The Perks of Being an Heiress #4

She is a wallflower with a pet squirrel. He is a scoundrel who stands accused of murdering his mistress. They’re not exactly a match made in High Society heaven. But sometimes when two souls are hurting, they turn in a most unexpected direction…

Sterling Nottingham, Duke of Hanover, didn’t plan on kissing Rosemary Stanhope. It was a complete accident, spurred on by too much gin and a temporary loss of sanity. Unfortunately, now that he knows what she tastes like, kissing her again–this time on purpose–is all he can think about.

Rosemary was as surprised as the Duke of Hanover when he kissed her. The sinfully handsome rakehell isn’t exactly known for paying much attention to wallflowers. Yet for some reason, their paths keep crossing…and before long she finds herself falling for the one man who loves her for who she is, squirrel and all.

But just when happily-ever-after is within their reach, an old foe returns…forcing Sterling to choose between the demons of his past or the wallflower that he can't live without.

I never thought I would love a historical romance this much!

It's the writing that kept me hooked since the very first page. And I was sobbing a few pages in because my heart was already breaking for a character. Yes, it is this good!

I find the characters vert engaging and lively throughout the book. The chemistry is amazing.

The story is really past paced for a romance fiction (I don't quite expect a romance read to be fast paced but I am glad this one was). I finished up reading the book in one sitting and I wanted more of it.

I feel for the main character as well as for Sterling (you will know who he is when you read the book). The character development of the main characters has been done exceptionally well.

There are so many parts in this book which will make you long as much as our main character is longing for her lover. It's desperate. It's torture. But most of all it's the pleasure of getting lost in the writing that would make you feel quite ecstatic while reading this book.

I find the plot rather well planned. The ending has a closure which I find quite satisfying.

If there's a next book coming, I am here for it!

A sad and dramatic prologue. Rosemary loves animals. She has a squirrel called Sir Reginald that she keeps in her pocket - she also has a ewe called Posy. Sterling, Duke of Hanover is the love interest in this story. Some nice characters and good storyline. I enjoyed reading this lovely story. 4☆

Although this novel opens on a damning note as far as the Duke of Hanover is concerned, it does get better as he finds himself being entertained by the unconventional Miss Rosemary Stanhope, whose best friend is a squirrel. Others may disparage Rosemary for her dowdy clothing and odd ways, but Sterling finds himself defending her, even as he teases her at every meeting. The background to the storyline is sad, but when Stirling is with Rosemary, he discovers that the pain of his past no longer has the power to engulf him as it once did. Dependent on her crotchety grandmother, Rosemary is much happier in the country than in the city, but when forced to attend society functions, she does her best to disappear in plain sight. It is through Sterling that she learns that all she has to do is be herself. Although this book is a standalone, it is part of a series and it was enjoyable reading about Rosemary's cousins and the progress made by them. Ultimately, the riddle that Thomas Kincaid has been grappling with is solved and bridges are mended, making this a most enjoyable romance. I received a copy of this novel as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

DNF at 3%.

Sadly, this author lost me so fast.

This is a romance. We all agree on that, right!? That means the main focus is on the main characters relationship to each other!

Why would you start the book AFTER their first kiss!? Makes no sense.

Especially since we read a whole detailed prologue with the death of the hero's brother. I didn't need that detail. Also, didn't need to have the description of him in bed with multiple women at once.

Lastly, the heroine was shaping up into being one of those "quirky" heroines. I like a wallflower reader who has a pet squirrel... but you gotta do it well. And this wasn't great.

There were so many things wrong with this one guys. To begin with, Rosemary and Sterling have already met, had several conversations, and kissed before chapter 1 even happens. I kept hoping for a flashback to fill me in on what I missed out on, but it never happened. Needless to say, when they realize they have strong feelings for each other shortly after, I'm VERY confused because they've had very little interaction to make that make any kind of sense. It was so strange. I won't include spoilers, but I will say the whole mystery/murder plot line was ridiculous. And a lot of pages were dedicated to other characters and the damn squirrel, which just had me skimming to get through it. It's disappointing because I actually liked Sterling and Rosemary together, I just wish the story was tighter. This felt like a novella length story padded with a bunch of secondary characters from previous books in the series to make it novel length.

