Interesting sci-fi book about the possible end of the world. A solar flare takes down the earth’s power grid, as meteors shower down, across the earth, wreaking havoc. Is it a coincidence, or an alien attack? It becomes apparent that people are somehow being infected and turning into... something. Except for those in a small town in the US, named Renton. What is protecting them? Their water? Something in the abandoned mine that Clifford Dent is trying to buy? Dent is taking advantage of the chaos, making a power grab so that he can run the town. Is he just a bully, or does he know something? Will the townspeople band together, or will the town be torn apart? Note that there are 7 instances of mild swearing. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.
This was a different type of apocalypse with a flare, suspiciously followed by a meteor storm that has dire consequences beyond the physical damage of hitting the earth. I like the main characters so far, and the mystery about the town's water. The hesitant hitman is an interesting character, because he is a wild card. There were some editing issues with wrong/missing punctuation and sentence structure but nothing that a better proofreading would not catch. I look forward to the next one.
Refuge is a thrilling thriller, with section so much like horror, zombies with a difference and awesome characters. And secrets. It’s a brilliant story that demanded to be read in one sitting.
This is a great first book in a brilliant new post apocalyptic alien adventure! I did really enjoy this, something a little different a good mix of sci fi & fantasy, great character selection & story ideas made this a really satisfying read! I do recommend!
Here is a new approach to this genre! It leaves you wanting extra time to finish so you can begin the next in the series. One wants to predict what part the mine plays.
