She is a challenge so enticing he can't resist.

Alpha General Thorec is shocked to find a fiery female trespassing in his territory.

Unfazed by his size and overbearing demands, she refuses to leave, and glares at him with a beautiful malice he enjoys too much to ignore.

The Alpha throws her over his shoulder, intent on keeping her.

But Ria proves more of a challenge than he anticipated.

The stormy harmony between them burns brighter than either of them are prepared for.

And though Ria may try to escape it, Thorec will not allow their profound connection to be denied.

This was such a great novella. I was in the mood for a lighter read, something for escapism, and this delivered. I'm pretty picky when it comes to Omegaverse short stories or novellas. This is a good one; money well spent.

I loved reading about Ria and Thorec! Zoey Ellis is great at writing feisty heroines without falling into the trap of making them bratty. I also have a thing for silver foxes and enjoyed the age gap romance. Cailyn had a great appearance too.

Zoey Ellis has created a large fantasy world, similar to Game of Thrones or the world found in Kushiel's Dart. I appreciate how she's infused customs, culture, politics, environmental issues, etc into the world. It adds meat and bones to her universe. World-building is what separates the good Omegaverse from the mediocre. I'm loving the world-building in this series.

Side note: I would pay Jacqueline Carey big money if she wrote some novellas for side characters in Kushiel's Universe. Like Nicola L'Envers or Mavros Shahrizai. I seriously cannot wait for Jocelyn's POV.

Ok, back to the book. Everything was done right in this novella. Page length is 116 - just right. The pace just right, dialogue just right, just enough plot, the sex was hot, etc.

I also loved how there was a slightly unique take on the Alpha/Omega dynamic. The focus wasn't on the Omega having her heat and it's always refreshing when the Alpha doesn't immediately claim the Omega. Watching the chase was fun.

This novella is a standalone, but I think it would be best if readers at least read Crave to Conquer first. I haven't finished all of the Myth of Omega series yet, and I felt this was a solid standalone.

Short read, Omega are out in the world now but there doesn't seem to be enough for every Alpha. The general finds his as she trespasses in the mountains he's responsible for. We get the typical back and forth as this Omega was especially resistant. Not terrible but unfortunately way too familiar

Lox and bagel General Thorec discovers Ria in the Afghanistan Ariyon Mountains. Knowing that she is his fated mate, he takes her home with him. But Ria is looking for something and to find it she must run...and run...and run...

Note: While the MC's relationship is a stand-alone, most of the worldbuilding and some of the secondary characters appear in previous books.

If you're looking for an Omegaverse that has many of the usual generic tropes, but isn't dark or non-con, you will enjoy this. I know I did. As always, Ms. Ellis excels at worldbuilding. Ariyon's topography and people are clearly modeled on Afghanistan: a relatively small country that has managed to defeat three superpowers -- and Ariyon certainly holds its own against this world's superpower here.

In addition, both Thorec and Ria were very likable and achieved character growth. One refreshing aspect was that each had objectives separate from the usual overwhelming sexual urges common to this genre. Thorec was a warrior dissatisfied and frustrated with his peacetime life (or, as I tell my Film Noir classes, Post-War Disillusionment). Ria, like many and is desperate to know who she is. I loved that both ultimately fulfilled each other emotionally rather than just sexually.

Finally, I'm a sucker for an H who will do anything for an h and Thorec does -- in spades.

4 1/2 stars. The book needed one more proofing and some lines of action regarding secondary characters are left open. It's possible they'll get a book one day if Ms. Ellis ever returns to this world. I really hope she does.

Surprisingly enjoyable

With having read about 10 books in Zoey Ellis’s omega universe I went into the read having and idea of how the story would go. The surprise came with how enjoyable the relationship between Ria and the general envolved into. It was the same MO with omega and alpha dynamic but it was fun to see Ria make the general really work for their relationship and she purposely did it. In the end he was so freaking sweet and although it was the typical love at 1st sight with him to her rush I felt like toward the end of the book the relationship felt genuine.

I was provided with an Advanced Reader's Copy by BookFunnel in exchange for an honest review.

Let me start by saying that I'm a huge fan of Zoey and have read all of her books. This one was a great surprise, as I was expecting the next book to come out in 2020. Even though it's a shorter story, it doesn't feel rushed at all. Thorec and Ria have great chemistry. I missed the MoO universe so much. And we even got a couple of scenes with Drocco and Cailyn!!

Premise: CANDESCENT is a novella-length, fantasy Omegaverse romance that delves into the depths of dark, consuming love. This story is set in Zoey Ellis’ Myth of Omega world but is a standalone story with a HEA. For fans of possessive Alpha anti-heroes, feisty Omega heroines, and fiery romances. This story includes romance of a dark nature.

Setting: Eastern Lands

POV: Dual point of view between the hero and heroine in 3rd person narrative.