This is the fourth book in the series & it could easily be read on its own even though this romance had been teased in earlier books. I really liked Sterling flaws & all, I loved how he saw the real Rosemary & most of all I loved how their relationship developed. Their banter was witty & the chemistry grew & grew. A fun, light hearted read which I enjoyed but felt it didn’t get to the nitty gritty of solving the murder

Will he let his past define his future …

Wow two released books in a week by the author, hazard of schedule but fun as both feature irreverent Dukes.
I remember in Evie and Brynne’s stories the few hints offered about Rosemary and Sterling’s upcoming romance.
Rosemary from the beginning has been presented as the reserved overlooked bookish odd wallflower. A miss who prefers animals’ company to humans as they tend to make her feel awkward for being different, compassionate and kind. Her being shunned for her demure persona could have changed her, but if having been raised by a less than demonstrative woman, did not froze her character instead it made more in tune with those in pain, hurting.
Sterling is a man of all the excesses, a man who reveals in every sins available to his ilk. And when he thought he has reached the bottom, his life has gone spiraling downward with now a suspicion of murder tarnishing his name. Why he is there, rusticating in the country, bored to tears, seducing every petticoat crossing his path. Thus how he finds himself kissing a little mouse of a wallflower. A woman who unexpectedly arouses his interest and slowly lodges herself into his mind.

They are fun together, as Sterling sees her, he notices the reserved woman, and acknowledges her for the intriguing and clever Miss she is. While Rosemary sees the scars he tries to hide, she does not absolve him of his mistakes but accepts him as he is, flaws and failing, funny edge and loving side.
With her pet squirrel, they make quite a team, the male members determined to protect Rosemary, as for all his faults, he can not stand to watch her being bullied or belittled. While she is his buoy in an ocean tempest, his beacon, she keeps him afloat when he was drowning, for her he will change the course of his life.

Rosemary Stanhope is a wallflower and a Squirrel Keeper Extraordinaire. Sterling Nottingham, Duke of Hanover, is a drunk, gambler and womanizer. He may even be a murderer. There are even questions about how he inherited the title. Rosemary intrigues him with a sweetness and ability to see the man beneath the facade. One kiss between them is not a mistake. She is his first glimpse of light in six years. Is it any wonder he wants to be a better man? Is it any wonder that he loves her? Sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, they both need each other. STEAM!!!

I actually really liked this one. She's a wildflower with a curious mind and social awkwardness and he's drowning in self imposed guilt over his brothers death.

She sees through him and offers a different perspective and he remains that he doesn't deserve her because of his past and his actions.

It was an incredibly sweet story, for sure.

Jillian Eaton has been spending the previous three books of this series teasing this romance, so you know that I was clicking Request as soon as I saw this pop up on NetGalley. After really loving the first two installments and being really disappointed in the third, I was curious to see where this would fall on the spectrum.

I really enjoyed the characterization of our main couple, Rosemary and Sterling. They had great banter, enough backstory to keep them from becoming caricatures, and I could really see how they fit together as a couple. As always, the side characters are absolutely delightful and really bring this world to life.

I do wish that we had gotten more relationship development at the top of this book as I felt it really took for granted the small moments that we have seen between these characters in previous books. I think it really would have strengthened the overall book. In addition, the subplot in which Sterling is trying to clear his name for a murder that he didn't commit is criminally underdeveloped. It could have been one of the most interesting parts of this book, but we barely get to see it.

It's definitely an improvement for me from the last installment, but Evie and Weston's book still holds supreme in my heart.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!

This is my 24th book by Jillian Eaton. I read 4 of her books in 2018 but didn't pick her up again until 2021. So I had this series on my TBR list awhile back but then it disappeared and wasn't available on Amazon anymore. I ran across it again while looking for new releases. YAY! It originally came out in 2021 but it looks like she did some edits and re-released them. Anyway, I'm glad since it was on my list to read anyway and I have loved all 3 so far.

I love how Sterling never called her by her name..always the wrong name. I also love how he described her. First taste of warm bread, first tug of a fish on his line, first sip of whiskey. Be still my heart. I love when a hard as nails, doesn’t give a shit about anyone, disillusioned, anti hero falls for the little wallflower nobody wants. Always leads to a great story. I loved Sterling and Rosemary. I loved how they teased each other. And for a wallflower, I loved that she was not intimated by him at all. So cute and overall a really good read. This whole series has been so good.

