Piper Sullivan lost her father to a degenerative disease and her sister to prison all in the past couple of months. The quiet librarian and bear shifter is also saddled with the ability to wield ancient shifter magic that she isn't yet able to control. The mysterious power scares and excites her at the same time. The one stable presence in her life is reindeer shifter Jasper MacKinnon. She feels safe with Jasper. More than that, she feels loved.
Having grown up in Grey Lake, former firefighter Jasper is now an agent with the Shifter Crime Bureau. He is working with the Grey Lake Police Department to protect the quaint village from Alden Williamson, an evil phoenix shifter, who is out to kill the Lakers and rebuild the town in his image. Jasper needs to safeguard those he cares about, most of all a certain intriguing librarian, from the supernatural dangers that surround them.
Will Piper learn to control her powers, so instead of a liability, they become a strength? Will she and Jasper be able to keep Grey Lake safe? You’ll find the answers in Bear’s Magic – Grey Lake Shifters Book 4.
I borrowed Bear's Magic ~ Grey Lake Shifters ~ Book 4 from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
Piper Sullivan, a bear shifter finds she has magic in herself when orange sparks appear on her hands and she can move things. Agent Jasper McKinnon, a reindeer shifter is always close when she is able to use her powers. They spend time together as he is close to protect her in Grey Lake from all the strange and dangerous happenings almost daily.
In Bear's Magic the guardians are revealed partly and start to learn to work together to protect the shifters and residents of Grey Lake with the help of their mates. I liked the different type of shifters mating, the prolonged threat to the town by the rogue phoenix shifter Alden Williamson. Working together they stopped and controlled his attacks this time. I just hop the K.L King writes another book in the series soon to see what happens next.
3 / 5 ⭐️ I really liked this book, I would’ve thought that Jasper and Piper weren’t that compatible but the way the author wrote it made it perfect. When I read a book about shifters I like to see more about their animal side, we didn’t get that much content about them and no interaction between their animals. Another thing is I think the series is going to slow, with every book that comes out we find ourselves with more questions and not enough answers from the books that came before. And I particularly don’t like when that happens, I like an equal amount of questions and answers. With that being said, I can’t wait for the next one to come out, I really hope the author can write quickly because I NEED ANSWERS.
Reindeer firefighter Jasper McKinnon self-assigns duty to watch over librarian Piper Sullivan as she deals with the loss of her family and tries to learn how to use her newly released powers. Jasper’s hope is Piper will finally notice him. The rest of the gang works to try to find out why and why now Grey Lake is so interesting to Iris’ dad.
I liked but didn’t love this series wrap, the pacing was too slow for my taste. Also, even under the hot spotlight as heroine for this outing, Piper was still a lukewarm character for me at most and I was quite disappointed in the hurried ending with the blink and you miss what happened with Tessa and Williamson. Rating: 3.25stars
This one was...fine. I enjoyed the first few, but I'm not sure I'm enjoying the story as much any more. I read the ebook and sometimes there would be a missing quotation mark. I was annoyed by the part where Piper and Jasper stop by Tessa’s place to talk to her but she was really tired and said she’d call them the next day. Then the book skips to 4 days later without even a recap of a conversation. Tessa went from heavily involved to out of commission and secretive. I get characters knowing the future is a double edged sword - you don't want to mess up the good and want to prevent the bad but don't want to prevent the bad by causing something worse - but she's as bad as Dumbledore with her secrets. The story/setting also occasionally feels confusing because the town is small enough to only have a police force of like four and we only interact with a couple characters but there’s a large hospital, bustling library, college, and multiple shifter populations.
Also, this series so far has taken place over a period of more than a year. They have known since the first book that a big battle was coming but NONE of them have been doing anything to prepare. Yes, they have normal lives/jobs outside of their shifter side, but they are never training or practicing any kind of skills. Now the girls are practicing their special skills and Iris is finally getting some hand to hand training but that's it.
This book was the first time I’ve really noticed a continuity issue. Jasper asked Piper to get dinner with him the next day (Saturday). She said yes, told him he could pick her up at 5:30 after her library shift, then says she is going to bed so he leaves. She then leaves the house instead of going to bed so he goes and gets her from the library to bring her back to her house and tells her she’s sleeping in. When she gets up, he asks her again to get dinner and says he’ll pick her up at 5 to which she agrees. As if you didn't just have this conversation.
Some of the conversations were a little awkward or repetitive. “You can’t shift until the baby comes, but we can still work with your magical strength in your human form. We’ll do it carefully, of course, because of the baby.” “Because Danforth was in the news about a year ago when a shipment of blood products went missing on its way to the Danforth Medical Center. All the red blood cells and plasma units inside the van went missing. The van was recovered three days later, but it was completely empty.” “He looked sheepish” then next page “Piper studied Jasper’s sheepish expression”
I’m not going to review the names of all the characters, since they should be familiar to the reader. More damage to the town of Grey Lake has happened, including some very frustrating things that they can’t explain. Piper is growing more powerful, with better control of her abilities, as is Mac. Jasper has a very close call, while they all wonder & worry about Tessa’s health.
Wow....just wow. Everything just hits one thing after another and you get so into the story you are surprised when it ends. Finding out that you are a Guardian and have such awesome powers is mind blowing. Finding your mate is so exciting. Life is so full and even though there are a lot of things going on, love conquers all. On to #5.
This book had a lot more intrigue and information than the previous 3 but just as good. The different characters blend in and the story gets better. The only thing I thought detracted was how long the book seemed. A lot of chapters. Very good book and worthwhile reading. I also love the humor
I have really liked this series so far! The way the mates find themselves and each other. Then, how they all are learning to work together. Also, the ongoing mystery is intriguing. However, I wish there was more details of the animal side of the shifters.
This series is just getting better and better. I really enjoy how this author can weave a story. She pulls you in from the get go and you just can’t read fast enough. I love where we are and I love the characters. Looking forward to the next book.
Well-paced romance. I liked that this book finally included an actual argument between the couple rather than only showing an idealized relationship. The writing still lacks editing and revising, but not to an amount that distracts from the plot.
Liabrian Piper and Jaspher reindeer shifter is mates. And she is the holder of shifter magic as the war takes off. And everyone comes together to protect the town.
This series is truly amazing. I love how there are many different kinds of shifters and each one has a story to tell. K. L. King does a excellent job at writing.
I think I like every new book in this series more than the previous! They're fun, intriguing and keep you sucked in not knowing what's going to happen next!
This is the first book I've read from this series and my gosh does this make me want to read the whole series!! Absolutely wonderful, the drama and the romance kept me on my toes!!