H rating: Thorec is the typical Alpha you'd expect from a Lox warrior, somewhat arrogant, overbearing, strong and determined; but he is also considerate and sweet.

h rating: I love Ria. I like my heroines feisty and willful. She has a strong personality and doesn't let Thorec push her around. She has a mission she needs to accomplish and a domineering Alpha will NOT stand in her way.

Overall thoughts: This is a must read. Loved the story, the characters and the setting. Kept me hooked throughout the whole book. Definitely waiting for the next short stories, yay!!!

This read takes place in the Myth of Omega world but is can be read as a stand-alone with no issues. Thorec is a general in Drocco’s army and yearns for an omega of his own. Ria is a strong and stubborn omega and no plans to take orders from Thorec. Fast-paced read with of drama and intense chemistry. Ria is strong but her mate doesn’t plan on letter her go. I loved it.

Thorec does not disappoint!!

I always will love me some Drocco and yasss he makes an appearance in this albeit all too brief, but Thorec comes close. I will always have a soft spot for the Lox and the worldbuilding Zoey masterfully does around them. The landscape of the various Lands within the Myth of Omega series is so vivid and fascinating. Thorec and Ria's love story is shorter than what I would've liked in that I would've liked to see more understanding on Thorec's part of Ria's struggles as Drocco did around Cailyn's as an Omega, but his strong desire to build a family of his own portrayed enough of an incentive to understand the deep love that evolved so quickly between them. I loved Ria as a character, that she was strong, crafty (in Magic as well), and gave Thorec a merry chase many times, even literally, in their story. She was more than a match for him and I actually enjoyed the fact that she genuinely enjoyed him as a partner without having first fallen into a Haze that takes her will out of it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and it has Zoey's usually decadent eroticism. ;) Can't wait for the next installment with Roclan whom I've always felt bad for lol.

Thanks to the author for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.

Just when you thought that this series was over.... BOOM. This amazing author whips out another amazing Omega story. This story captures General Thorec (from Drocco’s Empire) hunt for his omega.

What did I like? Everything :) I was so happy to be grabbing another glimpse of this amazing series that it ended way too soon. Ria and Thorec were everything an alpha and his omega should be. Loved it!

Would I buy or recommend? No brainer... if you love the rest of the series then this is a spicy addition. If you haven’t read the series then your seriously missing out!

Thoughts for the author! Please write more! I devoured this series and I just love it!

When Thorec is alerted to a disturbance in his territory, he didn't expect the disturbance to be a pretty girl whose scent is intoxicating but one second it was there and the next it was gone. Then he understood what the smell was and where it comes from. Omega. The girl. The girl dangled over his shoulder was Omega. It was an infrequent thing to find an unmated Omega wandering around and not at the palace, where pairing events took place for Alphas to find their omega. Not only was it dangerous because an unmated omega around Alphas was a prey waiting to be ravished but they held a high value because of their rareness and has been missing for a decade.

"You taste delicious, my brave challenger. I shall indeed enjoy you." "I am not a delicacy," She said sharply." The instant her scent fills his nostrils he can't help the need that overcomes him. But it disappears as fast as it comes. He knew he had to have her. To mate and claim. She resists but what she doesn't know is that he has waited many years for his omega and now that he has found her he won't let her go.

Ria is lost and desperate to find out who she was before she was taken away. She has never had a place to call home and after all these years helping support the Omegas, she wanted to do one thing just for herself. She made her journey to the Eastern Lands in hopes to find the only person who might be able to help her figure it out. She didn't anticipate finding a home in the arms of an Alpha.

He keeps her captive in his house and when a chance at getting away is aroused, she makes a run for it. She was not going to give up on her mission for the General Alpha or let him distract her thoughts when all her focus should be on finding this other Alpha.

He's not happy when he wakes up to find his Omega gone. But he knows he will do anything in his power to get her back.

"I have a challenge for you," she said after a moment, a mischievous smile on her face. Thorec narrowed his gaze. "That sounds highly appealing" "It is." Her hands went to his pants "You're not allowed to touch me or move" Thorec groaned, "This isn't a challenge, it's torture"

Thorec
47y/o
Alpha
General
brown hair
green eyes

"Yes, like fuck them until they are wet, and begging, and filthy with my sweat and come. You are the first trespasser to have had that honor"

Words to describe Thorec: Canny, cogent, attentive, steady, protective, possessive determined, smart.

Ria
Omega
Talent-crafter
black hair
brown eyes

"And I will not be held by an authority I don't recognize, So if you intend to hold me, I intend to escape."

Words to describe Ria: Stubborn, determined, strong-minded, adventurous, independent.