This is one of the most heartfelt books I have read in a long time. Guilt, regret, drives Sterling towards a pit of near nonredeemable dark lonely life. Then he meets Rosemary. And for once in a several years he felt calmer. The light of her soul shed some much-needed healing in his own. Sterling had a long way to go in beating his addiction to alcohol. But at least now instead of being drunk twenty-four hours a day seven days a week, he bit the bullet and dried himself out. He was now sober and it was because of Rosemary. Love like that is hard to find. He saw his life more clearly now and instead of drowning his guilt in alcohol he took responsibility of it and learned to face it, accept it and live with it. Admirable if you ask me.
In the meantime, he was being framed for murdering his mistress. But he had good friends to help him clear his name. Then on his wedding day to Rosemary the unthinkable happens and he almost slips back into his old thinking. But thanks to Rosemary's pet squirrel Sir Reginald, it saved the day. A wonderful heartwarming story of loss, guilt and forgiving one’s self.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the dour intimidating grandmother who raised Rosemary and made her wear the most hideous clothes. Turns out Sterling was not the only one hiding behind a mask to cover for the pain of guilt and remorse. In the end all were healing and happier for it.
A must read. I highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed.

I’d like to thank the publisher for sending me a copy of the book through NetGalley!

DISCLAIMER: I haven’t read the books before in this series.
Wooed by the wallflower is a cute and extremely charming historical romance that follows Rosemary and Sterling. (To be fair I’m not partial to either of the names)

Something refreshing about this novel was the unique plot at least when it came to the characters. Rosemary is shown as rather smart and self-sufficient and Sterling has good character development (I’ll get to that part later) the squirrel was a sweet addition to the book.

The best part was (this is totally a personal preference) it doesn’t end with pregnancy and we see them enjoying time together as a couple which is pretty rare in historic romance novels.

Right now to the parts of the book that I didn’t like.

The way grief and alcoholism are dealt with, After dealing with both for the better part of a decade Sterling seems to almost suddenly get over with apparently for the women he loves. While I get what the author was trying to do I don't think these much darker topics were dealt with the respect they deserve.

A lot of telling not showing, we are told time and time again that they loved each other but not why they love each other. The angst of realizing you’re in love wasn’t there and it just felt unrealistic?

Overall I enjoyed reading it and will probably check out more work by the author!

This is the historical romance for all the girls that are special, unique, and don't quite fit in.

I loved the characters in this book. Rosemary is smart, has a love for animals, and shines from the inside. Sterling definitely had a hard past and didn't deal with it well. I mean, how many books start out with a duel. The great part is how good the two of them are together since they really see eachother. My favorite character was Sir Reginald, Rosemary's pet squirrel. He seemed to either ruin a moment or save the day, but he was really an extension of Rosemary's unique personality.

The only character that I didn't like was Rosemary's grandmother. Some details were given to understand why she was so rigid, but she was almost a bit too much of a curmudgeon.

This is a book in a series, but would work well as a stand alone book as well. I was happy to see main characters that weren't your typical highly liked members of society. A view into the heart instead!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of this ARC for an honest review.

It's been awhile since I have rated a book a solid 5-rating. And I feel weird that after making my way through three books in this series, this 4th one somehow feels like the one Eaton meant to write all along.

The thing about this is Sterling & Rosemary have been with readers, in the periphery, but really took off in books 2 & 3. So, by the time we get immersed in their story...they have been in our hearts and minds all along. Sterling was my favorite part of Bk 1, and he made a super supportive, cool role in Bk 2, then by Bk 3, he was just...I wanted to jump into his book so bad.

I was a bit put off by Rosemary, because...

-1- She goes on and on about Sir Reginald, the red squirrel she has rescued and tamed. We had just gone through Evie's bout with a baby sheep?/lamb? she saved, and domesticated it. The idea of having this intrusion of another heroine embarking on being a weird pet owner felt redundant...a little too much Disney Princess.
-2- It felt so clear that Rosemary was more than intensely a wallflower. She was so unlike her outgoing American cousins, but at least she gave off moments of wishing to break free of the hold her grandmother had on her.

I feared for Rosemary on her end, because Sterling had been a lot to unpack. But, in true earnest, genuine Rom-Com fashion Easton delivers a superb installment that blows the other three out of the running.

I forgive her the last chapter twist, but the rest of the book hit all those lovely marks I wish for in these kind of books.

What I thank her most for, though, is allowing these two wonderful MCs, who should not be compatible to show us that sometimes the ones we love bring out the best in us. There was an unfathomable amount of emotions and feelings being dug up, but there was time and patience given in watching two people simply fall in love, gradually.

