This one is definitely for fans of danmei with a heavy focus on martial arts and the jianghu! Lots of descriptions on sword techniques, strengthening meridians, and loyalty (or disloyalty…) to one’s sect. I really enjoyed getting to follow not one, but two characters seemingly weak in their martial arts capacity prove to the world just how strong they could become. And since this also has a romance at its core, how strong the two could become supporting each other as they slowly learn how to love and trust.

Emphasis on the slowly bit though. This book took me a while to get through, as the main plot meanders from the scene quite often (the author even admits this in one of her after-chapter comments) and the romance sub-plot burns slower than an abandoned campfire in the back of the mountain where Wen Heng and Xue Xinglan first reunite. BUT there’s so much innocent sweetness and tenderness between them as they fight for answers behind the long-past murder of Wen Heng’s family that makes up for the slowest of burns.

Cang Wu Bin Bai does character backstories very well, and some of them even brought me to tears. Like, minor characters’ tragic backstories made me sadder than our main character’s family being murdered? She has a way of setting up melancholy atmospheres in her storytelling that really sticks the landing sometimes. In this book though, our villains (both main and villains who acted long ago in the past) got a lot of backstory but for some reason they felt less important, like I was getting a lengthy backstory on a character whom I couldn’t connect to the story fully or didn’t catch why their story mattered to the main plot. I think this might be due to the meandering plot issue overall—we spent a lot of time walking around hand-in-hand with Wen Heng and Xue Xinglan, but not enough time jumping roof to roof sword-in-hand with them as they dug around for answers to Wen Heng’s past and Xue Xinglan’s mysterious illness. Some things were just quickly wrapped up in the last ten percent of the book.

If you’re a fan of martial arts and wuxia, slow-burn romance and childhood friends to lovers, and character-focused storytelling, definitely give this one a go! CWBB’s writing is particularly beautiful at times, and although I felt the plot wasn’t the strongest in this one, I still love diving into the worlds she creates.

A sweet romance—so sweet it might give you a toothache. I absolutely loved the relationship between the couple in the first half of the book, where the emotions hit hard and really wrenched my heart. After that, it started feeling a bit repetitive, but still managed to stay endearing.

As for the wuxia elements… well. They’re not bad, but the plot relies a little too much on convenient solutions. The world-building is intricate yet shaky, with new characters suddenly popping up just in time to change the course of events. And when they do, we get pages of backstory about people we barely know. On the other hand, the characters close to our main couple hardly get any depth at all.

Overall, I’d recommend this to readers looking for a sweet romance story who don’t mind a bit shaky plot / world building.

DNF ch 65/ 110 + 1 extra

I'm finding this novel too slow and aren't interested with carrying on.

The plot is all over the place and I gave up trying to keep up with all the different sects comings and goings.

Wen Heng (MC) is really manipulative at first but after a while he grew on me. We don't even meet the love interest Xue Qinglan (ML) until the 30% mark. There's still no romance between the two at the 60% mark either. It's TOO much of a slow burn for me.

I agree with the other reviews that 'Golden Terrace' is a superior novel compared to this. You wouldn't even think they were written by the same author. I don't think you're missing out if you skip this one.

Took waaaayyyyy longer to finish this than it should’ve, which may have negatively impacted my views on it but hey… life happens.

I still think Golden Stage holds the winner in my heart for best book by this author, but I could tell they were trying to focus much more on the plot this time and I think they were pretty successful! However cwbb… have you considered that I just really like how you write relationships?😂 no matter, I still enjoyed!

I enjoyed《黃金台》Golden Stage a lot but this book is something else. My main problem with Golden Stage is that the two leads come to terms with their feelings for each other fairly early on, whereas I'm more into the pining and anticipation right before. And《春風度劍》Chun Feng Du Jian definitely delivers! The romance is well-developed: you can see why they would care for each other so deeply and the flirting scenes along the way are just delicious. As for the story, it has good pacing and definitely leans into many wuxia tropes, but not to the point where it feels cliché and boring. My one complaint is that the ending is rushed. There has been so much buildup that the way it wraps up feels a tad underwhelming. Desperately need this to become more popular so it'll get adapted into an audiodrama.