I loved both characters and their chemistry. This is so different from what I have read from Zoey Ellis and this being the first book I read of her and the series, it didn't make much sense at first but now that I'm more familiar with the world and other main factors. and I started to like this a lot more and it was a delightful read and also a swift one. I actually liked the anti-hero for once so I'm happy. He was so different from the other anti-heroes from this series I have read and I loved it. Ria was also really likable and I did not mind their kink. It felt new and exciting, I don't know why. I wish so badly their story was longer than it was.

A SOLID 4.5 STARS!

USUALLY I DON'T ENJOY NOVELLAS BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO RUSHED AND SHORT-LIVED THAT THE WORDS DON'T GIVE YOU ANY FORM OF FULFILLMENT. BUT HERE, I'M EITHER BIASED OR THE AUTHOR'S JUST THAT GOOD AND I SMILED AT THE END OF THE BOOK.

GENERAL THOREC is the kind of alpha that I love to crush on. Who doesn't like a stoic man in uniform who goes out of his mind for something as base as a female? Thorec is unfulfilled with his current life, feeling like a babysitter to a bunch of difficult mountain people who doesn't like the Lox people. Meanwhile, another problem arrives in the form of a sweet scenting intruder. To his surprise, she's the elusive Omega and one made just for him. Now, all he has to do is make her see it. I loved Thorec's character. He's not like Drocco or Mallaron...in fact, he's quite a gentleman and while he can be rough, he's passionate but caring about Ria. He doesn't traumatise or brutalize her, in fact he tries his best to help her see that she has a home here with him.

RIA is a rolling stone that gathers no moss. Ever since she's been plucked from her biological family to serve as a spy for the Omegas, she's left bereft, feeling the same non-fulfillment in her life. Everywhere she goes, there are couples who are soul bonded, people with families and relationships, while she's always traveling from one place to another. Ria wants to belong. When she goes back to Ariyon to find her brother, her plans got waylaid by a gruff General who makes her feminine parts tingle. Their passion leapt through the pages and I was enthralled by their chemistry of love-hate but oh so good!

OVERALL this was short but it didn't leave me feeling like I always do with novellas. It actually felt complete, and maybe that's because I have followed this series right from the start and the author got the details done right without rushing anything or leaving out the important parts that makes her Omegaverse stories so compelling. She definitely writes with heart, and I can't wait for MORE of her other Omegaverse stories.

Another sizzling passion driven tale from the wonderful world of Myth of Omega series. Zoey Ellis has hit the mark yet again with Thorec and Ria. In this story we see a reluctant Omega try to deny what is inevitable,  the colliding of true mates.  Ria fears the loss of her independence that will surely happen if she dares to give way to the onset of complex feelings Thorec, an Alpha, inspires in her. Thorec is not easily dissuaded no matter how stubborn and challenging Ria wants to be. He will stop at nothing to make her accept what is already undeniable- she will he his Omega, and she will beg him for it. I absolutely loved this bite into an already highly addicting world. Thousand thanks Zoey for giving us addicts one more hit!

I haven't loved her past few books but this was really good. I really felt the connection between the main characters. The hero was sweet and I didn't find myself cringing at things the hero said or did. The heroine was unique. For a shorter story, the plot was well thought out and had depth.

Nope, Nope and more Nope

Candescent was not a book for me and I am just saying it. This is the first book I have read by Zoey Ellis but I thought I was reading a different story based on the book description and what I was expecting. I knew there would be a bit of darkness to it, as it is warned about and just from the description. However, it was way past that and not in a good way in my books. Let's be serious here also and say that I read a lot of darker stuff but I draw the line on the supposed H raping the h. And not once for multiple times. From my POV when this plot devise is trotted out it is a weak story that the author is writing.
I am not sure if I will read another book by this author at this moment. As for me this is a total pass on this book.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

As the author states this is a bit of a dark story with quasi-sexual consent in some areas. If you are not comfortable with forcible sometimes-violent foreplay you may want to read another story.

Thorec or General Thorec as he likes to be called is no longer fighting wars but policing the natives in a land his people conquered. He is summoned to take care of a trespasser who may be a rare Omega. Her scent causes him to revert to the more animal side of his nature. Ria is fighting against what her body wants when she and the general have a run in.

Thorec pretty much takex Ria the first time he’s with her. She also during these encounters of which she does eventually enjoy fight him physically which seems to increase her arousal.

The story itself is a bit basic in its telling. There is not a lot of explanation in the story it mostly centers around the physicality of Ria and Thorec’s relationship. Some more explanation as to why the Omega needs to have a more assertive physical aspect of intercourse may for some people get them past the squeamish almost rapey feel to them coming together.

Tone down the caveman like bedroom scenes, ramp up the story so we get a better connection to the world, explain more about some of the characters and why does Ria have magic? Some of the characters we are introduced to flesh them out a little, heck flesh out Thorec a bit and the story would be pretty engaging.