Sterling is an obvious Rake and a drunkard half the time, but from the second I met him in Bk 1, he had something permeating off him that endeared me to him. As he popped up in later books, to further his mysterious story ( Did he murder his mistress?!), he gave other characters some of the most interesting and best life advice.

Meeting Rosemary came in Bk 2, and she escapes the clutches of her guardian to break the rules and meet these brash, attractive cousins. It was clear she had been wanting sisters, or merely a sibling...and it broke my heart to watch her have to fight to be with family.

By the time we end Bk 3 and begin Bk 4, no time has passed...and, right away, we continue on with where Sterling & Rosemary left off. What follows is a memorable, engrossing love story of two people who should never have met, but manage to find inklings of worthiness and respect in one another. Even when coerced into proposing, the slow burn to matrimony never misses a step, with both MCs being honest and true, then not holding back once they epiphany their love felt and admit it to the other.

Sterling, the constant flirt, loves to irritate her by bad mouthing her "rat"...calling her EVERY "R"-name but her own, and ultimately learns to love Rosemary while understanding how to love himself.

This was such an awesome breath of fresh air...and not easily forgettable.

This series overall just wasn't her best work. This book I liked probably 2nd best, probably liking Book 2 the best, but they all had issues.

This one didn't have as much repetition or editing errors as the others but it was seriously missing some plot. Some reviewers felt they were dropped in the middle of a story and I can see that as some of the interactions they had occurred in Book 3. But the bigger issue was the fact that he's accused of murdering his mistress, which is mentioned in all 3 prior books and you expect a passing mention there, but it was pretty much the same in this book. He meets with Kincaid once to discuss the investigation which just implies he or someone close to him could be in danger. And then it's basically dropped until the LAST chapter. There are brief references to him being thought of as guilty and trying to repair his reputation (which makes no sense when you know certain things about the case that if know, would totally exonerate him). But the person behind the intrigue and their reasons was rushed and unsatisfying.

I did like the interactions between Sterling and Rosemary and their banter and for once I felt the love over the physical chemistry. Some of the physical scenes between them felt kind of the same as the prior books (a steamy kiss or two and then suddenly in the third encounter his pulling down the front of her dress and by 4th encounter he's giving her an orgasm).

Another unbelievable part is Sterling basically being an alcoholic but curing himself by going cold turkey for a week and then he's totally fine. I'm all for redemption and the hero working for that redemption but this just wasn't realistic.

If you've read the other 3 books then you'll want to read this one to complete the series but don't expect much from the murder subplot.

Wooed by the Wallflower by Jillian Eaton has a slightly different story than many romances. Rosemary Stanhope was a true eccentric, and hence, a wallflower. She was a bluestocking who had a squirrel as a pet. Truth be told, she like animals better than people. She was visiting Hawkridge Manor, the home of her cousin's betrothed, along with her grandmother, who was hoping to find her a husband. A husband Rosemary had no interest in obtaining. This is the third in the series and can be read as a stand-alone but there are a few pieces of background that Eaton retells to keep the reader current. Sterling, the Duke of Hanover, was a drunk. There is no other way to say it. But he was interesting. He still felt guilty in the death of his older brother, the real duke, six years earlier. He knew he had to heed his sister's pleading to return to London and repair his reputation, but he was not ready. He had enjoyed that one kiss with Rosemary however.

In London, just in case she's been compromised, he proposed to her and then announced it to a gossip, then disappeared for over a week. She finally got up the nerve to visit him at his home, looking to compromise herself further. What she discovered amazed her. Sterling had taken on a guilt that was not his. Then bad things happened. Killings, kidnappings, and now Rosemary was in danger. This had to stop. The mystery was a good one, the perpetrator one would never have expected. Rosemary was a good character, drawn beautifully buy Eaton. Sterling was eve better. She was eccentric. He was damaged, but strong enough to right the ship, once motivated. This is a lovely story. Eaton has outdone herself.

Note - I received this digital arc for free as a courtesy of Net Galley and Dragonblade Publishing in return for an honest feedback.

