Rilettura.

We begin in medias res with Orphen living in a boarding house(?) above a bar or restaurant(?) and owing rent. There are other characters, known to one another. How, why? Unclear. They are all jerks and mostly treat each other unpleasantly. I never figured out why they were interacting at all.

There was some boring magic and dumb hijinks. Didn't care for the art, either.

Padahal biasanya aku suka kisah fantasi kayak gini~
Lalu ending-nya...

An amusing manga about a powerful but poor sorcerer who takes on various assignments. The main character is charismatic and the fun tag-a-longs he suffers with are good for a laugh. The story is so addicting that you don't want too put it down.

Idee: 4/5

Charaktere: 3/5

Logik: 2/5

Spannung: 1/5

Emotionen: 2/5

Gesamt: 2/5

If you're like me and you grew up with the 90s D&D-Style-High Fantasy Anime Triumverate, then the name Sorcerous Stabber Orphen is a familiar one to you. Likely, you watched the anime and possibly you've read this manga. Let me preface anything further by saying it's exciting to know that SSO is getting an animated reboot this year, and a manga reboot is already in production, with the first volume available already in English.

This is not that manga. What we have here is the original manga that accompanied the first anime, made in Japan in the late 90s and given an English translation in 2005 by the ADV Manga imprint here in the states. I actually got the urge to pick this back up off my shelves for an R&R before I got the happy news about the reboot, which made this read a tiny bit more tolerable.

Let me be frank about something: SSO was a flawed anime series, no matter how much I love it, and the manga is...not great. This first volume has a full 5 chapters [though they read more like just 3] and they leave a lot to be desired in the realm of storytelling. It gives the impression the producers expected the reader to already be familiar with the original anime, and as such, they slacked off on the manga. The first chapter has no real structure or consistency, and a lot of the five chapters is largely comedic and light-hearted to the point almost nothing can be taken seriously. Again, there are flaws and I suspect the assumption was that anyone who reads the manga should already be familiar with the anime.

Arguably, it would be better to just watch the anime and forego the manga, or forego both and focus on the reboot. Even if I enjoy this, I know it's flawed and I'll be the first to say it. The manga seems to want to focus on just the funny right now, and storytelling, character development and depth, and interpersonal relationships between the characters are nonexistent in this manga. If you're here for the humor, great, because this is amusing, especially if you can appreciate a lot of tropes being played with. If you want a more serious story with depth though, again, just watch the anime or focus on the reboot.

This is a good start to a manga series. It holds the right amount of seriousness & silly. It has enough to get into the story & its characters. It also opens up for a more broad story to tell too. Adding in scenes that you will find out more about as the story unfolds.

I read this as a kid. Only had the first volume. Although the first volume is a great start to a story I most likely won’t be continuing. I am sort of curious to find out more about Azalie & Orphen’s past.

This was a really fast read, but I didnt get into the Characters too much. They didnt connect at all and the chapters seemed really random and disconnected.

The story goes about a poor sorcerer who works for this person named Childman by doing fetch quests and bounty hunting. He's also a mentor to a rising sorcerer named Majic. But anyway the story starts off with Orphen (the poor sorcerer) sleeping in his bed when his idiot brother his banging on the door trying to wake him up.

After an angry focus blast of magic Orphen goes down stairs where his student Majic is trying to levitate a barrel of wine. While getting a scold from a chef to pay his tab, he bumps in to this girl named Cleao. She asked Majic who Orphen was and when she found out that he was a sorcerer she instantly asked him if he can teach her magic.

But he simply declined and now Cleao won't leave him alone. Later, he got a request from Childman to retrieve a ring from a mansion for some money. Then the story goes from there I don't want to spoil it too much.

It's in my opinion, a very great manga. It's serious and funny at the same time. The characters are fun and interesting. Also, the story is really interesting.

I'd recommend this book to people who like action and adventure. Also who's a fan of Japanese culture. It's also great to just sit down and read.

I found this in the floor board of my friend's car one day and read it on the way to the mall. Well I guess I understand why it was in the floor board. It really didn't do anything for me back then, I may pick it up again to see how it goes since it's been a while but I don't hold much hope.

well... it was so fast paced. I read it in,like, 1 hour. the main problem is that it was so fast paced. an enjoyable manga, though. recommend it if you like fantasy and magic, otherwise, if you don't like this genre, then I don't recommend it

The beginning of this book was boring, but it got much better. There were magic duels, but as far as concerning graphic novels I prefer romance. (not true to your regular and average novels)
