they don't kill her, and how did she change into a mountain lion that night in the woods trying to protect Garreth.
Lyna has to help the Olympia Pack and get that book back as she goes to the city pack. As she leans about her shifter and her father past and that she has a family pack.
She has magic in her, Garreth is finding out how strong she is, as she is the one who will mend the two Packs together.

Amazing story. The characters and world build is good. Lyra and Garreth's relationship hit me with all the feels.I really enjoyed both books although I wish there was more in the series as I was loving the story so much. The only small criticism I have is, the end of the book felt a little bit rushed. It's still a "must read" though.

Rushed

The whole story felt like it was too short. In particular, the relationship between Lyra and Garrett felt really rushed. Everything moved too quickly, especially when you compare it to earlier offerings. I appreciate that this may have been designed to be a novella, but not my favourite.
