A first hand account of hiking the entire Appalachian Trail in 2009. Starting in Georgia and continuing on foot nearly 2,200 miles to Maine this is a collection of stories, adventures, and experiences from the Appalachian Trail. Anyone who has hiked, or wishes to hike the AT will benefit from this easy and enjoyable read.
First of all, full disclosure, the author is the son of some very dear friends, and we have known Stephen since his birth. That being said, I feel this book is a must read for anyone who has hiked the Appalachian Trail or anyone who plans to. The third category would be a reader who enjoys some honestly told good stories. By his own admission, Stephen is not a professional writer, but his ability to organize a story about his 158 days covering over 2000 miles of rugged terrain is refreshing and quite amusing. Enjoy.
This is well written in a way that makes you feel you are sitting around talking about the trip with the author.
The stories about the people he met showed what a cross section of people hike the Appalachian Trail. He describes life hiking for months in all kinds of weather and the beautiful sites and rough conditions.
This is a trip few people start and even fewer finish.