To start with, I would like to thank author Jillian Eaton, Net Galley and Dragonblade Publishing for this opportunity to review this title. Moving on to the review - this book is an absolute must read for all those who love historical romance , specially the ones set in the regency era. Infact it is a perfect read for all Bridgerton fans out there. Although this is the fourth tittle in the series - The Perks of Being an Heiress, the narrative has been composed such that it can be treated as a standalone read. Despite being a romance based story, there is sufficient character development, suspense and mystery infused which helped to remove any possible cringe feeling that could have come up. I absolutely enjoyed the conventional enemies to romance trope between our leads - the Duke of Hanover Sterling Nottingham and RoseMary Stanhope. While the former was a rake and alcoholic renowned for debauchery and so much more, the latter was a wallflower , content with her pet squirrel Sir Reginald. The build up of romance into a solid relationship along with a few suspense elements formed the overall plot of the story.

Although the reading experience was delightful, I would have loved the book a lot more had I not watched Bridgerton series for Sterling and RoseMary seemed to be a carbon copy of Duke Simon and Daphne Bridgerton. Infact the characterization and build up of their relationship felt starkly similar to how Simon and Daphne entered into a relation. The only difference between RoseMary and Daphne was the former's love for scientific knowledge and intensive reading, kind of similar to Eloise Bridgerton.

Further the mysteries introduced in the story were not resolved which I presume may be dealt with in the upcoming books. Otherwise this is a perfect must read.

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

This is the first book from the series that I read, but that didn't end up being a problem. There is enough from the previous novels to give you a basic understanding of who everyone is, but not so much that it would ruin the previous books if I wanted to go back and read them. I loved Rosemary as a character and her eccentricities were endearing rather than over-the-top. You could understand why someone like Sterling would be drawn to her. The opening chapter involving Sterling's brother definitely draws you in and gives you a good understanding of why Sterling is as closed off as he is. I'm not sure I totally buy that his brother would do what he did (it seems a bit over the top) but at least it's bad enough that it makes sense as to why Sterling would blame himself for it. Sterling and Rosemary's chemistry is really well written and it was so much fun to watch their relationship grow throughout the book. Their banter is so natural and I had to chuckle when he kept calling her by other 'R' names. The mystery surrounding his former mistress is a little underdeveloped, but adds just the right amount of drama to the story. The subplot of Rosemary's desire to be a part of a family and her grandmother's behavior towards her adds more to Rosemary's personality. I really liked the way the women from the previous novels support and reach out to Rosemary - it's always good to see women helping other women rather than putting them down (although there are characters that certainly do that to Rosemary).

The definition of the word debauchery with a good amount of self-guilt thrown in would precisely describe Sterling Nottingham, second son, now Duke of Hanover. He blames himself for his brother's, the rightful Duke of Hanover, death six years ago in a duel, he is also being investigated for the presumed murder & disappearance of his mistress. Now, in one of his gin induced sessions, he had kissed an innocent wallflower & the next thing he knew he had proposed after he had put her reputation on the line. She accepted to save her grandmother & friends any suffering from gossip. The worst was his two best friends, one married to & one betrothed to Rosemary's cousins, had come & threatened him to get his life in order - no drinking, no womanizing, no gambling, no partying.

Miss Rosemary Stanhope is a wallflower, which doesn't bother her, but she would rather be in the library reading facts about animals & how to care for them, than to be at balls, house parties etc. but grandmother is determined to find her a husband. Rosemary has rescued & cared for several animals but Sir Reginald, the squirrel she rescued when he was a baby is her constant companion. Now, the Duke of Hanover has kissed her & thrown feelings at her she didn't know existed, but dukes don't go around kissing wallflowers.

He can't forget her; he wants to be a better person & her light makes him better. He will prove himself to her & she has already begun her next rescue. This is a fun romance with bantering, humor (especially between Sir Reginald & the duke) & there is also tenderness, learning to forgive, believing in yourself, & solving a mystery of who killed Sterling's mistress.

What do you get when you put a wallflower, a duke and a pet squirrel together? One heck of a fun book! Wooed by the Wallflower is a delightfully funny, laugh-out-loud, charming piece to read. The playful banter and undeniable chemistry between our two main characters will have tears of laughter rolling from your eyes. https://www.goodreads.com/review/edit...#

Sterling Nottingham, Duke of Hanover is filled with self-loathing and finds himself accused of murdering his mistress. Trying to deal with his pain, he buries his feelings the best way he knows how…with gin…lots and lots of gin. But when he “accidentally” kisses an average-looking, squirrel toting wallflower by the name of Rosemary Stanhope while drunk at a house party, sparks fly. There’s something about Rosemary (and that kiss) that he simply can’t forget.