Jusmiyo marimar baket ang underrated po

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I can’t, I just really really like this book

Perfect blend between scheming, plotting, overall kicking ass energy, and romance

All I can say is that uh this book is like Word of Honor and Golden Stage smushed together and I am living for it

Aiyeeeeee like omg. Author, you’ve really grown in your writing! Like, I understand the plot more than I did with Golden Stage, plus this book is really well paced!

I really like how you portrayed their relationship. I would have thought that Xue Qinglan turning away from the “righteous path” would create a lot of drama between them and ultimately lead to slow burn painful sob-worthy angst-

But it didn’t. Rather, you portrayed Wen Heng as non-judgemental about Xue Qinglan’s choices and understood that he had his reasons that should be respected. I love how misunderstandings are cleared up before they can cause severe harm, and how they implicitly TRUST each other- MAN this gave me butterflies. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

In short when you’re as pissed at me at really toxic and annoying couples- READ THIS PLEASE. It’s a refresher. Not much angst relationship wise, all the angst is in the plot. It’s a comforting and compelling read!

The plot is good and well-paced, the character development is decent and the actions scenes are well-written. I also very much appreciated the use of time skips in this novel, because they were useful in moving the story along nicely. I liked Wen Heng (MC) and I think he's quite strong as a protagonist - he's intelligent and skilled in martial arts, and he also has a tragic backstory. Simply put, he's a character that is easy to like and root for.

I also liked his interactions with Xue Qinglan (ML) and the way their relationship changed and progressed as they grew up. The romance of course started late but I enjoyed their friendship and the way WH doted on and took care of XQL.The side characters didn't really get much chance to develop but they did appear enough that readers wouldn't forget about them.

Reading another novel from the same author as “Golden Stage” & “Fight the Landlord, Fall in Love”. This is truly a hidden gem. Seriously, CWBB is such a great writer. 👏🏻 Usually, in most novels, I had to reread a section several times or read the translator’s comments to fully grasp the plot in its entirety. So imagine my surprise to find a “storytelling” segment in the story explaining the plot in detail.

Everyone wake up, two new desperate yearners have entered the villa.

In my mind, I don’t associate this author with slow burn, but maybe I should now! This story was so sweet. And I appreciate that there is absolutely zero miscommunication between our main characters. The plot was kinda crazy - I always feel that way about stories set in the jianghu - but I followed easily enough and enjoyed it. Props to both CWBB and the fan translator!!

such a pretty book
The characters are well written and each person was developed and had a purpose. The plot is intricate and entertaining, the relationship is sweet, just a great book overall.
Of course there are some things I wish were more expanded on but at the same time I'm not too upset about it because it has left me thinking.

4.5. The redeeming part of this book is how the author masterfully paints a scene. Some important elements where not tied up properly in the end but still worth reading.

The romance, the plot, the characters, everything delivers. CWBB really never disappoints and the translation was also very nice to read, there was a logical and pleasing flow to the words. I know this novel is fairly recent but man is it so underrated

It's not my favourite novel by this author but honestly, Golden Stage is one of my favourite danmei novels of all time and Fight the Landlord is also incredible.

People say the author is not particularly good at politics but frankly speaking, I couldn't care less about these things. I only cared about the relationship between the two main characters and they did not disappoint me. Something about friends to lovers is just so wholesome.

There were times in which I felt like skipping cause I didn't care about certain characters so of course I didn't want to find out their backstory. I also wished our Wen Heng and Xue Qinglan got together faster but you know what? The slow burn worked for them, they were incredibly sweet since the beginning anyway, they just happened to make it official later.

All in all, that one star was taken because of some unnecessary details that bored me. However I do recommend reading it, it's really underrated.