Despite Thorec showing his Alpha side repeatedly he does do some sweet things for Ria which makes them actually being a couple seem plausible.

ONE DELIGHTFUL JOURNEY!!!
Spicy! Zoey blows through like a category 5 hurricane, ripping threats and tackling trouble, forging ahead, throwing this baby into a tailspin with an astonishing culmination. Racking up the drama, tossing the chaos and roping the shenanigans, while dodging danger as suspense soars, bringing intrigue and turmoil, wrapping it up and fusing this gem together seamlessly. Divvying out thrilling, well rounded scenario's that punch dead center, ramping up the zeal and unbridled gusto with such intensity and precision, blasting this bad boy to life spectacularly. Stumbling through the trials and tribulations, sharp twists, sleek turns and thin lines, testing our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. The attraction and chemistry escalates as each layer is peeled back exposing an undeniable bond and amplifying affections, launching this gem to staggering heights. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and qualities that blend into amazing personalities. The scenes and dynamics are written with such realism there's no problem interpreting each layout as they play off one another smoothly. Remarkable job Zoey, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.

This is a standalone in the Myth of Omega series. Even though it technically is a standalone, I would recommend reading the others first, or at least the first three stories in the series. The two main characters from that trilogy show up in this novella so it would help a reader to be familiar with who they are and their dynamic.

Candescent is a short story but does pack quite a punch. Ria and Thorec were passionately stubborn and extremely explosive together. Wow, talk about steamy! I knew going in this was a novella-length story so I knew it would be fast-paced with a quick developing relationship. However, after reading the others, I kinda missed the push-and-pull fighting and conflicting feelings the other relationships had as they developed.

If you read the full blurb, it tells you "this story includes romance of a dark nature" and it "delves into the depths of dark, consuming love". There are scenes with questionable consent. If this is not your cup of tea don't read it. If you enjoy the escape to dark romance, I would definitely recommend this one and the rest of the Myth of Omega series.

For his own by MeemsAngel

Now a book by Zoey is good enough for me. But one set in this world?! Yes!!! This had some great writing like I am used to and I love it! The world is a dark one with the light coming from the bonds Alphas share with their Omegas, their loves. This has triggers as usual and just be aware of this before reviewing any book. The plot is entertaining and these characters are interesting.

He wants, so he takes!

This man knows what he wants and after a time, she'll appreciate it! You have to be into the Alpha and Omega roles because obviously there is dominance within these pages but also possession and love. Not to mention devotion. I love fated mates and this was wonderful. Be aware as a reader of the roles of these type of books to better enjoy them and to properly review them. Then read and enjoy like I did! These two have stubborn written all over them and I was down for it all. The heat is there and I was loving these two! More to come!

Alpha General Thorec is completely taken by surprise by the young, feisty, omega female who is caught trespassing in his territory. Ria is looking for answers she won't be intimidated by the large, demanding, and overbearing, alpha who claims she is his mate, and takes her for himself. Ria is determined to escape, and continue her mission, but Thorec will hunt her down in an effort to prove to her that they have a special connection.

Sexy, and fascinating characters. Thorec didn't think he would ever find a mate, he is determined to keep her, and Ria doesn't want a mater, but they eventually find happiness. Sizzling hot, and exciting read which kept me guessing, with some interesting twists. Great book.

The general lifted her up into his arms. "I think you would be happier here than in my house."
"But I thought you didn't like the mountains?"
"Yes," the general admitted. "But I love you."

Holy alpha-moly!

I never though I could fall more in love with a series than what I already am, but I was wrong. It seems like every book that comes out in the MoO keep getting better and better. That takes skills people, skills.

Zoey brings a new couple, Thorec and Ria, along with some appearances from well known and loved past characters, and gives us a steaming, alpha-packed new book that does not disappoint.

This novella takes us back to Zoey’s Omegaverse with General Thorec and Ria. Thorec is a general for the Lox and protects the Ariyon mountains. Ria trespasses into Ariyon on a mission when she encounters Thorec. General Thorec immediately recognizes Ria as his natural mate, but Ria’s main concern is her mission and flees from Ariyon and Thorec. The Alpha in Thorec will not let Ria slip away so easily and gives chase to bring back his Omega. Candescent is one of Zoey’s shorter stories, at a little over 100 pages, but is packed with heat! I absolutely love Zoey Ellis’s Omegaverse and can not wait to see what’s next!

i'm so happy and excited that we get another book set in the MoO world! i have absolutely loved this whole series, and this addition did not disappoint me! even though i really enjoyed how the other books in this series were grouped in trilogies, there is something to be said about how satisfying it is to know you get that HEA at the end of a book (instead of waiting for it at the end of the 3rd book). even though Thorec and Ria's story was a standalone novella, it still brought the HEAT!! man!! does zoey ellis know how to make a reader sweat and swoon! i will always never hesitate on reading one of her books!