Rosemary is sweet, kind and just a tad bit peculiar. But after her first kiss with the Duke of Hanover, she can’t believe her luck…and her heart longs for something she never thought possible. Through a series of coincidental meetings, these two emotionally broken people find a friendship and a love that can’t be ignored!

Overall, this book was an enjoyable read. Enjoyed seeing characters from the three previous books and meeting new ones. Although fun in nature, I would have preferred a bit more passion…and definitely more “burn” between our two main characters!!!

Rosemary is very odd with an eccentric grandmother and a pet squirrel! One she carries on her shoulder and sewed an extra pocket to conceal him in! Sterling is a rake, dissolute drunk and some much worse! Sterling has had his share of gorgeous women but Rosemary innocence is light to his dark!
Sterling has guilt over his brothers death and the supposed murder of his mistress! His debauchery is such that he is sure to die young until he accidentally kisses Rosemary in the garden! He is not sure of why or who until she's as important as his next breathe! The squirrel and all! These two should not work ever! But they do Sterling finds his sobriety and his honor!
Rosemary finds herself thrust into the spotlight after a squirrel hers was lost in the tree and her own knight climbs the tree and rescues the squirrel, his honor and a wall flowers heart all in one evening!
But he has enemies who are now their enemies and one had so much crazed anger it is unbelievable! They may be falling in love but someone will stop at nothing to harm them both!
I love Rosemary fearless cousins are right alongside this adventure! Rosemary grandmother is not a dragon but just a woman who has survived years of wounds! Will you cheer! Cry! Laugh and not be able to put this one down!
I kid you not once I started this series I couldn't put it down! Not even during the start of Mardi Gra! Can't wait for the youngest American cousin Clare HEA!

This is the fourth installment of Ms. Eaton's The Perks of Being an Heiress series. I've always loved picking up one of Ms. Eaton's books as they are always such a delight to read. This one was no different. Sterling, The Duke of Hanover, is a drunk, gambler, and generally a rake. Rosemary is a unique, self-sufficient, and intelligent lady and a bit eccentric, as demonstrated by her having a pet squirrel. When an accidental kiss happens between the two, neither can stop thinking about it. Rosemary seems to intrigue him, and he sees her and admires her for who she really is, squirrel and all. Sterling has had a tough past and doesn't necessarily deal with it all very well. But when he and Rosemary grow closer, she sees the man beneath all the drunkeness and sullied reputation, and realizes he is a man filled with guilt and sadness and is just handling it all very poorly. These two were so beautiful together, to look past the appearances and understand who the heart of the person really is. Such a charming and romantic read! There is also a bit of mystery and danger that will definitely keep you turning the pages. I was hooked from the very start up until the very end. Well-developed and engaging characters, strong chemistry, and witty banter all make for a compelling storyline you will not be able to put down. Really enjoyed the story!

Surprised how much I laughed over the banter between the H/h over Mr. Reginald. Added to it how the H teases the h over and over with her wrong name. This story proves opposites certainly attract.

The h has lived with her grandmother since she was 3. Her grandmother is a tough cookie and is very stern. The h has known little love. She knows her grandmother loves her but hasn't hugged or told her. As the story progresses we realize why the grandmother is so cold.

The H is a rake of the first kind. He has lost his brother who was the Duke for something he blames himself for. So for the last 6 years he has not lived the life of a saint. He meets the h at a house party and she is so quirky he is intrigued. Slowly they realize they need each other and the romance begins.

The story has elements of sadness that will tug at your heart strings. Especially with the H's brother. But, it is also very humorous for me, especially the scene with Mr. Reginald and the tree. Even though book 4 of the series, it is a stand alone. The author does a great job in giving us back story.

Lovemaking outside of marriage - heat level 4 out of 5 and described a few times. I loved this couple so it was filled with love and passion.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance, a few misspelled words, a few crude words used, Lords name once, and some steam.

I can't improve on the blurb just giving you some tidbits to decide to purchase this story. (ljb)

The books in this series just keep getting better and better.
Sterling Nottingham, Duke of Hanover, is full of sadness and hate for himself. He has been accused of murdering his mistress so now he is rusticating in the country. But there he meets the sweet and ridiculous wallflower Rosemary Stanhope and kisses her, and now that he knows what she tastes like, kissing her again is all he can think about.
Rosemary was as surprised as the Duke of Hanover when he kissed her and for some reason, their paths keep crossing…and before long she finds herself falling for the one man who loves her for who she is, squirrel and all.
I loved the previous books in this series, but this is quite special. The writing is flawless, witty, smart and impossible to put aside. I loved both of the main characters. Sterling is so sexy and witty! The way he keeps changing her name is funny and romantic. And she is so special and honest. So good together!!!
The chemistry between them is of the chart. There are many hot moments and wonderful, wonderful kisses. Lots and LOTS of hot kisses SIGH.
My favorites will always be Evie and Weston from Entranced by the Earl, but this couple was just right there! This book is a must.

Sterling is a drunken degenerate. Alcohol, gambling, orgies, any type of debauchery. He enjoys being the second son with no expectations until he drunkenly goads his brother into participating in a duel. His brother is killed and to escape the crushing guilt, Sterling enters into a years-long phase of alcoholic fog to not feel anything. At his bleakest moment, having suicidal thoughts, he meets Rosemary. Sweet, good, kind, if something of an oddball to those in high society, Rosemary brings him out of the fog into the light. With her pet squirrel, Sir Reginald, you'll find Rosemary in the corner of the ballroom with a good book. When Sterling's friends (husbands to Rosemary's cousins) tells him gin or Rosemary he goes into a week of detox and with Rosemary's help realizes he has a lot to live for. Oh, but wait, the murder. Did I mention Sterling is being accused of murdering his mistress? Her room was found covered in blood but the body is missing. Doesn't he sound like a catch! But really he is sweet and funny while Rosemary isn't your usual debutante. Evie and Joanna from the previous books are here, and good news, their sister arrives from America in time for the wedding! Thanks to Netgalley, Dragonblade Publishing and the author for an ARC of this book. I have not been paid for this review and am leaving it voluntarily.

Oh I loves me a wallflower/reformed rake historical romance! The stranger the heroine the better. And Rosemary is pretty strange. She has a little pet squirrel that she talks to, isn't regarded as pretty and has a habit of getting into scrapes. Enter the rake, Sterling, who carries a burden of guilt over his brother's death and is supremely lonely but in denial about it. He is inexplicably drawn to the cooky Rosemary, who he can't seem to stop kissing.

Sterling's redemption is hard-won and lovely to see, and Rosemary doesn't so much as transform into a butterfly as become recognised for the wonderful human she is.

This has all my catnip - unconventionally attractive woman, man with demons to conquer and an overpowering attraction. The only criticism I would have is that there was a little bit of drama which felt tacked onto the end - I found it abrupt. But that may be because I haven't read the previous books. It's well-written and fun and I really enjoyed it.

Sterling Nottingham, Duke of Hanover, drinks too much, womanizes too much, gambles too much, and carries a tremendous amount of guilt. He blames himself for the duel that killed his brother, and he doesn’t know what happened to his mistress. Miss Rosemary Stanhope lost is an orphan raised by her grandmother, a strict and somewhat cold lady. Rosemary is sweet and is kind to people, and animals. She has a wonderful pet and companion in Sir Reginald, a squirrel she raised from a baby. At first glance, this is a couple that cannot possibly happen.

This a well-written touching and charming story. I love the silly interactions between Sterling and Rosemary, a rogue and a wallflower. Characters from the previous books are present to offer support for Rosemary and to keep Sterling straight. Surprise kisses, a rambunctious squirrel, and a kidnapping make this a story hard to put down. A good story, appealing characters, a wonderful HEA, and the solution to a mystery, it’s all here. I recommend the story and the series.

Fun and sweet, with a touch of heat

Book 4 in the series, this is actually the first book I’ve read by this author, and thought it worked well read as a standalone. As for history accuracy, other than having read a fair number of historical romances by this point, I’m far from any kind of expert, so my only comment on that score is that nothing jumped out at me as feeling anachronistic.

The story itself I found highly enjoyable, as it was the kind of mix of humor, romance, suspense, and character development that I like best. The one reason I didn’t give it a full five stars was that the mystery/suspense elements seemed a little underdeveloped, and seemed to wrap up too quickly. One other note on the rating is I tend to give books where I’ve read the entire series about an extra half a star because I enjoy the additional background on the characters. So what is currently a 4 to 4.5 star book, would be a 4.5 to 5 star book for me when read as part of the series

Minor caveats aside, I liked this enough that I’ll be going back to read those earlier books in the series, and I’ll be looking for more books from this author.
